New Delhi [India], July 12 (ANI): <keyword id="20043730" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio-Financial-Services" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Jio Financial Services" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Jio Financial Services">Jio Financial Services</keyword> has received the nod from the <keyword id="19899810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reserve-Bank-of-India" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Reserve Bank of India" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Reserve Bank of India">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (<keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords">RBI</keyword>) to convert into a <keyword id="20871282" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Core-Investment-Company" source="keywords">Core Investment Company</keyword> (CIC) from a Non-Banking Financial Company (<keyword id="19938496" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NBFC" source="keywords">NBFC</keyword>). The company in an official statement on Thursday stated that "Further to the disclosure dated November 21, 2023, the Company has today received from the Reserve Bank of India approval for conversion of the Company from Non-Banking Financial Company to Core <keyword id="19895437" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="investment" source="keywords">Investment</keyword> Company." According to the Reserve Bank of India, a CIC is a specialised NBFC with an minimum asset size of Rs 100 crore. The RBI's circular dated December 20, 2016 stated that, a CIC's main business is the acquisition of shares and securities with certain conditions. One of the conditions stipulated by the central bank is that the CIC holds not less than 90 percent of its net assets in the form of investment in equity shares, preference shares, bonds, debentures, debt or loans in group companies. The transition from an NBFC to a CIC involves several key changes in the company's operational framework. As a Core Investment Company, <keyword id="2003276" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio" source="Orion">Jio</keyword> Financial Services will primarily focus on investments in and the management of its subsidiaries companies. The transformation to a CIC structure would enable Jio Financial Services to delineate the financials and operations of each subsidiary, to provide better value discovery for investors. Unlike typical NBFCs, CICs are non-deposit taking financial companies that have their assets predominantly invested in the equity shares, preference shares, or debt instruments of their group companies. As a CIC, the company gains greater operational flexibility. It can now focus on core investment activities without engaging in other financial services. The CICs can explore different sectors and diversify their investment portfolio. This flexibility allows them to adapt to changing market conditions. The shares of the company also surged more than 1.5 per cent during the opening session on Friday, and stands at Rs 353.25 at the time of filing this report. (ANI)

Jio Financials gets RBI nod to become Core Investment Company

New Delhi: India is set to enter a transformative "smartphone era" for cars in 2025, with the introduction of vehicles featuring 5G M2M connectivity and advanced AI technologies, according to the latest findings from Techarc's India Connected Consumer Report 2025. The report said the automotive sector will skip 4G and will enable connectivity using the latest 5G cellular technology. It observed that consumers are interested in spending money on improving the value proposition in terms of features, quality and experience rather than exploring too many smart devices. "22 per cent of the respondents shared about considering optimising their smart devices portfolio. Among the new set of categories, smart/connected cars is generating high interest among consumers. 55 per cent of the respondents said that they have come across news or information about smart/connected cars in recent times," it said. Starting in 2025, passenger cars in India will be equipped with 5G M2M connectivity, on-device GenAI, and cloud connectivity, making advanced technologies accessible across various price segments, it added. In-vehicle computing and artificial intelligence (GenAI), along with cloud applications, will become essential components of cars, enabling real-time data processing to support drivers effectively. Most cars priced at Rs 20 lakh and above will feature these technologies as standard. The cumulative revenues from automotive chipset companies have already surpassed USD 1.5 billion, with companies like Qualcomm and MediaTek leading the market. Some of the familiar applications that consumers will be able to use while driving include communication apps for audio/video conferencing, OTT entertainment apps, music streaming, podcasts, online shopping, vehicle maintenance, and servicing. "With connectivity and the technologies it brings to the cars, the future of the automobile sector will be fundamentally determined by the auto-technologies that will influence the overall experience, performance, comfort, safety and entertainment available to the drivers as well as the passengers. "So far, such features were seen as luxury or high-end experiences. But starting 2025, many of these will become mainstream for cars in India," Techarc AutoTech Analyst Sadat Ahanger said. With 22 automobile manufacturers producing nearly 5 million passenger vehicles annually in India, the country is poised to become a leader in the global 5G M2M market within the next few years, the report said. About 21 per cent of respondents said MG Motors is the leader in providing <keyword id="24016739" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="connected-cars-in-India" source="keywords">connected cars in India</keyword>, followed closely by Kia Motors at 18 per cent and Tata Motors at 15 per cent, it added. Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki also ranked among the top-five brands in this category. The report draws insights from a survey of 4,500 "connected consumers" across metro and non-metro cities. The report defined a connected consumer as one owning at least 3 smart devices in addition to a smartphone.

JioBharat V3 and V4 4G feature phones launched at ₹1,099

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio had announced a tariff hike, which was followed by Airtel and Vi. The telcos had announced a tariff hike of up to 25%, which came into effect from July. The three telcos have lost significant subscribers during the July-September quarter. In September 2024, there was a net decline of 5.02 million users in the total subscriber base, taking the total subscribers to 1.153 billion at the end of the month. <h2>Reliance Jio records a huge decline in subscribers</h2>Reliance Jio recorded a decrease of 7.97 million subscribers in September 2024. With this, the telco’s subscriber base has declined from 471.75 million in August to 463.78 million in September 2024. Out of the 463.78 million subscribers, the company’s active subscriber base stood at 444.49 million, which is 95.84%, marking a steady increase in its active subscriber base. Sunil Mittal-led Bharti Airtel has also recorded a significant decline in its subscriber base in September at 1.43 million users. The telco’s subscriber base declined from 384.91 million in August 2024 to 383.48 million in September 2024. The telco continues to enjoy a high active subscriber base. The company's active subscribers stand at 380.68 million users out of its 383.48 million users, which is 99.27% of its total user base, the highest among all the telcos. <h2>Vi continues to bleed subscribers</h2>Vi, which is yet to launch 5G services in the country has once again reported a huge decline in subscribers. The company lost 1.55 million users in September 2024. The company’s subscriber base decreased from 214 million in August 2024 to 212.45 million users in September 2024. Out of the 212.45 million users, the company’s active user base stands at 179.52 million users, which is 84.50%. <h2>BSNL gains subscribers</h2>BSNL, the only telco that did not raise its tariff continues to gain subscribers. The telco recorded a growth of 0.85 million subscribers in September 2024, taking its total subscriber base from 91.05 million users in August 2024 to 91.90 million in September 2024. <h2>MNP requests continue to grow</h2>Mobile number portability (MNP), which allows users to shift from one telecom operator to another, recorded 13.32 million requests during September 2024. With this, the total number of MNP requests received since the introduction of this in November 2010 has reached 1.04 billion. Jio, Airtel and Vi lost nearly 11 million subscribers in September 2024

State-owned <keyword id="19970536" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSNL" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="BSNL" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="BSNL">BSNL</keyword> will start rolling out <keyword id="21279641" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="4G-services" source="keywords">4G services</keyword> across the country from August, using completely indigenous technology in line with the government's "Atmanirbhar" policy, according to official sources. BSNL officials claimed to have recorded peak speed of 40-45 megabit per second on the 4G network which has been rolled out in the premium spectrum band of 700 megahertz (Mhz) as well as in 2,100 Mhz band during the pilot phase. The company has rolled out 4G services in Punjab using indigenously developed technology by IT company TCS and state-run telecom research organisation C-DoT-led consortium and onboarded around 8 lakh subscribers. "The 4G core developed by C-DoT is performing very well in the BSNL network in Punjab. It was installed in July last year. It takes 12 month to prove the success of such complex technology but the C-DoT core has stabilised within 10 months. BSNL will launch atmanirbhar 4G technology across the country in August," a senior government official, who did not wish to be named, told PTI. The core network is a collection of network hardware, devices, and software that provides fundamental services in a telecommunication network. Telecom regulator <keyword id="19942079" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Trai" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Trai" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Trai">Trai</keyword> in a recent paper explained core as part of a network that offers the functionality of aggregation, call control, switching, authentication, charging, gateway functionality, etc. TCS, Tejas Networks and government-owned ITI have bagged orders worth about Rs 19,000 crore from BSNL for deploying 4G network which is upgradable to 5G. In a recent earnings call, Tejas Networks Executive Director and chief operating officer Arnob Roy said BSNL's mobile network is getting deployed across zones. He said that wherever the C-DOT core is not available on the BSNL network, the equipment is getting integrated to the existing core. "When the C-DOT core gets deployed in those circles, in those zones, they will get parented to the C-DOT core as well. Tejas Networks Limited. This is just a temporary situation where the RAN (radio access network) is deployed and in that zone, the core is not available," Roy said. BSNL is in the process of deploying 1.12 lakh towers for 4G and <keyword id="20041753" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G-services" source="keywords">5G services</keyword> across India. "The company has installed over 9,000 towers for 4G service across the country, out of which more than 6,000 are active in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, UP West and Haryana circle. BSNL has been selling 4G capable SIM only for the last 4-5 years. Only those customers who have older SIM will need to get new SIM to experience the service," a BSNL official said. BSNL to launch 4G services across India in August; to use indigenous technology

Bharti Airtel lost around 2.9 million mobile subscribers in the quarter to reach 352 million. Reliance Jio lost around 10.9 million subscribers in the quarter to reach 479 million subscribers whereas Vi lost 5.1 million subscribers in this quarter mainly in the 2G segment to reach 205 million subscribers. This quarter also saw increased porting to the government-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), from private operators as tariffs were not raised by the telco. The report says SIM consolidation is expected to be largely over by the end of the third quarter of the current fiscal. It adds that besides tariff hikes, ARPU for the sector will continue to grow also led by subscribers moving from 2G to 4G and growth in post-paid subscribers. The report says with these changes and reforms of September 2021, the telecom sector is moving towards some sort of stability. Tariff hikes in December 2019, November 2021 and July 2024 have led to a steady rise in operator’s ARPU. About the revival of Vi, the report says the government now has a 24% equity stake in the telco. The company is in discussion with banks to raise debt capital of ₹250 billion for its capex plans of ₹500-550 billion over the next 3 years to improve its network capacity. The announcement came on Monday as Jio revealed its quarterly results, showcasing staggering numbers and milestones achieved in various segments. As of March 2024, Jio boasts a subscriber base of 481.8 million, out of which 108 million subscribers are on Jio's True5G Standalone network. The number reflects Jio's stronghold in the Indian telecom market. According to a press release, the total traffic on the Jio network has reached 40.9 Exabytes, marking a 35.2 per cent year-on-year increase. This surge is attributed to the growing adoption of 5G and Home services. Notably, 28 per cent of the traffic comes from 5G subscribers, indicating a swift transition towards next-generation connectivity. Additionally, Jio's Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services have contributed significantly to the data traffic. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a dramatic 2.4x increase in annual data traffic, with per capita monthly data usage skyrocketing to 28.7 GB from just 13.3 GB three years ago. This surge underscores the growing reliance on digital connectivity in India. Commenting on the results, <keyword id="3820" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani" source="Orion">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, expressed his satisfaction with the company's performance and its contribution to the Indian economy. He highlighted the significant achievements, including becoming the first Indian company to cross the Rs 100,000-crore threshold in pre-tax profits. In addition to its telecom and retail segments, Reliance Industries Limited has shown resilience in its Oil to Chemicals (O2C) segment, despite challenging market conditions. The KG-D6 block has achieved significant production milestones, accounting for 30 per cent of India's domestic gas production. Ambani emphasised, "Strong demand for fuels globally, and limited flexibility in refining system worldwide, supported margins and profitability of the O2C segment. Downstream chemical industry experienced increasingly challenging market conditions through the year." He added, "Despite headwinds, maintaining leading product positions and feedstock flexibility through our operating model that prioritises cost management, we delivered a resilient performance. The KG-D6 block has achieved 30 MMSCMD of production and now accounts for 30 per cent of India's domestic gas production." In terms of financial performance, Reliance Jio has achieved several remarkable milestones. The consolidated EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) at Rs 178,677 crore, while the consolidated Profit Before Tax (PBT) has surpassed Rs 100,000 crore. Telecom billionaire Patrick Drahi's Altice UK, the largest shareholder in BT, has been struggling with high debt. "Bharti Global, the international investment arm of Bharti Enterprises, a leading Indian business group with world-class companies in telecoms, digital infrastructure and space communications, has reached an agreement to acquire an interest in 24.5 per cent of the issued share capital of BT Group plc from Altice UK," Bharti said in a release. Bharti hopes the investment will further help create new synergies in the telecom sector between India and UK in the areas of AI and <keyword id="19916120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G" source="keywords">5G</keyword> R&amp;D and core engineering among others, "offering great potential to collaborate on industry best practices and emerging technologies". It is pertinent to mention here that Bharti and BT have a relationship going back more than two decades. In 1997, BT acquired a 21 per cent stake in Bharti Airtel, and hence Bharti's latest move to acquire a 24.5 per cent chunk in the iconic British company marks a defining moment for the Indian telecom conglomerate.
