With the <keyword id="6356311" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-health-organisation" source="Orion">World Health Organisation</keyword> (WHO) declaring that Covid-19 is no longer a global emergency, medical device companies are likely to see a decrease in sales, according to a report on Tuesday.<br /><br />In the last three years of the pandemic, many medical device companies made billions through tests and pharmaceuticals.<br /><br />The report by data and analytics company <keyword id="1670029" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="globaldata" source="Orion">GlobalData</keyword> predicts that in the coming years, fewer new Covid-19 tests will be hitting the market; instead, existing tests will be improved. This could mean improving tests' specificity and sensitivity and creating multiparameter tests with existing technology.<br /><br />"Companies have reported decreasing sales of Covid-19 related products for the past two quarters. Therefore, having the Covid-19 pandemic declared over and instead an endemic virus, and with the emergency use authorisations on Covid-19 tests lifted, in vitro diagnostics (<keyword id="3175247" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ivd" source="Orion">IVD</keyword>) companies are scrambling to minimise their losses," said <keyword id="17367396" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="selena-yu" source="Orion">Selena Yu</keyword>, <keyword id="17367395" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="medical-analyst" source="Orion">Medical Analyst</keyword> at GlobalData, in a statement.<br /><br />In vitro diagnostics (IVD) are tests done on samples such as blood or tissue that have been taken from the human body.<br /><br />Currently, there are 132 active clinical trials, out of 310 trials on infectious disease IVD devices, developing Covid-19 tests.<br /><br />In January 2023, many companies involved in Covid-19 tests, like <keyword id="229225" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="danaher" source="Orion">Danaher</keyword>, <keyword id="48168" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="abbott" source="Orion">Abbott</keyword>, <keyword id="248095" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="labcorp" source="Orion">Labcorp</keyword>, and Becton, <keyword id="292392" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dickinson" source="Orion">Dickinson</keyword> and Company, also known as BD, made statements on their significant drops in Covid-19 tests.<br /><br />"Now that the pandemic has been announced to no longer be an emergency, the drops will become more significant in the coming months. Though the unit recovered in SoftBank's <a href="https://group.softbank/en/ir">most recent earnings release</a>, it reported $1.6 billion in losses.</p><p>The group recently made some winning investments to help right the ship however, including a $215 million bet on a Norwegian online-educational game platform called Kahoot and a $690 million stake in the Swedish cloud communications company Sinch.</p><p>Pacific Biosciences has had a remarkable run since July, with shares up 1,167%. New Delhi, March 25 () Lockdown across the country to curb the spread of coronavirus is resulting in drugs and medical devices not reaching the hospitals and consumers despite them being exempted by the government, industry players said on Wednesday.<p> Avoidable restrictions have been imposed by local police on the mobility of the citizens associated with the supply, distributions and transport of medicines, raw materials, components to make masks, sanitizers and other medical devices to the factories and manufacturing plants which are holding up production, adding to shortage, AiMeD Forum Coordinator Rajiv Nath said in a statement.</p><p> Pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers are also facing issues as some of the district administrations in various states/ UTs have incorrectly given directions to close the manufacturing operations in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry also as part of various measures to contain the spread of coronavirus, AiMeD said.</p><p> "We on behalf of the Indian Medical Device Industry appeal to local administration and police to recognise that medicines, raw materials, components to make masks, sanitizers and other medical devices like gloves, consumables, disposables, electronics, equipments, instruments, implants and IVD reagents are most essential healthcare delivery products at this critical hour of crisis," Nath said.</p><p> So, the authorities are requested to extend support and give free passage to the people in the supply chain of essential commodities to reach factories, manufacturing plants, among others, he added.</p><p> In this regard, the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) has written to the chief secretaries of all state/ UTs to review the matter and issue directions for treating these activities as essential services and also direct the authorities concerned to make necessary arrangements for issuance IDs/ entry pass so as to facilitate movements of the workers engaged in these essential activities.</p><p> "Further, in cases where inter-state movements of workers are involved, you may sort the matter with your counterpart in the state concerned, so that the pharma/ medical devices factories function without any hindrance," the letter said.</p><p> In similar vein, in a regulatory filing, Suven Pharmaceuticals said, "Even though pharma manufacturing is exempted from this lockdown situation, there are many obstacles which we are encountering, namely no movement of goods interstate nor intrastate."</p> This has caused a shortage of raw materials and prevented the company from being able to export finished products. To compound the situation, the government agencies at the seaports and airports are not operating to inspect and clear those finished goods, the letter by Suven Group of Companies Venkat Jasti to customers and shareholders said. It could be seen from San Diego to the San Francisco Bay Area. Reuters <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/11/07/us-california-airport-military-idUSKCN0SW0SN20151107#PFHqcWdeISiubIQu.97">reported</a> late Saturday afternoon that nighttime flights into and out of Los Angeles International Airport would be diverted away from airspace over the Pacific Ocean for precisely that reason.</p><p>The military and FAA usually do not disclose the nature of the exercises, and did not comment for Reuters, but the wire services reports that&#xa0;airspace over the Pacific Ocean was "activated" Friday night for the military activity. <p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><ul><li style="text-align: left;"><strong>A New York Times senior opinion editor published an op-ed arguing that yoga pants are bad for women.&#xa0;</strong></li><li style="text-align: left;"><strong>Women overwhelmingly did not agree.&#xa0;</strong></li></ul><p>&#xa0;</p><p>The New York Times published an op-ed slamming yoga pants - and people aren't too pleased with the publication.&#xa0;</p><p>On Sunday, The Times published an&#xa0;op-ed written by senior opinion editor Honor Jones with the headline:&#xa0;<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/17/opinion/sunday/yoga-pants-sweatpants-women.html">"Why Yoga Pants Are Bad for Women."</a>&#xa0;</p><p>"We may be able to conquer the world wearing spandex," Jones wrote. "But wouldn't it be easier to do so in pants that don't threaten to show every dimple and roll in every woman over 30?"&#xa0;</p><p>Overwhelmingly readers responded saying, no, in fact, life without yoga pants would not be easier.
