Launching the second phase of RuPay card, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced that India will soon be sending Bhutanese satellite to space.<br /><br />"India opened its space sector for private enterprises. It will boost innovation, capacity and skills. ISRO will be sending Bhutan's satellite next year and work on that is progressing fast," He said.<br /><br />"Like other Indians I have great love and friendship with Bhutan, when I meet you all its like meeting our own," Prime Minister told the Bhutanese audience on the occasion. <br /><br />"The relation between India and Bhutan is important and best example for the world," the prime minister added.<br /><br />He said he is happy that 11,000 transaction took place through RuPay card in Bhutan, and if the Covid pandemic would not have hit the volume could have been greater.<br /><br />"From my visit to Bhutan, in the phase-1 of RuPay card launch, till now, 11,000 successful RuPay transactions have taken place in Bhutan. Today with the launch of phase-2, we welcome Bhutan as a full-time partner in the RuPay network," Modi said.<br /><br />Prime Minister along with Bhutan Prime Minister had launched the first phase of RuPay card last year during his visit.<br /><br />Prime Minister of Bhutan lauded Modi's efforts in tackling the pandemic.<br /><br />"The Excellency's (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) leadership in tackling the pandemic at home is highly commended," Lotay Tshering said.<br /><br />"I am sure India will come out much stronger from the pandemic. ISRO to launch satellite for Bhutan next year and train four Bhutanese space engineers

<ul><li><keyword id="10730402" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-space-startup-agnikul">Indian space startup Agnikul</keyword> Cosmos has become the world’s first company to successfully test a fully <keyword id="3176690" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="3D-printed-rocket-engine">3D printed rocket engine</keyword>.</li><li>It only takes four days to produce and can carry payloads of upto 100 kilos into lower earth orbit (LEO).</li><li>While the first company to be successful in such an endeavour, there are others who are fast catching up and realise the value of 3D printed engines versus conventional assembly.</li></ul>Rocket engines are tough to build, and they’re even tougher to 3D print because all the details have to be ‘just right’ for the rocket to work successfully. But, an <keyword id="10031551" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-space-startup">Indian space startup</keyword> based out of Chennai has pulled off this mammothian task. <br /><br /><keyword id="7122982" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="agnikul-cosmos">Agnikul Cosmos</keyword> has successfully fired its higher stage semi-cryogenic <keyword id="413298" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rocket-engine">rocket engine</keyword> called Agnilet. “This entire engine, Agnilet, is just one piece of hardware from start to finish and has zero assembled parts,” said co-founder and CEO Srinath Ravichandran.<br /><br /><div type="javascript" title="Custom" contenttype="Video"><cdata><![CDATA[]]></cdata></div><br />Normally, rocket engines have 100s of different parts that have to be built individually. This includes things like injectors which inject fuel into the engine, cooling channels that ensure the engine doesn’t overheat and the igniter which actually kindles propellants to push the rocket off the ground.<br /><br />Agnilet, on the other hand, is a three-in-one solution. It takes all three of these modules and puts them into a single piece of hardware. There is no complex assembly and the turnaround time for the entire setup is less than four days. <br /><br />The rocket engine is capable of carrying upto 100 kilos to low earth orbit (LEO), which is around 700 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. That’s only a fraction of what the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) is capable of and possibly only enough to carry a single satellite at most.<br /><br /><strong>Agnikul may be the first to be successful, but it’s not alone<br /></strong>Agnikul was the first <keyword id="3081463" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-space">Indian space</keyword> startup to enter into a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with the Department of Space (DoS) under the newly established Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe).<br /><br /><div type="image" title="Agnilet - Agnibaan’s higher stage semicryogenic engine(1)" msid="80763882" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Agnilet - Agnibaan’s higher stage semicryogenic engine&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />Another space startup that’s hot its heels is Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace founded by former Indian Space Research Organisation (<keyword id="6358064" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro">ISRO</keyword>) scientists Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka. In September last year, they too revealed their fully 3D printer cryogenic rocket engine dubbed Dhawan-I. <br /><br />Dhawan-I will be used to power the Vikram-II rocket, which Skyroot is also building from scratch. <br /><br />The startup entered an NDA with the DoS earlier this month on February 2. They will be able to use ISRO’s test and launch facilities to test their Vikram-I rocket and eventually Dhawan-I as well. <br /><br />The global space industry is expected to generate $1.1 trillion or more by 2040, according to <a href="https://www.morganstanley.com/ideas/investing-in-space">Morgan Stanley</a> — more than triple its current value of $350 billion. And, new space engine technology like 3D printed rocket engines are expected to play a big role in this explosion of value.<br /><br />But even international players like Elon Musk’s SpaceX, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), <a href="https://3dprint.com/278184/startup-accelerator-ursa-major-is-3d-printing-rocket-engines-to-grow-space-economy/">Ursa Major</a> and Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin are only 3D printing components for rocket engines. Indian space startup fires world’s first fully 3D printed rocket engine as others play catch up

The Indian Space Research Organisation (<keyword id="6358064" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="isro" source="Orion">ISRO</keyword>) and <keyword id="10387" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="microsoft" source="Orion">Microsoft</keyword> on Thursday announced a collaboration to fuel the growth of space technology startups in the country.<br /><br />Through this tie-up, the space tech startups identified by ISRO will be on-boarded onto the 'Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub' platform, which supports startups at every stage of their journey from idea to unicorn.<br /><br />"ISRO's collaboration with Microsoft will greatly benefit space tech startups in their analysis and processing of vast amounts of satellite data for various applications, using cutting-edge methods like AI, Machine Learning and <keyword id="2144645" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="deep-learning" source="Orion">Deep Learning</keyword>," said <keyword id="2618685" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="s-somanath" source="Orion">S Somanath</keyword>, Chairman of ISRO.<br /><br />Through 'Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub', space-tech startup founders in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> will have free access to the tech tools, and resources they need to build and run their businesses.<br /><br />This includes technical support to build and scale on Azure, best-in-class developer and productivity tools including GitHub Enterprise, Visual Studio Enterprise and Microsoft 365 and access to smart analytics with Power BI and Dynamics 365.<br /><br />"Through our technology tools, platforms and mentorship opportunities, we are deeply committed to empowering space tech startups in the country to drive cutting-edge innovation and accelerate scientific discovery," said Anant Maheshwari, President of Microsoft India.<br /><br />Microsoft will also provide mentoring support to space tech entrepreneurs in areas ranging from space engineering to cloud technologies, product and design, fundraising and sales and marketing.<br /><br />In addition, founders will have access to Microsoft Learn for tailored startup-centric training content and programmes to help them build connections with the industry and potential customers, said the tech giant.<br /><br />Microsoft and ISRO will also jointly organise knowledge-sharing and thought leadership sessions for the startups with space industry experts.<br /><br />The government has opened up the space sector for private players. Microsoft join hands with ISRO to empower spacetech startups in India

The <keyword id="9387733" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="first-unmanned-test-flight">first unmanned test flight</keyword> of Indian rocket <keyword id="502946" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Geosynchronous-Satellite-Launch-Vehicle">Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle</keyword> (GSLV), as part of the country's human space mission Gaganyaan, will not happen this year, said officials.<br /><br /><keyword id="4491776" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">The Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword> (<keyword id="6358064" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro">ISRO</keyword>) had planned the first of the two test flights later this year.<br /><br />"The first flight of the rocket as part of <keyword id="6827364" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gaganyaan-mission">Gaganyaan mission</keyword> will not happen this year (2020)," a senior ISRO official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told IANS.<br /><br />While the actual reason for the delay is not known, perhaps the Covid-19 lockdown had its impact on the first test flight.<br /><br />In his address at the 70th Annual General Meeting and National Conference on "Recent Developments in Aerospace and Defence Technology" organised by Aeronautical Society of India in February, ISRO chief K. Sivan had said that the "design and engineering of the launch vehicle and orbital module system for India's human space flight has been completed. <br /><br /><ul><li>The European ‘RemoveDEBRIS’ experiment launched a harpoon that successfully captured space trash last Friday. </li><li>The mission, led by Guglielmo Aglietti, is the only one the world that focusing on cleaning up outer space. </li><li>But space debris isn’t only a problem for Europe but also other countries that are gearing up to launch more satellites into space.</li></ul>Space debris is a burgeoning concern in the face of <keyword id="435085" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="space-travel">space travel</keyword> but a European experiment led by a team of British engineers is on a mission to solve this crisis. <br /><br />The program, led by University of Surrey’s Guglielmo Aglietti, on Friday shot a harpoon at a satellite panel and hit the bulls eye — kind of like an outer space trash stick. <br /><br />The harpoon was fired from the RemoveDEBRIS satellite — meant to clean up junk that launched on board the SpaceX Falcon rocket in April last year. Europe is setting an example on how to clean up outer space — using a harpoon

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Flying is the safest mode of transportation, but some airports are more dangerous than others.</li><li>Mountains, unpredictable weather, short runways, and poor infrastructure can make flying more difficult.</li></ul><p>Sometimes, it's okay to clap when a plane lands.</p><p>Despite the common fear of flying, air travel is the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/secret-hidden-airplane-safety-features-2019-12">safest</a> mode of transportation with tens of thousands of planes journeying across the globe every day, and the odds of being in a major commercial accident are extremely low — about one in six million, according to the International Air Transport Association's 2022 safety <a href="https://www.iata.org/en/pressroom/2023-releases/2023-03-07-01/">report</a>.</p><p>In fact, the report revealed there were just five fatal accidents among 32.2 million commercial flights in 2022. <p dir="ltr">Raptopoulos' vision for Matternet first hit him when he was attending <a href="http://singularityu.org/" target="_blank">Singularity University</a>, a non-traditional, future-focused school that aims to empower its students to apply "exponential technologies to address humanity's grand challenges."</p>
<p dir="ltr">Working as part of a larger team, Raptopoulos got hung up on the fact that one-seventh of the Earth's population lacked access to all-seasons roads and that developing a traditional, reliable transportation infrastructure in those places would take crazy amounts of money and upwards of 50 years.</p>
<p dir="ltr">He took a map of Africa and overlaid an internet-like network onto it. If he could build machines that could carry cargo short distances, each trip would be small, but the scale could be incredible. He says he got chills:  </p>

<p dir="ltr">Matternet's plan is to create a full stack product, handling both the hardware and the software themselves, while simultaneously making sure to stay abreast of every new legal hurdle in the drone space.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Right now, the FAA bans the use of commercial drones, but it is supposed to release rules for small drones under 55 pounds later this year, in line with its complete plan for "safe integration" of commercial drones by September 2015. Meanwhile, a team at NASA led by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nasa-drone-traffic-management-system-2014-9" target="_blank">Dr. Parimal Kopardekar is developing a drone traffic management program</a> of its own to advise the FAA.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Matternet is one of the many UAV-focused companies that has met with Kopardekar's NexGen technology team to discuss different ways to provide a structure to drone traffic.</p>
<p dir="ltr">The startup plans to announce its first product in the first quarter of 2015, and start shipping a few months later. The goal is to have concrete agreements wi<span>th the likes of Doctors Without Borders and <span>the </span><a href="http://qz.com/245961/a-revolutionary-drone-based-delivery-network-is-being-tested-in-bhutan/" target="_blank">World Health Organization, which it tested with in Bhutan</a>, by the time Matternet's UAVs get launched. <span>Raptopolous couldn't name a concrete price point, but guesses that the Matternet system will go for between $2,000 and $5,000. </span></span></p>
<p dir="ltr">By launching in areas like Papua New Guinea and Bhutan - where its drones are sometimes flying over swaths of jungle or sparsely populated desert and where there isn't a strict existing aerial infrastructure - Matternet has fewer barriers to entry.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><span>"The risk needs to be low if the UAV falls," NASA's Kopardekar tells Business Insider, noting that low-density areas make the most sense for drone testing and operations. "You need to be able to demonstrate the risk is very low and the benefits are high: That's where you will see implementation happening."</span></p>
<p dir="ltr">Although Raptopoulos landed upon the idea for Matternet because of a motivation to provide a transportation solution to parts of the world that lack access to all-season roads, the company has its sights set beyond humanitarian causes. He's phenomenal because he understands, 'Hey, if we get this at scale and we can do this in the US and we become a big company, we can use all this as a force of good to do even more in the world.'"</p>

"He is a true visionary who is always motivated by fundamentally changing the world. But he's very practical in the near term what's required to get things done. <p dir="ltr">Finette agrees: Raptopoulos and Santana dream big, but know how to actually move steadily forward. He laughs recalling how nonchalantly the team will talk about passing amazing, major milestones.  </p>
<p dir="ltr">"They talk about it as if it's nothing," he says. That speaks to their capacity as entrepreneurs, he says, because they understand that every achievement is just a small stepping stone towards the big idea. </p>

<p dir="ltr"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"I think Andreas is a beautiful, bi-focal CEO," says Belani from Alchemist. "He is a true visionary who is always motivated by fundamentally changing the world. But he's very practical in the near term what's required to get things done. He's not a head-in-the-</span>clouds type of visionary. He's incredibly practical with a strong street sense of business."</p>
<p dir="ltr">Finette agrees: Raptopoulos and Santana dream big, but know how to actually move steadily forward. He laughs recalling how nonchalantly the team will talk about passing amazing, major milestones.  </p>
<p dir="ltr">"They talk about it as if it's nothing," he says. That speaks to their capacity as entrepreneurs, he says, because they understand that every achievement is just a small stepping stone towards the big idea. </p>
<p dir="ltr"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Right now, Matternet's drones weigh well under 5 kilograms, can carry cargo over 0.5 kilograms, and fly over 25 kilometers on a battery charge. Their geo-fenced routes take into consideration weather data and terrain. They are equipped with cameras to help them navigate onto landing pads at their destinations. The entire system gets controlled by a smartphone app. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Raptopoulos calls it the "Apple II" of the drone industry: the "most easy to use, desirable, and safest personal flying vehicle" out there. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Not that Matternet is the only company trying to achieve that. Besides giants like Amazon and Google, there are other delivery drone companies out there, like <a href="http://www.gizmag.com/bizzby-trials-peer-drone-delivery-service/34636/" target="_blank">Bizzby</a> and <a href="http://aria-logistics.com/" target="_blank">Aria</a>. </p>
<p dir="ltr">"<span id="docs-internal-guid-849d2368-8b5f-6f00-d8b1-56e41164cfa3">A drone delivery network will be the most disruptive thing to hit the delivery space," says Brody Buhler, partner at consulting firm Accenture, who focuses on postal issues. "I<span id="docs-internal-guid-849d2368-8b5f-ce09-b3a9-0e249589bcdc">f you don't have drones on your five-year roadmap, you're probably too far out."</span></span></p>
<p dir="ltr">Talking to Raptopoulos, that future feels even closer. He gets almost electrically bright-eyed when he talks about the moments he's had on trials in the Himalayas or Papua New Guinea. But his passion really radiates off him when he talks about what's yet to come.</p>
<p dir="ltr">"<span id="docs-internal-guid-d8e48bdb-8b66-4458-ef6f-8474a19eb6a8">I'm going to keep on having these 'pinch me' moments," he says. "When we see our first big deployment in a city. When I'm able to see 20-30 crafts doing routine missions. When I'm able to actually see our drones in the sky and nobody will be paying attention, because they're just an establishment. And we can't wait."<br /></span></p>
