North Korea launches ballistic missile towards East Sea, says South Korean military

North Korea fires two short-range projectiles into its eastern waters

<ul class="summary-list"><li>North Korea has tested an underwater nuclear attack drone, similar to Russia's Poseidon torpedo.</li><li>Pyongyang claims the weapon could cause "radioactive tsunamis," but it has been met with skepticism.</li></ul><p>North Korea has released new imagery of testing of what it claims is an underwater nuclear attack drone that can be deployed to devastating effect, but officials and expert observers believe Pyongyang's claims to be "exaggerated."</p><p>Pyongyang <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/north-korea-claims-underwater-drone-unleash-super-scale-radioactive-tsunami-2023-3">first tested</a> the weapon last week after over a decade of development, sending it cruising off the country's eastern coast at a depth of up to nearly 500 feet for around 60 hours. State media said that a test warhead detonated underwater and hailed the mission as a success because it "fully confirmed" the weapon's capabilities. </p><p>"The mission of the underwater nuclear strategic weapon is to stealthily infiltrate into operational waters and make a super-scale radioactive tsunami through underwater explosion to destroy naval striker groups and major operational ports of the enemy," state-run media outlet KCNA said.</p><p>"This nuclear underwater attack drone can be deployed at any coast and port or towed by a surface ship for operation," state media boasted.</p><div type="image" title="A screen grab shows shows an underwater strategic weapons system test at an undisclosed location in this undated combination still image used in a video." height="1440" width="2560" msid="99070633" hostid="261"></div><p>Another round of testing for the drone — named "Haeil-1" — was conducted over the weekend, and that time, the North Korean device traveled over 370 miles for more than 41 hours, state media <a href="https://kcnawatch.org/newstream/1679988838-679508457/underwater-strategic-weapon-system-test-held/?utm_source=Daily%20on%20Defense%20(03282023)_03/28/2023&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=WEX_Daily%20on%20Defense&amp;rid=25220295&amp;env=3c04aa47499639f882777c7572765d93c4ff544763642577c070df1626ff45f7">reported</a>, adding that the test warhead was "correctly set off."  </p><p>The recent testing marks the first time that North Korea has publicly revealed this type of potential weapon, which seems to resemble a similar device in development by another isolated government — Russia.</p><p>For years, Moscow has been working on a intercontinental autonomous nuclear <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/state-media-russia-built-first-batch-poseidon-torpedoes-super-weapon-2023-1">torpedo</a>, sometimes referred to as a drone, called the Poseidon. That weapon has been described as a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-may-be-preparing-to-test-doomsday-poseidon-torpedo-cnn-2022-11">"doomsday" device</a> because it has been speculated that the payload could potentially cause a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-real-purpose-of-russias-poseidon-nuclear-doomsday-device-2019-2">radioactive tsunami</a>, as Pyongyang claims its weapon can do.</p><p>But like Poseidon, rumors of the Haeil drone's capabilities have potentially been exaggerated, and there's no guarantee that it will even work. North Korea's claims about the weapon have already been met with by skepticism by experts and officials. </p><p>South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) expressed its doubts about the weapon and said its military believes that it is "highly likely" Pyongyang's claims "are exaggerated and manipulated," according to Seoul-based <a href="https://www.nknews.org/2023/03/north-korea-exaggerated-about-new-undersea-nuclear-drone-seoul-says/">NK News</a>.</p><p>"There have been signs that North Korea has been developing unmanned submarines, but we assess that they are still at an elementary level," South Korea's JCS added.</p><p>Ankit Panda, a senior fellow in the nuclear policy program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, also questioned the weapon's future. <ul class="summary-list"><li>A lawsuit filed in New York City accused <keyword id="18380" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Bob-Dylan">Bob Dylan</keyword> of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl in 1965.</li><li>It alleged the musician leveraged his fame to earn the girl's trust and gave her drugs and alcohol.</li><li>A spokesperson for Dylan <a href="https://pagesix.com/2021/08/16/bob-dylan-sued-for-allegedly-sexually-abusing-12-year-old-in-1965/">told Page Six</a> that the suit's claims were untrue.</li></ul><p>The music legend Bob Dylan has been accused of grooming and sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl at his Chelsea Hotel apartment in 1965, according to a new lawsuit filed in Manhattan court.</p><p>The lawsuit, which was filed Friday and reviewed by Insider, accused the famed singer-songwriter of giving the girl, identified in court documents as "J.C.," drugs and alcohol before sexually abusing her "multiple times."</p><p>Neither a lawyer representing Dylan, whose real name is Robert Allen Zimmerman, nor his representatives immediately responded to Insider's request for comment.</p><p>A spokesperson for Dylan <a href="https://pagesix.com/2021/08/16/bob-dylan-sued-for-allegedly-sexually-abusing-12-year-old-in-1965/">told Page Six</a> that the suit's claims were untrue and that the musician would be "vigorously defended."</p><p>J.C., who now lives in Greenwich, Connecticut, accused Dylan of assault, battery, false imprisonment, and infliction of emotional distress in the suit, for which she seeks a jury trial and unspecified damages.</p><p>The lawsuit alleged that Dylan exploited his status as a musician to gain J.C.'s trust and then manipulated and sexually abused her over six weeks in the spring of 1965.</p><p>J.C. said she sustained physical and psychological injuries as a result of the abuse, including depression, anxiety, anger, physical pain, and mental anguish, according to the lawsuit. The filing said J.C.'s continued emotional distress had kept her from "attending regular activities."</p><p>The New York Child Victims Act of 2019 allowed survivors of sexual abuse a <a href="https://www.insider.com/ny-lawyers-rush-child-sexual-abuse-lawsuits-ahead-of-deadline-2021-8" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">brief window to file lawsuits</a> against their abusers, no matter how long ago the abuse took place. J.C.'s lawsuit was filed on August 13, one day before the deadline to file such suits.</p><p>Dylan's iconic songwriting has earned him numerous awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, 10 Grammys, a Golden Globe, and an Oscar.</p><p>He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2016 was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature.</p>

Bob Dylan accused of grooming and sexually abusing 12-year-old girl in 1965 in newly filed lawsuit

<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">The US is moving towards ending its 50-year political and economic embargo on Cuba, a breakthrough in American relations with the island nation. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">But at the height of the Cold War, the US was panicked over the prospect of a communist regime less than 100-miles from its territory. And i</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">n 1962, three years after Fidel Castro and his allies had successfully carried out their Communist revolution in Cuba, the US Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) proposed a number of measures aimed at legitimizing a US invasion of the island.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">The majority of these measures involved false-flag attacks that would give the US the leeway needed to carry out regime change in Havana.&#xa0;</span></p>
<p>In an unclassified memo titled "<a href="http://www2.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/news/20010430/northwoods.pdf">Justification for US Military Intervention in Cuba</a>," the JCS floats a number of actions that the US could execute which would "develop an <keyword id="6356001" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="international">international</keyword> image of a Cuban threat to peace in the Western Hemisphere." </p>
<p>The plans were developed under the name "Operation Mongoose," with an emphasis on the namesake animal's speed: The JCS wanted to carry out these operations, thereby legitimizing attacks on Cuba, before Havana and the Soviet Union established bilateral mutual support agreements. The report was released in March, seven months before the start of the Cuban Missile Crisis.&#xa0;</p>
<p>The JCS suggested eight ideas for legitimizing an invasion of the island. Many of them are far-fetched, and the more outlandish ones weren't operationalized. But they offer a glimpse into the US's sometimes-paranoid approach to the very real strategic challenges that the island's communist takeover presented.</p>
<h3>A simulated attack on Guantanamo Bay&#xa0;</h3>
<p>In order to justify an invasion, the JCS proposed simulating "a series of well-coordinated incidents ... in and around Guantanamo" that would "give genuine appearance of being done by hostile Cuban forces."</p>
<p>These incidents would include burning aircraft on base, blowing up ammunition inside the base and starting fires, staging riots near the base's main gate with the help of friendly Cubans, sabotaging a ship in the harbor, and capturing a group of friendly Cubans disguised as saboteurs inside the base.</p>
<h3>A 'Remember the Maine'-type incident</h3>
<p>In addition to simulated sabotage at Guantanamo Bay, the JCS floated an idea of destroying a US vessel entirely and blaming the attack on the Cubans. It's an echo of the <a href="http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq71-1.htm">destruction of the USS Maine in 1898</a>, which was used as a justification for the Spanish-American War (It's now believed that the explosion that destroyed the ship <a href="http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/the-maine-explodes">was in fact accidental</a>.)</p>
<p>One of the ideas proposed was to "blow up a US ship in Guantanamo Bay." A second idea was to destroy an unmanned US vessel somewhere in Cuban waters close to Havana or Santiago.&#xa0;</p>
<p class="p1">"The presence of Cuban planes or ships merely investigating the intent of the vessel could be fairly compelling evidence that the ship was taken under attack." After the explosion, the US could then stage a mock rescue attempt. Afterwards, mock "casualty lists in US newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation."</p>
<h3 class="p1">A coordinated terror campaign</h3>
<p class="p1">"We could develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington. The terror campaign could be pointed at Cuban refugees seeking haven in the United States. We could sink a boatload of Cubans enroute to Florida (real or simulated) … Exploding a few plastic bombs in carefully chosen spots … would be helpful in projecting the idea of an irresponsible government."</p>
<h3 class="p1">A simulated Cuban attack on a neighboring country</h3>
<p>The JCS proposed carrying out an attack on a neighboring Caribbean nation while disguised as Cuban forces. This attack would show that Cuba was a reckless spear's-tip for Communist expansionism in the region.&#xa0;</p>
<h3>Harassment of civilian air lines</h3>
<p>US pilots could be trained to fly in a Cuban MiG aircraft. The pilot would then carry out simulated harassment of civilian airliners.&#xa0;</p>
<p>"An F-86 properly painted would convince air passengers that they saw a Cuban MIG," the JCS proposed, "especially if the pilot of the transport were to announce such fact."&#xa0;</p>
<h3>Simulated hijacking attempts</h3>
<p>"Hijacking attempts against civil air and surface craft should appear to continue as harassing measures condoned by the government of Cuba. Concurrently, genuine deflections of Cuban civil and military air and surface craft should be encouraged."&#xa0;</p>
<h3>A simulated downing of a chartered jet</h3>
<p>"It is possible to create an incident which will demonstrate convincingly that a Cuban aircraft jas attacked and shot down a chartered civil airliner enroute from the United States to Jamaica, Guatemala, Panama or Venezuela," the JCS wrote.&#xa0;</p>
<p>An actual civilian airliner, flying from a proprietary CIA company in the Miami area, would be loaded with selected passengers with aliases. This plane would then be swapped out at Eglin Air Force Base and would be replaced with an identical unmanned aircraft. The drone, once over Cuba, would release a May Day signal before being detonated through a radio signal.&#xa0;</p>
<h3>A simulated attack by Cuban forces over international waters</h3>
<p>"It is possible to create an incident which will make it appear that Communist Cuban MiGs have destroyed a USAF [air force] aircraft over international waters in an unprovoked attack," wrote the JCS.&#xa0;</p>
<p>According to this plan, four or five F-101s would fly from Florida to the vicinity of Cuba, before changing direction back to the US. Of the five pilots, one would have been briefed to fly at the tail end of the formation far from the other aircraft.&#xa0;</p>
<p>This pilot would then signal that he had been attacked by Cuban MiGs and was going down, after which he would make no other calls. The pilot would then fly at low altitude directly to Eglin Air Force Base.&#xa0;</p>
<p>Meanwhile, a submarine would disburse F-101 parts approximately "15 to 20 miles off the Cuban coast and depart. The pilots returning to Homestead would have a true story as far as they knew."&#xa0;</p>

Garrett had brought Rudolph down on the play, and after a physical exchange, ripped off his helmet and swung it at the Pittsburgh quarterback.</p><p>Garrett was quickly called out for his action, with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/video-baker-mayfield-myles-garrett-hits-rudolph-with-helmet-2019-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">quarterback Baker Mayfield calling his teammate's participation</a> in the brawl "inexcusable."</p><p>But while Garrett was called out, players, coaches, and commentators have all praised Steelers lineman David DeCastro, who during the mayhem, did his best to diffuse the situation by bringing Garrett to the ground and keeping him away from angry Steelers teammates.</p><p>In the video above, DeCastro can be seen attempting to get between Garrett and Rudolph before the helmet is swung. After Garrett goes for the knockout, DeCastro wrapped him up and took him to the ground. While center Maurkice Pouncey can be seen throwing punches at Garrett, DeCastro was pretty clearly trying to quell the situation from getting any further out of hand.</p><p>On Twitter, DeCastro was praised for his role of peacemaker during the chaotic moment.</p><p>Even Garrett gave credit to DeCastro for helping to deescalate the situation on the field.</p><p>Asked about how his Browns teammates responded to the fight, Garrett thanked them for having his back before pivoting to DeCastro.</p><p>"Even DeCastro on the other team, he was trying to keep everybody off me," Garrett said, <a href="https://twitter.com/Jake_Trotter/status/1195234877442052097" target="_blank" rel="noopener">per ESPN's Jake Trotter</a>. "He understood the gravity of the situation, and he didn't want any more blows to be thrown, and he knew it was just two guys getting chippy. He and I made a mistake, but I appreciate him coming up to me and Larry coming up to me and having my back in the whole situation."</p><p>On Friday, <a href="https://twitter.com/NFLfootballinfo/status/1195383502113509378" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the NFL announced</a> that Garrett was suspended without pay indefinitely - a punishment that will last at least through the 2019 season and postseason. Pouncey also received a three-game suspension for his role in the fight. Steelers lineman David DeCastro praised as peacemaker for his role in 'Thursday Night Football' brawl, including from Myles Garrett

<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image"><p class="source"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/viernest/3531901577/in/photostream/">Flickr via viernest</a></p></div><p></p></div>IN LATE 2010 police in Childersburg, Alabama ticketed both Kristy and Timothy Fugatt for driving with expired licence tags. They were fined $148 each, plus another $198 for Mrs Fugatt, whose licence had expired. They could not afford to pay, so they were placed on probation under the supervision of Judicial Correction Services (JCS), a private company that manages probationers for roughly 200 misdemeanour courts in the south-eastern United States.</span></p>
<p>JCS also charged each of them a $45 monthly service fee. When they fell behind on their payments, they were charged more fees and threatened with jail. In February 2012 they claim that a Childersburg policeman arrested them at their home, threatened them with a Taser, told them their children would be placed in state care and took them to <keyword id="6362397" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Prison">prison</keyword>. They were released only after relatives brought $900 to the Childersburg jail. (Robert McMichael, the head of JCS, refused to comment on any of these allegations.)</p>
<p>Monthly charges to private-probation companies are just one of a growing array of fees levied by America's criminal-justice system. Such fees are distinct from fines, imposed to punish or deter. Their aim is to make wrongdoers cover some of the costs of the system that punishes them.</p>
<h3>Another law for the poor</h3>
<p>For example, a 2010 report by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) found that fees and fines covered two-thirds of the operating budget of the Orleans Parish criminal court in Louisiana. That is the appeal of private-probation firms: small fines often go unpaid because local governments cannot afford to chase every speeding ticket. JCS claims that without officers overseeing probation, only 30% of offenders complete it; with JCS's services that rises to 70%. Even more appealing to cash-strapped municipalities, private-probation companies offer their services at no cost to the taxpayer. Instead, boasts JCS, "Supervision is completely offender-funded."</p>
<p>Defendants who cannot pay fees upfront are put on payment plans, which often come with start-up and monthly administrative fees. Many of these fees are small, but for poor Americans they impose an additional burden that can last long after a judicially-imposed sentence has ended. A 2010 study by the Brennan Centre for Justice, a law and public-policy institute, found that at least 13 of the 15 states with the largest prison populations allowed probation to be extended beyond the judicially-imposed terms for non-payment of criminal-justice <keyword id="44647" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="debt">debt</keyword>. A judgment handed down in July 2012 against the town of Harpersville, Alabama, which hired JCS to manage its misdemeanour probation, found that fees could turn a $200 fine into a 41-month-long, $2,100 ordeal.</p>
<p>That same judgment accused Harpersville of operating a "debtors' prison", though the judge noted that "a more accurate description of the Harpersville Municipal Court practices might be that of a judicially sanctioned extortion racket." Harpersville, like many other places, jailed people who failed to pay probation fines and fees--although the cost of imprisonment often exceeds the costs for which they are liable. In 2010 North Carolina's Mecklenburg County spent over $40,000 jailing people for non-payment of criminal-justice debt, and collected just $33,476 from them. Courts in Orleans Parish routinely offered defendants the choice of 30 days in prison or $100 in fines, even though the city had to pay the parish sheriff $22 per day for each inmate it sentenced, and the federal appellate court for the circuit that includes Louisiana found such "fine or time" sentences illegal.</p>
<p>That Brennan Centre study found that nine of the 15 American states with the largest prison populations permit "collection fees" on criminal-justice debt, which are often payable to private firms. Only one of the 15 (Texas) exempts penniless defendants from additional collection fees.</p>
<p>All this occurs routinely, though the Supreme Court ruled in 1983 that before a court jails someone for failing to pay a fine or fee, it must first ensure that his failure to pay was wilful--that he could have paid but chose not to. Jailing someone because he cannot pay violates the 14th Amendment's Equal Protection Clause. Similarly, 13 of the 15 states studied by the Brennan Centre charge defendants public-defender fees ($50 for a misdemeanour and $100 for a felony defence in Florida; in Virginia, as much as $1,235 for some felonies), even though the Supreme Court ruled in 1963 that the Sixth Amendment required courts to provide lawyers at no charge for indigent defendants.</p>
<p>In some states people with outstanding criminal-justice debt cannot vote. In others they lose public benefits such as food stamps and housing assistance. Some states suspend driving licences, making it harder for people to get to the jobs they need to do to pay off their debt. And beyond that, as Eric Balaban of the ACLU notes, such fees create "a two-tiered system of justice, in which the wealthy can satisfy the system quickly, while a poor person charged with the same offence can face years of penalties."</p>

This drew a sharp rebuke from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who said such a test violated current UN agreements. </p><p>North Korea has repeatedly tested nuclear warheads in the past before agreeing to a halt. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Tommaso Boddi/Getty Images for IMDb</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul><li><strong>Los Angeles police are investigating allegations of elder abuse suffered by Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee.</strong></li><li><strong>A restraining order has been filed against Lee's caretaker and business partner, Keya Morgan, who was arrested on Monday on suspicion of filing a false police report. </strong></li><li><strong>It's the latest development in a strange saga that reached new heights in a Hollywood Reporter story that alleged years of elder abuse against Lee by his close advisers.</strong></li></ul><p> </p><p>On Wednesday, a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-protective-order-obtained-for-marvel-magnate-stan-lee-2018-6?r=UK&amp;IR=T" target="_blank" rel="noopener">temporary restraining order</a> was issued against Keya Morgan, a longtime business manager and adviser to Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee. The order revealed that Los Angeles <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-police-investigate-elder-abuse-of-marvel-comics-stan-lee-2018-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">police were investigating claims of elder abuse</a> suffered by the 95-year-old co-creator of Marvel superheroes such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, the X-Men, and Fantastic Four.</p><p>It's the latest development in a saga that reached new heights in a <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/stan-lee-needs-a-hero-elder-abuse-claims-a-battle-aging-marvel-creator-1101229" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hollywood Reporter</a> story published in April. The story uncovered a nasty battle over Lee's estate, and contained allegations of years of elder abuse.</p><p>THR obtained an early February declaration signed by Lee and coordinated by his attorney, Tom Lallas. The document claimed that three men, including Morgan, had tried inserting themselves into Lee's 67-year-old daughter J.C.'s life in order to take advantage of her and Lee - and then gain control of Lee's assets, property, and money.</p><p>Lee's estate is worth over $50 million, according to Wednesday's restraining order.</p><p>Lallas filed the restraining order against Morgan on Lee's behalf. Lallas claimed he was pushed out as Lee's lawyer in February after Lee (or someone else, as THR noted) changed his mind about the declaration. Lallas said Morgan "<span>inserted himself into Mr. Lee's life" after the death of Lee's wife last year. The order claimed Morgan took advantage of Lee's poor hearing, vision, and judgment; moved Lee from his family home; and prevented his family and associates from contacting him.</span></p><p><span>On Monday, Morgan was arrested on suspicion of filing a false police report against "burglars" at Lee's home, who were actually police and a social worker conducting a welfare check on Lee. </span></p><p><span>But there's more to this story, and to understand how it got to this point, it's important to understand other details in THR's story and what surrounded that report. </span></p><h2>Accusations of Lee being taken advantage of</h2><p>According to THR, Morgan and J.C. began "consolidating their power over Lee" after Lee changed his mind about the declaration. Lee's longtime assistant Mike Kelly was limited to pre-approved, supervised visits; his longtime housekeeper was fired; and his emails were monitored by Morgan, who even filmed Lee condemning the declaration when Morgan learned that THR had obtained a copy.</p><p>At 95, Lee is susceptible to being taken advantage of, but he was even more so after the death of his wife of 70 years Joan last July, THR reported. She was also always better with their daughter, J.C., whose outbursts could turn physical at times, according to THR (she denied a particular allegation of slamming Lee's head against a chair).</p><p>Days after THR's report was published, <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/films/2018/04/13/marvels-stan-lee-denies-reports-abused-friends-family/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lee released a video message</a> (filmed and distributed by Morgan) defending Morgan and denying the claims made.</p><p>"<span>You people have been publishing the most hateful, harmful material about me and my friend Keya [Morgan], and some others," Lee said in the video. "It's as if you suddenly have a personal vendetta against me and the people I work with."</span></p><p><span>To close the video, Lee said, "If you don't stop these articles and publish retractions, I am going to sue your a-- off."</span></p><h2><span>Other complications</span></h2><p><span>Outside of the THR report, Lee's life has been the subject of other headlines as well. </span></p><p><span>Prior to that article, <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/picked-apart-by-vultures-the-last-days-of-stan-lee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Beast</a> reported that Lee's finances were being drained and a $300,000 check had been written from Lee's business account without his authorization to a charity organization he formed with Jerry Olivarez. Olivarez contested that Lee gave him the check as a 'thank you' for helping him in negotiations with POW! Entertainment.</span></p><p><span>Lee recently <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/robsalkowitz/2018/05/16/stan-lee-sues-pow-entertainment-for-1-billion-in-latest-turn-of-bizarre-story/#4ed9a9bd502f" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filed a $1 billion lawsuit against POW!</a>, claiming the company that he founded had forged his signature in order to gain exclusive rights to his name and image.</span></p><p><span>Last month, <a href="https://twitter.com/TheRealStanLee/status/1000855369952866309" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lee's Twitter account posted a written claim</a> that all of his social <keyword id="6354777" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Media">media</keyword> other than Twitter had been hacked and was not actually him. </span></p><p><span>On Sunday, a day before Morgan was arrested, Lee's account posted <a href="https://twitter.com/TheRealStanLee/status/1005947296435982336" target="_blank" rel="noopener">another video on Twitter</a> asserting that Morgan was his only partner, and the only person who represented him. </span></p><p><span>"Anybody else who claims to be my rep is just making that story up," the tweet from Lee's account said.</span></p><p><span>It all adds to a saga that was already strange to begin with. James Mattis pinned a single star onto each collar of his assistant division commander, Col. John F. Kelly. He was now a brigadier general, and the first to be promoted on the battlefield since the Korean War.</p><p>Not far from there, another colonel in the unit named Joe Dunford was leading his regimental combat team.</p><p>By the end of the campaign, they had fought together in places like Nasiriyah, Al Kut, and eventually Baghdad. The division they were in - along with the US Army and UK armored elements - carried out one of the most aggressive, high-speed attacks in history, while 1st Marine Division's ground march was the longest in the <a href="http://www.1stmardiv.marines.mil/About/History/" target="_blank">history of the Marine Corps</a>, for which it earned the Presidential Unit Citation.</p><p>Those three officers all went on to become four-star generals: Mattis retired in 2013 as the commander of Central Command, while Kelly retired as commander of US Southern Command in 2016. Dunford went on to become Commandant of the Marine Corps, and eventually Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, where he remains to this day.</p><p>All three remain good friends. And if President-elect Donald Trump's picks for his Cabinet are all confirmed, they'll once again be serving together. Only this time, it'll be in the White House.</p><h2>Secretary of <keyword id="6354810" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Defense">Defense</keyword> James Mattis</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="http://www.apimages.com/metadata/Index/Britain-U-S-Egypt/9245149ac0644d7baa461dcca499583f/21/0">AP Photo/Matt Dunham</a></span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Mattis has often been praised by senior leaders at the Pentagon as both a strategic thinker with an encyclopedic knowledge of history, and an incredible leader. His legendary status among Marines mainly originated from his command of 1st Marine Division, where he popularized its motto, "No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy."</p><p>The 66-year-old retired general is the only pick that has a legal roadblock in front of him: A 1947 law (updated in 2008) that requires military officers to be out of uniform for at least seven years before leading the Pentagon. Mattis <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/democrats-mattis-defense-secretary-waiver-2016-12">would need a waiver</a>, which Republicans have already signaled support for.</p><p>When <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-mattis-idUSKBN13U08E" target="_blank">recently</a> asked if he was concerned by the pick of Mattis, Gen. Joe Dunford just said: "No."</p><p>If confirmed, Mattis would replace Defense Secretary Ash Carter, who supports and <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4000498/Carter-confident-successor-ready-command.html" target="_blank">calls him </a>"extremely capable."</p><h2>Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>DoD</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>John Kelly just accepted Trump's request for him to serve as the head of the Department of Homeland Security, <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/news/donald-trump-gen-john-kelly-dhs-secretary-department-homeland-security/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab7e&amp;linkId=32053887" target="_blank">according</a> to CBS News.</p><p>Like Mattis, he is a blunt, to-the-point speaker who opposes the closure of the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. "<span>What tends to bother them is the fact that we're holding them there indefinitely without trial … it's not the point that it's Gitmo," he <a href="http://www.defenseone.com/business/2016/01/heres-what-americas-longest-serving-general-most-fears/125024/?oref=DefenseOneTCO" target="_blank">told</a> Defense One earlier this year. "If we send them, say, to a facility in the U.S., we're still holding them without trial."</span></p><p><span>Kelly is also the most senior-ranking military official to lose a child in combat since 9/11. He lost his son, Lt. Robert Kelly, <a href="http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/rmkelly.htm">to an improvised explosive</a> device in Afghanistan in 2010.</span></p><p>If confirmed, he would replace Jeh Johnson.</p><h2>Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Joe Dunford</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Joseph_F._Dunford,_Jr._in_2012#/media/File:USMC-120528-M-JL916-805.jpg">US Marine Corps</a></span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Joe Dunford is the last of the three generals who is still in uniform. He served briefly as Commandant of the Marine Corps before President Obama nominated him as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs in May 2015. He earned the nickname "Fighting Joe" during his time with 1st Marine Division.</p><p>Dunford has been in the Marine Corps for 39 years, less time than Mattis' 44 years and Kelly's 45. Right now, his chairmanship term is scheduled to run through 2017. Though the Joint Chiefs are not part of the president's Cabinet, they are appointed by, <a href="http://blog.constitutioncenter.org/2011/06/the-joint-chiefs-of-staff-an-explainer/" target="_blank">and serve as the top</a> military advisors to, the president.</p><p>Trump is likely to replace many of Obama's appointees, but Dunford may not be one of them.</p><p>Typically, JCS chairmen serve two terms, and having comrades like Mattis and Kelly in his corner will make it <a href="http://www.stripes.com/news/mattis-as-defense-secretary-could-prolong-dunford-s-stay-as-joint-chiefs-chairman-1.442788" target="_blank">much harder</a> for Trump to replace him.</p><p>Trump has floated other generals and admirals for his Cabinet, to include Gen. David Petraeus for secretary of state and Adm. Michael Rogers for director of national intelligence. Michael Flynn, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/michael-flynn-tweets-hillary-clinton-2016-11">his controversial choice</a> for national security advisor, is a retired lieutenant general who headed the Defense Intelligence Agency.</p><p>These choices don't come without pushback.
