"In our last video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modiji, I had been vocal against the UGC guidelines mandating completion of terminal examinations in universities and colleges by the end of September 2020, which had a huge potential to put student lives at risk," Banerjee tweeted. It is to be noted that NEET is scheduled on September 13 and JEE-Mains will be held from September 1-6. "Now with the directive of the Education Ministry to conduct NEET, JEE 2020 in September, I would again appeal to the Centre to assess the risk and postpone these examinations until the situation is conducive again,a she said. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee urges Centre to postpone NEET-JEE 2020

NEW DELHI: The <keyword id="581232" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Testing-Agency">National Testing Agency</keyword> has released the <keyword id="178605" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Joint-Entrance-Examination">Joint Entrance Examination</keyword> (JEE) Main II (April 2019) results and NTA Score on Monday, i.e., April 29, 2019. The JEE (Main) April 2019 result has been declared at the JEE official website https://jeemain.nic.in around 09:00 pm. The candidates, who appeared for the JEE (Main) April 2019 examination, can check their results through candidate login by visiting the official website (link is given below). According to the official "Information Bulletin" the result was to be declared on or before April 30, 2019 but it has been declared a day earlier than the scheduled date. <a href="https://jeemain.nic.in/jeemainresult/root/authcandwithdob.aspx" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">Click here to check JEE Main April 2019 score </a> Earlier, the <keyword id="4468795" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="JEE-Main-Result">JEE Main result</keyword> declaration news was doing the rounds today at the social media since morning. When asked about the result declaration time, the official said, "It will be declared toward late evening". Result can be checked via the official login. This time, the candidates can also get to see their All India Rank (AIR) in the result. The AIR has also been announced for all the candidates who appeared for the exam in January and April. Candidates who appeared for both the exam have been allocated on the basis of best of the two percentile score. How NTA Scores calculated NTA scores were calculated corresponding to the raw marks obtained by a candidate. The calculated NTA scores for all the shifts/sessions were merged and then results are declared. The four NTA scores for each of the candidates in Paper-1 of JEE (Main) – January 2019 as well as for the April 2019 will be merged for compilation of result and preparation of overall Merit List /Ranking. For the candidates who appeared in both the attempts, best of the two NTA scores (total) will be considered for further processing.

It today announced a two-year post-study work visa for international students. And the increasing number of Indian students in the UK, have a lot to gain. Their numbers doubled in the last three years. This new scheme will apply to all international students having UK immigration status, who have completed an undergraduate or higher educational degree from any UK university. “The new graduate route will mean talented international students, whether in science and maths or technology and engineering, can study in the UK and then gain valuable work experience as they go on to build successful careers,” said Home Secretary Priti Patel. This will allow students to gain more industry-relevant skills and experience in their chosen field of education. The UK has already fast-tracked visas for research scholars. It aims to boost STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) sector in the country. In fact, almost half of all Indian students in the UK over the last decade chose a STEM subject as their field of study. According to the British High Commission, 96% of Indians willing to go to the UK, have received UK visas. “This will help ensure that the UK remains one of the best destinations for students across the world. Last year alone we saw a massive 42% increase in the number of Indian students,” Sir <keyword id="3277271" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dominic-Asquith">Dominic Asquith</keyword>, British High Commissioner to India said. Overall, nearly 22,000 Indians received student visas for the year ending June 2019, which is 15,000 more than last year. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Fate Winslow was released from <keyword id="60111" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Louisiana">Louisiana</keyword> State Penitentiary in Angola last week after serving 12 years for a non-violent drug offense.</li><li>Winslow was convicted for marijuana distribution after selling $20 worth of marijuana to an undercover police officer in 2008. </li><li>Now, finally released, he told Insider has plans to reconnect with his family and pursue a job in landscaping. </li></ul>It's been more than a week since Fate Winslow <a href="https://www.insider.com/louisiana-man-serving-life-for-maraijuana-offense-released-from-prison-2020-12">walked out of after spending 12 years of a life imprisonment sentence at the largest maximum-security prison in the country for a non-violent crime</a>. "It just feels good being free," Winslow told Insider. He was sentenced to life without parole for marijuana distribution after selling $20 worth to a plain-clothed officer in 2008. Recently homeless, Winslow was standing on the street in Shreveport with a friend when the undercover cop confronted him and asked him for marijuana.He used a friend's bike to obtain the requested marijuana, serving as a runner and returned minutes later with two dime bags for the officer. In exchange for getting marijuana for the officer, he was given $5 to get something to eat. He was later arrested and convicted for what he thought would be the rest of his life."I never thought nothing like that could happen," Winslow said.While <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/legal-marijuana-states-2018-1">marijuana is now legal</a> in some states and has <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/weed-us-marijuana-industry-facts-2019-5-1028177375">become an economic goldmine</a>, those who were incarcerated for marijuana-related crimes have to go through <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/state-measures-legalizing-marijuana-drug-convicts-face-challenges-experts-say-2020-11">rigorous processes to get their cases resentenced or dismissed. </a>In Louisiana, Black people are <a href="https://graphics.aclu.org/marijuana-arrest-report/LA">3.4 times more likely</a> to get apprehended for having marijuana compared to their white counterparts, according to the American Civil Liberties Union analysis using data from 2010 to 2018. "The penitentiary full of people like that. You can tell they were targeted," Winslow said. Winslow was able to leave Lousiana State Penitentiary in Angola when he was resentenced last week to 12 years with time served last week with the aid of Jee Park, Winslow's attorney and executive director at <a href="https://ip-no.org/">Innocence Project New Orleans (IPNO)</a> - an organization that helps and represents people serving life sentences in Louisiana and south Mississippi for free. Park told Insider Winslow received a harsh sentence because of the state's habitual offender law, where an individual <a href="https://www.nola.com/article_5a580ecd-23a2-508e-b978-2b0bcbf543d3.html">could be given an excessive sentence for having multiple past convictions even for a minor offense.</a> In Winslow's case, he had 3 prior convictions, which all were non-violent. The first offense was a burglary when he was 17, then a car burglary 10 years later, and possession of cocaine in 2004."Those are the three convictions they used to treat Fate as a fourth-time habitual offender for the marijuana conviction. And because of his prior felony convictions, he faced a mandatory sentence of life in <keyword id="6362397" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="prison">prison</keyword>," Park said. <div type="image" title="Fate winslow 1" height="843" width="1124" msid="79971301" hostid="261"></div>Park was able to file<a href="https://definitions.uslegal.com/p/post-conviction-relief/"> a Post-Conviction Relief</a> application and present it to the district attorney's office stating that Winslow received ineffective assistance of counsel during his initial trial. As a result of Park's fight, Winslow was then granted a resentence which was time served. IPNO has helped exonerate 36 men and women who served 873 in prison combined since the organization's genesis in 2001, Park said. This year, the organization expanded its efforts by launching the Unjust Punishment Project that evaluates cases of prisoners who were given excessive sentences for non-violent drug crimes. So far, the organization has been able to free three men, including Winslow, under this new program. "When I met to meet Fate at Angola he kind of captured our hearts. He's like the most lovely, gentle, hopeful man you would ever meet," Park said. " So, getting to know him and getting to know his case, we knew we had to do something for him. We started working on his case in earnest in early 2019 and it took almost two years for us to get him released."Winslow emphasized that he didn't "have a chance" without the assistance of Park and the IPNO. <div type="image" title="fate and jee" height="2274" width="3024" msid="79971302" hostid="261"></div>Winslow plans to get a job in landscaping and a place to stay to start to rebuild his life. Since his release, Winslow said he is thankful for the tremendous support he has received from his community. Block Education Officers and District Education Officers will inform the schools about the governments decision, Dash said. Chapters that will help students succeed in national-level tests have been retained, he said. According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 3,85,76,510 samples have been tested up to August 26 with 9,24,998 samples being tested on Wednesday. Of the 1,023 fresh deaths, 295 are from Maharashtra, 133 from Karnataka, 118 from Tamil Nadu, 90 from Uttar Pradesh, 81 from Andhra Pradesh, 55 from West Bengal, 41 from Punjab, 19 from Jammu and Kashmir, 17 each from Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Gujarat, 15 from Jharkhand, 14 from Assam, 13 each from Odisha and Kerala, 12 from Rajasthan and 11 each from Bihar and Haryana. Ten fatalities have been reported from Chhattisgarh, eight each from Goa, Puducherry and Telangana, six from Uttarakhand, four from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, two each from Tripura and Himachal Pradesh while Chandigarh, Ladakh and Manipur have registered one fatality each. Of the total 60,472 deaths, Maharashtra has reported the maximum at 23,089 followed by 6,839 in Tamil Nadu, 5,091 in Karnataka, 4,347 in Delhi, 3,541 in Andhra Pradesh, 3,149 in Uttar Pradesh, 2,964 in West Bengal, 2,945 in Gujarat,and 1,282 in Madhya Pradesh. So far, 1,219 people have died of COVID-19 in Punjab, 992 in Rajasthan, 788 in Telangana, 657 in Jammu and Kashmir, 634 in Haryana, 530 in Bihar, 441 in Odisha, 362 in Jharkhand, 274 in Assam, 257 in Kerala and 219 in Uttarakhand. Chhattisgarh has registered 231 deaths, Puducherry 180, Goa 165, Tripura 85, Chandigarh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands 41 each, Himachal Pradesh 32, Ladakh and Manipur 25 each, Nagaland nine, Meghalaya eight, Arunachal Pradesh five, Sikkim three and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu two. The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities. "Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research," the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation. After Indian Army, the <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/education/upsc-postpones-civil-services-interview-due-to-coronavirus-outbreak/story-CqqTKoBdM0Oc5Vss90UCgK.html">Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)</a> has postponed the personality test for civil services examination 2019 — which was earlier scheduled between March 23 and April 3, 2020. However, the new dates haven’t been informed yet. The main exam result was declared on January 14, following which the interview dates were announced. The interview stage, which comprises 275 marks, is the final selection stage of selecting civil servants. The development comes after the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) directed all the educational institutions and regulatory bodies — including the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board exams, university exams and entrances — to be rescheduled after March 31. “While maintenance of academic calendar and exam schedule is important, equally important is the safety and security of the candidates who are appearing in various examinations, as also that of their teachers and parents,” the official announcement <a href="https://twitter.com/ANI/status/1240312126998110208?s=20">said</a>. Recently, the Indian Army also deferred all the interviews and selection of officers in the armed forces, amid the Coronavirus pandemic. “These interviews can’t be conducted in the current circumstances. The candidates will be notified when the interviews will be held. Earlier, the exam was scheduled between April 5 and April 11, 2020. “Certain competitive examinations like JEE Mains require examinees to travel to other centers and in some cases even to other cities, to appear in the said examination. Therefore, JEE Mains should be rescheduled and a new date will be announced on March 31, after re-assessment of the situation,” the ministry added.
