Jio-bp, the fuel retailing joint venture of Reliance Industries Ltd and UK's bp Plc, on Tuesday launched an additive-laced premium <keyword id="6356109" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="diesel" source="Orion">diesel</keyword> that the company said gives improved mileage and gives a saving of up to Rs 1.1 lakh per truck. The premium diesel is priced at rates lower than normal or additive-free diesel sold by public sector (PSU) competition. "Jio-bp today announced the launch of its diesel with ACTIVE technology, set to elevate diesel standards for Indian consumers. "The newly launched additivised diesel, available across the company's network will yield annual savings of up to Rs 1.1 lakh per vehicle to truckers owing to (up to) 4.3 per cent improved fuel economy," it said in a statement. The new diesel is being sold at the Jio-bp outlet in Navi Mumbai for Rs 91.30 per litre, while the normal diesel at PSU petrol pumps in the area cost Rs 92.28 a litre. This new high performance diesel offering will be available at all Jio-bp outlets and "will be offered at regular prices with no additional cost for the first time ever in the Indian market," it said. Diesel with ACTIVE technology helps reduce the risk of unscheduled maintenance caused by dirt build up and removes existing dirt from critical engine parts and protects against its build up with ongoing use. It is designed to work across a range of commercial vehicles, and with ongoing use it offers a variety of benefits to drivers and fleet owners. It helps restore and maintain the power of the engine with ongoing use while also reducing the risk of unscheduled vehicle maintenance, it added. Jio-bp joint venture launches additive-laced premium diesel

Aviation fuel supplier <keyword id="9546503" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jio-bp" source="Orion">Jio-bp</keyword> and two-and-three wheeler manufacturer <keyword id="108831" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tvs-motor-company" source="Orion">TVS Motor Company</keyword> on Tuesday announced that the two entities have agreed to explore the creation of a robust electric vehicles charging infrastructure for both electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers in the country. Under this proposed partnership, the customers of <keyword id="62356" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="tvs" source="Orion">TVS</keyword> electric vehicles are expected to get access to the widespread charging network of Jio-bp, which is also open to other vehicles. Leveraging the strength of both companies, the said partnership aims at creating a regular AC charging network and a DC fast-charging network. Jio-bp is operating its EV charging and swapping stations under the brand Jio-bp pulse. "With the Jio-bp pulse app, customers can easily find stations nearby and charge their electric vehicles," a joint statement said. Jio-bp and TVS Motor Company to collaborate on EV charging solutions

Piramal Realty inks deal with Jio-bp to install EV charging stations at its properties

New Delhi, Jul 9 () Global energy supermajor BP plc and Reliance Industries Ltd on Thursday announced the start of their fuel retailing joint venture under the brand 'Jio-bp'. BP had last year bought 49 per cent stake in the 1,400-odd petrol pumps and 31 aviation turbine fuel (ATF) stations owned by Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) for USD 1 billion. The joint venture, where RIL holds the remaining 51 per cent, has now commenced operations. "Following initial agreements in 2019, bp and RIL teams have worked closely over the past few months in a challenging environment to complete the transaction as planned," the companies said in a joint statement, adding the new fuels and mobility joint venture, Reliance BP Mobility Ltd (RBML), has started operations. Operating under the 'Jio-bp' brand, the joint venture aims to become a leading player in India's fuels and mobility markets. RBML has received the marketing authorisation for transportation fuels, amongst other necessary regulatory and statutory approvals. The joint venture will begin selling fuels and Castrol lubricants with immediate effect from its existing retail outlets, which will be rebranded to 'Jio-bp' in due course. "It will leverage Reliance's presence across 21 states and its millions of consumers through the Jio digital platform. bp will bring its extensive global experience in high-quality differentiated fuels, lubricants, retail, and advanced low carbon mobility solutions," the statement said. India's auto fuel retailing is dominated by public sector oil companies that own the majority of 69,392 petrol pumps in the country. State-owned IOC, BPCL and HPCL own 62,072 petrol pumps and 224 out of the 256 aviation fuel stations in the country. BP and RIL said they expect the venture to grow rapidly to help meet India's fast-growing demands for energy and mobility. "India is expected to be the fastest-growing fuel market in the world over the next 20 years, with the number of passenger cars in the country estimated to grow almost six-fold over the period. RBML aims to expand from its current fuel retailing network of over 1,400 retail sites to up to 5,500 over the next five years," the statement said. This rapid growth will require a four-fold increase in staff employed in service stations -- growing from 20,000 to 80,000 in this period. The joint venture also aims to increase its presence from 30 to 45 airports in the coming years. RIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani said: "Reliance is expanding on its strong and valued partnership with bp, to establish a pan-Indian presence in retail and aviation fuels. RBML will aim to be a leader in mobility and low carbon solutions, bringing cleaner and affordable options for Indian consumers with digital and technology being our key enablers." Mumbai, Jul 15 () Google will pick up 7.7 per cent stake in Reliance Industries' technology venture for Rs 33,737 crore, richest Indian Mukesh Ambani said on Wednesday. "We are delighted to welcome Google as a strategic investor in Jio Platforms. We have signed a binding partnership and an investment agreement under which Google will invest Rs 33,737 crores for a 7.7 per cent stake in Jio Platforms," Ambani said at the company's annual general meeting. This takes the cumulative fund raising by Reliance in less than three months to Rs 2,12,809 crore, he said. This includes investments by Facebook and other investors in Jio Platforms and Rs 53,124 crore Rights Issue, and investment by BP in fuel retailing venture. "It is in excess of our net debt of Rs 1,61,035 crore at the end of FY19-20," he said. "Reliance is now truly a zero net debt company, well ahead of my goal of March 2021. It has an extremely strong Balance Sheet that will support growth plans for its three Hyper-Growth Engines - Jio, Retail and O2C." Google to pick 7.7 pc stake in Jio for Rs 33,737 crore

TRAI data for November shows a slight improvement in industry numbers, with Jio gaining market share at the expense of VIL, UBS said in a report. After a large decline in September (driven by the 19mn subscriber loss reported by Jio) and flattish numbers in October, the industry witnessed a slight improvement in November, with overall subscriber base expanding by 1.2mn. Bharti gained 1.3mn subs (-0.5mn in Oct), Jio added 2mn subs (+1.8mn in Oct), while VIL continued to lose market share: it lost 1.9mn subs (versus loss of 1mn and 1.1mn in Oct and Sept respectively). Jio remains the market leader, with a subscriber market share (SMS) of 36.7 per cent (+10bps). Bharti and VIL ended Nov with SMS of 30.4 per cent (flat MoM) and 22.9 per cent (down 20bps) respectively. It is important to note that the tariff hikes were largely applicable from end-November / December, and therefore, December is likely to see some churn, UBS said. In fixed broadband, Jio surpassed BSNL to become the country's largest FBB provider. Jio now has 4.3mn FBB subs (+0.2mn in Nov), followed by BSNL with 4.2mn subs (-0.5mn in Nov) and Airtel with 4.1mn subs (+0.1mn in Nov). JioFiber adds 0.19 million subscribers, overtakes BSNL to become largest fixed broadband provider

New Delhi, Dec 22 () India's biggest company Reliance Industries Ltd and UK's BP plc formalising plans to set up up petrol pumps under Jio-BP brand will impact market share of state-owned fuel retailers, Morgan Stanley said in a research report. 
 Reliance and BP last week announced further details of their retail fuel partnership, in which the British firm has taken 49 per cent stake for USD 1 billion. 
 The tie-up will see RIL's 1,400 existing pump stations being ramped up to 5,500 over five years. It also will increase the lucrative aviation fuel stations from 30 to 45. 
 "Targeted fuel station additions would be nearly equivalent to two-thirds of annual station additions by (state-owned) oil marketing companies (OMCs)," it said. "This should also help RIL sell more refined products domestically as refinery export restrictions ease." 
 Retail network will be under the Jio-BP brand and will cater to mobility solutions that may leverage BP's electric charging technologies and RIL's digital ecosystem. 
 "We have currently seen limited plans by OMCs on this front, however current regulations on the setup of electric charging infrastructure favour OMCs considering their reach." 
 RIL and BP expect to form their partnership by first half of 2020 and it will include convenience stores and Castrol lubricants. 
 Morgan Stanley said the overall increased competition in domestic fuel markets would re-rate multiples as fuel pricing gets delinked from government intervention. 
 "Also, contrary to the market's belief that retail fuel margins will weaken due to competition, we believe they can expand over the medium term towards regional averages, which are 1.5-2x higher than in India," it said. "If the RIL-BP venture hits its target for fuel stations, it would account for nearly 8 per cent of pump stations by 2025. We see an impact on OMCs' market share both in aviation and auto fuels." 
 It believed that market leader Indian Oil Corp (IOC) could be impacted the most, as seen over the past decade when its retail fuel market share declined by 10 percentage points (to below 40 per cent) in favour of private players. 
 "Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL), which has the highest exposure to highways, could see more aggressive pricing as RIL-BP would target these areas where throughput per outlet is higher," it said. "We see limited impact to HPCL considering its higher exposure to cities, which are normally tougher for new players to enter considering long-term leases even for dealer-operated stations." 
 However, both BPCL and HPCL have tried to protect market share in the past and they are seen keeping that stable going ahead. 
 In August, RIL had said BP will pay about Rs 7,000 crore for acquiring 49 per cent stake in its existing petrol pumps and aviation turbine fuel network. RIL will hold the remaining 51 per cent interest. 
 This is the third joint venture between Reliance and BP since 2011. 
 BP had in 2011 bought 30 per cent stake in 21 oil and gas exploration and production blocks of Reliance for USD 7.2 billion. At that time, another 50:50 joint venture, India Gas Solutions, was set up for sourcing and marketing gas in India. 
 The country currently has 66,408 petrol pumps, with public sector retailers owning 59,831. PSU retailers have plans to double this network and have already starting appointing dealers. 
 Russia's Rosneft-backed Nayara Energy, formerly Essar Oil, has 5,453 petrol pumps and has plans to scale them up to more than 7,000 in two-three years. 
 Royal Dutch Shell has 167 outlets and is slated to add 150-200 more petrol pumps. 
 BP had in 2016 received a licence from the government to set up 3,500 petrol pumps in India but it did not move on that authorisation.

We have signed a binding partnership and an investment agreement under which Google will invest Rs 33,737 crores for a 7.7 per cent stake in Jio Platforms," RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani said at the company's annual general meeting. With Google coming on board, Reliance has completed its target of capital raising for Jio Platforms, he said. With this deal, Reliance has sold 32.84 per cent stake in Jio Platforms Ltd - the unit that houses India's youngest but largest telecom firm Jio Infocomm and apps. Proceeds from the stake sales in Jio Platforms, along with the Rs 53,124 crore raised in a rights issue in June and sale of a 49 per cent stake in its fuel retail network to BP last summer for Rs 7,629 crore will help the company become net debt-free, Ambani said. This debt-free status will be in place after the promised funds come in (75 per cent of the funds from the rights issue will come in next year). Reliance had a net debt of Rs 1,61,035 crore as on March 31, 2020. Since then, six US private equity firms invested in Jio: Silver Lake Partners bought 2.08 per cent for Rs 10,202.55 crore, Vista Equity Partners paid Rs 11,367 crore for a 2.32 per cent stake, General Atlantic acquired a 1.34 per cent stake for Rs 6,598.38 crore, KKR paid Rs 11,367 crore for a 2.32 per cent stake, TPG bought a 0.93 per cent stake for Rs 4,546.80 crore and L Catterton picked up 0.39 per cent for Rs 1,894.50 crore. Earlier this month, the investment arm of computer chip giant Intel Corp picked up 0.39 per cent stake for Rs 1,894.50 crore. Jio Platforms has also received a funds from the Middle East which started with Mubadala Investment Co which picked up a 1.85 per cent stake for Rs 9,093.60 crore and was followed by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund, as well as the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority buying 2.32 per cent and 1.16 per cent stake for Rs 11,367 crore and Rs 5,683.50 crore, respectively. Qualcomm invested Rs 730 crore for a 0.15 per cent stake. Jio Platforms - which is also amassing a wide range of services from music streaming to online retail and payments - is expected to use its 388 million mobile phone subscribers as the cornerstone of an e-commerce and digital services business to rival Amazon and Walmart's Flipkart. Jio has become Reliance's growth engine, combining with the company's fast-growing retail arm to help in offsetting the decline in oil and petrochemicals. Reliance Industries makes a new pact with BP to sell jet fuel in India

<ul><li>One of India's biggest conglomerates is changing character adapting to the compulsions of the digital age.</li><li>Satya Nadella's appearance was the big surprise at the AGM as Microsoft and Mukesh Ambani joined hands to take on Jeff Bezos' Amazon in areas like cloud computing and targeting small businesses for digital transformation.</li><li>RIL was already shifting focus to its consumer businesses like retail and telecom, but now it is aiming for large scale integration of interests wherever possible.</li><li>Money coming in from Aramco and BP will give RIL more muscle to aggressively take on incumbent telecom players like Airtel and Vodafone-Idea in not just mobile telephony but also in fixed line broadband, Jio Fibre, that will be launched on September 5.</li></ul>All eyes were on Mukesh Ambani today (August 12) who delivered his speech at Reliance Industries' 42nd Annual General Meeting (AGM). Here are the top ten takeaways from a historic speech that laid out the path for the transformation of one of India's biggest and fairly old conglomerate: 1. A $15 billion cash-out Saudi Arabia's state-owned oil producer, Aramco, will buy 20% stake in the Indian behemoth's oil-to-chemicals business, valuing the unit at $75 billion. This would make the investment from Aramco in RIL at about $15 billion. This partnership will be across refining and petrochemical assets. The Saudi government owned oil major will also supply 500 barrels of day crude oil to RIL’s Jamnagar refinery. “This signifies perfect synergy and world’ largest integrated refinery and petchem complex,” Ambani said. 2. More money, less debt Reliance Industries has a huge debt of about $21 billion. This has been a huge concern for investors lately which led to a fall in the stock price in the last few months. However, Ambani declared that the net debt will be zero by March 2021. The company has cash and cash equivalents of about $19.5 billion and another $15 billion from Aramco will help the company retire its massive debt. Small businesses can get the voice/data services, marketing and sales solutions and all Microsoft tools package at a starting price of ₹1,500 a month. 5. The threat to Jeff Bezos Microsoft's tie-up with Jio will, probably, be the biggest challenge for Jeff Bezos in one of the world's biggest markets, India. Reliance will offer end-to-end digital stack to "enable and empower" small merchants currently at the mercy of other online retail platforms like Amazon and Flipkart (now owned by Walmart). This stack will include a point-of-sale payment device, which could be a $900 billion market, according to Jal Irani, analyst at Edelweiss Financial Services. 6. Once an oil giant, now immersed in technology Ambani's plan for digital transformation is that of convergence with the physical world. Reliance Industries plans to take long strides in spaces like 'Internet of Things' (IoT), cloud computing and a broadband ecosystem. So far, Jio had only one revenue stream, and now there will be four more streams of revenue that will kick in from the current financial year itself. "Within another 2 years, there will be over 2 billion connected devices in India, and Jio aims to have half of those on its IoT platform. This will be a ₹20,000 crore revenue opportunity and the commercial ops will begin from January 2020," Ambani said. 7. <keyword id="7975366" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="jio-fibre-launch-date">Jio Fibre launch date</keyword> and tariff plan Jio Fibre will be availabe starting September 5, the third anniversary of Jio's launch, across India. The full network roll-out for Jio Fibre in the next year. After disrupting mobile telephony, Ambani is targeting the fixed line broadband. Of the total 240 million households in India, the broadband penetration in India is only about 10% right now. That leaves Ambani to fight a large under-served market without having to offer deep discounts. Jio will come bundled with most-premium OTT applications. Jio will also release movies on its platforms on the same day as the theatres. Jio Fibre users subscribing for 'forever annual plans' will get an 4K LED television and a 4K set-top box. 8. The difference between Jio mobile and Jio Fibre However, this time Jio does not seem to burn cash offering discounts to win over customers but is betting more on offering more value for a reasonable price. The plans will cost anywhere between ₹700 and ₹10,000 per month. Any voice call on Jio will be free forever. The fixed line international calls will be cheaper by up to 90% of the existing industry tariffs. Calls to US and Canada from India on Jio will cost only ₹500 a month.

 9. From content creator to content aggregator Jio seems to have changed focus from creating fresh content for its platform to building alliances with other OTT platforms. Ambani also revealed that Jio will be able to offer traditional TV channels to its customers. Earlier this year, RIL acquired controlling stakes in Hathway, Den and GTPL. Together, they give RIL access to 30,000 local cable operators. "We have designed a Jio set top box that will broadcast TV channels, for which the local cable operators will get a steady revenue. This set top box will be sold to all Jio Fibre customers," the RIL chairman said. Premium subscribers of Jio Fibre will also be able to watch newly-released movies at the comfort of their home on the day of their release in the theaters. This will be a huge setback for companies like Inox and PVR as Jio's offering may affect footfalls at multiplexes and box office collections too. 10. More bad news for Vodafone Idea and Airtel Jio's mobile phone services has about 340 million subscribers as of now. Ambani is targeting to take this number to over 500 million over the next few months. That would mean Jio will remain an aggressive player in the market and that's bad news for other players like Airtel and Vodafone Idea. Given that RIL is getting additional cash from Aramco and BP, and if it becomes a zero net debt company by March 2021, the company of its size and scale will only have more money to muscle out other players with its aggressive pricing. Other telcos are already in deep trouble after having fought Jio in the market for nearly three years with higher discounts, funded by higher debt. "Reliance Industries' stock may hit a new high, beating its previous high of about ₹1,400, in 2019 itself," SP Tulsian said. Expect a rally when the market reopens for trade on Tuesday (August 13). <keyword id="6355199" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-industries">Reliance Industries</keyword> Ltd (RIL), India's largest company, on Thursday said its board has approved hiving off its USD 75 billion worth oil-to-chemicals business into a separate division to enable the sale of 20 per cent stake in the unit to Saudi national oil company Aramco. The hiving off will be subject to the approval of the National Company Law Tribunal. After the approval, the oil-to-chemical (O2C) business will become a separate vertical with independent balance sheet just like the conglomerate's digital arm, Jio Platforms. RIL had organised all its digital businesses including Reliance Jio that has 388 million telecom subscribers, into Jio Platforms. It last week agreed to sell a 9.99 per cent stake in Jio Platforms to <keyword id="319320" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Facebook-Inc">Facebook Inc</keyword> for USD 5.7 billion. RIL Board "approved a Scheme of Arrangement for transfer of O2C Undertaking of the company to <keyword id="9147221" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-o2c-ltd">Reliance O2C Ltd</keyword> as a going concern on slump sale basis for a lump sum consideration equal to the income tax net worth of the O2C Undertaking as on the appointed date of the Scheme," it said in its fourth-quarter earnings statement. O2C undertaking of the company comprises entire oil-to-chemicals business of the company consisting of refining, petrochemicals, fuel retail and aviation fuel (majority interest only) and bulk wholesale marketing businesses together with its assets and liabilities. "The scheme is subject to necessary statutory/regulatory approvals under applicable laws including approval of National Company Law Tribunal," it added. In August last year, RIL head <keyword id="3820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani">Mukesh Ambani</keyword> had announced initial agreements to sell a 20 per cent stake in the oil-to-chemical business to <keyword id="152170" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Saudi-Aramco">Saudi Aramco</keyword> for an asking of USD 15 billion. The deal covers all of Reliance's refining and petrochemicals assets as well as the remainder of stake the firm has in fuel retailing business after selling 49 per cent to BP Plc of UK for Rs 7,000 crore. The deal, which valued the oil-to-chemical business at USD 75 billion, was to close by March 2020 but it is now expected to close within the current calendar year. Reliance has pivoted away from energy to the new economy. But refining and petrochemicals are cash cows for Reliance and still account for the bulk of its EBITDA. As part of the August deal, Saudi Aramco will supply 500,000 barrels per day (25 million tonnes a year) of crude on a long-term basis to RIL's Jamnagar refinery complex (more than a third of the 1.36 million bpd refining capacity). The deals give Aramco and BP access to the fastest-growing refined fuels market in the world. Market analyst firm Bernstein in a recent report had stated that it expects RIL to grow their petrochemical and refining business given the secular growth opportunities. "While bears will argue that Reliance is stepping away from energy to digital, we see this deal as an opportunity to expand the downstream business in India with a solid partnership. For Aramco, the deal provides direct access to what is widely expected to be the fastest-growing refined oil product market over the next 20 years," it said. "For Reliance, it provides cash to fund the expansion of their digital business and further expansion of downstream capacity with an experienced partner." While talks with Aramco continue, the BP deal has been finalised. Reliance's existing 1,400-odd petrol pumps, as well as 31 aviation fuel stations, will be transferred to the new joint venture where BP will hold 49 per cent equity stake. Reliance will hold the balance 51 per cent in the entity, which aims to expand the retail network to 5,500 petrol pumps in the next five years. This is the third joint venture between Reliance and BP since 2011. BP had in 2011 bought 30 per cent stake in 21 oil and gas exploration and production blocks of Reliance for USD 7.2 billion. At that time, another 50:50 joint venture, <keyword id="838593" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India-Gas-Solutions">India Gas Solutions</keyword>, was set up for sourcing and marketing gas in India. The country currently has 69,109 petrol pumps, with public sector retailers owning 61,811. PSU retailers have plans to double this network and have already started appointing dealers. Russia's Rosneft-backed Nayara Energy, formerly Essar Oil, has 5,702 petrol pumps and has plans to scale them up to more than 7,000 in two-three years. Royal Dutch Shell has 189 outlets and is slated to add 150-200 more petrol pumps. BP had in 2016 received a licence from the government to set up 3,500 petrol pumps in India. French energy giant Total SA too is keen on entering the Indian retail market and has tied up with Adani Group for the same. The Saudi national oil company, along with its partner UAE's Abu Dabhi National Oil Co (ADNOC) has taken a 50 per cent stake in a planned USD 60-billion mega refinery-cum-petrochemical complex in Maharashtra by state-owned oil companies, and has a bullish outlook on India's energy demand and is keen on investing here. Reliance operates two refineries in Jamnagar, Gujarat, with a total capacity of 68.2 million tonnes per annum. It plans to expand its only-for-exports special economic zone (SEZ) refining capacity to just over 41 million tonnes from the current 35.2 million tonnes. Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, is keen to get a foothold in the world's fastest-growing fuel market to get a captive customer for the crude oil it produces. Crude oil is the basic raw material for the manufacturing of petrochemicals. Saudi Aramco is also keen on retailing fuel in India. A refinery in India can also be a base for it to export fuel to deficit countries in Europe and the Americas. India has a refining capacity of 249.9 million tonnes, which exceeded the demand of 213.7 million tonnes.
