Reliance cuts JioPhone price to ₹699 bundled with free data worth ₹700

It will be available by November 4, and across JioMart Digital retail locations. Jio is offering four EMI plans for customers who purchase the JioPhone Next smartphone. All four plans have a 24-month and 18-month payout system. The most affordable plan is the ‘Always-on plan’ for which you pay ₹300 per month for 24 months and ₹350 per month for 18 months. The affordable 4G smartphone runs Pragati OS which is an optimised Android version made for the JioPhone Next. JioPhone Next price revealed, will be available with EMI plans

<ul><li><keyword id="2003276" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jio" source="Orion">Jio</keyword> lost over 10 million subscribers in the September quarter – a first for the telco in the past 10 quarters.</li><li>This means that the rate of its active subscribers has increased, which means there are more subscribers than before who are actively paying money to Jio.</li><li><keyword id="11900973" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jiophone-next" source="Orion">JioPhone Next</keyword> is the next weapon in the company's arsenal as it looks to recoup the loss in its subscriber base.</li></ul>Reliance Jio had a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/telecom/news/reliance-confirms-jiophone-next-will-be-launched-in-time-for-diwali/articleshow/87211099.cms">subdued quarter this September</a> as it saw its subscriber base erode for the first time in 10 quarters, putting the brakes on the <keyword id="3820" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mukesh-ambani" source="Orion">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>-led telco’s juggernaut. But there could still be a silver lining for Mukesh Ambani’s company. “A combination of strong data consumption along with the deactivation of low-paying users contributed to Jio’s decent sequential ARPU growth,” Nitin Soni, Senior Director, Fitch Ratings told <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/telecom/telecom-news/subdued-q2-show-makes-tariff-hike-difficult-for-reliance-jio/articleshow/87246854.cms">The Economic Times</a>. Essentially, subscribers who use Jio as a second SIM either to retain their number or to continue receiving calls, have likely left the company. With these subscribers switching the boat, it leaves Jio with a higher number of subscribers who pay money to use the telco’s services, translating to better revenue collection. Reliance Jio has traditionally suffered a much inferior rate of active subscribers when compared to its rivals Airtel and Vodafone Idea. According to the latest data published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio’s active subscriber rate is a shade under 80%. In comparison, Airtel’s rate is nearly 98%, while Vodafone Idea is a little over 87%. Active subscribers are those which pay for an active plan to their telecom provider. One of the reasons behind this is that the company does not terminate or suspend services after the expiry of its users’ plans – Jio subscribers can continue to enjoy incoming services even after their plans expire. This is not the case with Airtel and Vodafone Idea, who only offer a seven-day grace period for their subscribers post expiry of their plans. This means their users will have to pay at least ₹79 per month, depending on their respective circles. Given that Jio has so far refrained from forcing its subscribers to have an active plan for basic services like incoming calls and messages, and that it has also avoided raising tariffs, the telco has only one option left – a higher active subscriber rate, resulting in improved realisations from its customer base. It is worth noting that Reliance Jio has a huge lead over Airtel when it comes to the number of total subscribers – 429.5 million versus Airtel’s 354 million. However, until June 2021, it was in a neck-to-neck fight with Airtel in terms of active subscribers. After delayed availability and stock issues, Xiaomi decides to discontinue Mi 11 Ultra in India

Conglomerate <keyword id="10926" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance" source="Orion">Reliance</keyword> Industries Ltd (RIL) on Friday reported a rise of 46 per cent growth in its year-on-year consolidated net profit for the quarter ended September 30, 2021. The net profit, on a YoY basis, rose to ₹15,479 crore. In a regulatory filing, the company reported that its consolidated gross revenue for the quarter rose to ₹191,532 crore, higher by 49.2 per cent. Besides, the consolidated EBITDA for the quarter rose by 30 per cent to ₹3 0,283 crore. On a standalone basis, net profit for the quarter was higher by 44.1 per cent year-on-year to ₹9,228 crore. Furthermore, the gross revenue on a standalone basis for the quarter rose by 68.8 per cent to ₹108,750 crore. "As the pandemic retreats, I am pleased that Reliance has posted a strong performance in 2Q FY22. This demonstrates the inherent strengths of our businesses and the robust recovery of the Indian and global economies," Reliance Industries Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh D. Ambani said. "All our businesses reflect growth over pre-Covid levels. Our operational and financial performance reflects sharp recovery in the retail segment and sustained growth in Oil-to-Chemicals (O2C) and Digital Services business." Ronnie Screwvala’s investment firm leads $10 million round in Lido Learning

The center will bring together experts from across the US to generate knowledge about earth's climate system and share this knowledge to advance efforts to address climate change and its impacts. "This is fundamental exploration science," said Ed Brook, a paleoclimatologist in OSU's College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences and the principal investigator for COLDEX. "What we're after is to see how the earth behaves when it is warmer than it has been in the last one million years. In order to do that, we have to find and collect ice cores that go back that far." The oldest continuous record of Antarctic ice, collected by drilling miles down from the continent's surface, currently goes back about 800,000 years. The researchers hope to find a continuous record that goes back 1.5 million years, Brook said. "The characteristics of the climate system were really different in the period between 800,000 years ago and 1.5 million years ago," he said. Brook and COLDEX collaborators also hope to locate much older ice, perhaps up to three million years old and even older. Ice that old is not likely to be found in a continuous record, but initial research shows that patches of older ice are trapped in the mountains around <keyword id="6354781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Antarctica" source="Orion">Antarctica</keyword>. "This ice and the ancient air trapped in it will offer an unprecedented record of how greenhouse gases and climate are linked in warmer climates and will help to advance our understanding of what controls the long-term rhythms of earth's climate system," Brook said. COLDEX is one of six new science and technology centers announced by the <keyword id="133800" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-science-foundation" source="Orion">National Science Foundation</keyword>, which currently supports 12 centers, with the last group funded in 2016. But the quest to find Antarctica's oldest ice is a collaborative affair. University partners on the project include Amherst College; Brown University; Dartmouth College; Princeton University; University of California, Berkeley; UC Irvine; UC San Diego; the University of Kansas; University of Maine; University of Minnesota, Duluth; University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; University of Texas; and the University of Washington. <ul><li>Uni claims to have issued 20,000 cards to date, with 1,000 new additions per day.</li><li>The company aims to issue one million <keyword id="6387037" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="credit-cards" source="Orion">credit cards</keyword> by the end of June 2022.</li><li>It raised $18.5 million from Lightspeed and Accel last year, nine months before officially launching its product.</li></ul><keyword id="12065183" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indias-credit-card" source="Orion">India’s credit card</keyword> system is a mess to say the least. You need a credit score to get a credit card, you need a credit card to get a credit score. The loop continues. Now PayU India’s former chief executive (CEO) and cofounder Nitin Gupta — who also led Ola Financial Services — has embarked on a journey to make this process simpler with his latest venture Uni. He is joined by Prateek Jindal, who previously built Ola Money, and Laxmikant Vyas, who has previously headed Bajaj Finance. Founded last year in October, Uni is a fintech startup that offers a special Visa 1/3 card, in partnership with RBL Bank and Mauritius-based SBM Bank, to its customers. This offering works pretty much like a credit card, but divides all of the customer's transactions into three installments that have to be repaid over a period of three months without any interest. The customers also have the option to extend the timeline of these installments by paying a small carry forward fee. This carry forward fee is one of the sources of income for Uni, along with the interest they are charged. Like a credit card, Uni too earns on each transaction carried out by these 1/3 cards. Uni — which launched its first product in June 2021 — claims to have issued 20,000 cards to date, with 1,000 new customers being added every day. The company is aiming for a 10-fold growth by June next year and issue a million such cards. The one-year-old startup seems well funded to do so. Even before Uni was officially unveiled in October last year, the company had raised $18.5 million in seed funding from Lightspeed India and Accel. The company is <a href="https://entrackr.com/2020/08/exclusive-nitin-guptas-new-fintech-startup-set-to-raise-20-mn-from-accel-and-lightspeed/">estimated</a> to be valued at $40-45 million. One of the major perks of having a credit card is the cashbacks and rewards one earns on each transaction. Uni definitely lacks that to a large extent. A customer gets 1% cashback as reward if they choose to repay their entire bill in lump sum, instead of opting for three installments. This is still a lot less compared to the points and cashback you get on each transaction carried out by a regular credit card. Ten reward points on every ₹100 spent on groceries, department stores, movie tickets and dining. </td></tr></tbody><tbody></tbody></table> Commenting on the same, Gupta told Business Insider that a credit card is for people that want rewards whereas the one-third card is for people who feel cash flow crunch in certain months of the year. “Most households face cash flow issues one or two months of the year. It’s a ₹30-50,000 gap. They don’t want to take a personal loan and deal with EMIs. What do they do? They tap into their fixed deposits or they borrow money from friends or family,” Gupta said, adding that one-third card allows them to avoid that all together with no interest or annual fees. Uni further added that their upcoming credit card range would also offer similar rewards. Uni is looking to launch its credit cards too — but many already exists Gupta agrees that there are several credit card companies in India and the customers have abundant options to opt for a credit card. But the reality is that only <a href="https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2020/11/03/2119495/0/en/Credit-Card-Users-in-India-2020-A-Comparison-of-Leading-Brands.html">three</a> in 100 Indians have a credit card. One of the major reasons behind this lag is the reliance on credit score. The <keyword id="12065180" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="former-payu" source="Orion">former PayU</keyword> India co-founder proposes to use newer methodologies and underwriting techniques to offer credit cards to Indian consumers. But having said all this, Uni may still face tough competition from dominant credit card issuers like State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and more.
