Chatbots hallucinate and get confused, says Jio Haptik which is ‘training’ them

Jio Haptik and CASHe partner to deliver instant credit lines on Whatsapp

Financial markets will be keenly watching the committee's stance as consumer inflation is still above the 6 per cent target band. "The RBI will be presenting the monetary policy against the backdrop of GDP growth slowing down as well as inflation being high above 6 per cent. We do believe that the MPC will continue with rate hikes this time though the magnitude will be lower - probably 25-35 bps," said <keyword id="170005" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="madan-sabnavis" source="Orion">Madan Sabnavis</keyword>, Chief Economist at <keyword id="6358007" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bank-of-baroda" source="Orion">Bank of Baroda</keyword>. More specifically, Sabnavis said it believes that the terminal repo rate for the financial year is expected to be 6.5 per cent, which essentially means there will be one more rate hike in February meeting. "It is unlikely to change the stance and the withdrawal of liquidity will continue. While the RBI will take a hard look at both the GDP and inflation projections, there could be some downward revision for GDP growth. In short, there will not be any surprise for the market just as is the case for global markets too which are now expecting more moderate increases in interest rates by the <keyword id="45672" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="fed" source="Orion">Fed</keyword>," Sabnavis added. Under the flexible inflation targeting framework introduced in 2016, the RBI is deemed to have failed in managing price rises if the CPI-based inflation is outside the 2-6 per cent range for three quarters in a row. An out-of-turn meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India was held in early November to discuss and draft the report to be sent to the central government for having failed in maintaining the inflation mandate. The meeting was called under Section 45ZN of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Act 1934, which pertains to steps to be taken if the central bank fails to meet its inflation-targeting mandate. Bank of Baroda expects 25-35 basis points rate hike from Dec 5-7 RBI policy meet

This is expected to power <keyword id="6354504" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-jio">Reliance Jio</keyword>, the telecom venture owned by Asia’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, and, possibly, his upcoming e-commerce venture. Buzzo.ai works on similar lines of Alexa, where through an Artificial Intelligence assistant it can understand a customer's needs through conversation. It then comes up with the most relevant recommendations that match the specific inputs and explains why that may be the best choice. The acquisition of Buzzo.ai by Haptik is expected to complement Reliance Jio’s $100 million bet, for an 87% stake, on Haptik made in April this year. “Essentially as a company the way we are set up is that we have our business which involves delivering customer experience and AI solutions for all our clients. And Reliance Jio is the biggest client. That’s how buzzo will be extended, the solutions will be given to all our clients including Jio, through which we hope to generate a ton of business,” Aakrit Vaish, co-founder and CEO, Haptik told Business Insider. Vaish admits that Buzzo.ai’s functionality is like an Alexa. However, how it will be taken to market might be different, according to him. “It will be driven into the B2B market to our clients, who will further implement it for their customers,” he said. Haptik currently has over 50 clients across the US and India. Vaish hopes to double their business in the next year thanks to backing by Reliance and subsequent acquisitions.

Tencent is a big player in gaming but Jio is still planning to get started with Akash Ambani’s announcement of Jio Console in the 2019 AGM of the company. Refining and petrochemicals continues to contribute over 60% to the consolidated revenue of RIL⁠. Yet, Ambani has already disclosed his plan to spin out Jio and list it as a separate company. And when that happens, the sheer expanse of the company’s interest areas and their individual potential may be benchmarked to the value of similar businesses under the Alibaba and Tencent banners. India may be a smaller market compared to China, where Alibaba and Tencent are major players, but that also leaves a huge growth potential on the table for Jio. With 8,100+ Jio stores, the retail business is cleverly capitalising on Jio’s technology platform and moving between brick-and-mortar stores and the e-commerce business,” said a Bank of Baroda Capital Markets report. Essentially, Reliance Retail is not just selling technology, it is also using tech to boost its business Reliance is betting on e-commerce with its much talked about venture JioMart, which currently works on the offline-to-online model with kirana stores and is present across 200 cities. “The roadmap to this journey requires Reliance Retail to establish a complex yet robust physical and digital pan-India infrastructure and neatly weave this network to a smooth, sound and responsive operating system, which will enable Reliance Retail to serve consumers in partnership with traditional retailers,” Reliance’s annual report said. Facebook’s $5.7 billion investment in the company has meant that Reliance Retail and WhatsApp are now in a commercial partnership to accelerate JioMart’s growth. Reliance's various startup investments have been boosting its technological prowess like Haptik in the conversational AI (Artificial Intelligence) space, Fynd in the e-commerce sector, among various other bets in education, cloud, robotics, SaaS (Sofware as a service) and more. All this will take Reliance deep inside India’s heartland Reliance Retail already has extended beyond the big cities of India. “Under the Trends umbrella, retail operates Trends Small Town (a concept addressed to tier-3 and 4 towns). The concept has been well received by customers and has scaled up to 240 stores across 200+ towns in a short time,” said the report. And the tech investments may help it go far deeper and grow much larger. “We expect revenues to surge to ₹3.4 trillion by FY23 (33% of which will come from connectivity),” said the Bank of Baroda Capital Markets report from July. After selling India heavily to recover some of the losses made in China and Russia, foreign institutional investors are back as the new year is expected to see many developed economies slip into recession. Even though the Nifty at a multiple of 19.5x offers little upside, R Venkataraman, chairman of IIFL Securities, tells Malini Bhupta that India’s relatively superior investability will keep multiple premiums intact. The return seasonality trend of the last 20 years for the month of December based on empirical evidence shows that Nifty has an 80% probability of closing in the green. In this study, we also found that December has also given the highest average monthly gains of ~3.2%. Also, a series of reforms/cleanups and inherent growth momentum makes for a favourable Indian growth outlook. However, global growth risks are all too real, given monetary winter setting in, and geopolitics worsening (Ukraine, Taiwan, chip wars), and earnings will see cuts globally. Nifty at 19.5x apparently offers little upside, but India’s relatively superior investability will keep multiple premiums intact. Global factors such as green energy investing, de-globalisation, and supply chain redundancy requirements can keep commodities and capex strong in the medium term. If we cap the multiple near the +1SD of ~24x, we can expect Nifty to hit 20,000. However, an extraordinary upside is likely to be difficult as we have seen during the 2017 to 2020 phase that when the index approached the +1SD levels, the Nifty traded in a broad range with moderate returns. Developers have been able to largely pass on the input cost inflation; collections and OCF (operating cash flow) margins were healthy in 2Q. Net debt was flat QoQ, while borrowing costs went up marginally. Developers have, so far, not witnessed any meaningful impact on demand due to rising mortgage rates, though it remains the single most prominent concern among investors. During this period, corporate debt/GDP rose from 25% in FY05 to 41% in FY13 and stayed there for 3 yrs, before a deleveraging cycle in the last 5 years brought it back to ~32% (FY21). For the listed financials, provision and write-offs as % of PPOP (pre-provision operating profit) increased from 44% in FY15 to 102% in 2018-19. It has fallen back to ~47% in 2021-22 and accordingly, the PAT/GDP has risen again to 1.2% currently, from being negligible in 2017-18 and 2018-19. With most of the banking clean-up behind us, prospects of re-leveraging by non-finance companies coupled with rising rates should increase banking sector profitability going forward. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="What about slow deposit growth? Credit growth has been robust, growing at 18%, while deposit growth has been in single digits, amidst the tightening of liquidity. The primary reason for this is that the loans linked to repo rates have increased by 190 basis points on par with the current rate hike cycle, but the deposit rates haven’t gone up. Hence, although the deposit growth has improved Q-o-Q, on a Y-o-Y basis, (it) has remained moderate. We expect chase for deposits is likely to intensify in the coming quarters. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="What are the next triggers for the market?" comment="subhead" text="What are the next triggers for the market?">What are the next triggers for the market?</cmsannotation> We feel optimistic that in the coming years, the PAT/GDP ratio will comfortably breach its previous peak in FY08 of 7.2%, given that 1) we have yet to see any operating leverage begin to play out since GDP (in real terms) has just about reached FY20 levels 2) services sector has emerged stronger with one-off hits like telecom AGR (adjusted gross revenue) behind, and e-commerce having taken flight 3) banks and NBFCs have seen a substantial cleaning up of NPAs (non-performing assets), are governed by a much stronger regulatory framework, and are substantially better capitalised than 3 years ago 4) corporate debt/GDP has fallen from 41% to 32% in the last 9 years thanks to chronic underinvestment 5) policy environment is supportive with the government having cut corporate taxes, introduced PLI (production-linked incentive) schemes and driven up tax collections, etc. and 6) other domestic clean-up/speed bumps like GST/RERA, Covid are behind us. These factors can drive a strong domestic growth cycle. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Should RBI go slow on rate hikes now?" comment="subhead" text="Should RBI go slow on rate hikes now?">Should RBI go slow on rate hikes now?</cmsannotation> Yes. RBI is likely to opt for a 35bps hike in the December policy meeting, after three consecutive 50bps hikes. Post the 35bps hike, we expect the benchmark to be raised by 25bps in Feb, which is likely to mark the end of the current rate hike cycle. The RBI wants to restrict the inflation figure within its tolerance limit. We saw the inflation cooling down in October and the Manufacturing PMI hitting a 3-month high as a result of lower inflation. Hence, we expect the RBI not to overdo the rate hike and wait for the impact of the hikes to be seen for a few months, thus avoiding a slowdown of the economy. RIL has just acquired a controlling stake of 85% in the Hyderabad-based startup Nowfloats for ₹141.63 crores. Nowfloats offers SaaS based solutions to SMEs, enabling their digital presence. This comes in line with Reliance’s e-commerce venture, where it is reportedly working with kirana stores and small businesses in the country, to bring them online. “The aforesaid investment will further enable the group’s digital and new commerce initiatives,” said the official statement from Reliance. It has been clear for a few quarters now that the next leg of growth for Reliance will come from its consumer business and e-commerce will be an important pillar in that aside from the telecom venture Reliance Jio.“RIL is most attractively priced large cap growth stock in India. EBITDA from consumer biz will drive further re-rating” global broking firm CLSA said in its latest report.

 Reliance’s startup acquisitions are driving its e-commerce dream Reliance has also mentioned that it would invest another ₹75 crore in Nowfloats if they achieve their agreed milestones. However, Nowfloats isn’t the only big startup acquisition Reliance has made this year that brings it closer to its e-commerce vertical. Earlier in August 2019, Reliance acquired a majority stake in the Google-backed startup Fynd. Working in the online fashion e-commerce space, Fynd is the middleman for physical retail outlets and e-stores. Reliance pumped in ₹295.25 crore in the startup, during which Google exited Fynd. Back then too, Reliance had said that this investment would help its commerce initiative. Prior to that, Reliance acquired the Artificial Intelligence firm Haptik for a whopping ₹700 crore. Haptik is a conversational AI platform which enables customer engagement through support, concierge services, lead generation and more. Reliance Industries' latest acquisition takes Mukesh Ambani closer to e-commerce launch

New Delhi, Jul 13 () Reliance Industries, India's most valuable company, will hold its first online AGM on Wednesday and it promises to be a much bigger affair with a brand-new virtual platform that can log more than 1 lakh shareholders from 500 locations simultaneously. Reliance had so far held all in its annual general meeting (AGM) physically with shareholders outside Mumbai could never attend the annual event. They can now simply log into the event live, can listen to the plans and initiatives and comment and participate too, company sources said. For easy onboarding of its shareholders, RIL has launched an educative Chatbot via Whatsapp number +91-79771-11111 to nuance processing of logging in, asking questions and voting on the resolution. The Chatbot is equipped to answer queries and guide shareholders, prospective investors, media, and general public with accurate and immediate information on the AGM. A Chatbot works as 24x7 helpdesk, but this one can handle 50,000 querists simultaneously via conversational text and video, they said. The AGM on July 15 will showcase multiple first on a real-time basis - including a two-way live streaming and a brand-new virtual platform that enables more than 1 lakh shareholders from 500 locations, in India and overseas, to log in simultaneously, they added. The Chatbot, which debuted during Reliance's mega Rs 53,124 crore rights issue, is powered by Jio Haptik. So far, all the post-IPO AGMs of Reliance have been physical meetings that have often been equated with big fat Indian weddings. The company that is widely credited with having launched the equity culture in India, held AGMs in stadiums during times of its founder Dhirubhai Ambani. In 1985, 12,000 of them attended the Reliance AGM at the Cooperage Football Ground in Mumbai's Colaba. The next year, around 35,000 attended it at the city's Cross Maidan. Over the years, the AGMs got shifted to auditoriums even as its shareholder base swelled to over 26 lakh. And now the upcoming AGM will be virtual, where shareholders will be able to watch the AGM, ask questions to the chairman and vote - all aided by technology, in line with RIL's current focus, the sources said. By going online, RIL is bringing together its highly widespread shareholding of 26 lakh. In addition to shareholders in India, those in other countries like the US, UK, Canada UAE, Japan, HongKong, Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia will log in, they said. Platforms and capabilities to stitch the mega-AGM include video conferencing, the Jio Meet platform, Cisco Webex, and commercial webcast. All directors, key officials, and shareholder speakers will be visible and audible and thousands of shareholders will be able to post their questions and eVote on resolutions. At the last AGM on August 12, 2019, the firm's billionaire chairman Mukesh Ambani announced a roadmap for Reliance to become a net-debt free company before March 31, 2021. But the oil-to-telecom conglomerate achieved net-debt free status last month itself on the back of a record fundraising from stake sales and rights issue. Reliance secured over Rs 1.18 lakh crore from global tech investors, including Facebook, by selling 25.24 per cent of its digital business and raised Rs 53,124 crore by selling shares to existing investors. Taken together with last year's sale of 49 per cent stake in fuel retailing venture to BP Plc of UK for Rs 7,000 crore, the total fund raised is in excess of Rs 1.75 lakh crore, the company had said last month. Reliance had a net debt of Rs 1,61,035 crore as on March 31, 2020. "With these investments, RIL has become net-debt free," it had said.
