According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India report, Vodafone Idea lost 4 million users, and went from 387 million subscribers in May to 383.4 million in June. The telecom provider had lost 6 million consumers in June. Cumulatively, since January 2019, Vodafone Idea lost 31.75 million users while Jio gained 41.65 million subscribers. Jio had 331.2 million subscribers as of June 2019, adding 8.26 million users in a month. In April and May, Jio added the 8.1 million users.

Jio customers can now set standing instructions on the MyJio App using UPI <keyword id="2836894" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="autopay" source="Orion">Autopay</keyword> for their favourite tariff plans. "The combination of Jio's superior prepaid and postpaid plans and UPI Autopay will now be available to every Jio user," Kiran Thomas, Director, Jio, said in a statement. "Jio users will no longer need to remember their recharge renewal date or bill payment date and perform manual payments. This will enable an ALWAYS-ON service experience for every Jio prepaid user," Thomas added. Jio's integration with UPI Autopay has made it the first player in the telecom industry to go live with the unique e-mandate feature that was launched by NPCI. "We are glad to associate with Jio and witness UPI Autopay venturing into the ever-evolving telecom sector. We believe our collaboration will change the way Jio customers experience the renewal of their mobile tariff plans," said Kunal Kalawatia, Chief of Products, NPCI. New Delhi, The telecom industry lost around 56.11 lakh wireless subscribers in May amid the lockdown, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data reveals. The overall telecom subscriber base for wireless connections stood at over 114.39 crore in May, compared to 114.95 crore in April. Although there was an overall erosion of subscriber base, Reliance <keyword id="2003276" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio">Jio</keyword> continued to lead the subscription race and added over 36.57 <keyword id="9639568" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="lakh-subscribers">lakh subscribers</keyword> during the month under review taking its total tally to 39.27 crore users. Both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea continued to lose subscribers. Airtel lost over 47.42 lakh subscribers and Vodafone Idea lost 47.26 lakh users taking their respective subscriber base to 31.78 crore and over 30.99 crore, showed the TRAI data on Wednesday. "With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 488.23 million at the end of April 2020 to 491.21 million at the end of May 2020, since implementation of MNP," the TRAI statement said. Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, said that Prime Minister has given a clarion call for accelerated roll-out of 5G across India to realise the full potential of a Digital India. "In response, Jio has prepared an ambitious and the fastest ever 5G roll-out plan for a country of our size," said Ambani. New Delhi, Jul 16 () Google and Facebook taking minority stakes in Jio Platforms indicate that both have non-overlapping commercial arrangements with the company, are focused on non-competing partnerships and see value and opportunities to co-exist, according to a report. Google and Facebook are competitors in India with both controlling around 80 per cent of the digital ad market in the country, and the two also compete in other markets like cloud and payments, said BofA Securities. "Both taking minority interest in JPL (Jio Platforms) indicate both have non-overlapping commercial arrangements with Jio, both are focused on non-competing partnerships and both see value and opportunities to co-exist," it said in a report. It is now less likely for Google to buy a stake in a competitor, it said, while pointing to past reports which had suggested that the US tech giant could be eyeing a stake in another telecom operator. Google will invest Rs 33,737 crore to buy a 7.7 per cent stake in Reliance Industries' technology venture, Jio Platforms, adding to a series of investments from marquee investors since April. The investment by Google pegs Jio Platforms at an equity value of Rs 4.36 lakh crore. With this, the total investment from financial and strategic investors into Jio Platforms stands at Rs 1,52,056 crore. Alphabet Inc joined Facebook, which opened the investment cycle in Jio Platforms by picking up 9.99 per cent stake for Rs 43,573.62 crore, as well as chipmaker Intel Corp and Qualcomm Inc. Pointing to nuances of the partnerships -- Google's focus on phones and Facebook's on social media/commerce -- the BofA report of July 15 said "balancing the interests of both companies will likely have some complications for Jio, both want access to users in India for their services, with a friendly gatekeeper." In another report, Credit Suisse noted that Jio will introduce entry-level 4G smartphones to upgrade 2G customers and added that the Google partnership will be leveraged to design an operating system for these smartphones. "These new smartphones should help accelerate the conversion of these 2G users to Jio users. In our view, while these users have lower ARPU (Average Revenue Per User), the same users can be monetised through advertisements, etc. which increases overall profitability of these users," the Credit Suisse note said.
