What this basically means is that you don’t have to get the latest processors and expensive storage to get the performance of a top end laptop. You can just buy the laptop from Jio, which will likely feature an entry-level chipset. All the computing and storage will occur on the JioCloud and you will need an active internet connection to access this data, unlike traditional laptops where you can access files on your device without the need of an internet connection. “The cost of a laptop depends on its hardware like memory, processing power, chipset etc. The greater capacity of these hardware increases costs as well as battery power. What we are doing is, we are stripping all this and the whole processing of the laptop will happen at the back end in the Jio cloud,” an official familiar with the matter told ET. In addition to the cost of the laptop, the user will reportedly also be charged a monthly subscription fee to use this service. At the moment, there is no information about what the subscription plans will look like but we can expect multiple tiers, based on performance and storage capacity. Unsurprisingly, Jio’s annual plan offers the most value for money, while Airtel’s 28 days plan is the most expensive. It is worth pointing out that Airtel also offers Disney+ Hotstar subscription with this plan, which is why it’s considerably more expensive. KaiOS, the operating system on the Jio Phone, had beat Apple’s operating system to come in second when it was launched in 2018 — mostly due to the popularity of the Jio Phone and its budget pricing. The bigger issue, however, is if these two partnerships are enough. What Qualcomm may bring to the Jio smartphone The company’s JioPhone came with a Qualcomm chipset and that is likely to continue with this renewed partnership. “It remains to be seen how Jio will take on this segment, whether they’re going all out with a 4G smartphone or with Make-in-India,” senior analyst at Counterpoint Tarun Pathak told Business Insider India. How cheap will it be? To call it a “made in India” phone, Ambani has to ensure that the new Jio smartphone is not just assembled in India like in the case of Xiaomi, Apple, Samsung or OnePlus. The steel maker’s debt stands at ₹68,860 crore ($688 billion). “Numbers (earnings growth) were below estimates as EBITDA was expected at ₹19,000 crore and debt repayment was also a bit lower than estimated because of build up in working capital,” said Jatin Damania, research analyst at Kotak Securities. EBITDA ⁠— which stands for earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization ⁠— stood at ₹16,618 crore for the July-September 2021 quarter. That’s a number that the company has not seen in 16 years. It can’t be bad but then again, the market wants to see a significant reduction in debt that piled up over the years. <div type="image" title="tata steel pro" height="900" width="1200" msid="87663142" hostid="261"></div> The temptation to take profit home Some analysts believe the fall in stocks is a profit booking phase given the stock has doubled in 2021 so far. “The stock may have seen a lot of profit booking as it is not cheap. It is up 5 times from the one-year low. I believe 2022 will belong to metals,” Sanjiv Bhasin, executive vice president, markets &amp; corporate affairs at India Infoline, told Business Insider. Meanwhile, analysts at CLSA reportedly expect Tata Steel shares to hit ₹1,950 in the next one year, that would mean a 50% rally from Thursday’s close of ₹1,299. <div type="image" title="tata steel" height="900" width="1200" msid="87663164" hostid="261"></div> It’s not all gloomy There is a reason why both India Infoline, CLSA and others expect next year to be better. The pressure on prices that’s visible now may ease because the power shortages in China have led factories to idle and production to fall. Google will invest in the following four areas <ul><li>First, enabling affordable access and information for every Indian in their own language, whether it’s Hindi, Tamil, Punjabi or any other</li><li>Second, building new products and services that are deeply relevant to India’s unique needs.</li><li>Third, empowering businesses as they continue or embark on their digital transformation.</li><li>Fourth, leveraging technology and AI for social good, in areas like health, education, and agriculture. </li></ul>“There’s no question we are facing a difficult moment today, in India and around the world. The dual challenges to our health and to our economies have forced us to rethink how we work and how we live. But times of challenge can lead to incredible moments of innovation. Our goal is to ensure India not only benefits from the next wave of innovation, but leads it,” said Pichai. Google follows Facebook – partners with CBSE Google has also announced a partnership with the Central Board of Secondary Education, just days after social media giant Facebook too had partnered with the board. Through its partnership, Google aims to enable over 1 million teachers across 22,000 schools in India. The tech giant also announced an additional investment of $1 million into Kaivalya Education Foundation to train 700,000 teachers on online education to impart knowledge to children in low income communities in India. The company’s marketing head for India and Southeast Asia Sapna Chadha also spoke about Google’s efforts in vernacular language education in India. She said that over the last few years, Google.org, Google’s philanthropic venture, has invested $12 million into companies like TheTeacherApp, Pratham and Central Square Foundation to create content in local languages.
