Conglomerate <keyword id="6357073" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="itc" source="Orion">ITC</keyword> on Friday said it will acquire a 16 per cent stake in <keyword id="6893485" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mother-sparsh" source="Orion">Mother Sparsh</keyword>, a D2C Ayurvedic and natural personal care brand, for Rs 20 crore through a share subscription agreement. Mother Sparsh is a premium Ayurvedic and natural personal care start-up in the D2C space, focusing on mother and baby care segments. "The said acquisition will, inter alia, enable access to the fast-growing direct to consumer (D2C) space in the 'personal care' category, which has been identified by the company as an area of interest," ITC said in a regulatory filing. This share acquisition is expected to be completed, in two tranches, within eight months from the date of execution of the Agreements. It will also be subject to completion of conditions and a shareholders' agreement in connection with the proposed acquisition, it added. Mother Sparsh, which was incorporated on February 5, 2016 had reported a turnover of Rs 15.44 crore in FY 2020-21. Commenting on the development ITC Chief Executive, Personal Care Products Business Sameer Satpathy said, "We believe that this investment provides an exciting opportunity which is in alignment with our aspiration to have a significant play both in the naturals and Ayurvedic segment as well as in the D2C channel." Mother Sparsh CEO Himanshu said, "ITC has been a frontrunner in developing a portfolio of vibrant FMCG brands and has been making giant strides in this space through a focus on innovation and digitalization. We believe that this partnership will provide a unique synergy of strengths to build our brand further." ITC has been focussing on the non-cigarette FMCG business over the past few years. ITC acquires a 10% stake in this mom-and-child care brand as it looks to hop onto the D2C train

Diversified conglomerate <keyword id="17969204" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="itcs-fmcg-business" source="Orion">ITC's FMCG business</keyword> has recorded a 21 % rise in annual consumer spend to nearly ₹29,000 crore in 2022-23, according to the latest annual report of the company. <keyword id="6357073" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="itc" source="Orion">ITC</keyword> operates in the FMCG space with 25 home-grown brands. The company measures annual consumer spend as the sum total of what the consumer spends on buying the goods of the company. It is the net sales turnover of the brands along with channel margins and taxes. "Your company's vibrant portfolio of over 25 world-class Indian brands, largely built through an organic growth strategy in a relatively short period of time, represents an annual consumer spend of nearly ₹29,000 crore and reaches over 230 million households in India," ITC said addressing its shareholders in the report. This is around 21% higher than the financial year 2021-22. In the last annual report, ITC said its FMCG business had an annual consumer spend of over ₹ 24,000 crore. In terms of distribution reach, ITC said in FY23 its products reached 230 million households, up from over 200 million households in FY22. In FY 2022-23, gross revenue from the sale of products and services stood at ₹69,480.89 crore, in which its cigarettes business contributed ₹28,206.83 crore and FMCG business was at ₹19,122.50 crore. Its ITC e-Store, a D2C platform, is now operational in 24,000+ pin codes and continues to receive excellent consumer response. The company operates in the food space with brands such as Aashirvaad, Bingo, Sunfeast, and YiPPee, while in the personal care, it has brands such as Fiama, Vivel, Savlon etc. ITC is well poised to address value-added adjacencies and categories of the future by leveraging the 25 powerful mother brands it has established over the years. "Recent examples of such brand extensions include Aashirvaad to Dairy, Ready-to-Eat, Vermicelli, Salt and Spices; Sunfeast to Dairy Beverages and Cakes; Bingo to Namkeens; ITC Master Chef to Frozen Snacks and Cooking pastes; Classmate to Writing instruments; Savlon to Sanitisers, Wipes and Disinfectant sprays etc," it said. Besides the domestic market, ITC FMCG business also continues to expand its export footprint, with a reach now spanning over 60 countries. In personal care, the company witnessed a surge in inflation, which led to moderation in demand, especially in rural markets. However, progressive improvement was witnessed during the course of the year, said ITC. Sensex fell by 133.6 points or 0.2% while Nifty slipped by 26 points or 0.13% as of 9:43 am on Friday, keeping up with Thursday’s losing streak. The slip in the benchmarks is following the slump in the global markets. The Dow Jones, S&amp;P500 and the Nasdaq all closed over 0.5% in the red. India’s Asian peers in China and Japan are also trading in the red at the time of publishing. The market is delicately poised with strong headwinds and some tailwinds, say analysts. The headwinds come from the US 10-year yield rising sharply to 4%, the dollar index rising to 101.7, Brent crude rising above $83 and FPIs selling <keyword id="6354298" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="stocks" source="Orion">stocks</keyword> for ₹3,979 crore in the cash market on Thursday. “While these strong headwinds can impact the market, support can come from the strong US second quarter GDP number of 2.4%. Since the ongoing global rally,led by the mother market US, is primarily driven by the US soft landing narrative, this data can provide some support when the market turns weak,” said Vijayakumar. On Thursday, benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty crashed by 0.6% each — and by 440 points or 118 points, respectively. Investors had pared exposure to bellwethers like HDFC Bank Nestle and Reliance Industries amid a mixed trend in global markets. The Fed’s interest rate hike failed to boost sentiments in the domestic market, which saw a steep decline led by banking and auto stocks, traders said. The stocks to watch would be Indian Oil and Marico which will declare their Q1 earnings today. ACC and Indian Hotels will be in focus too after their earnings reports on Thursday. Limited upside potential? Most of the investors on Thursday were on a profit booking mode. Bank Nifty came under pressure after the Fed went for a 25 basis point hike. “The Bank Nifty index experienced a day of monthly expiry dominated by the bears, as they were in full control and overwhelmed the bulls in the market. This indicates that many traders had placed call options at this level, anticipating limited upside potential for the index,” said Kunal Shah, senior technical &amp; derivative analyst at LKP Securities. Shrikant Chouhan, head of research (retail), Kotak Securities says that realty and pharma shares were in the limelight after the recent correction. “Many investors are not comfortable with the current valuations, and hence are redeeming their investment on every possible opportunity," he added. A few analysts also believe that there is value in sectors like auto, tech and healthcare in spite of the recent market rally. “Headline valuations in India look expensive. However, certain sectors are still attractive, and would require a bottom-up stock picking to create alpha for investors,” said a report by InCred Asset Management. “Investors have to be careful chasing small-caps which are in overvalued territory. Large-caps, even when richly valued, are safe unlike risky small-caps. Pharma is staging a comeback and there is value-buying happening in beaten down metal stocks,” said Dr V K Vijayakumar, chief investment strategist at Geojit Financial Services. M&amp;M was the biggest loser in the Sensex chart on Thursday, slumping 6.39% after it announced that it invested in RBL Bank. It was followed by Tech Mahindra, Nestle India, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank, ITC, JSW Steel, HDFC Bank and RIL. New Delhi, Mar 4 () Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies are ramping up their production and optimising distribution channels to meet the rising demand for hand sanitizers amid the coronavirus outbreak. Some FMCG firms are also educating consumers by engaging their brands to communicate with the consumers, through special campaigns on digital and mainstream media, to make them aware about the benefits of regular hands wash as prevention for coronavirus. The companies have assured that they have enough stocks to tackle the situation. "We have ramped up our production capacity. We are also trying to ramp up through our vendors also," Godrej Consumer Products Ltd CEO (India and SAARC) Sunil Kataria told . However, he also added that hand santizers are premium products in India. "The way we have to address this problem is through that we all need to communicate the right education to the people and send messages to the consumers that best precaution and prevention from coronavirus is regularly washing hands," he added. GCPL, which had Godrej Protekt brand in the segment, has started a digital campaign to create awareness about it. ITC, which is present in the segment through its brand Savlon, said it is ensuring that there is an adequate supply of hygiene products in the market. "ITC is ensuring adequate supply of Savlon hygiene products in the market. Savlon continues to focus on enhancing awareness about hand hygiene and urges consumers to maintain good hygiene practices," according to an ITC spokesperson. FMCG major HUL, which is present in the segment with Lifebuoy hand sanitizers, is also ensuring its products' availability to the consumers. "Given the surge in demand for hygiene products, we have redoubled our efforts to ensure that consumers have access to products that keep them safe such as Lifebuoy hand sanitizers and hand wash," said an HUL spokesperson. While Dabur is running a series of awareness campaigns across digital platforms and social and mainstream media to educate the public about how to keep themselves safe from coronavirus. "Our key healthcare brands such as Dabur Chyawanprash, ImmunoDab and Giloy Ghanvati are running informative campaigns to drive awareness about staying protected from such illnesses," said Dabur India Marketing Head (Healthcare) Mukesh Mishra. Mishra also said the company is also organising a question-and-answer session, particularly for mothers, with ayurvedic doctors on digital media platforms to address their queries regarding coronavirus and how to keep their families protected from it.
