The complex comprises five giga factories for photovoltaic panels, fuel cell system, green hydrogen, energy storage and power electronics. "On track to commence new energy facilities in phases this year," the company said in a post-third-quarter earnings call with investors. Post announcement of third-quarter earnings on Friday, Ambani stated that the "New Energy Giga Complex is all set to be commissioned in the second half of CY24. I am confident that Reliance's New <keyword id="679565" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="energy-business" source="Orion">Energy business</keyword> will play a pivotal role in the global movement for adoption of cleaner fuels." The Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex will be among the largest integrated renewable energy manufacturing facilities in the world. Reliance has signed an MoU with the Gujarat government to set up 100 gigawatt renewable power at Rs 5 lakh crore capex. It has received in-principle approval for 74,750 hectares (ha.) of land parcels in Kutch for green hydrogen. The firm has strategically invested in ten global technology innovators with strong expertise across the new energy value chain. "Reliance is nearing the commissioning of the first tranche of 5GW module manufacturing capacity in mid-CY24," Nuvama said in a January 17 note. It has via REC Solar signed a supply agreement with China-based Suzhou Maxwell Technologies to buy a high efficiency production line for HJT cells (4.8GW capacity). It signed a 5.2GW HJT module automation production agreement with China-based SC Solar in January 2023. It won PLIs under both rounds of solar modules PLI (Round 1: USD 0.3 billion, 4GW; Round 2: USD 0.4 billion, 6GW). Reliance (apart from Greenko) is the only company to win incentives for both green hydrogen and electrolysers concluded recently. It won incentives of USD 0.3 per kg for electrolyser capacity of 300MW and USD 0.23 for green hydrogen capacity of 90,000 tonnes. Besides, it has won PLI under ACC battery storage for 5GW capacity. "These incentives are likely to assist Reliance achieve a green hydrogen cost of USD 1' 1.5 per kg," Nuvama said. Given <keyword id="20002939" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ril" source="keywords">RIL</keyword> is the largest producer and consumer of grey hydrogen, transition to green hydrogen shall enable it to improve margins ahead, it said. The current green hydrogen cost hovers USD 3 per kg, which remains 1.5x compared to grey hydrogen produced using natural gas due to the high cost of generating solar/wind energy as well as high electrolyser cost. Presently, a hybrid of solar and wind remains the cheapest source of generating green hydrogen. The cost for solar remains the highest due to low PLF of electrolysers at 30' 35 per cent versus wind at 65' 70 per cent, and for hybrid 70' 75 per cent.

Reliance to commission new energy giga complex this year

As part of its vision for the company's rapid transition to a new era of green, clean and renewable energy, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited (<keyword id="6484187" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ril">RIL</keyword>), <keyword id="3820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>, on Thursday unveiled the strategy and roadmap for its New Energy and New Materials business with an investment of ₹75,000 crore over a period of three years. During the 44th annual general meeting of RIL, Ambani said the investment would go into the setting up of four Giga factories that will manufacture and fully integrate all the critical components of the new energy ecosystem involving production of solar energy, storage of intermittent energy, production of green hydrogen and converting hydrogen into motive and stationary power. Reliance will invest 60,000 crore on these initiatives in the next three years. The rest 15,000 crore is kept for value chain, partnerships and future cost in the same time frame. Ambani said the company has started work on developing the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex over an area covering 5,000 acres in <keyword id="6361405" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="jamnagar">Jamnagar</keyword>, Gujarat, which will be among the largest integrated renewable energy manufacturing facilities in the world. "Jamnagar was the 'cradle of our old energy business'. It will also be the 'cradle of our new energy business'," Ambani said at the AGM. Reliance will establish and enable at least 100 GW of solar energy by 2030 with a significant part of this coming from rooftop solar and decentralised solar installations in villages, he said. It will also set up an Advanced Energy Storage Giga Factory that will be used to produce large-scale grid batteries to store the energy that is created. The third initiative of the company would be the setting up of an Electrolyser Giga Factory to manufacture modular electrolysers of highest efficiency and lowest capital cost. These can be used for captive production of green hydrogen for domestic use as well as for global sale. The fourth initiative will be a Fuel Cell Giga Factory. A Fuel Cell uses oxygen from the air and hydrogen to generate electricity. "In 2016, we had launched Jio with the aim of bridging the Digital Divide in <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>. Now in 2021, we are launching our New Energy business with the aim of bridging the green energy divide in India and globally," Ambani said. Gujarat Chief Minister <keyword id="193875" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Rupani">Vijay Rupani</keyword> chaired a high powered core committee meeting late on Tuesday evening where the decision to impose night curfew was taken. "The High Court gave some suggestions and we have decided on it. Earlier we had imposed a curfew in four major cities of the state. Gujarat government announces night curfew in 20 major cities from 8 pm to 6 am till April 30

Jamnagar, Apr 7 () A 14-month-old baby boy, who hadtested positive for coronavirus in Gujarats Jamnagar districton April 5, died of multiple organ failure on Tuesday, saidofficials.The toddler, son of a migrant labourer-couple havingno recent travel history, died in the evening at a governmenthospital in Jamnagar, said an official release.He was in a critical condition ever since he wasadmitted to the hospital, it said.The boy, who tested positive for coronavirus two daysago, was as on ventilator support and eventually died due tomultiple organ failure, said the release.He becomes the youngest patient to succumed to COVID-19 in Gujarat, where the death toll has now gone up to 16. 14-month-old boy dies due to coronavirus in Jamnagar

New Delhi, Apr 23 () Reliance Industries Ltd has cut crude oil processing at its exports-only refinery at Jamnagar in Gujarat in March by close to one-fourth as it joins public sector oil firms in cutting run-rate to align production with a coronavirus-induced slump in fuel consumption. RIL's 35.2 million tonnes a year SEZ refinery processed 2.51 million tonnes of crude oil into fuel in March, a drop of 24 per cent year-on-year, according to data released by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Thursday. However, the company's older refinery at the same site processed 5.7 per cent more crude at 3.01 million tonnes. Refiners started to cut down on crude processing only in the latter half of March after travel restrictions first imposed by states followed by a nationwide lockdown beginning March 25 evaporated fuel demand. Fuel demand in nations where Indian refiners exported products like diesel and petrol has also stalled following the outbreak of the pandemic. Public sector refineries in India processed almost 4 per cent less fuel in March. Private sector Nayara Energy's Vadinar refinery in Gujarat too cut crude processing by a similar proportion. The data showed that RIL's SEZ refinery operated at 83.98 per cent capacity in March, as compared to 110.51 per cent capacity utilisation in the same month a year back. Its old refinery, that caters predominately to the domestic market, operated at 101.67 per cent of its 33 million tonnes a year capacity. PSU refineries operated at 101 per cent of their installed capacity as they used cheap crude to fill depots and storage bunks. RIL's twin refineries at Jamnagar produced 4.16 per cent more petroleum products in March at 7.3 million tonnes. Nayara Energy produced 3.33 per cent fewer petroleum products at 1.64 million tonnes while PSU refineries produced almost 2 per cent less product at 11.95 million tonnes. Overall, Indian refineries processed 5.7 per cent less crude oil at 21.2 million tonnes in March and produced 22.9 million tonnes of petroleum products. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a 21-day lockdown beginning March 25, shutting offices and factories, barring those involved in essential services. Also, flights were suspended, trains stopped plying, vehicles went off the road and cargo movement stopped as most people were asked to stay home to help check the spread of coronavirus. The lockdown has been extended till May 3. In March 2020, the country's petroleum product consumption fell 17.79 per cent to 16.08 million tonnes. Diesel, the most consumed fuel in the country, saw demand contract by 24.23 per cent to 5.65 million tonnes. This is the biggest fall in diesel consumption the country has recorded as most trucks went off-road and railways stopped plying trains. Petrol sales dropped 16.37 per cent to 2.15 million tonnes, while ATF consumption fell 32.4 per cent to 4,84,000 tonnes. However, LPG sales rose 1.9 per cent to 2.3 million tonnes in March. April consumption is likely to be worse with petrol sales collapsing 64 per cent, while diesel slumping by 61 per cent. Reliance cuts crude processing at Jamnagar SEZ refinery by 24 pc

<keyword id="45442" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries-Limited">Reliance Industries Limited</keyword> (<keyword id="6484187" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ril">RIL</keyword>) has issued an advisory for its Jamnagar Manufacturing Division (JMD) which includes asking employees to avoid online food and shopping deliveries to the township, sanitising couriers and packages and no visitors or relatives to be invited to the township. Called the COVID-19 travel and gathering advisory, RIL said in an e-mail to employees that with the novel coronavirus situation changing rapidly, the travel and gathering advisories are under close review of all travel from JMD. To restrict mass gatherings and mingling, the advisory states that all household requirements are to be purchased from the township shops only and requested to avoid unnecessary exposure to outside crowd. All gatherings are cancelled and sports facilities in the township are closed down. All employee picnics and functions are also cancelled. "All are requested to avoid online food and online marketing deliveries to township," the advisory says. For restricting entry of visitors and relatives in the township, the advisory says that all employees have been requested to stop such invitations. The dependents of the employees coming to JMD from outside through national or international travel are to give information seven days in advance. They will be screening by paramedics and a self-declaration form will have to be submitted on travel history. There are also restrictions on new support staff hiring. New support staff hiring and new pass issuance in the township are stopped. No service or repair from vendors will be allowed inside the township. All couriers and packages will be sanitised at the security gate. The advisory for employees and families staying in Jamnagar says that Jamnagar residents are requested to stop interacting in gatherings to avoid exposure with affected people. Avoiding online food at home and online purchases till further restrictions and seeking medical support in case of symptoms are part of the advisory. All employees have been asked to stop domestic and international travel, both personal and business. All face-to-face meetings involving travel are to be stopped and advised to hold meetings through video conferencing. Record of all employees on leave and anyone on emergency personal travel is to be monitored and joining to be routed through medical check up, the advisory says.

Markets responded positively to the news, with Reliance's share price up by more than 2% at the close of trading yesterday. In fact, Hemang Jani, the Senior VP of Sharekhan, told ET that he expected a 12-14% upside for Reliance's shares, given the benefit of securing a deep-pocketed investor for one of it's core operations. However, discussions are still at an early stage, They follow <a href="https://www.theweek.in/news/biz-tech/2018/12/18/saudi-arabia-reliance-refinery-petrochem.html">a round of talks </a>in December between Ambani and Khalid al Falih, Saudi Arabia’s oil minister, over potential petrochemical and refinery investments in India. Interestingly, the latter also made it to the wedding of Ambani’s son Akash <a href="https://www.telegraphindia.com/business/saudi-oil-minister-on-second-india-visit/cid/1686508">last month</a>. The refinery and petrochemicals business is extremely important to Reliance’s bottom line, contributing <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/news/reliance-eyes-higher-valuation-for-refining-arm-in-likely-aramco-deal-1555500439610.html">three-quarters of its operating profit</a>. The deal makes sense for Reliance. “It is eyeing the expansion of its refinery in Jamnagar and wants to get another investor on board” says Deven Choksey, MD of K R Choksey Securities. “Reliance wants to increase the capacity of the refinery to 100 million tonnes” adds Choksey. “Hence, the investment from Aramco will strengthen its balance sheet, divide the risk and fund the addition of a new plant at the refinery”. Furthermore, the conglomerate will likely use the proceeds from the deal to pay down its increasing debt obligations, which have ballooned <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-04-17/reliance-said-to-weigh-refinery-unit-stake-sale-to-aramco-adnoc">to $32 billion</a> by the end of 2018, following investments in its telecommunications business, Jio. Aramco has also been eyeing the Indian market for a while now and the deal with Reliance will give it a stronger presence in the country’s downstream energy sector. However, that isn’t the only investment it is weighing. Last July, Saudi Aramco and ADNOC, Abu Dhabi’s state oil firm, decided to join hands <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/saudi-arabia-has-big-plans-for-indias-energy-sector/articleshow/66236777.cms">on a $44 billion refinery project </a>in <keyword id="94802" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ratnagiri">Ratnagiri</keyword>, which is in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The two state-backed oil producers are taking a 50% stake in the Ratnagiri project, which is expected to produce 1.2 million barrels per day, while the other half will be owned by a consortium of Indian refiners such as IOC and BPCL. Sources say that Aramco <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/companies/aramco-will-stay-committed-to-ratnagiri-project/article26866612.ece">is still committed to the Ratnagiri project,</a> regardless of the outcome of deal talks with Reliance. The proposed expansion to the facility, which is the world’s largest refining complex, is expected to cost around $10 billion and will boost the facility’s annual refining capacity to 30 million tonnes of crude oil. It will involve the addition of a new refining train and is part of a plan to increase Reliance’s supply of raw crude for industrial processes as well as diesel for commercial vehicles. The move is a direct play at cementing Reliance’s dominance in a market that is positioned to be the world’s<a href="https://energy.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/oil-and-gas/india-will-register-highest-gdp-energy-demand-among-all-nations-through-2040-opec-world-oil-outlook-2040/65924579"> fastest growing consumer of fuel</a> within the next two decades, despite the government’s desire to embrace the electrification of vehicles. Having traditionally focused on exports of petrochemicals to markets across Asia, Europe and Africa, the Mukesh Ambani-owned conglomerate is preparing to tap into domestic demand. A number of global oil companies, including the likes of Saudi Aramco, Royal Dutch Shell and Rosneft are looking to make inroads into India’s downstream energy sector. Last month, Khalid A Al-Falih, the chairman of Saudi Aramco, said that the world’s largest oil producing company was assessing <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/saudi-arabia-has-big-plans-for-indias-energy-sector/articleshow/66236777.cms">a range of investment opportunities</a> in India’s downstream sector. In July, Saudi Aramco and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), decided to join hands on a $44 billion refinery project in Ratnagiri, in the Indian state of Maharashtra. In addition to expanding its refining capacity, Reliance is also taking big steps in the fuel retailing sector. It was reported last month that the company was <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/indias-reliance-is-teaming-up-with-bp-in-a-move-that-could-send-the-countrys-state-owned-fuel-giants-into-a-tailspin/articleshow/66331991.cms">tying up with British Petroleum</a> to launch 2,000 fuel retail outlets across India by 2022. The current expansion plan is still in early stages and is expected to be finalised keeping a start date of 2020 in mind. In September 2017, Reliance was reported to be deliberating on a plan to increase the refining capacity of its Jamnagar plant by as much <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Industry/5TB0GQSisKsj1KRumETYhN/Reliance-Industries-plans-major-expansion-at-its-Jamnagar-oi.html">as 40% by 2030.</a> The move was envisioned to follow the completion of a <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Industry/RPXW920S8N2UlP5CPecR0N/RIL-commissions-worlds-largest-ROGC-complex-at-Jamnagar.html">$16 billion expansion initiative </a>that started in 2014. However, the plan was temporarily put on hold while the conglomerate doubled down on its telecom investments. India’s Reliance Industries is reportedly planning to boost the capacity of the world’s largest petroleum refinery by 50%

<keyword id="6487" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries-Ltd">Reliance Industries Ltd</keyword> plans to shut a crude distillation unit (CDU) at its <keyword id="154691" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jamnagar-refinery">Jamnagar refinery</keyword> in Gujarat for 10 days in the first half of July for maintenance and <keyword id="6378857" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="repair">repair</keyword>. 

	The other three distillation units, including major secondary processing units will operate normally during this period and the planned maintenance activity will not have any impact on commercial commitments, ET reported on Monday, citing a release by the company. 
 

	According to the company, the routine shut down will also help it carry out necessary modifications to improve the reliability and performance of the unit.
 

	Reliance, owner of the world's biggest refining complex, has two mega-sized refineries in India. The older 660,000-bpd refinery at the complex also has two crude units and mainly caters to domestic demand.
