A large portion of the <keyword id="10112319" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="historic-shahpur-fort">historic Shahpur fort</keyword> in Telangana's <keyword id="4470378" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jangaon-District">Jangaon district</keyword> collapsed on Thursday. Three houses were damaged under the debris of the fort. However, no one was injured as the residents had vacated the house after cracks in the fort widened following heavy rains during the last few days. A video of the fort's collapse went viral on social media. Locals can be heard screaming as the dilapidated structure caved in. Popular as <keyword id="10112321" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="qila-shahpur">Qila Shahpur</keyword>, the hill fort was located in Raghunathapalli mandal of Jangaon district. It was built in 1690s by <keyword id="10112320" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sardar-sarvai-papanna-goud">Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud</keyword>, who along with nearly 4,000 men had attacked Warangal in 1708 after the death of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. It is said that the fort was blown up by the forces led by Dil Khan, then deputy governor Hyderabad. Papanna Goud later rebuilt the fort. According to historian, Papanna Goud and his men were besieged four times while occupying the fort. He was captured and executed in 1710. Telangana's heritage structure Shahpur fort collapses after heavy rains

<ul><li>The ICMR has started conducting rapid survey in five containment zones in Hyderabad.</li><li>The samples are being collected in Miyapur, Tappachabutra, Adibatla, Chandanagar and Balapur.</li></ul> The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in collaboration with the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) on Saturday began a rapid survey in five containment zones in Hyderabad to understand the Coronavirus infection among the urban population in Telangana. The ICMR and NIN teams with the help of the state government officials will collect 100 samples on Saturday and Sunday. Assisted by personnel from the health department, district administration, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, ASHA workers and police, the teams were collecting samples in Miyapur, Tappachabutra, Adibatla, Chandanagargar and Balapur zones. Under the random survey, 100 samples will be collected from each zone. "We are collecting samples from one person from every randomly selected house after collecting all the data about the number of members in the household and their health status," a NIN official said. The ICMR has selected 13 hotspot cities in the country for the rapid survey to know the spread of Covid-19. Hyderabad is one of the hotspot cities. Since Hyderabad-based NIN is one of the ICMR institutes, it was also roped in to conduct the survey. The serum samples will be sent to the National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT), Chennai and the results are likely to come after two weeks. Officials involved in the survey said the samples were not being taken from suspects but from houses picked randomly. For the rapid survey, 10 teams and five coordinators from ICMR-NIN are supported by the state health authorities, district administrations of Hyderabad and Rangareddy, GHMC, district medical personnel and grassroot level health functionaries. NIN Director R. Hemalatha said the rapid survey was aimed at monitoring the trends of community transmission of Covid-19, if any, among the urban population. This is part of the ICMR's district level sero-surveillance survey that was taken up in Jangaon, Kamareddy and Nalgonda wherein 1200 samples were collected for analysis in the first phase. Under the first phase, ICMR covered 69 districts in 21 states across the country, including three districts in Telangana, and the results are awaited. "In the current phase, similar surveillance survey is proposed in 13 hotspot cities in India of which Hyderabad happens to be one. In the city, five containment zones have been selected randomly and 500 adults with 100 per containment zone will be randomly covered in the study," NIN researchers said. "While this ends the first phase of the study, ICMR proposes to carry out four more rounds of survey in the coming months at different time points in the same rural and urban clusters. This initial phase would serve as a baseline to determine the sero-prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) infection in the community, while the subsequent rounds would help to monitor the trends of infection among the population of the select zones. The study findings will be useful to guide in designing and implementing appropriate public health preventive measures," said Dr Hemalatha. Earlier, NIN in association with the state government had taken up a house-to-house survey in 30 villages across Jangaon, Kamareddy and Nalgonda districts as part of the community based sero-surveillance. Researchers say since SARS-CoV-2 causes asymptomatic infection, sero-surveillance is strongly recommended for active case finding, testing and contact tracing. Surveillance of antibody-based sero-positivity indicates the extent of the spread of the infection in the given population and forms the basis for strengthening public health mitigation measures. Household based studies can generate evidence on the role of asymptomatic and mild infections in transmission. ICMR starts rapid survey in Hyderabad's five containment zones

Hyderabad, A <keyword id="363748" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="healthcare-worker">healthcare worker</keyword> in <keyword id="68884" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telangana">Telangana</keyword>, who was vaccinated for <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">Covid-19</keyword> on Tuesday, died on Wednesday but authorities said the death seems unrelated to the vaccine. Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Dr G. Srinivas Rao, said that the healthcare worker was given the jab of Covid vaccine on Tuesday at around 11.30 a.m. at Kuntala Primary Health Centre. At about 2.30 a.m. on Tuesday, he is said to have developed chest pain and was brought dead to <keyword id="175303" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="District-hospital">District Hospital</keyword>, Nirmal around 5.30 a.m. "Preliminary findings suggest that the death seems to be unrelated to vaccination. As per the guidelines, post-mortem will be conducted by a team of doctors," the director said. The district Adverse Effects Following Immunization (AEFI) committee is examining the matter and will submit its report to the state AEFI committee. The state AEFI committee will in turn furnish its report to the <keyword id="6378065" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="central">central</keyword> AEFI committee for taking a view. This is the first death to be reported in Telangana since the country-wide vaccination programme for public healthcare workers began on January 16. A total of 51,997 healthcare workers working in Central and state government institutions were vaccinated at 894 centres across the state on Tuesday. Vaccination is not being conducted on Wednesday as per the schedule already announced by the state health authorities. Officials said a total of 69,625 healthcare workers were vaccinated in Telangana in three days. The cumulative percentage vaccinated against target is 74. The Director had stated Tuesday night that no case of serious/severe AEFI was reported. On the third day, 51 AEFI cases were reported. Out of these, three required hospitalisation and they are stable. In one of the cases, a 42-year-old female healthcare worker panicked and collapsed after Covid vaccination shot in Jangaon district. The official termed it as atypical injection panic reaction. The woman quickly recovered. She is stable but was kept under observation as a precautionary measure. On the first day on January 16, a total of 3,962 healthcare workers were vaccinated at 140 centres. Eleven of them had minor side effects and all have recovered. On January 18, a total of 13,665 beneficiaries were covered at 335 centres. Of them 15 reported minor side effects and they have also fully recovered. A healthcare worker in Telangana dies just hours after getting the COVID-19 vaccine shot

Hyderabad, May 15 () Barring four zones of Hyderabad, there are no COVID-19 active cases in the state,Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said on Friday, as 40 people tested positive for the virus. COVID-19 cases are confined to only LB Nagar,Malakpet, Charminar and Karwan zones in Hyderabad, Rao said. Rao, who held a meeting with ministers and officials on the COVID-19 situation, said lockdown in the state would continue as it is and that further strategy would be decided as per the guidelines to be given by the Centre after the ongoing nationwide lockdown comes an end on May 17. "Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has declared that except in four zones in Hyderabad, there are no <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> active cases in the State," an official release said on Friday night. Rao had earlier announced lockdown in the state till May 29. The release said shops selling ACs, automobile spare parts and also automobile showrooms would be permitted to openfrom Saturday. On Friday, 40 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported which took the number of virus cases in the state to 1,454. No fresh death was reported and the number of deaths continued to be 34, according to a COVID-19 bulletin issued bythe state government. The number of people cured/discharged as on date was 959 and the number of active cases in the state stood at 461. "Coronavirus in Telangana has limited itself to four zones in Hyderabad city. LB Nagar, Malakpet, Charminar,Karawan Zones have corona active cases. There are 1442 families in these areas," he said. Only some migrant workers in Yadadri Bhongir,Jangaon and Mancherial districts have tested positive for thevirus, but not residents of the districts, he said. Hence, it cannot be considered that three districts are having the positive cases, he said. The lockdown restrictions are being implemented completely in the four containment zones where there are positive cases, he said. Observing that there is nothing to be scared about the virus, Rao said a strategy to live with it has to be adopted as it is not known how long the virus would remain active. "A majority of people have been recovering from the virus. In Telangana state, the percentage of people who died due to the coronavirus was only 2.38% .This is less than the nation's average of 3.5 per cent," he said. "Hence, there is no need to be fearful about corona.We don't know how long this virus will be with us. .....we have to adapt a strategy to live with it and we have no option," the CM said. The state government has earlier allowed, among few others, shops related to agriculture and construction activities besides liquor shops to function. Rao instructed officials to take precautionary measures to prevent outbreak of seasonal diseases during the coming rainy season, while continuing the efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
