<ul class="summary-list"><li>A Georgia pastor says that he wants to adopt growing cannabis to attract members, particularly young men. </li><li>Pastor Jamal Bryant said he wants to teach young Black men "farming."</li></ul><p>A Georgia megachurch pastor is facing criticism after proposing a farm on church grounds that grows cannabis to boost membership and promote entrepreneurship for young Black men, <a href="https://katu.com/news/nation-world/pastors-plan-to-get-people-to-church-includes-growing-weed-starting-cannabis-business-black-men-jamal-bryant-new-birth-missionary-baptist-church-atlanta-georgia">according to KATU, an ABC News affiliate in Georgia.</a></p><p>"I'm mindful that I'm not after Christians. I'm after people who don't go to church," said Pastor Jamal Bryant of Georgia-based New Birth Missionary Baptist Church during a December 7 appearance on the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toegD-T2gLw">"Cool Soror" podcast with Rashan Ali</a>. "A lot of churches are just recycling people from other churches. That's not who I'm after, I'm looking for people who smell like weed."</p><p>"New Birth is the largest land-owning Black church in America. My position to my deacons is 'why aren't we not raising cannabis?" Bryant continued. "I'll be able to bring in Black males. They'll be able to do it legally. I'm teaching them farming. I'm helping them to enhance the ecosystem."</p><p>Georgia maintains its position as one of the states with strict cannabis laws, <a href="https://www.walb.com/2022/10/08/should-georgia-change-its-marijuana-laws-residents-react/">according to WALB</a>, and people could face jail time for having it in their possession. </p><p>Bryant's comments were met with swift criticism on social media. Bryant, also known as the <a href="https://www.insider.com/gizelle-bryant-jamal-divorce-prenup-fought-money-2021-6">ex-husband of "Real Housewives of Potomac" star Gizelle Bryant</a>, took to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl7jS7COe30/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=1e616672-9a5e-4670-8ec9-78819692a022">Instagram Live</a> to further explain his concept, local news reported, and stated that "the call is not to bring people to smoke at church."</p><p>"It is my intention that if we can show young people the advantages and impact of urban farming, it will make a distinct difference," Bryant said.</p>

A Georgia pastor wants his church to grow cannabis to attract more congregants and teach young Black men urban farming: 'I'm looking for people who smell like weed'

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Defense Attorney Kevin Gough continues to attack Black pastors while his client stands trial. </li><li>Black clergy held a rally outside the Glynn County Courthouse where the trial is taking place. </li></ul><p>Black pastors aren't on the stand, but continue to be at the center of the murder trial for the three men charged with killing <keyword id="11911210" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ahmaud-arbery" source="Orion">Ahmaud Arbery</keyword> in Georgia in February 2020. </p><p>After hundreds of Black pastors flowed into local Brunswick for a rally outside the Glynn County Courthouse in support of the parents of Ahmaud Arbery last week, defense attorney Kevin Gough took another jab at clergy. </p><p>"This is what a public lynching looks like in the 21 st Century," Gough said, arguing the "case has been infected by things that have nothing to do with the guilt or innocence of these defendants." </p><p>Both in Georgia and nationwide, however, Black clergy aren't backing down.</p><p>"That's what [you] get when you tell Black Pastors to stay away," Diane Robinson, a filmmaker and Writer said of the rally, where more than 200 pastors attended. "You gonna learn today Georgia! Amen!"</p><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/new-study-shows-link-between-black-faith-and-fight-for-racial-justice-2021-10">Historically</a> Black religious leaders have served not only in the spiritual support of the Black community, but also as political leaders. And across the country, Black clergy are vowing to support and pray for the Arbery family while not letting their presence distract from their mission of justice. </p><p>Gough's statements have received immense pushback online. </p><p>Defense Attorney and Legal analyst for CNN and Law and <keyword id="11893298" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="crime" source="Orion">Crime</keyword> Network, Julius Kim tweeted that Gough's comments were "outrageous and incredibly tone deaf." </p><p>"Is every white man down there afraid of Black people or something," he questioned. Defense attorneys had previously criticised</p><p>Arbery was a 25-year-old Black man who was murdered last year as he was jogging through his neighborhood outside the Georgia port city. Months later, the video of his murder went viral on social media igniting a national cry for racial justice. </p><p>Travis McMichael, his father, Greg, and their neighbor William 'Roddie' Bryan are all standing trial for Arbery's murder and face. </p><h2><strong>Gough began his attacks on Black clergy earlier this month </strong></h2><p>This is not the first time Gough has attacked Black religious leader's presence at the murder trial of Arbery.  </p><p>Gough first lashed out at Black clergy nearly <a href="https://www.insider.com/al-sharpton-blasts-defense-in-arbery-trial-for-trying-to-limit-black-pastors-in-court-2021-11">two weeks prior</a>, when the Rev. Al Sharpton arrived at the Glynn County Courthouse alongside Arbery's parents, Marcus Arbery Sr. and Wanda Cooper-Jones.</p><p>By the following day, Revs. Jesse Jackson and William J. Barber had joined the family to provide emotional and spiritual support during the trial. </p><p>In response, Gough then asked Judge Timothy Walmsley to bar additional clergy. </p><p>"Obviously there's only so many pastors they can have," Gough said. "And if their pastor's Al Sharpton right now that's fine, but then that's it." </p><p>"We don't want any more Black pastors coming in here, sitting with the victim's family, trying to influence the jurors in this case," Gough later proclaimed.</p><p>Church vans flowed into Brunswick Thursday as Black pastors held signs that read "Black pastors matter." #JusticeforAhmaud hashtag began trending on Twitter as pastors in Georgia and across the country shared photos of themselves in support. </p><p>Rev. Jamal Bryant, of the New Birth Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia, took part in the demonstration, making the comparison of the present to the civil rights movement. </p><p>"Thank you, dear lord, that Brunswick is our generation's Selma, that the civil rights era is now starting over today, right here in Brunswick, Georgia " he prayed according to NPR.</p><p>Martin Luther King III was also in attendance, telling rally-goers "it only takes a few good women and men to bring change."</p><p>"No lawyer can knock us out. Because no matter where you are, God is there," Sharpton said at the rally. "We are going to keep coming until we get justice."</p><p>Pastor Charles Williams, Chair of the National Action Network, tweeted that Black pastors made the journey to Brunswick to remind everyone "the blood will never lose its power." </p><p>According to the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/ahmaud-arbery-georgia-brunswick-al-sharpton-6daf56b12c4fa58da89d1424d5ba090c">Associated Press</a>, Arbery Sr. told supporters at the protest that throughout history Black people have had to rely on their faith to get them through the horrors of slavery and racism in America. </p><p>"That's all we lived on. That's all we had was prayer. What did our great-grandmothers depend on," Arbery said. </p><h2><strong>Black pastors said they will continue to console and pray for the Arbery family</strong></h2><p>Black religious leaders throughout history have been instrumental in civil rights cases, providing not just spiritual support but also addressing family needs. </p><p>Keisha N. Blain, professor of history at the University of Pittsburgh, wrote in a <a href="https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/al-sharpton-right-support-ahmaud-arbery-s-parents-during-his-n1284051">column</a> this week that the Arbery case is no different. From the civil rights movement to Black Lives Matter, Black religious leaders have always been on the forefront for racial justice. </p><p>"​​Their active involvement in civil rights cases has demonstrated their belief that they are called not just to address the spiritual needs of a congregation, but also to address the community's social and political concerns. </p><p>Revs. Jackson and. Sharpton have pledged to stay in Georgia so long as they are needed to console the Arbery family. </p><p>"We need preachers to come pray for them in this insane situation, this inhumane situation," Ben Crump, attorney for the Arbery family, said.  </p>

Black pastors say they'll rally behind the family of Ahmaud Arbery even as defense lawyers target them

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Cast members Mia Thornton and Wendy Osefo are feuding on "The Real Housewives of Potomac." </li></ul><ul class="summary-list"><li>Their beef exploded during a cast dinner in Miami on Sunday's episode. </li></ul><ul class="summary-list"></ul><p>Wendy Osefo and Mia Thornton clashed in their first episode of the "The Real Housewives of Potomac" together in season six, episode one, and their feud has continued to grow. The reality stars recently took their grudge to the next level during a cast trip to Miami in season seven where Mia tossed a full martini glass into Wendy's face. </p><h2><strong>Wendy invited the ladies to her "Nude Interlude" party in season six, episode one. Karen Huger brought Mia as her guest and Mia offended Wendy.</strong></h2><p>Wendy threw a "nude interlude" party to introduce her newly augmented breasts which she named "happy" and "ness" to the ladies of "The Real Housewives of Potomac" in the opening episode of season six. She sent a racy invitation featuring a video of herself doing the <a href="https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/laurenstrapagiel/tiktok-silhouette-challenge-editing">red silhouette challenge</a>. Before accepting the invitation Karen Huger asked if she could bring her new friend Mia to the party and Wendy said yes. </p><p>During the party, Mia encouraged Wendy to share what other procedures she had done, but Wendy did not appear to be interested in sharing additional details. </p><p>Robyn Dixon said she thought Wendy had more work done in her confessionals noting the change in her posterior. Production emphasized Robyn's comments by showing footage of Wendy from behind in seasons five and six. Wendy repeatedly said she <a href="https://news.yahoo.com/wendy-osefo-reveals-dolores-catania-133300702.html">had some "tweaks"</a> but did not say what they were. When Mia pressed the issue by asking again, Osefo clapped back. "And what have you had done? Because it seems like you've had a lot done," she said. </p><p>"And I own it," Mia replied before running down the list of her cosmetic surgeries. </p><h2><strong>Wendy was confused when Mia didn't stick up for Karen</strong></h2><p>Later during the "nude interlude" party Karen and Gizelle Bryant got into a huge argument about Gizelle's relationship with her ex-husband and children's father Jamal Bryant. </p><p>Karen said she took issue with what she considered was Gizelle wishing death on her husband Ray Huger, 76, in season one of the series. Ray told Gizelle to find a husband before her looks began to fade and she said Ray would be "buried six feet under" before that happened. </p><p>Mia defended Gizelle when things slowed down and people were speaking more calmly at the table. Ashley also attended on her own. </p><p>The lunch was intended for the couples to have fun together but the ladies separated from their partners to chat on their own.  </p><p>Mia said she thought Gizelle had "questionable" character and was "just a pretty face" at the luncheon. She credited her change of opinion to Gizelle's "six feet under" comment regarding Ray. "That's not okay," she said. </p><p>Wendy pointed out the discrepancy between Mia's statements and noted that they were made less than twenty-four hours apart in a tweet. "I'm a little bit slighted that she's coming to my restaurant in my city and didn't even holla at me," he said. </p><p>Charrisse said she was interested in working with Peter on a champagne lounge. Charrisse, an OG housewife, showed the ladies her customized champagne room in season two episode twelve. </p><p>"Are you going to blow me off like Wendy blowed me off?" She also threw a salad at Candiace in season six, episode fourteen. </p><p>Security stepped in to keep the ladies from full-on brawling. Robyn filmed the whole encounter on her phone to avoid "he said, she said bullshit" happening later. </p><p>Karen looked into Robyn's phone and declared that she was staying out of the drama because it was her 59th birthday. </p><p>Robyn accused Wendy of "baiting" Mia and "being antagonistic" and told her she should not keep going if she did not want to fight. "If you don't want to fight then stop," said Robyn. </p><p>Wendy was disappointed that she was being chastised and not Mia. "You're telling me to stop but she threw a drink on me Robyn," she said. </p><h2><strong>Wendy asked Mia if she was sleeping with Peter Thomas </strong></h2><p>"You threw a drink on me over Peter Thomas is you fucking him?" Wendy asked Mia. </p><p>Gizelle thought Wendy missed the mark with that theory. Crater-faced bitch," she screamed. </p><p>The "crater-faced bitch" comment struck a chord with Mia who spun on her heels to head back towards Wendy forcing security to jump in front of her. </p><p>Mia has spoken about the insecurities she has surrounding her acne scars in the press. "It hurts because it's something that I can't necessarily do anything about," she <a href="https://pagesix.com/2022/10/05/why-rhop-star-mia-thornton-threw-a-drink-at-wendy-osefo/">told Page Six</a> in an interview published October 5. </p><p>She revealed that her foster parents didn't take her to a dermatologist in the same interview. </p><h2><strong>Wendy assured everyone her weave was safe </strong></h2><p>Ashley asked Wendy if she was okay after Mia left. "She got it on my hair but I got wet and wavy so I'm okay," yelled Wendy. </p><p>Mia returned to the table after talking with Jaqueline. "Don't let her get you like that sweetie," he told her. </p><h2><strong>Wendy said Mia embarrassed herself by assaulting her </strong></h2><p>Mia spent a good portion of season six discussing how successful she was as an owner of several chiropractic clinics. </p><p>Wendy said Mia's actions were unbecoming of a CEO after Mia threw the drink at her. "You're such a boss what boss throws drinks?" asked Wendy. </p><p>Mia, the trip hostess, asked Wendy to leave. Wendy refused and continued yelling and insulting Mia. </p><p>"You embarrassed yourself! Gizelle said they were not leaving Miami without anyone named Mia. </p><h2><strong>Mia said she regretted her actions in an interview </strong></h2><p>"I do not think that anybody deserves to have a glass in their face," Mia told Page Six. Everything became real. "Atlanta" writers Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori are set to write the screenplay. The original comedy was released by New Line in 1990. It had two sequels, in 1991 and 1994, and starred Kid and Play of the hip hop duo Kid 'n Play. </p><p>"This is definitely not a reboot. It's an entirely new look for a classic movie," James, 33, told THR<em>.</em><span> James, who grew up loving the film, said that the opportunity to bring "House Party" to a new generation is "unbelievable."</span></p><p>"We're trying out some ideas for musicians to be cast in and to be a part of the project," Carter said. On Thursday, Gary Payton II and Thomas Bryant both tested positive for COVID-19; it's unclear if they will join the team at a later date.</p><p>The Nets will be without five of their top nine rotation players, while the Wizards will be without their top two scorers,  who account for roughly 39% of the team's total scoring average.</p><p><div type="image" title="rui hachimura" height="998" width="1331" msid="76900766" hostid="261"></div>The Nets, to fill some roster spots, have signed Jamal Crawford and Michael Beasley. While both are talented, beloved players, neither have played an NBA game in over a year.</p><p>The Orlando Magic sit in eighth place, they have nearly a full squad in Disney and could easily climb into seventh place.</p><p>The Nets and Wizards will likely compete for eighth place and a chance to be swept out of the playoffs by the league-best Milwaukee Bucks. If they finish within four games of each other after eight regular-season games, they'll play a "play-in" tournament to determine the eighth seed.</p><h2>Some have criticized the NBA's format</h2><p>The NBA had to juggle several competing issues when deciding on the format for resuming the season: whether to play regular-season games, TV contracts, the safety of bringing more people into the bubble during the coronavirus pandemic.</p><p>They ultimately decided to bring 22 teams, all within playoff contention, to play eight "seeding" regular-season games and then advance to the standard playoff format. The play-in tournament is sort of a trial run at a long-discussed idea to increase interest in the playoffs.</p><p>However, by including teams like the Wizards and Phoenix Suns in the West, the NBA included an extra two teams who had little shot at the playoffs. With each team bringing traveling parties of 37 people, that means an additional 74 people are entering the bubble.</p><p>Some thought the league should just go right to the playoffs — bring 16 teams, with the standings as is, play the postseason, and get out.</p><p>Playing eight more regular-season games with 22 teams not only helps more teams make back some money they lost while the league was suspended, but it will also help fulfill some local TV deals. The more games, the more revenue is involved.</p><p><div type="image" title="espn wide world of sports.JPG" height="971" width="1295" msid="76900767" hostid="261"></div>The format of the season wouldn't affect whether players tested positive for COVID-19, but it could change the circumstances for some of these teams. If the Wizards were not invited to the bubble, the eight Eastern Conference playoff teams would be decided, and there would be fewer people entering the bubble.</p><p>The Nets would still be entering the bubble short-handed, but at least their stay would be shorter. The Nets traveled to Orlando on Tuesday. Their regular-season games conclude on August 13. If they make the playoff, that stay may be extended another two weeks. That could mean up to seven weeks, isolated, without their families, for what are now essentially meaningless games.</p><p>If the season went straight to the playoffs, the Nets would be there, nonetheless, but their stay would be several weeks shorter. With many players expressing concern about being away from their loved ones for weeks at a time, those extra few weeks could make a big difference.</p><p>"Going in there for a month or a month and a half before you see your family, that's gonna be tough," Giannis Antetokounmpo recently told reporters.</p><p>Additionally, the product is going to suffer — a concern of the NBA's. ESPN previously reported in May that the league was sensitive to the idea of putting on an inferior product when games finally resumed after such a long layoff. That almost certainly would have been the case with the teams at the bottom of the standings if all 30 clubs returned to play.
