Tech Mahindra chief CP <keyword id="45924" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="gurnani" source="Orion">Gurnani</keyword> wants to transition from being a long serving captain in the IT industry to a "coach" after he retires from the company in December this year. The nomination and remuneration committee has extended the tenure of Gurnani till December 19, 2023 as it looks to work on the succession plan of Gurnani. While he did not divulge any further details on the succession plan, sources have indicated that internal candidates -- <keyword id="2493116" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jagdish-mitra" source="Orion">Jagdish Mitra</keyword>, Manish <keyword id="30343" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vyas" source="Orion">Vyas</keyword>, <keyword id="2173310" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="lakshmanan-chidambaram" source="Orion">Lakshmanan Chidambaram</keyword> are among top contenders for the post. Jagdish Mitra is currently serving as Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Growth, who has been with the group for last 30 years; Vyas is serving as President, Communications, Media and Entertainment Business, and CEO, Network Services and been with the company for last 23 years and <keyword id="6362104" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="chidambaram" source="Orion">Chidambaram</keyword>, currently serving as President for <keyword id="16133454" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tech-mahindra-americas" source="Orion">Tech Mahindra Americas</keyword> and been with company since December 2012. Gurnani said that the succession plan will be finalised by the committee as per the corporate governance norms of the company. "I've done the same business for a very long time. I became a CXO at the age of 38 and am now stepping down at the age of 65. All I'm trying to say is that I've been a playing captain for a very long time. I will become a coach. I will no longer be a playing captain," Gurnani said. One of the longest serving CEOs in the technology sector, Gurnani told PTI that would like to see the other side of the world and pursue things that are close to his heart. "I have been one of the longest serving CEOs of the technology sector. I think it is fair that I get to see what the other side of the world looks like and I'm not talking about travel. I'm talking about a few things that I've always wanted to do in life. It is also good for the corporation that we get a new leader because a bit of rotation is like getting more oxygen into the system," Gurnani said. While talking about business, Gurnani said Tech Mahindra will continue to deepen its presence in Japan and Europe and look at opening delivery centres closer to the home of its employees. "I have always been a very big admirer of Japan, I will continue to create much deeper business interest in Japan. Frankly, I think Europe is a big opportunity now. Because overall Europe has felt the impact of the war. "The war has been closest to them. Every individual in Europe has paid a price by inflation and higher energy bills. I believe that some of our cost transformation initiatives would be very helpful to European clients. So, my focus will be Japan and Europe," he said. Gurnani said that the technology sector has matured and they have continued to serve their consumers, businesses, enterprises and corporates around the world by not taking a position. "The only area where there has been some conversations is there organizations which are using cyber attacks as a weapon," Gurnani said but declined to reveal further details. When asked about a broad strategic action plan that the company is planning to put in place this year, Gurani said that Tech Mahindra will look at distributing delivery centres across the country and near to the homes of its employees. "We continue to make technological investments in the future of technology. Right now it is AI, cloud, metaverse and we have already started investing in quantum computing. We want to be ahead of the curve. There are some of our products which I think will be able to commercialize them a lot better," Gurnani said. Here’s how Tech Mahindra is using start-ups to ensure retention of their best IT employees

<ul><li>Tech Mahindra and Canada-based ChampTrax Technologies are collaborating to create a ‘stadium-like’ experience for sports fans. </li><li>Using <keyword id="1671941" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G-technology">5G technology</keyword> and <keyword id="6369782" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="augmented-reality">augmented reality</keyword> (AR) users will be able to bring the stadium into their homes and watch the game with their friends over a holographic call. </li><li>The only catch is that India doesn’t have <keyword id="1671940" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G-network">5G network</keyword> connectivity yet and 5G phones are expensive. </li></ul>Social distancing is here to stay and most of us are going to be stuck watching our favourite teams play from home. However, if 5G networks finally make their way to India there’s a possibility that you could still be at the stadium as a <keyword id="89487" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hologram">hologram</keyword> and have the stadium come to you using augmented reality (AR). Indian IT giant Tech Mahindra and Canda-based ChampTrax Technologies have partnered up to create a ‘stadium-like’ experience for global sports fans since social distancing looks like it’s here to stay for a while. “As part of our collaboration with ChampTrax, we will work on 5G use cases for introducing holographic virtual fan to the stadium,” Jagdish Mitra, the chief strategy officer and head of growth at Tech Mahindra told Business Insider. <div type="image" title="stadium_tech_edited" msid="76066435" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Empty seats at a cricket stadium&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> However, it may be a while before we see this deployed in Indian stadiums. One, there’s a cost consideration that needs to be taken into account. And two, 5G networks are yet to be deployed locally. The 5G auction hasn’t taken place yet and seems to have taken a backseat amid the ongoing coronavirus lockdown. “We are engaging in talks with multiple sports clubs and teams across the globe to bring a best of both world experience in sports,” said Mitra. Hologram fans at stadiums To set up the experience, the stadium will have to bear the cost of the technology. “Stadiums will be required to have proper 5G infrastructure and will also have to install 5G enabled cameras,” said Mitra. For the players, ChampTrax’ ‘HearMeCheer’ solution will be able to combine the audio from each fan and project that noise to the stadium. “As the audience watches a game with the web app it automatically sends microphone data that aggregates these sounds to create a single audio stream effect of a unified crowd,” he explained. <div type="image" title="emptyseats" msid="76066522" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;New Delhi&amp;#39;s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Mitra promises that the noise and cheers won’t distract players from their game. “These will be integrated into real-time broadcasts. I feel these crowd noises or cheers, motivates a player rather than distracting them,” he said. Tech Mahindra is also working on some use cases to play ‘crowd cheers’ at the stadium in order to keep the players motivated during the game. However, this may also mean that heckling or ‘boos’ from the crowd when the referee makes a bad call could get filtered out. “There’s no feedback from players yet, as this solution launched only four weeks ago,” said Mitra. For the fans watching from home Mitra explains that a person sitting at home will be able to watch the game in their kitchen, living room or bedroom with their friends through a ‘holographic call’. “You can even project the game in your kitchen and watch from any angle as if it is happening in your kitchen,” he explained. Fans at home will also need to be on a 5G network and own a 5G and AR enable phone — and that doesn’t come cheap. “Sports with a live fan experience is something that we will miss now for a while. New Delhi, Nov 21 () IT services major Tech Mahindra on Thursday said it has signed an agreement with Business Finland for research and development in 5G and 6G.
 Tech Mahindra will develop, pilot and implement state-of-the-art digital products and services to foster growth, productivity and innovations in the area of 5G and 6G, a statement said.
 As part of the partnership, the Mumbai-based company will set up an innovation lab in Finland to foster growth and innovation, a statement said, adding that the facility will be a platform for key players in Finland such as universities, research institutes, government and companies to collaborate.
 "Business Finland will work together with Tech Mahindra to explore the possibility of establishing 5G/6G Innovation Hub in Finland. I am sure that this cooperation will be mutually beneficial and provide great opportunities for both Finland and Tech Mahindra," Finland's Minister for Employment Timo Harakka said.
 Jagdish Mitra, chief strategy officer and head of growth, Tech Mahindra said the Finnish technology ecosystem is one of the most progressive in Europe.
 "Their strategic focus on building 'technologies for the future' has been the cornerstone, and the initiative towards developing 6G technology and further working on 5G use-cases aligns well with our TechMNxt charter, which is our global initiative to leverage future technologies to solve real business problems," he added.
 The collaboration with Business Finland and the newly setup Innovation Centre will enable Tech Mahindra to leverage their expertise in this space and establish the company as a globally recognised leader in 5G and 6G, he said. SR RVK

I am a big fan of Elon Musk and I will do anything to support a thinker like him, even in a small way.” On Monday, Musk had tweeted that his company may have to put on hold its launch plans in India due to the absence of an ecosystem for the supply of electric vehicle components. Responding to a query from Twitter user Avinash Singh on Tesla's India plans, Musk had said, "Maybe I'm misinformed, but I was told that 30% of parts must be locally sourced and the supply does not yet exist in India to support that.”
