Noida-headquartered online marketplace <keyword id="6357120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="PayTM">Paytm</keyword> has decided to join hands with e-commerce giant <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>’s logistics platform Ekart. It is piloting a service where goods shipped from Paytm will be delivered by Ekart. This is hinting at an approaching collaboration between the leader of the market Flipkart and its fast-growing rival. 
 
"We are integrating Ekart with our network of logistics players to offer end-to-end experience for both consumers and sellers," said Sudhanshu Gupta, head of business at Paytm. 
 
Ekart is also looking forward to roping in a rival online marketplace, as it wants to fashion itself into an independent business and not depend only on Flipkart. 
 
Talking of Paytm, the collaboration would help it in building a greater focus on smaller towns and cities, from where it gets more than half of total orders from the total of 1 lakh orders per day. 
 "Ekart will be an interesting experiment for us," <keyword id="198636" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vijay-Shekhar-Sharma">Vijay Shekhar Sharma</keyword>, Paytm’s CEO told ET. "Since we are a marketplace, we work with different vendors to enable our merchants reach a wider consumer base." 
 
Ever since Binny Bansal has become the CEO of Flipkart, Ekart has been seeing a rise in its collaborations. In the recent past, it has also begun a pilot to deliver shipments for Jabong, the online portal dealing in fashion. 
 
"Ekart has the capability to transport over 5 lakh shipments from different sellers across India. We will be using the same capabilities to offer services to other companies," said Amitesh Jha, a VP at Ekart. 
 
All three of India's top ecommerce companies viz Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal, have their in-house logistics companies, so that they can deliver timely shipments. 
 
"Logistics is still broken in India and companies need to quickly build capabilities in ancillary areas and offer value-add services to customers in order to create a hook," said Prahlad Tanwar, director for transport and logistics at KPMG.

<keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> has ranked number one as India’s most trusted e-commerce brand, in a nationwide consumer study titled the ‘The Indian E-tailing Leadership Index’, conducted by research firm Red Seer Consulting. 
 
Flipkart, for the fourth time in a row, is ranked overall number one in the study, scoring the highest among all e-commerce platforms in India in areas like product selection, customer support, ease of return, refund and reverse pick up speed.

Riding on the strength of its supply chain unit – Ekart, Flipkart clocked the shortest average delivery time, not just in the metros, but also across Tier 1 &amp; 2 cities. 
 
The E-tailing Leadership Index (ELI) conducts a comprehensive assessment into how consumers in India view and interact with e-tailing brands. The study findings were based on 7500 consumer interviews across 30 Indian cities on several parameters including brand recall and trust, value, product variety and availability, ease of return, web and app experience, price competitiveness, delivery, overall NPS etc.

How has Flipkart fared in 2016

• Expanded share of fashion with Jabong acquisition, which is at 75% of the online fashion market.

Three top level executives resigned from top management level in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Flipkart&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Flipkart</a>, day after the e-commerce giant named new CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy, who is building his team of top executives primarily consisting of company veterans. 
 
The executives leaving the company are <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Saikiran+Krishnamurthy&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Saikiran Krishnamurthy</a>, who headed the e-tailer supply chain unit Ekart; senior vice president <keyword id="373799" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Surojit-Chatterjee">Surojit Chatterjee</keyword>, who headed product and chief marketing officer <keyword id="2327848" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samardeep-Subandh">Samardeep Subandh</keyword>. 
 Reportedly, the three of them had joined <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> in 2015 when Flipkart was aggressively hiring top talent from outside after raising over $2.6 billion in funding between 2014 and 2015. 
 
The reason for the departure of three executives could not be immediately ascertained. 
 The exit of these executives comes after Flipkart announced that Kalyan Krishnamurthy will be the CEO of the main horizontal commerce unit and also oversee <keyword id="2057197" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="eKart">Ekart</keyword>. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Binny+Bansal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Binny Bansal</a> was elevated to Group CEO and will oversee other businesses, including payments (PhonePe) and fashion (Myntra, Jabong), in addition to finding new growth drivers for the group. 
 
As a part of this reorganisation Nitin Seth, current chief administrative officer at Flipkart, was made the COO for Flipkart with additional responsibility for Ekart and customer experience besides HR, strategy and corporate functions. 
 Seth was directly reporting to Kalyan Krishnamurthy under the new structure. <keyword id="2748488" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Saikiran-Krishnamurthy">Saikiran Krishnamurthy</keyword>, a strategy expert from <keyword id="6372399" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="McKinsey">McKinsey</keyword>, was initially roped in as COO of Flipkart's commerce unit and later went onto lead Ekart. 
 Other two executives - chief product officer <keyword id="278552" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Punit-Soni">Punit Soni</keyword> and chief technology officer <keyword id="4052975" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="peeyush-ranjan-">Peeyush Ranjan -</keyword> left the company last year.

By now they delivered to over 600 cities.</li></ul><ul><li>In 2012, they launched their mobile app, bringing the marketplace in the hands of the consumer.</li></ul><ul><li>Flipkart also introduced the Next Day Shipping Guarantee in 2013.</li></ul><ul><li>It raised more funding, worth $160 million in 2013.</li></ul><ul><li>Over the years, the company grew exponentially with acquisitions of e-tailers like Myntra and WeRead. Huge investments even came in from investors across the globe. </li></ul><ul><li>In 2016, it was the first indian app to cross 50 million users, while it also crossed the 100 million registered user threshold.</li></ul><ul><li>The biggest investment came in from Japanese SoftBank, which made a $2.5 billion bet on the Indian unicorn and e-commerce giant. .</li></ul><ul><li>Sachin Bansal, founder of Flipkart, stepped down from his post as the CEO in 2016. This was filled in 2017 by <keyword id="6379357" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="kalyan-krishnamurthy">Kalyan Krishnamurthy</keyword>, who took over from Binny Bansal.</li></ul><ul><li>Flipkart acquired Myntra for $300 million in 2014 and <keyword id="6388367" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="jabong">Jabong</keyword> for $70 million in 2016.</li></ul><ul><li>In 2018, the company consolidated all its Bangalore offices into one large campus with an area of .83 million square feet.</li></ul><ul><li>In terms of finances, <keyword id="3515858" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="flipkart-group">Flipkart Group</keyword> incurred losses of ₹87.7 billion attributable to the owners of the company in FY17, which rose from ₹52.16 billion in FY16. How Flipkart went from being an online bookseller to India’s biggest e-commerce story

If reports are to be believed, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba is all <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Will-Paytm-pave-the-way-for-Alibabas-entry-in-to-India/articleshow/51490871.cms">set to enter India</a>; and the news is in itself enough to set Indian ecommerce-focussed <keyword id="1474532" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="logistics-companies">logistics companies</keyword> in motion. These companies, like <keyword id="1560090" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhivery">Delhivery</keyword>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Snapdeal-invests-20-mn-in-gojavas-to-reach-100-more-Indian-cities-easily/articleshow/49258885.cms">GoJavas</a> and Ecom Express are all standing in a queue to fetch a partnership from the global ecommerce giant.

Delhivery, backed by Tiger Global, even confirmed that it has had talks with Alibaba last month for a possible partnership. "We have discussed how best we can provide fulfilment for Alibaba, which is still finalising its India strategy. There is no official agreement yet," said Sahil Barua, Delhivery CEO. 
 Delhivery has been in the market for five years now, and has been under pressure to diversify its business portfolio especially after Flipkart moved some of its logistics business to its in-house logistics arm <keyword id="2057197" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="eKart">Ekart</keyword>. The ecommerce giant had been one of Delhivery’s top partners. 
 
Ekart, on the other hand, has recently <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Paytm-joins-hands-with-Flipkart-for-timely-deliveries/articleshow/51696229.cms">tied up with third-party players like Paytm</a>, ShopClues and Jabong, which has made it an emerging name in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/E-commerce-shipping-a-great-business-opportunity-for-India-Post/articleshow/47720544.cms">B2B logistics industry</a>. 
 
As of now, AllCargo Logistics works for Alibaba’s cross-border shipments to India.

Indian logistic companies look forward to partnering with Alibaba for its India entry

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=myntra&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Myntra</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=jabong&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Jabong</a>, which are owned by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=flipkart&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Flipkart</a>, are going to ensure a tighter grip in the e-commerce market and for they are making their back-end operations and supply chain inter-operational, in this regard. 
 Although the two websites will continue to run independently, <keyword id="319719" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Myntra">Myntra</keyword> and <keyword id="6388367" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jabong">Jabong</keyword> will also have inter-operability in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=technology&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">technology</a>. 
 
Jabong, which was acquired by Myntra in July for $70 million, will also see the launch of multiple private labels from Myntra. 
 
"We will be launching Myntra brands such as Dressberry, Roadster, HRX, and Mast &amp; Harbour among others. We are also looking to revive some of the exclusive private labels of Jabong such as Sangria and Miss Bennett London. Myntra logistics will also be one of the partners for Jabong which already uses Ekart for shipping,” Gunjan Soni, head of Jabong and chief marketing officer at Myntra, told ET. 
 
At present, Myntra and Jabong command a 45% market share in the vertical and are likely to post a revenue of Rs 6,000 crore for FY 2016-17. 
 
"While the contribution of offline to the revenues will be lesser, it is a platform for experience. We also plan to scale up the offline stores for Mango post July,” Ananya Tripathi, head of strategy and planning at Myntra, told ET.
