<ul><li>The new computer houses 9 billion transistors. </li><li>This computer can perform over 30 trillion operations per second. </li><li><keyword id="113675" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="nVidia">NVIDIA</keyword>’s new computer comes with a software development package to support <keyword id="107950" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="artificial-intelligence">Artificial Intelligence</keyword> (<keyword id="6355999" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ai">AI</keyword>) software development. </li></ul>On Sunday at <keyword id="163091" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Computex">Computex</keyword> 2018 in Taiwan, Jetson Huang, the co-founder and CEO of <a href="http://www.nvidia.com/content/global/global.php">NVIDIA, </a>showcased two of its newest products developed to create, program and train intelligent <keyword id="16719" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="robots">robots</keyword>. With the two new products <keyword id="6590955" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="jetson-xavier">Jetson Xavier</keyword> and <keyword id="6596826" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="nvidia-isaac">NVIDIA Isaac</keyword>, making an intelligent robot won't just be easier, but it will be cheaper as well. Jetson Xavier is the world's first computer which is specifically designed for robotics, according to NVIDIA. The new chipset houses 9 billion transistors, that have a capacity to deliver over 30 teraflops (trillion operations) per second. And all this performance is delivered by consuming only a third of the energy that a light bulb uses. This computer also houses half-a-dozen processors including a Volta Tensor Core GPU, core ARM64 CPU, dual NVDL deep learning accelerators, an image processor, a vision processor and a video processor. “This level of performance is essential for a robot to take input from sensors, locate itself, perceive its environment, recognize and predict motion of nearby objects, reason about what action to perform and articulate itself safely,” says NVIDIA’s <a href="https://nvidianews.nvidia.com/news/nvidia-isaac-launches-new-era-of-autonomous-machines">press release</a>. To support and make all this processing power accessible to the users and to extend the performance boundaries of such an incredible piece of hardware, NVIDIA also introduced the NVIDIA Isaac. NVIDIA Isaac is an advanced software which has three components: <ul><li>Isaac SDK: Just like Android comes with the Android SDK, NVIDIA has introduced its own software development kit which will empower developers with a collection of tools to create their own AI software.</li><li>Isaac IMX: Isaac Intelligent Machine Acceleration applications is a collection of NVIDIA-developed robotics algorithm software. NVIDIA also claims that this would save developers “months of development time and effort”.</li><li>Isaac SIM: It is a simulated training environment where developers can train their AI models.</li></ul>NVIDIA is planning to introduce the Jetson Xavier computers with a price tag of $1299, which is almost one-tenth the price of workstations with comparable processing power. If this computer lives up to its promises it could revolutionise the AI industry and make AI development more affordable for students and professionals.

Computex 2018: Building smart robots gets easier with this new tech

<ul><li><keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword> has forayed into the field of robotics with its first solution, the <keyword id="11832700" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="cyberdog">CyberDog</keyword>. </li><li>CyberDog is a robotic version of a dog and promises to mimic the movements and behaviour of its natural counterpart. </li><li>To kickstart development, Xiaomi has open-sourced the CyberDog, allowing third-party developers to develop new use cases and implement their ideas. </li></ul>Smartphone maker Xiaomi has dipped its toes in the field of robotics that is dominated by names like <keyword id="1005599" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Boston-Dynamics">Boston Dynamics</keyword>, with the announcement of CyberDog, a robotic version of the man’s best friend. The CyberDog is Xiaomi’s first quadruped robotic companion – it is open source, so developers can develop use cases and implement their own ideas. Enlisting community support is essential for a product that is currently in very early stages of development. The <keyword id="11832701" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi-CyberDog">Xiaomi CyberDog</keyword> is powered by the company’s in-house servo motors that the company says offers it “great speed, agility” and a wide range of motion. Its <a href="https://blog.mi.com/en/2021/08/10/xiaomi-launches-cyberdog-an-open-source-quadruped-robot-companion/">blog post</a> states that the CyberDog can conduct high-speed movements of up to 3.2m/s, roughly translating to 12km/hour. The CyberDog can also do things like backflips, responding to touch thanks to sensors, but it cannot give the furry experience that a normal dog would. On a serious note, powering these complex actions is Nvidia’s Jetson Xavier NX AI computing platform, which comprises two deep learning acceleration engines, allowing the CyberDog to learn and adapt according to its experiences. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Leveraging the power of 21 trillion operations per second" comment="subhead" text="Leveraging the power of 21 trillion operations per second">Leveraging the power of 21 trillion operations per second</cmsannotation> The Xavier NX platform produces 21 trillion operations per second (TOPS), allowing the dog to perform a wide range of actions, but most importantly, let it move swiftly and naturally, sensing depths to avoid obstacles and gauging an area. Enlisting community support for its products is not new for Xiaomi – the company acquired the community-made MIUI ecosystem a decade ago to power its smartphones. It has also used community development as one of the primary tools to make its devices popular amongst enthusiasts during the early days of its smartphone journey. It will be interesting to see if Xiaomi is able to replicate this with its robotics solutions as well. The CyberDog is priced at CNY 9,999 (approx. ₹1,15,000) and Xiaomi plans to sell 1,000 units initially. Whether personal robotics solutions like this one will take off or not remains to be seen.
