JioStar announces plans starting at ₹15 – here’s everything you need to know

New Delhi [India], July 12 (ANI): <keyword id="20043730" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio-Financial-Services" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Jio Financial Services" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Jio Financial Services">Jio Financial Services</keyword> has received the nod from the <keyword id="19899810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reserve-Bank-of-India" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Reserve Bank of India" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Reserve Bank of India">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (<keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords">RBI</keyword>) to convert into a <keyword id="20871282" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Core-Investment-Company" source="keywords">Core Investment Company</keyword> (CIC) from a Non-Banking Financial Company (<keyword id="19938496" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NBFC" source="keywords">NBFC</keyword>). The company in an official statement on Thursday stated that "Further to the disclosure dated November 21, 2023, the Company has today received from the Reserve Bank of India approval for conversion of the Company from Non-Banking Financial Company to Core <keyword id="19895437" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="investment" source="keywords">Investment</keyword> Company." According to the Reserve Bank of India, a CIC is a specialised NBFC with an minimum asset size of Rs 100 crore. The RBI's circular dated December 20, 2016 stated that, a CIC's main business is the acquisition of shares and securities with certain conditions. One of the conditions stipulated by the central bank is that the CIC holds not less than 90 percent of its net assets in the form of investment in equity shares, preference shares, bonds, debentures, debt or loans in group companies. The transition from an NBFC to a CIC involves several key changes in the company's operational framework. As a Core Investment Company, <keyword id="2003276" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio" source="Orion">Jio</keyword> Financial Services will primarily focus on investments in and the management of its subsidiaries companies. The transformation to a CIC structure would enable Jio Financial Services to delineate the financials and operations of each subsidiary, to provide better value discovery for investors. Unlike typical NBFCs, CICs are non-deposit taking financial companies that have their assets predominantly invested in the equity shares, preference shares, or debt instruments of their group companies. As a CIC, the company gains greater operational flexibility. It can now focus on core investment activities without engaging in other financial services. The CICs can explore different sectors and diversify their investment portfolio. This flexibility allows them to adapt to changing market conditions. The shares of the company also surged more than 1.5 per cent during the opening session on Friday, and stands at Rs 353.25 at the time of filing this report. (ANI)

Jio Financials gets RBI nod to become Core Investment Company

The announcement came on Monday as Jio revealed its quarterly results, showcasing staggering numbers and milestones achieved in various segments. As of March 2024, Jio boasts a subscriber base of 481.8 million, out of which 108 million subscribers are on Jio's True5G Standalone network. The number reflects Jio's stronghold in the Indian telecom market. According to a press release, the total traffic on the Jio network has reached 40.9 Exabytes, marking a 35.2 per cent year-on-year increase. This surge is attributed to the growing adoption of 5G and Home services. Notably, 28 per cent of the traffic comes from 5G subscribers, indicating a swift transition towards next-generation connectivity. Additionally, Jio's Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services have contributed significantly to the data traffic. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a dramatic 2.4x increase in annual data traffic, with per capita monthly data usage skyrocketing to 28.7 GB from just 13.3 GB three years ago. This surge underscores the growing reliance on digital connectivity in India. Commenting on the results, <keyword id="3820" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani" source="Orion">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, expressed his satisfaction with the company's performance and its contribution to the Indian economy. He highlighted the significant achievements, including becoming the first Indian company to cross the Rs 100,000-crore threshold in pre-tax profits. Ambani said, "Initiatives across RIL's businesses have made a remarkable contribution towards fostering growth of various sectors of the Indian economy. It is heartening to note that alongside strengthening the national economy, all segments have posted a robust financial and operating performance. This has helped the Company achieve multiple milestones. I am happy to share that this year, Reliance became the first Indian company to cross the Rs 100,000-crore threshold in pre-tax profits." Ambani also emphasized Jio's role in driving the digital transformation in India, from upgrading 2G users to smartphones to leading the effort in producing AI-driven solutions. He reiterated Jio's commitment to strengthening the nation's digital infrastructure and its continued efforts to provide innovative solutions to consumers. The company's retail arm, Reliance Retail, also showed robust growth, with a 36 per cent increase in footfalls and strong digital commerce platforms offering a broad brand catalogue. "Reliance Retail continued to provide customers endless choices through its robust omni-channel presence. We continue to offer product differentiation and superior offline experience through stores remodelling and revamping of layouts. Our digital commerce platforms also provide newer solutions to users with a broad brand catalogue. Reliance Retail also works towards strengthening millions of merchants through its unique initiatives in new commerce space", said Ambani. In addition to its telecom and retail segments, Reliance Industries Limited has shown resilience in its Oil to Chemicals (O2C) segment, despite challenging market conditions. The KG-D6 block has achieved significant production milestones, accounting for 30 per cent of India's domestic gas production. Ambani emphasised, "Strong demand for fuels globally, and limited flexibility in refining system worldwide, supported margins and profitability of the O2C segment. Downstream chemical industry experienced increasingly challenging market conditions through the year." He added, "Despite headwinds, maintaining leading product positions and feedstock flexibility through our operating model that prioritises cost management, we delivered a resilient performance. The KG-D6 block has achieved 30 MMSCMD of production and now accounts for 30 per cent of India's domestic gas production." In terms of financial performance, Reliance Jio has achieved several remarkable milestones. The consolidated EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) at Rs 178,677 crore, while the consolidated Profit Before Tax (PBT) has surpassed Rs 100,000 crore. The company's market capitalization has crossed Rs 20,00,000 crore, further solidifying its position as one of India's most valuable companies. "This approach makes the network more accessible for innovative applications to shape user experiences," he added.Crawford told Business Insider that this could be complex for some businesses. They often need to decide whether the cost and time needed to upgrade infrastructure and equipment to make it 5G-compatible is worth it.BI spoke with Crawford about these challenges, the types of complementary technologies that can help companies boost connectivity, and how they could unlock 5G's full potential.The following has been edited for length and clarity.What types of complementary technologies should companies focus on to enhance 5G's capabilities?WiFi is the most universal technology. We have computers, laptops, and other devices connected to WiFi, or if you're not relying on WiFi, they use some protocol that's cellularly connected. All these things will need to work together, but the one common factor is their touchpoints to the network.There's an entire ecosystem of devices and tool sets and general employee knowledge that is necessary to be built up to support something that is centered on a single technology like 5G.While the complexity of 5G might seem daunting for companies, especially with the added challenges of existing technologies, we have a responsibility to simplify connectivity for service providers, enterprises, and, ultimately, the end users.We're also trying to remove siloes that have existed. A mobile network has always been siloed from the physical broadband network. There are reasons behind it, but now, how do we integrate them to be sure the experience is seamless and flawless?How does breaking down siloes and focusing on complementary technology benefit businesses?If we can shift our mindset, 5G could very well usher in a new age focused on multiaccess user experiences. There is a likely future where consumers will never need to know whether they are connected to WiFi, 4G, 5G, 6G, or whatever next-generation connectivity technology comes next. If experience expectations are being fulfilled, how users are connected won't matter.The network elements for 5G are designed to distribute roles to empower companies with control, access, and insight. It gives a business the tools to operate similarly to how it is today without feeling like they're handing off the communicative arm of its IT to an entity. If the power goes out or the networks go down, how much will it impact your business? No business wants to forecast that risk in their planning.With 5G, that control can be migrated into the business instead of businesses having to hire experts to understand what mobile networks look like and negotiate the handoffs between a public network and a private network. It simplifies all of that.It's a simplification tool that extends and expands the reach of what a business can do today across the globe.What advice do you have for companies to derive the most value out of 5G?The first thing is understanding your use cases and having a good grasp of your existing technology stack. Looking at the big picture is important for understanding your needs today but also making sure that tomorrow isn't forgotten. It's very important that your ecosystem is front and center in your decision-making process.The goal should be simplifying and expanding what you're already capable of. It's a democratization of connectivity and access.Investing in 5G isn't a one-time thing. It's a long-term decision — an ongoing commitment to innovation, development, and opportunity. It's important that you're not buying technology for technology's sake. Be comfortable not knowing everything and trusting your partners.
