<keyword id="15935327" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ivan-manuel-menezes" source="Orion">Ivan Manuel Menezes</keyword>, the India-born CEO of the world's biggest spirits company <keyword id="6361490" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="diageo" source="Orion">Diageo</keyword>, died on Wednesday, days after the firm said he was hospitalised for treatment.<br /><br />Menezes, 64, who was to retire at the end of this month, was admitted to hospital for treatment of conditions, including a stomach ulcer, sources in know of the matter said.<br /><br />The reason for his death in London was not immediately known.<br /><br />Diageo had on Monday announced that CEO-designate <keyword id="16964426" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="debra-crew" source="Orion">Debra Crew</keyword> will assume the top role on an interim basis immediately as Menezes undergoes medical treatment.<br /><br />"Over the weekend, we learned that Ivan's recovery suffered a significant setback due to complications, which followed emergency surgery on the ulcer," Diageo had said in a statement.<br /><br />Pune-born Menezes, whose father Manuel Menezes was the chairman of Indian Railway Board, was educated at the prestigious St Stephen's College in Delhi and Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.<br /><br />Menezes joined Diageo in 1997 after its formation through the merger of Guinness and Grand Metropolitan. He rose quickly in the ranks to become an executive director in July 2012 and chief executive officer in July 2013. Ivan Menezes, India-born CEO of Johnnie Walker whisky's maker Diageo, passes away

Professional social networking platform <keyword id="28120" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="linkedin" source="Orion">LinkedIn</keyword> has introduced its identity verification feature for Indian users.<br /><br />"Having an ID verification means that the individual's government-issued ID is verified by one of LinkedIn's verification partners," Ashutosh Gupta, Country Manager at <keyword id="278010" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="linkedin-india" source="Orion">LinkedIn India</keyword>, said in a blogpost on Wednesday.<br /><br />In <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, HyperVerge, a third-party identity verification service which uses DigiLocker -- an online wallet for Indian government-issued IDs like the <keyword id="6356006" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="aadhaar-card" source="Orion">Aadhaar Card</keyword> -- handles ID verification.<br /><br />The ID verification is available for users with a valid Aadhaar number and an Indian phone number.<br /><br />"On LinkedIn, when you show that you're the real you, you'll have an even greater chance of finding the professional opportunities that matter to you and your community," Gupta said.<br /><br />He further mentioned that the platform does not have access to any sensitive data from the member's Aadhaar.<br /><br />"If you don't have an Aadhaar, you can still verify other information for use on LinkedIn using different methods. I am immensely proud of Diageo’s sustainability and responsibility achievements to date, and this new, ambitious action plan will challenge us even further to deliver more over the critical decade to 2030.”<br /><br />Highlights from the ‘SOCIETY 2030: SPIRIT OF PROGRESS' plan include:<br /><br /><strong>Promoting positive drinking</strong><br /><br />By 2030, Diageo will reach more than one billion people with messages of moderation from its brands; Will change the attitudes of five million drivers towards drink driving; and Will educate over 10 million people on the dangers of drinking underage through ‘SMASHED’, Diageo’s award-winning alcohol education awareness programme, now operating in every continent.<br /><br /><strong>Championing inclusion and diversity</strong><br /><br />Diageo will build on its strong track record of inclusion and diversity by setting an industry-leading ambition to have 45% representation of leaders from ethnically diverse backgrounds by 2030 as well as 50% of all leaders being women; and Diageo will also provide skills and training to over 1.7m people to help create an inclusive and thriving hospitality sector.<br /><br />Ivan Menezes continued: “By setting both gender and ethnicity goals for the business to achieve by 2030, I believe we can truly break down barriers and help shape a more diverse and successful long-term business and society.”<br /><br /><strong>Pioneering grain-to-glass sustainability<br /></strong><br />Diageo has committed to working towards a low-carbon future, harnessing 100% renewable energy to achieve net zero carbon emissions across direct operations and working with suppliers to reduce indirect carbon emissions by 50%; and As the first step in its net zero ambition, Diageo’s prestigious Scottish distilleries of Oban and Royal Lochnagar will both become carbon neutral by the end of 2020 and Diageo will aim to achieve net zero in India by 2025; and By 2030 Diageo will ensure that every drink it produces will take 30% less water to make than it does today and will achieve a net positive water impact in our key water stressed basins and communities; and It will also deliver over 150 community water projects across the world, including providing access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene; and Diageo will support over 150,000 smallholder farmers with farming techniques to regenerate the land and build biodiversity; and By 2030 ensure that the business is using 100% recycled content in plastic packaging and that 100% of Diageo’s packaging will be widely recyclable.<br /><br />Diageo has also launched Sustainable Solutions, a global platform that will provide non-equity funding to start-up and technology companies in order to help Diageo continue to embed sustainability in its supply chain and brands. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Xerox</span></p><p class="caption">Kathryn Mikells.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Xerox <keyword id="53346" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="CFO">CFO</keyword> Kathryn Mikells is stepping down. </p><p>The company announced on Monday that Mikells will be leaving to pursue another opportunity at Diageo PLC.</p><p>Diageo is known in North America for its popular adult beverages, which include Johnnie Walker whiskey, Smirnoff vodka, Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum, Guinness, and various other alcoholic drinks.</p><p>She will be replacing CFO Deirdre Mahlan, <span>who will become the president of Diageo's North American business.</span></p><p>Mikells has served as Xerox's CFO since May 2013. Previously she was the CFO of United Airlines from 2008 to 2010.</p><p>In a press release, Diageo CEO Ivan Menezes said, "<span>Kathryn has the experience of working with teams to drive disciplined performance management, which will contribute to the achievement of our performance ambition."</span></p><p><span>"We are starting to see the benefits of the changes we have put in place, and I am confident we are uniquely positioned to take advantage of this growth sector," he said.</span></p><p>Mahlan will step down from Diageo's board when Mikells takes over on November 9. Mahlan will return to America where she will focus on reviving the company's North American business. Mikells will be based in the company's London office. </p><p><span>"I am excited to join the Diageo team," <span>Mikells said</span>. "This is a unique opportunity to work for a company with leading consumer brands, unparalleled global reach, and the marketing and innovation agility to drive performance locally. Xerox CFO Kathryn Mikells is stepping down to take another job

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>REUTERS/Eduardo Munoz</span></p><p class="caption">A resident drinks whiskey from the bottle while in the sea at a beach in Boca Chica May 17, 2010.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Diageo, the alcohol giant behind the likes of Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, and Captain Morgan, is taking a big operating profit hit in emerging markets because of unfavourable foreign exchange rates.</p><p>The spirit giant, which also owns Guinness, <a href="http://www.investegate.co.uk/diageo-plc--dge-/rns/diageo-issues-trading-commentary-ahead-of-agm/201509230700078696Z/">put out a trading update ahead of its annual general meeting with shareholders on Wednesday</a> and warned that profits are going to be £150 million lower than last year.</p><p>Here's CEO Ivan Menezes:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">Our outlook for this financial year included the possibility that further currency weakness could impact demand for premium spirits in the emerging markets. Therefore while currencies are weaker in these markets, we continue to believe that stronger volume growth in F16 will lead to improved top line performance and that we can deliver modest organic margin improvement. Our reported results will be impacted by adverse exchange rate movements which at current rates will reduce operating profit for F16 by approximately £150 million against last year.</p><p>Menezes didn't break out which emerging markets Diageo is having currency troubles in but a fair guess would be China. China is a huge market for Diageo and the <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/here-comes-the-yuan-fix-2015-8">Chinese government cut the official exchange rate in August</a>.</p><p>Spirit makers have been having a tough time in China recently. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst</span></p><p class="caption">Obama's a fan.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Diageo, the alcohol giant behind the likes of Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, and Captain Morgan,<a href="http://www.investegate.co.uk/diageo-plc--dge-/rns/preliminary-results---year-ended-30-june-2015/201507300701045054U/"> just put out its full-year results</a> and one of the few bright spots is Guinness.</p><p>The iconic Irish stout has an association with history and heritage, but Diageo is trying to reinvent it as "innovative" - and the plan is working.</p><p>Here's Diageo:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span>Innovation remained a key performance driver with net sales up 30% [in this category], driven by successes such as 'The Brewers Project' which helped put Guinness back in growth in both Great Britain and Ireland.</span></p><p>"The Brewers Project at St James's Gate" is a branding and marketing campaign tied to the launch of new Guinness beers, all trying to make the Dublin brewery look like a "craft" beer maker of the type springing up across Britain right now.</p><p>Last year Guinness brought out its first new drinks in years in the <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword>, launching two porters and, most incredibly, a golden ale. Their success helped Diageo's beer sales rise 2% in Britain.</p><p>In North America too Guinness sales were up thanks to the launch of a Guinness branded Blonde American Lager.</p><p>All of this is in response to the rising tide of "craft" beer that's gaining in popularity across North America and the UK. Consumers are willing to spend more on more adventurous and complex styles of beer, but are less interested in "traditional" drinks.</p><p>While Diageo will be pleased with Guinness's performance in the west, sales declines in Africa and Asia mean globally sales fell by 2%.</p><p>That pretty much sums up performance across the whole company. Shares are down 0.18% 20 minutes after trade started in London.</p><p>CEO Ivan Menezes says in Thursday's results statement that the performance "reflects the challenges we have seen on top line growth" but says he's optimistic about the year ahead.</p>

Guinness' crazy plan to reinvent itself is actually working

And now with India-born Sundar Pichai becoming the CEO of Google, it has not only strengthened the fact but also given the 100 million plus citizens of this subcontinent an impeccable pride.<br />

Pichai has joined an elite league of over a dozen Indian origin persons holding top posts at global corporations with collective turnover of about $400 billion. <br />

The 43 year old CEO has joined the league of Indra Nooyi, Lakshmi Mittal, Ajay Banga, among many other Indian-origin persons at the helm at large conglomerates headquartered abroad. <br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, was the first to congratulate Pichai. Nadella tweeted on Pichai's elevation at the company, writing in the micro-blogging site "Congrats @sundarpichai well deserved." <br />
<br />
There are many other Indians heading the businesses at relatively smaller companies abroad, specially in IT sector, but at least 12 large companies have got India-born chief executives. <br />

These include Microsoft (Satya Nadella), PepsiCo (Indra Nooyi), ArcelorMittal (Lakshmi Mittal), Diageo (Ivan Menezes), Reckitt Benckiser (Rakesh Kapoor), MasterCard (Ajay Banga), DBS Group Holdings (Piyush Gupta), SanDisk (Sanjay Mehrotra), Global Foundries (Sanjay Jha), Cognizant (Francisco Dsouza) and Adobe (Shantanu Narayen). <br />

International magazine Time had termed CEOs as India's leading "export" and said that the subcontinent could be "the ideal training ground for global bosses". <br />

While Google reported a $66 billion revenue in 2014, Microsoft had recorded turnover of over $86 billion last year, PepsiCo's annual revenue stood at nearly $67 billion in 2014, ArcelorMittal's annual revenue stood at $79.26 billion, Diageo had $21 billion, Reckitt Benckiser $13.75 billion and SanDisk at $6.62 billion. <br />

In the past, giants like Citigroup, Vodafone, Motorola and Deutsche Bank have also had Indian-origin CEOs. <br />
<br />
Moreover, former Google Executive Nikesh Arora, who is currently President of Japanese telecom major SoftBank, is likely to be its next CEO as SoftBank's founder and chief executive Masayoshi Son has chosen Arora to be his successor. <br />
<br />
According to human resource experts, the significant rise of India-born executives at global companies can largely be attributed to the technical skills and the behavioural patterns which make them very much adaptable to any kind of situation they come across. <br />
<br />
Experts believe that Indians' focus on good education and ability to work in difficult situations are aiding to this rising trend and more and more Indians could rise to top positions at global companies in near future.<br />
