New Delhi, Jio on Monday launched internet-enabled Jio Bharat phones at Rs 999, packing-in cheaper monthly plan of Rs 123 for unlimited voice calls and 14 GB data. The new offering aims to accelerate the '2G Mukt Bharat' vision, as India still has 250 million mobile subscribers trapped in the 2G era with feature phones. While India is leading the 5G revolution on one side with the transformational Jio True 5G network, there is a section of society that is unable to reap the benefits of digital technology in entirety. "Jio Bharat is being launched with the objective of empowering every Indian with the power of digital services, especially those who cannot afford a smartphone. This will truly mark the beginning of digital freedom for the 250 million feature phone users in India and will bridge the digital divide," Jio said in a statement. Beta trial for first 1 million Jio Bharat phones starts from July 7, 2023. Besides Reliance Retail, other phone brands (starting with Karbonn) will adopt the 'Jio Bharat platform' to build 'Jio Bharat phones'. Jio Bharat is priced at Rs 999, "the lowest entry price for an internet-enabled phone", it said. It is offering 30 per cent cheaper monthly plan and 7 times more data compared to feature phone offerings of other operators. "Rs 123 per month for unlimited voice calls and 14 GB data, compared to other operators' Rs 179 plan for voice calls and 2GB data," the statement added. Lately, the digital disempowerment and disparity for feature phone users has become worse, with other telecom operators increasing the minimum price to stay connected, the statement said, adding even basic voice services for a 30-day period, which used to cost Rs 99 previously, now costs Rs 199. Akash Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Jio, said there are still 250 million mobile phone users in India who remain "trapped" in the 2G era, unable to tap into basic features of the internet at a time when the world stands at the cusp of a 5G revolution. "Six years ago, when Jio was launched, we made it clear that Jio will leave no stone unturned to democratise internet and pass the benefits of technology to every Indian," he said. Technology will no longer remain a privilege for a select few, he said, highlighting that the new Jio Bharat phone is another step to ensure every single person reaps the benefits of digital society. "It is at the centre of innovation, and it continues to demonstrate our focus on bringing disproportionate and true value for different segments of users with meaningful, real-life use cases," he said.

Jio AirFiber is a fixed wireless broadband offering that Ambani claimed can supercharge the number of customers that can be added into the network. “Home segment turbocharged by AirFibre and will target the untapped Indian home segment,” he added. This service using the 5G network and wireless technologies can bypass the need for last mile fibre, which continues to be a pain point for consumers. With <keyword id="3690255" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jiofiber" source="Orion">JioFiber</keyword> the company can add 15,000 connections per day, Jio AirFiber can grow over 10 times with AirFiber to add 150,000 connections per day. This can also expand its addressable market over the next three years to over 200 million high-paying homes and premises. Its JioFiber which was launched in 2019 has 10 million subscribers. On an average, they consume 280 GB per month which is 10 times more than per capita mobile consumption. Its fiber is spread across 1.5 million kilometers across the country. “We are in a league of our own and far ahead of competitors,” said Ambani. Jio Platforms have around 450 million mobile subscribers. Each of these subscribers, on an average, consume around 28 GB per day. The company has also rolled out 5G services across 96% of census towns and will finish rolling out the service across the entire country by December. Five dimensions of growth Ambani identified five segments ahead for Jio. The consumer segment will be powered by Jio 5G and Jio Bharat, an affordable 4G phone. Apart from the home segment that will be turbocharged by Jio AirFiber. It also identified the business segment, wherein it will offer enterprise services that will go beyond connectivity to offer a full spectrum of digital services to businesses with managed services and more. Jio Platforms’ opportunity for global expansion with its Made in India tech stack which give wings to more innovation. “Collectively, these frontiers provide Jio an opportunity for multi-fold revenue and EBITDA growth in the coming years,” said Ambani. The fifth and most exciting ‘frontier of growth for Jio’ is the global AI revolution. “It’s reshaping the world around us, and sooner than we think, intelligent applications will redefine and revolutionise industries, economies, and even our daily life,” he said. The RIL group is rapidly augmenting its talent pool and capabilities to assimilate the latest innovations in AI, especially Generative AI. Reliance Jio gets ₹1894.5 crore from Intel Capital – the 12th investment in 11 weeks

Mumbai, Jan 15 () Actor Randeep Hooda has started shooting for his debut web-series "Inspector Avinash", Jio Studios announced on Friday. The crime-thriller series hails from filmmaker Neerraj Pathak of Sunny Deol-starrer "Bhaiaji Superhit" fame. The show will also feature Mahesh Manjrekar, Urvashi Rautela, Rajneesh Duggal, Freddy Daruwala, Govind Namdev, Adhyayan Suman, Amit Sial, Priyanka Bose and Abhimanyu Singh. Microsoft also unveiled Surface Laptop 5 with its signature 3:2 PixelSense display that comes in 13.5-inch or 15-inch options, each with Dolby Vision IQ. The Tata name is worth $19.5 billion — more than the brand value of LIC and Infosys put together

New Delhi, May 18 () Recent investments by Facebook, General Atlantic, Vista and Silver Lake will re-position Jio as a major tech player rather than just a telecom service provider, analysts said on Monday. Reliance Industries has announced the sale of 1.34 per cent stake in its digital unit to global equity firm General Atlantic for Rs 6,598.38 crore. The latest deal follows on the footsteps of other marquee investors: Facebook on April 22 announced it is picking up 9.99 per cent stake in Jio Platforms, the firm that houses Reliance Jio, for Rs 43,574 crore. Within days of that deal, Silver Lake, the world's largest tech investor, bought a 1.15 per cent stake in Jio Platforms for Rs 5,665.75 crore, and on May 8, the US-based Vista Equity Partners bought 2.32 per cent stake in Jio Platforms for Rs 11,367 crore. In a note on Monday, CLSA said the "investments position Jio as a growing technology player". "These investments by General Atlantic, Vista, Silver Lake and Facebook should reposition Jio as a major tech player rather than just a telecom service provider. Jio Platforms houses RIL's digital business (telecom, Jio's apps, digital investments and tech capabilities)," it said. In a separate note, Centrum said that the "investments are racking up" and that investors bring diverse but complementary skill sets to Jio. "With Facebook's core competence of mapping a very large user base's behaviour down to the last life decision they took and leveraging that to create a more targeted product/app offering, the experience of Vista in developing and helping grow start-ups who have specialised enterprise offerings in diverse business segments and of course the more traditional growth equity players Silver Lake and General Atlantic (investors in Twitter, Alibaba, Uber, Airbnb among others)," it observed. In the last 6-12 months, Reliance Industries has repeatedly laid out its gameplan for Jio, that is creating an all-encompassing digital platform to rival the best in the business, spanning mobility, enterprise, content and B2B (business to business) and B2C (business to consumer) e-commerce solutions, it said. "The natural objective of creating this is also to aspire to the lofty valuations of the peer set Jio wants to be compared with -- the likes of Alphabet...Tencent...and partner/investor Facebook... We believe the partnerships/investments bring a series of highly credible and extremely useful partnerships to the fore and will help achieve this objective for Jio," Centrum added in its latest note. New Delhi, Jul 3 () Electronic chip maker Intel's investment arm, Intel Capital, will buy 0.39 per cent stake in billionaire Mukesh Ambani's digital unit, Jio Platforms, for Rs 1,894.50 crore, the company said on Friday. Intel Capital is 12th company to join the list of marquee firms who have recently invested in Jio Platforms, taking the total investment amount to Rs 1,17,588.45 crore. "Intel Capital will invest Rs 1,894.50 crore in Jio Platforms at an equity value of Rs 4.91 lakh crore and an enterprise value of Rs 5.16 lakh crore. Intel Capital's investment will translate into a 0.39 per cent equity stake in Jio Platforms on a fully diluted basis," Reliance Industries and Jio Platforms said in a joint statement. Jio Platforms, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries, also runs Reliance Jio telecom business. Jio leads the India market with over 38.8 crore subscribers.
