Rihanna Posts Photo To Prove She's Still With Chris Brown - Here's Today's Buzz

<div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image on-image">Reuters/Mario AnzuoniFormer <keyword id="6367992" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Porn">porn</keyword> actress Jenna Jameson is one of the world's most famous adult entertainment stars.</div></div>A federal judge has written a<a href="http://www.scribd.com/doc/182638954/Porn-Copyright-Order-pdf"> scathing order</a> finding a company called AF Holdings Inc. filed bogus lawsuits accusing people of illegally downloading online porn.
AF Holdings filed five different lawsuits accusing people of illegally downloading porn that AF supposedly held the <keyword id="42436" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Copyright">copyright</keyword> to. Four of those cases quickly settled for sums ranging from $3,500 to $6,000.
In an unusual move, Judge Franklin Noel is forcing AF Holdings to return the settlement cash after finding the company couldn't prove it held the copyright to "Popular Demand" and "Sexual Obsession."
"AF Holdings failed to produce any credible evidence that the [copyright] assignments were authentic," Minnesota federal judge Noel wrote, in an opinion <a href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/emmawoollacott/2013/11/08/another-judge-slams-prenda-over-porn-download-lawsuits/">reported on by Forbes</a>. "The court has been the victim of a fraud perpetrated by AF Holdings, LLC."
Perhaps the most egregious part of is the judge's finding that AF allegedly used a forged signature on a copyright-assignment agreement. The name on that agreement was of Alan Cooper, a caretaker at the Minnesota cabin of John Steele, one of the lawyers involved with AF and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/attorney-john-steele-profile-2012-10">a self-described "copyright troll</a>."
Cooper testified that he never signed the agreement or held a position with AF Holdings, according to Judge Noel's order, which referred to AF's business as part of "an apparent scheme."
Judge Noel is not the first jurist to slam AF Holdings and the <keyword id="6355470" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Law">law</keyword>yers associated with it. In May, Judge Otis Wright accused Prenda Law - a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/prenda-law-dissolves-after-sanctions-2013-8">now-defunct law firm</a> whose lawyers formed AF Holdings - of launching a multimillion dollar "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/judge-slams-lawyers-over-porn-lawsuit-2013-5">porn-trolling collective</a>."
Here's how AF Holdings' alleged porn trolling works. The company files copyright lawsuits against "John Does" who can only be identified through their ISP addresses. Through the court discovery process, AF finds out the identities of these John Does. Then they offer to settle for an amount just below the cost of a "bare bones defense," as Judge Wright wrote.
If alleged illegal downloaders don't settle, they risk being "outed" as porn watchers while they fight litigation brought by AF.

JUDGE: 'Porn Copyright Trolls' Defrauded My Court

<div class="image-container float_right" style="width:480px"><div class="image">Reuters/Mario AnzuoniFormer <keyword id="6367992" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Porn">porn</keyword> actress Jenna Jameson is one of the world's most famous adult entertainment stars.</div></div>A <keyword id="6355470" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Law">law</keyword> firm known for <a href="http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-05-30/prenda-law-the-porn-copyright-trolls">threatening to sue thousands</a> of Americans for illegally downloading pornos has <a href="http://www.law.com/jsp/nlj/PubArticleNLJ.jsp?id=1202613664466&amp;After_Sanctions_Law_Firm_in_Porn_Suits_Dissolves">voluntarily dissolved</a> following a judge's scathing ruling accusing its lawyers of "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/judge-slams-lawyers-over-porn-lawsuit-2013-5">moral turptitude</a>," reports Amanda Bronstad at National Law Journal.
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prenda_Law">Prenda Law</a>'s implosion is not entirely surprising. Two of the firm's four lawyers have turned against each other in court, according to The National Law Journal, and Prenda has had <a href="http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2013/07/another-judge-has-a-serious-question-about-prenda-porn-trolls/">an onslaught of bad press</a> recently.
Prenda's most famous lawyer, John Steele, gave a <a href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/kashmirhill/2012/10/15/how-porn-copyright-lawyer-john-steele-justifies-his-pursuit-of-sometimes-innocent-porn-pirates/#more-16339">somewhat tongue-in-cheek</a> interview in Forbes defending the firm's business model back in October. That model involves sending letters threatening to sue people for <keyword id="42436" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Copyright">copyright</keyword> infringement over allegedly illegal porn downloads.
These potentially innocent people can make the suits go away for just a few thousand dollars. Otherwise they have to go to trial, are publicly outed as porn fans, and may have to pay even more money.
“I’m considered the original copyright troll,” Steele <a href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/kashmirhill/">told Forbes' Kashmir Hill</a>. “At least my wife loves me. When I read about myself on the Internet, I think, ‘Who is this jerk?’”
Things got a little more serious for Prenda in May, when Judge Otis Wright accused its lawyers of being total shysters. The judge ordered the lawyers — Steele as well as Paul Hansmeier, Paul Duffy, and Brett Gibbs — to pay $81,300 in legal fees and penalties in a case they filed against an alleged illegal downloader on behalf of a porn copyright holder called Ingenuity 13.
Wright also told each of the lawyer's bar associations they'd engaged in "moral turptitude" by coercing people into settling <keyword id="387129" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="lawsuits">lawsuits</keyword> to avoid a public shaming, what he called a "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/judge-slams-lawyers-over-porn-lawsuit-2013-5?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed:+businessinsider+(Business+Insider)">porn trolling collective</a>."
After Wright denounced the firm, Gibbs filed a motion to have his name withdrawn as the lawyer for Ingenuity 13, <a href="http://www.dailybusinessreview.com/PubArticleDBR.jsp?id=1202613872369&amp;thepage=1">The National Law Journal</a> reported. That prompted Steele to file a complaint with the California Bar accusing his colleague of lying about being involved in the case.
“Attorney Gibbs acted inappropriately in a case in front of Judge Wright and filed pleadings that insulted the court,” Steele reportedly wrote in the complaint. “When he was forced to answer for his misconduct, he lied and blamed others who had no relation to the case.”
Wright wasn't the only judge insulted by Prenda's way of doing business. In July, Judge Edward Chen ruled that Prenda filed a case against another alleged illegal downloader "without proof" or standing, <a href="http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2013/07/another-judge-has-a-serious-question-about-prenda-porn-trolls/">Ars Technica reported</a>.
"There's a serious question raised about the whole business model here... [about whether] this is a business model to generate income through coerced settlements," Chen ruled.
