<ul class="summary-list"><li>"Scream 6" writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick told Insider why Chad survived the sequel.</li><li>Mason Gooding's character was stabbed several times in the movie's climax.</li></ul><p>When <a href="https://www.insider.com/scream-6-easter-eggs-references-callbacks-you-missed-2023-3">"Scream 6"</a> arrived in theaters, horror fans were thrilled to see a new <a href="https://www.insider.com/scream-6-ghostface-killer-playing-different-character-2023-3">Ghostface</a> hunt the latest batch of Woodsboro survivors through New York in the 2023 sequel, as they come looking for revenge for the death of Richie Kirsch (Jack Quaid) in <a href="https://www.insider.com/scream-movies-cool-facts-you-may-not-know-2021-10">2022's "Scream."</a></p><p>And although there are some incredibly gruesome kills scattered throughout the movie, Sam and Tara make it out alive, along with Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown).</p><p>However, Chad finds himself turned into a human pincushion in the film's climax when he is attacked by not one but two Ghostface killers, leading a few fans to wonder whether he was originally meant to die.</p><p>Insider recently spoke to "Scream 6" writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, who explained that they debated killing off the charismatic teen. </p><p>Vanderbilt said: "We test every character dying in our heads at a certain point in time and go back and forth on certain ones. "And Tyler Gillett, one of the directors, talks about that they're meant to be secret feel-good movies at the end of the day. And we kind of felt like, you want to get off the roller coaster and you want to be smiling, not bummed and him not surviving at the end of the movie felt like a real... Chad has cheated death once again. He was supposed to die in 5 and he didn't. And he made it through this. God bless him."</p><p>Vanderbilt's cowriter Busick said that the scene was originally more violent, and Chad was stabbed several more times, but it didn't feel believable.</p><p>"And I believe, just a little bit of trivia, that some of the stabs were cut in post because there were several more stabs," he said. But it was just too… It's already stretching credibility a bit. But all the stabs… you would have really called foul, I think."</p><p>"We digitally removed some of the stabbing," added Vanderbilt. "But the guys always overshoot the violence to be able to, to pull it back or dial it up and add it, which I think is super smart."</p><p><em>"Scream 6" is available to download and keep on video-on-demand now, and is available on DVD and Blu-ray from July 10.</em></p>

'Scream 6' writers explain why Mason Gooding's Chad survived seemingly fatal Ghostface attack: 'Scream' franchise is meant to be 'secret feel-good movies'

"Yellowjackets" also follows the team to the present day, 25 years after the crash.</p><p>In this week's episode, the starving girls resort to cannibalism in a highly anticipated scene. Jackie (Ella Purnell), one of the teammates, froze to death in the first season, but her best friend Shauna (Nélisse) can't part ways with her body.</p><p>During the episode, the team must decide what to do with the corpse. When Taissa (Jasmine Savoy Brown) suggests burning the body, the smell entices the starving teens to eat their deceased friend and teammate. </p><p>Nélisse and Eaton told BuzzFeed News that the fake human meat was made out of rice paper and jackfruit. </p><p>"We were pulling out the rice paper, and it was all soggy," Nélisse said to BuzzFeed. "We were like, 'This is the grossest thing ever.' It just tasted disgusting." </p><p>Nélisse told the outlet that the rice paper and jackfruit concoction "wasn't bad" when the cast tried it before filming. Though Eaton was close, the actor said that her costar Samantha Hanratty did actually throw up while filming. </p><p>"They should have sprayed some hamburger smell or something," Eaton jokingly said.  </p><p>Eaton also told BuzzFeed that she doesn't think her character, Lottie, is to blame for the cannibalism, though Lottie has taken a leadership role in the group. </p><p>"Once you kind of have this idea in your head for something that's kind of forbidden and there's no societal rules and you have the opportunity to do it, and you're at this point of starving, I think you're gonna end up reverting to some animalistic things," Eaton said to the outlet. </p><p>Nélisse added that her character Shauna is also exploring animalistic tendencies this season. "I definitely think she goes down a really dark path. "No one comes to help them, everyone's kind of like, 'I'm not getting into that.'"</p>

But in June 2022, Campbell announced that she had turned down a role in the next sequel, "Scream 6," because, <a href="https://deadline.com/2022/06/neve-campbell-scream-not-returning-1235038974/">according to a statement sent to Deadline</a>, the offer made by Paramount/Spyglass Media <a href="https://www.insider.com/neve-campbell-scream-6-not-returning-pay-sixth-movie-2022-6">"did not equate to the value" she brought to the franchise.</a></p><p><a href="https://people.com/movies/neve-campbell-sad-to-leave-scream-6-but-couldnt-bear-feeling-undervalued-exclusive/">During a recent interview with People</a>, Campbell said she was "sad" to be leaving the franchise, but elaborated on her reasons for leaving.</p><p>"I did not feel that what I was being offered equated to the value that I bring to this franchise, and have brought to this franchise, for 25 years," the "Scream" actress said. <ul class="summary-list"><li>New details about the sixth "<keyword id="12307321" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="scream" source="Orion">Scream</keyword>" <keyword id="11897475" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="movie" source="Orion">movie</keyword> have emerged in the months since it was greenlit.</li><li>Franchise stars Courteney Cox, Hayden Panettiere, and Jenna Ortega will return for the new film.</li></ul><p>In the months since the <a href="https://deadline.com/2022/02/scream-sequel-moving-forward-at-paramount-and-spyglass-1234925874/">sixth "Scream" movie was announced</a>, key details have emerged about the upcoming installment in the popular <keyword id="11949119" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="horror" source="Orion">horror</keyword> franchise. </p><p>A few familiar faces will be returning for the new film, which is reportedly being filmed outside of the US. </p><p>While it's not set to be released until March 2023, we've rounded up everything to know about the forthcoming "Scream 6" film. </p><h2>'Scream 6' was greenlit shortly after the premiere of the fifth movie in the franchise</h2><p>The first film in the series not directed by Wes Craven (who died in 2015), "Scream" (also referred to as "Scream 5") featured <a href="https://www.insider.com/david-arquette-what-its-like-stay-original-scream-house-photos-2021-10">David Arquette</a>, Courteney Cox, and Neve Campbell (reprising their roles as Dewey Riley, Gale Weathers, and Sidney Prescott, respectively) from the <a href="https://www.insider.com/scream-movies-cool-facts-you-may-not-know-2021-10">four previous films</a>.</p><p>Arquette was ultimately killed off at the end of "Scream," but Cox and Campbell's characters survived. </p><p>"Scream" was a box office success, and Paramount and Spyglass approved a sequel to the latest film <a href="https://deadline.com/2022/02/scream-sequel-moving-forward-at-paramount-and-spyglass-1234925874/">shortly after the fifth "Scream" premiered in January</a>. </p><h2>Several franchise stars will be returning for 'Scream 6'</h2><p>Cox, as well as Hayden Panettiere (who played horror expert Kirby Reed in "Scream 4"), are <a href="https://screenrant.com/scream-6-movie-returning-characters-actors/">reportedly involved in the new film</a>, as are Melissa Barrera (the main character from 2022's "Scream"), and Jenna Ortega, whose character Tara was stabbed in the fifth movie's opening moments. </p><p>The Meeks-Martin twins — played by Jasmin Savoy-Brown and Mason Gooding — are also <a href="https://screenrant.com/scream-6-movie-returning-characters-actors/">reportedly returning for the upcoming movie</a>. </p><p>As <a href="https://screenrant.com/scream-6-movie-returning-characters-actors/">ScreenRant pointed out</a>, however, Campbell has yet to be confirmed for "Scream 6," which would make Cox the only actor to appear in all of the franchise's films. </p><h2>The new movie is reportedly being filmed outside of the US</h2><p>Cox <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/scream-6-courteney-cox-return-confirmed?amp=1">confirmed her involvement with "Scream 6"</a> earlier this year and also revealed that <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/scream-6-courteney-cox-return-confirmed?amp=1">filming is set to begin in June in Canada</a>.</p><p>While the plot of the new film is being kept tightly under wraps (and it's unclear if the production location change actually denotes a change in the new movie's setting), there's <a href="https://screenrant.com/scream-6-woodsboro-leave-stu-return-setup/">been some speculation as to what the new filming location could mean</a>.  </p><h2>Filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are also returning for the new film, which premieres in March 2023</h2><p>Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett directed the fifth "Scream" movie to critical acclaim, and have signed on to direct "Scream 6" as well. But their younger counterparts — including Sophie Thatcher, who is very much making a case for the resurgence of the shag haircut, and Jasmin Savoy Brown, perfectly capturing her character Taissa's resilience — also hold their own. </p><p>It's fascinating watching a group of teen girls struggle to survive the wilderness, and the foreshadowing at the beginning of the series only increases the dread viewers feel as winter looms and the Yellowjackets' supply of food dwindles. And in the present day, the surviving members' rush to uncover a mysterious blackmailer (who may or may not have murdered one of the people stranded with them) adds even more suspense to the present-day narrative.  </p><div type="image" title="Melanie Lynskey on &quot;Yellowjackets&quot;" height="2133" width="2844" msid="88777404" hostid="261"></div><p>There's also the show's soundtrack to consider.</p><p>The music featured includes '90s gems from Hole, Portishead, Liz Phair, Mazzy Star, and more. Coupled with the typical teenage drama that the Yellowjackets find themselves in even while trying to fend off wolves and avoid starving to death, the show occasionally has moments that would feel more at home in "My So-Called Life" than "Lost." And that unexpected combination of genres and tones completely works here.</p><p>Ultimately, though, "Yellowjackets" defies easy comparisons — it's simply appointment TV at its finest. From the revelation that there might be a way for Nora (Carrie Coon) to see her departed family (the news was delivered to her by none other than the departure-faker and "Perfect Strangers" star Mark Linn-Baker) to that old guy on the tower finally dying, there was a lot to absorb.</p><p>But if you're a fan of the legendary hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, you were given quite a treat.</p><p>When Nora got her cast taken off in the episode, we saw that she has a tattoo of the Wu-Tang "W" symbol on her forearm. We learned when Nora visited Erika (Regina King) that she chose the tattoo to cover previous tattoos of her kids' names.</p><p>Erika then revealed to Nora that one way she's kept her sanity after her daughter Eve (Jasmin Savoy Brown) died was buying a trampoline. We then saw the two on the trampoline in slow-motion while the Wu-Tang song "Protect Ya Neck (The Jump Off)" played.</p><p>It's just the latest masterful music choice from the show. Though many of the ideas come from the show's cocreator Damon Lindelof and the writers, the person who goes out and clears the song rights is the show's music supervisor Liza Richardson.</p><p>When Lindelof first brought up to the idea of the Wu-Tang song to Richardson last February, she wasn't confident. <br /><br />"I said, 'Famously impossible, but let's try,'" Richardson said about getting rights.</p><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/56735772dd0895fa768b45ac-1000/d-65.jpg" alt="Wu-Tang Clan" /><p class="source"><span>REUTERS</span></p><p class="caption">Wu-Tang Clan.</p>Wu-Tang songs are so hard to clear because they use a lot of samples and there are so many writers for each song.<p>Lindelof had his eye on a song from the 1995 album "Liquid Swords," a solo album by Wu-Tang member GZA.</p><p>Richardson looked into all the songs on the "Liquid Swords" album. It took her close to two months, but she was able to clear the rights to the songs "Liquid Swords" and "Living in the World Today." The track "Shadowboxin'" (featuring Method Man) was also in the running, but there were issues with the samples on the song that held it up.</p><p>Richardson was also able to get the rights to "Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing ta F--- Wit" from their debut album, "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)."</p><p>Lindelof eventually decided on "Nuthing ta F--- Wit." Or so Richardson thought.</p><p>"They changed the scene to Erika and Nora bouncing on the trampoline," she said.</p><p>Lindelof now had three new songs he wanted Richardson to go after: "C.R.E.A.M." (from "Enter the Wu-Tang"), "Triumph" ("Wu-Tang Forever"), and "Protect Ya Neck (The Jump Off)" ("The W"). All three cleared and "Protect Ya Neck" was chosen for the scene. The track cost the show $30,000 to use.</p><p>Richardson said the music in this episode - from the Wu-Tang track to the episode opening with the "Perfect Strangers" theme song - is a perfect example of why she loves working on the show.</p><p>"The variety of music we use is so refreshing," she said. "Like the harp piece at the end of the episode, how often do you get that? In most shows it would be covered with score but we used instrumental music. It's unusual and I think it's killer.
