<ul><li><keyword id="6356755" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-Madras" source="Orion">IIT Madras</keyword> has developed a new <keyword id="16821" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="touchscreen" source="Orion">touchscreen</keyword> technology that enables users to feel the texture of images.</li><li>This new technology, ‘<keyword id="15280496" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="itad" source="Orion">iTad</keyword>’ uses an in-built multitouch sensor that detects finger movement and surface friction.</li><li>Earlier, a Japanese professor developed a lickable TV screen that can imitate food flavours.</li></ul>Researchers at the <keyword id="542865" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indian-institute-of-technology-madras" source="Orion">Indian Institute of Technology Madras</keyword> have claimed to develop a new touchscreen display technology that allows users to feel the texture of images as their finger goes across the touch surface. Currently, touchscreens can only sense the position of one’s fingers but offer no feedback. This new technology is known as iTad - (interactive Touch Active Display), and it can mimic textures such as gritty surfaces and crisp edges. It is the next generation of in-touch display technology, said IIT Madras. There are no moving parts in iTad; however, it has an in-built multitouch sensor that detects finger movement and surface friction and adjusts via software. Further, to make this work, electric fields in the touchscreen are controlled via a physical phenomenon known as 'electroadhesion’. According to a lead researcher and a professor in the department of Applied Mechanics, M.Manicannan, this technology can take online shopping to the next level as we can touch and feel things before we buy them, especially clother. Also, around 30 percent of product returns are due to the mismatch of user experience. Their expectations are different by looking at the images online. To advance this technology, IIT Madras has collaborated with <keyword id="4867692" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="merkel-haptics" source="Orion">Merkel Haptics</keyword>, a start-up housed at the IIT Madras research park. CEO of Merkel Haptics, PV Padmapriya, said, “The prototype from Touchlab can be made into a product in a year. We aim to make a small device, similar to a computer mouse, on everyone's desk to add to the experience. We have been field testing and providing valuable feedback to the researchers at IIT-M on improving the functionality of the technology." Hyderabad, Apr 14 (): NMDC Ltd's Donimalai Iron OreMines Complex is distributing food to police personnel, ASHAworkers and paramedical staff at Ballari district in Karnatakaas part of the ongoing fight to check coronavirus spread, thestate-owned miner said on Tuesday.NMDC has tied up with the Akshaya Patra Foundation forthis "Annadanam" initiative through which over 35,000personnel who were involved in the containment activities weredistributed free food, an official release said.The personnel are provided wholesome breakfast, lunchand dinner from April 1 and is being done on a continuousbasis, NMDC said."The Donimalai Iron Ore Mines Complex of NMDC isalways at the forefront of this exercise and had earliercontributed Rs 60 lakh to the District Administration, Ballarifor implementation of improved treatment and preventivemeasures at the District Hospital, now designated as a COVID-19 Hospital," it said.NMDC has also taken up sanitation drives inresidential areas, public buildings, market places, hospitalsand RO (Reverse Osmosis) plants, among others atthe NMDCDonimalaiTownship, and surrounding areas at Ballari, itadded. Ahmedabad, Apr 18 () The Gujarat Cooperative MilkMarketing Federation (GCMMF), the owner of 'Amul' brand,said on Saturday that it is procuring 15 per cent more milkthan year ago at 255-260 lakh litres per day.While the sale of milk pouches, flavoured milk and icecream was down due to lockdown, milk procurement had increasedbecause it was also buying milk from private milk producers,the federation said.The sale of paneer and ghee had also increased, itadded.The quantity of milk sold in pouches has fallen from140 lakh litres per day in March 2020 to 125 lakh litres inApril, mainly because hotels and catering firms have closed,GCMMF said in a release.Migration of urban population to rural areas has alsoaffected the sale of pouched milk, it said.The sale of ice cream and flavoured milk has decreasedby as much as 85 and 70 per cent, respectively, compared tothe same period last year, it said.On the other hand, sale of paneer, ghee, butter andmilk sold in tetrapack has gone up by 15-50 per cent, theGCMMF said. "Milk procurement at around 255-260 lakh litres perday is around 15 per cent more compared to the same month lastyear," the release said."Amul milk cooperatives are also procuring milk fromprivate milk producers as per the direction of the government.Collection has also increased as private businesses and sweetshops cannot run their operations during lockdown," it said.To handle increased supply, the GCMMF has rented milkprocessing plants outside Gujarat, it said.It has asked its member milk farmers to takeprecautions to avoid coronavirus infection, the federationsaid. Hyderabad, Mar 23 (): Kia Motors India indefinitelysuspended all its operations with immediate effect and thecompany's manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh and companyoffice premises will stop functioning until further notice inview of the coronavirus concerns, the Korean automaker said ina statement on Monday."In view of the unprecedented situation arising out ofthe spread of COVID-19 and keeping in mind the safety andwell-being of all our consumers, employees, workers, partners,and associates pan India, Kia Motors India has decided tosuspend all its operations with immediate effect.With this, company's manufacturing facility inAnantapur (Andhra Pradesh) and company office premises willstop functioning until further notice," it said. Kia said all its dealerships remain on call and areavailable to customers for all their requirements via alldigital channels and it is also ensuring deliveries are notdelayed for eager customers as well as service requirementsare also being attended to, without compromising on strongsafety precautions. Kia Motors India will continue to closely monitor thesituation and ensure the best interests of everyone associatedwith its operations in the country, it said.Company will also remain connected with allauthorities concerned and administration and will extend allpossible cooperation and assistance, as and when required, itadded.When contacted, Anantapur Collector Ganbdham Chandrudusaid the district administration has communicated about the APgovernments lockdown orders till March 31."They (Kia management) have been intimated about thelockdown and they are complying with it," the official said.According to him, eight Korean nationals working forthe company who have come to the plant during February werealso put under home quarantine as a safety measure, though notrequired.The facility currently employs 10,000 people.Kia Motors India's wholesales in February stood at15,644 units.
