The 21-year-old Jaskaran, who hails from a small village Khalra, Punjab, which is at the cusp of the Indian border, aspires to become an IAS officer. In the episode 17th of the quiz-based reality show, hosted by megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Jaskaran won the hearts of the actor as well as the audience with his display of knowledge. However, after winning Rs one crore, Jaskaran was not able to answer the Rs seven crore question and he decided to quit the game. Big B lauded his decision to quit the game at the high risk point. The question of Rs 7 crore was: According to the Padma Purana, which king had to live as a tiger for a hundred years due to a deer's curse? The options given were- Kshemadhurti, Dharmadatta, Mitadhvaja and Prabhanjana. After reading the question, Jaskaran said: "Sir I have not heard of the them before. Mythologies such as the Mahabharata or Ramayana are on television. I have watched the shows B. R. Chopra's show Mahabharata and Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana. It's very difficult. I quit." The correct answer was 'Prabhanjana'. Speaking about the answer in detail, Big B said: "It's mentioned in the Puranas, that documents social, cultural, religious, and political views. When a boy named <keyword id="133007" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jaskaran-Singh">Jaskaran Singh</keyword> from Delhi secured admission to Indian Institute of Management (IIM-B), Bangalore just two days ago, one person was super proud of his achievement - Mr <keyword id="3321960" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vaidyanathan-Singararaman">Vaidyanathan Singararaman</keyword>. 
 It was a Monday, and we were busy kick starting another new week, but Mr Singararaman wanted the world to stop and take notice of this boy. He took to his <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword> page to narrate what a remarkable day it was. One of hope, one of love and one to take inspiration from.. 
 He told us - Jaskaran, a student with Spinal Cord Injury at the cervical level, had become the first of his kind to make way into the Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management at one of the <keyword id="46923" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIMs">IIMs</keyword> in the country. Basically, he is now an MBA student at <keyword id="60501" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIM-Bangalore">IIM Bangalore</keyword>. 
 
For a person who is paralysed neck down (a quadriplegic technically saying), one who can barely move his fingers and uses a custom made wireless keypad at work, it’s unbelievable that Jaskaran scored a whopping 99.04 per cent in CAT. We know what you are wondering... He wrote the exam with the help of a scribe. 
 
“This is an absolutely remarkable effort considering that CAT Organisers (IIM-A this year) did not accede to any of his essential requests,” Mr Singararaman’s <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10209605867804555&amp;set=pcb.10209605902325418&amp;type=3">Facebook post read</a>. 
 
It’s not his injury, but his determination to fight against all odds and emerge as the winner that makes courageous people like him extremely SPECIAL for all of us. We cannot say it has been easy for Jaskaran to get to where he is today, we probably cannot even imagine the trials and tribulations in his life. But, things would have been little more difficult for him despite having cracked the entrance, had it not been for this man who fought the system 16 years back. 
 
We are talking of Mr Singararaman, the one who wrote the Facebook post on Jaskaran on Monday. He himself suffered a Spinal Cord Injury back in 1990 and was refused readmission by IIM Bangalore.

"It took the efforts of Dr Suranjan Bhattacharji and my friends led by Elango Thambiah to change the mind of the management. IIM-B now is a leader in high quality access thanks to efforts spearheaded by Prof Rishikesha Krishnan, who is now the Director of IIM Indore," he says. 
 
If you are thinking about Mr Suranjan Bhattacharji, he is who changed minds in the college on denial of Mr Singararaman's readmission. A very highly regarded person in the top medicine-related places across the world, Mr Singararaman says Bhattacharji has made difference to several thousands of physically challenged persons across India. Now retired, he has gone to try and lift healthcare in a remote part of Orissa near the Niyamgiri Hills. 
 
It was probably this collective effort 16 years ago, that a deserving candidate today is not denied admission to an IIM on account of his/her health. Jaskaran, however, has done what many of us cannot do with our hands and feet fully functional. He is an inspiration for everyone. One person who he couldn't have done this without is - Divya Parashar, a Clinical Psychologist at Indian Spinal Injuries Centre. 
 
Call it a coincidence, but I was sitting with Mr Vipul Rastogi - a Behavioural Neurology and Psychiatry specialist at Medanta Hospital - today, and he pointed out to me the need for more Psychologists in our country. I relate it to this story, even though he spoke to me generally. He said: “We need more psychologists who can attend to patients suffering from such health problems. The problem is we don’t have enough psychologists, and when we refer our patients to consult them, patients refuse citing reasons that they are either busy and would prefer to have medicines prescribed or it’s an expensive deal for them. We need more such doctors who can hand hold such patients in their hour of need.” 
 
It seems Divya has set the example for more medical students to become Psychologists and make a difference. She played perhaps the most important role in Jaskaran’s life after his spinal cord injury in a road accident in which he lost his entire family.

Jasnil Kumar who works in a garment store becomes KBC 15's second crorepati

(Eds: Updating after discharge of players from hospital and incorporating SAI statement) New Delhi, Aug 17 () Six Indian men's hockey team players, including skipper Manpreet Singh, were on Monday discharged from a Bengaluru hospital after recovering from COVID-19. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) said in a statement that Manpreet, defender Surender Kumar, Jaskaran Singh, Varun Kumar, goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak and striker Mandeep Singh have been placed under quarantine at its Bengaluru centre after they were discharged from the hospital. "Manpreet Singh, Surender Kumar, Jaskaran Singh, Varun Kumar, Krishan B Pathak and Mandeep Singh, who had tested Positive for COVID-19 earlier this month and were later shifted to hospital as a precautionary measure and for better monitoring were discharged from hospital earlier today," the SAI said. "They are now under quarantine at Sports Authority of India's National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Bengaluru." Speaking about the health condition of the players, Dr Arun Kumar of SS Sparsh Multispeciality hospital in Bengaluru said, "All the six players have recovered fully and their vitals are absolutely stable. "They will be in quarantine at SAI's Bengaluru centre and will be given the anti-body test after 10 days to check if they have built immunity against the virus." All the six players are housed in the ground floor of the hostel, where other members of the camp have no access, the SAI said. "This is a precautionary measure to ensure there is no contact between the six players and the other campers over the next 10 days." The SAI said the rest of the players of the Indian hockey teams, men and women, will resume sporting activities from Wednesday as scheduled. Earlier, a SAI source had told that all the six players have tested negative twice and their vitals are normal. They returned positive for the virus between August 10 and 12. "All the hockey players have completely recovered from COVID-19 and will be discharged this evening," the source said. Although asymptomatic, Mandeep was the first to be shifted to the hospital by the SAI after a dip in his blood oxygen level. Later, Manpreet and four other players were also moved to the same hospital as a precautionary measure. Currently, 33 male and 24 female players are in Bengaluru for the camp. Although asymptomatic, Mandeep was the first to be shifted to the SS Sparsh Multi-speciality Hospital in Bengaluru by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) after a dip in his blood oxygen level. Later, Manpreet and four other players were also moved to the same hospital as a precautionary measure. The training camps for both the men and women teams will begin in Bengaluru from Wednesday. However, the six recovered players will have to serve some more time in solation before they join their teammates. Currently, 33 male and 24 female players are in Bengaluru for the camp. The light intensity national camp is expected to continue till September 30. "But as per the state government guidelines the recovered players will have to live in isolation inside SAI campus for a week to 10 more days before resuming practice," the source said.  All-rounder Hardik Pandya's last-over heroics helped <keyword id="13880" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Indians">Mumbai Indians</keyword> recover from a mediocre position to post a healthy 184/8 against <keyword id="3315697" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rising-Pune-Supergiant">Rising Pune Supergiant</keyword> (RPS) in the second game of the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium here on Thursday. 
 
Bengal medium pacer Ashoke Dinda was the culprit for the home side conceding 30 runs in the final over when Hardik (35 not out) hammered the right-armer for four sixes (including three consecutive) and a four to change the course of the game. 
 
Earlier, South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir, who went unsold in the auctions and was a late addition to the Pune squad, brought the hosts back into the game with three quick wickets after the Mumbai opening duo of Jos Buttler (38) and Parthiv Patel (19) added 45 runs for the opening wicket.

Researchers plan to present the results of an advanced clinical trial of the formula next month at the American Psychiatric Association meeting.</li><li>An early glimpse at some of the results suggests that the formula is safe and linked with sustained improvements in depressive symptoms over a year. </li></ul> Ketamine, which has been called "<a href="http://science.sciencemag.org/content/338/6103/68.full">the most important discovery in half a century</a>," just got a step closer to becoming the first new drug for depression in 35 years.The compound has a reputation as a party drug, but many experts say that's unfair, since ketamine is increasingly being studied for its potential use as a rapid-fire treatment for depression.In people who live with the disease, thoughts of suicide can strike suddenly and without warning. Fast-acting, successful interventions are hard to come by. But a spate of recent research suggests ketamine could provide quick and powerful relief - even to people whose depression has repeatedly failed to respond to other medications, as well as to individuals who are suicidal.The promising studies on the treatment so far have come with one important caveat, however: the drug has to be taken intravenously, or via an injection, over roughly 45 minutes. That makes it a lot harder to get and take than a typical antidepressant pills such as Lexapro.With that in mind, Johnson &amp; Johnson company Janssen Research and Development has been actively pursuing the development of a formulation of the drug that would be safe and more convenient to administer. They're not alone: Allergan is in the last phase of clinical trials with a drug that <a href="https://www.fiercebiotech.com/regulatory/allergan-s-depression-drug-bags-a-breakthrough-tag-on-way-to-phase-iii">acts on the same receptor as ketamine</a>.Yet Johnson &amp; Johnson may be the furthest ahead in its research. The company <a href="https://www.jnj.com/media-center/press-releases/esketamine-recieves-breakthrough-therapy-designation-from-us-food-and-drug-administration-for-major-depressive-disorder-with-imminent-risk-of-suicide">received breakthrough therapy designation</a> for its nasal formulation from the US Food and Drug Administration in 2016, an elite and competitive status that is designed to speed the drug through the complex federal approval process.Earlier this month, the company shared with Business Insider some early results of a clinical trial of the nasal-spray formulation of the drug. The results suggest that the formula is well-tolerated by patients and linked with long-lasting improvements in depressive symptoms.<h2>The promising <keyword id="41551" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="science">science</keyword> on ketamine</h2>Ketamine's utility as an antidepressant has recently started to gain attention.A recent <a href="https://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/doi/full/10.1176/appi.ajp.2017.17060647">study out of Columbia University Medical Center</a> found that ketamine worked significantly better at curbing suicidal thoughts in depressed patients than a commonly used sedative.A spate of other studies over the past several years have suggested that ketamine may <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ketamine-for-depression-2017-5">provide swift and powerful relief</a> to people suffering from some of the hardest-to-treat forms of depression - an illness that is the <a href="http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs369/en/">leading disability worldwide</a>. However, most studies of ketamine for depression have only lasted several weeks, which makes it difficult to say whether the drug has long-lasting potential. But Johnson &amp; Johnson's clinical trial took place over nearly a year. Additionally, rather than addressing people's depression with ketamine alone, the researchers gave them the ketamine nasal spray along with an oral antidepressant.Data from their clinical study - which used esketamine, the chemical mirror image of ketamine - suggest that patients tolerated the drug well. Most importantly, the treatment was also linked with sustained improvements in depressive symptoms over more than 11 months - making it one of the longest-lasting studies of ketamine to date."Janssen is committed to developing esketamine for treatment-resistant depression, a serious biological illness with high unmet need," Jaskaran Singh, Janssen's senior director of clinical research in its neuroscience therapeutics area, said during a presentation of the results on March 23 in Oxford.Their research currently is focused on people with one of the hardest to treat forms of depression (known as treatment-resistant depression). But company representatives told Business Insider that they also have plans to study the formula in adults and teens with major depressive disorder who are at imminent risk for suicide.<h2>How ketamine is being administered now</h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image">Erin Brodwin / Business Insider</div></div></div>After a 45-minute infusion of ketamine, clients at a clinic in San Francisco's Nob Hill neighborhood are not partying.Instead, they're in a state of quiet contemplation - reclining on cushioned chairs, listening to music, or occasionally striking a tranquil yoga pose.These clients are patients at one of 10 ketamine clinics operated by Actify Neurotherapies, a network that offers the drug via intravenous injection to people diagnosed with severe forms of anxiety and depression.While ketamine is a powerful dissociative that can induce feelings of being separated from one's own body, it is also <a href="http://www.who.int/medicines/news/20160309_FactFile_Ketamine.pdf">one of the safest and most widely used legal anesthetics</a>. Because the drug is federal approved for anesthesia, Actify - along with an estimated 50 to 100 other providers across the US - are legally able to administer it for depression.But using it for depression is considered "off-label" since that application of the drug is not outlined in its federally-approved designation. That means many patients must pay for the treatments out of pocket. Some insurance companies may reimburse some of the cost, but many do not. And the treatments aren't cheap - they typically <a href="https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/886750#vp_1">range from $400 to $1,000 per infusion</a>; at Actify, they are $570 each.<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ketamine-depression-research-2017-12">At Actify's San Francisco office</a>, each two-hour visit includes 45 minutes of ketamine infusion, 45 minutes of a saline drip, and a consultation with <a href="https://ktcpartnership.com/san-francisco-ca/">Alison McInnes</a>, a physician who founded a regional ketamine therapy program with Kaiser Permanente. Most patients receive 10 infusions over the course of 10 weeks - three in the first week, two in the second, and one infusion in the third, fourth, and fifth weeks. The last two infusions are spread between weeks seven and 10."These are people who've been sick for decades and heard from multiple doctors that there's nothing else they can do," <a href="https://ktcpartnership.com/about-us/">Steve Levine</a>, a psychiatrist and the CEO of Actify, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ketamine-depression-research-2017-12">told Business Insider during a recent visit to the clinic</a>. "We're enabling them to get back to their normal lives."<h2>A wave of hope from experts</h2>Experts who study depression say they're onto something promising with ketamine. In a field that hasn't seen a new class of drugs in nearly four decades - and in which patients are often desperate and suicidal - that kind of sentiment holds a lot of weight."Imagine arriving in the emergency room with severe pain from a kidney stone - pain so bad that you can't think. You'll do anything to make it go away. And the doctors say, 'here's a drug that we've been using for 30 years, it works 50-60% of the time, and it should start to work in 4-6 weeks'" <a href="http://www.massgeneral.org/doctors/doctor.aspx?id=18473">Cristina Cusin</a>, a psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital and an assistant professor at Harvard University, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/depression-medication-treatment-ketamine-2018-2">told Business Insider in March</a>. For someone who is suicidal, "that's currently the best we can do," she said. Cusin co-authored a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/depression-medication-treatment-ketamine-2018-2">large recent review of the existing research on ketamine</a> that was published in March in the Harvard Review of Psychiatry. Her findings shed light on the need for new treatments, but she also advises caution for patients."We are just scratching the surface of the mechanisms of action with ketamine," Cusin said. "In the next few years I'm really hopeful that we're going to see new drugs that are completely different than what we have now." Don Mordecai, Kaiser Permanente's national leader for mental health, echoed some of Cusin's sentiment.
