It is located about 500 meters away from the designated landing site. But, rather than landing in an upright position, the lander is 'tilted', according to the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/pictures-of-moon-and-earth-by-chandrayaan-2-lander-and-orbiter/articleshow/71015068.cms">image captured</a> by the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/chandrayaan-2s-orbiter-has-seven-and-a-half-years-to-scan-the-surface-of-the-moon/articleshow/71027327.cms">orbiter</a>'s Terrain Mapping Camera-2 (<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/Indias-second-mission-to-the-moon-will-use-these-14-high-tech-instruments-to-look-for-water/Terrain-Mapping-Camera-2-TMC-2/slideshow/69868222.cms">TMC-2</a>). "The lander is there as a single piece, not broken into pieces. It's in a tilted position," an official from ISRO told <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/isro-not-losing-hope-continues-to-make-all-out-efforts-to-restore-link-with-lander-vikram/articleshow/71045854.cms">PTI</a>. Can't move the lander With other spacecrafts, it's possible to reorient them. Vikram, on the other hand, has <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/moon-landing-drama-play-by-play-of-isro-losing-communication-with-chandrayaan-2s-lander/articleshow/71018307.cms">already landed</a> and there's no way to get it back off the ground. "It must have been a hard landing," <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/chandrayaan-2s-lander-vikram-found-on-the-moon-but-isro-suspects-hard-landing/articleshow/71035718.cms">ISRO Chairman K Sivan</a> told reporters on Sunday. But ISRO isn't ruling out the possibility of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/chandrayaan-2-fails-in-the-final-seconds-of-descent-to-moons-south-pole/articleshow/71018196.cms">establishing communications</a> with Vikram. They just need the antennas onboard the lander to either point towards the ground station or the orbiter in order to send or receive signals. "Such operation is extremely difficult. At the same time, chances are good and we will have to keep our fingers crossed," stated the ISRO official. On a 14 day deadline ISRO has 14 days to re-establish contact with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/everything-you-need-to-know-about-vikram-chandrayaan-2s-lander-as-it-lands-on-the-moon/articleshow/71008396.cms">Vikram</a> before the lunar night sets in for another 14 days. The longer they wait, the higher the probability of losing Vikram altogether. The reason being that Vikram is primarily powered using solar panels. Without the sun to generate energy, the lander won't be able to operate. Vikram has internal batteries as well, but they're reportedly "not used much". The lander being knocked out also bears bad news for its payloads and the rover, Pragyaan, which is currently boxed up inside Vikram. Pragyaan can only exclusively send signals to the lander, which has the capability to relay information back to Earth. Hence, loss of communication with the lander automatically implies loss of communication with Pragyaan. ISRO has 14 days to contact Chandrayaan 2's 'tilted' but intact lander

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Indian+Space+Research+Organization+%28ISRO%29+">Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)</a> has given us many reasons to celebrate in the past, and it is back once again with good news. The space agency is going to help the US, which is self-sufficient in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=space+technology">space technology</a>, launch its satellite from India’s launch pad at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Sriharikota">Sriharikota</a>. The US is the 20th country seeking India’s help for launching its satellite; <keyword id="6358064" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="ISRO">ISRO</keyword> scientists have earlier launched 45 satellites for 19 countries. 
 
However, what really makes this news special is that India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle will push the US satellite into the orbit. Besides this, other three major ISRO accomplishments this year had been: 
 
1) 100 days of Mangalyaan: Remember <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mangalyaan">Mangalyaan</a>? It entered the Red Planet’s orbit on September 24, 2014 after a 666-million-km journey from Earth in over 10 months, and made India the first country to taste success in its maiden <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mars+mission">Mars mission</a>. The satellite sent to Mars was none other than Mangalyaan, which successfully completed 100 days on January 1, 2015. It is still in the pink of its health and is busy collecting scientific data. 
 
 
 
2) Launch of India's 4th navigational satellite: ISRO successfully launched a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=navigation+satellite+">navigation satellite</a> using the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) from Sriharikota on March 28, 2015. It will help the country to have its own version of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Global+Positioning+System">Global Positioning System</a> (<keyword id="6362652" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="100" keywordseo="GPS">GPS</keyword>), useful in everyday life for navigation. Having an accuracy of less than 20 meters, this system is comparable to the best in the world. 
 
 
 
3) ISRO launches five British satellites: On July 11, 2015, Indian scientists successfully launched five British satellites into the orbit from Sriharikota. Britain not only rented premium space from ISRO but also hired a rocket for the first time. The total weight of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=British+satellites+">British satellites</a> is 1,440 kg, making this the heaviest commercial launch ever to be undertaken by India. 
 
 
 
The Indian space agency is now busy preparing for the launch of GSLV-Mark-II, probably around August 27. According to an official, the 2.1-tonne capacity GSLV-Mark-II would carry a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=communication+">communication</a> satellite. It would also launch seven other satellites by March 2016. And if all goes well, the Indian space agency might start its mission to Venus by end of this year.

India failed in its attempt to be the 4th country to make a soft landing on the the moon when its lander crashed on the lunar surface

After security alarm was raised surrounding the news that the website of <keyword id="6358064" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="ISRO">ISRO</keyword>'s commercial arm <keyword id="553564" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Antrix-Corporation-Limited">Antrix Corporation Limited</keyword> was hacked, ISRO officials said the problem occurred due to a purposeful attempt by someone to link the home page to another page. 

	"It appears that the Antrix website has not been hacked, but might have been a purposeful attempt by someone who linked the home page to another page," the ISRO official told PTI.

	The website of Antrix was reportedly hacked yesterday and thereafter the work to fix the problem was taken up by Antrix officials and it was blocked immediately. 
 

	"The problem is there but there should not be any cause of worry because the website does not contain sensitive data which could be detrimental for India's security," he said. 
 

	Asked if it was an internal or international attempt to cause damage, he said, "We still cannot say who that someone is. Investigations are on." 
 

	The official added that the attempt to link the homepage to other page could be to gain popularity. The probe is on, or could be for some other reason. 
 Damage to Antrix website comes two days after ISRO successfully launched five British commercial satellites on board <keyword id="2933085" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="PSLV-C28">PSLV-C28</keyword> from Sriharikota in its heaviest commercial mission.

Antrix website not hacked, damage done purposefully

Sarabhai is called the father of India’s space programme, after he established the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1962. ‘Not a fantasy’ Ever since, many things related to space are named after him. in 1973, India named a cavity on the moon in his honour with the name ‘Vikram’. The lander which will drop Chandrayaan-2 onto the moon on September 7, is also called Vikram. Sarabhai has chalked the strategy of ISRO early on, too. "There are some who question the relevance of space activities in a developing nation. To us, there is no ambiguity of purpose. We do not have the fantasy of competing with the economically advanced nations in the exploration of the moon or the planets or manned space-flight,” he had said. C.V. Raman’s protege Sarabhai was born on 12 August 1919 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He studied from University of Cambridge with a major in science. He later joined the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore and began research in cosmic rays under the guidance of Nobel winner Sir C.V. Raman. "To us there is no ambiguity of purpose. We are convinced that if we are to play a meaningful role nationally and in the comity of nations, we must be second to none in the application of advanced technologies to the real problems of man and society," news agency IANS reported citing Vikram’s statement. At the age of 28, he established the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad. He had then set up the first rocket launching station in India. In 1966, he was awarded with Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, six years later. He was also Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission. Along with other Ahmedabad-based industrialists, he played a major role in the creation of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Google Doodle is celebrating Vikram Sarabhai’s 100th birthday — the father of Indian space programme

Bengaluru, State-run <keyword id="7803427" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="NewSpace-India">NewSpace India</keyword> Ltd (NSIL), the commercial arm of the space department, bagged orders to launch four foreign satellites for earth observation from <keyword id="6355143" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sriharikota">Sriharikota</keyword> spaceport in Andhra Pradesh, a top official said on Friday. "We have signed contracts with four foreign customers to launch four satellites in the earth's lower orbit using the PSLV and SSLV rockets of the Indian space agency <keyword id="6358064" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro">ISRO</keyword> (<keyword id="116095" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword>) from its spaceport at Sriharikota," NSIL Chairman G. Narayanan told reporters here. The top official, however, did not disclose names of the customers or their location due to non-disclosure agreements with them. "Of the four satellites, three will be launched using ISRO's polar satellite launch vehicle (PSLV) and one with its small satellite launch vehicle (SSLV). The spacecraft will be used for earth observation applications," said Narayanan, marking the company's two years of completion. The state-run NSIL was in the news recently for launching Brazil's earth observation satellite Amazonia-1 on February 28 from the spaceport on board ISRO's PSLV-C51 rocket along with 18 other satellites. Amazonia-1 is the optical earth observation satellite of National Institute for Space Research (INPE) in Brazil. In addition to these commercial launches, NSIL will launch two communication satellites for Indian customers offering direct-to-home (DTH) services and telecom operators offering broadband services using Ku-band transponders. "The two communication satellites, to be launched by ISRO from its spaceport, will be owned and operated by us (NSIL) for customers on commercial terms for revenue-generating services," said Narayanan but declined to name the customers claiming confidentiality. Unlike the now defunct ISRO's commercial arm Antrix Corporation, which has ceased to function after its deal with Multimedia Deval fell through, the 2-year NSIL is a wholly owned state-run of the department of space as a central public sector enterprise. NSIL has been formed with Rs 10 crore paid-up capital and Rs 100-crore authorised capital. The space department has provided Rs 700 crore in the budget for fiscal 2021-22 for investing in infrastructure and capacity building to make satellites, rockets and launch them on commercial terms. "We also plan to invest Rs 2,000 crore per annum over the next five years to ramp up infrastructure to build satellites and rockets, launch them and operate their services for domestic use," asserted Narayanan. The Rs 2,000-crore for investment per annum will be raised through a mix of equity and debt. "We will also ramp up our headcount by hiring about 300 more people for stepping up operations and prepare to launch more satellites and rockets," said Narayanan on the occasion. Going forward, the fledgling company will launch heavy satellites for space applications and observation in the earth's geo-synchronous orbit by state-run and private firms. "The company has generated Rs 300 crore revenue in the first year (2019-20) of operations, Rs 400-crore in the second year (2020-21) amid the Covid pandemic through launches and space-based services from ISRO's satellites," said NSIL Director for technology and strategy D. Radhakrishnan. During its first two years of operations, the company has launched 45 auxiliary customer satellites onboard ISRO's 4 PSLV missions, including Amazonia-1. Lunar nights These images might come out a little blurry since Vikram has been incommunicado for ten days now. Sunlight is depleting with only four days to go before the lunar night sets in, which will last for two weeks. These are also the last four days that ISRO has to establish <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/chandrayaan-2-fails-in-the-final-seconds-of-descent-to-moons-south-pole/articleshow/71018196.cms">communication with Vikram</a> before it gets too cold for the lander to operate. The lander isn’t meant to survive temperatures that will dip to beyond -270 degrees Celsius. The report on the major findings from Chandrayaan-2's science experiments was planned to be released at the Annual Lunar Planetary Science Conference in March. However, it got cancelled due to Covid-19. The Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft was inserted into lunar orbit on August 20, 2019. All eight payloads on Chandrayaan-2 are performing well. The global mapping of lunar surface and polar coverage are being carried out as per the mission plan, ISRO said. ISRO to release Chandrayaan-2 data globally from October

India’s “supersmart spacecraft” Mangalyaan also known as <keyword id="6625456" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mars-Orbiter-Mission">Mars Orbiter Mission</keyword> (MOM) has been named among the 25 'Best Inventions of 2014' listed by Time magazine. Developed by <keyword id="116095" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword> (ISRO), the orbiter has been described as a technological feat that will allow “India to flex its interplanetary muscles" and delve deep into the mysteries of the Red Planet. 
 ISRO scientists achieved the impossible task with their sheer hard work and dedication."Nobody gets Mars right on the first try. The US didn't, <keyword id="6358826" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Russia">Russia</keyword> didn't, and the Europeans didn't. But on September 24, India did. That's when the Mangalyaan ...went into orbit around the Red Planet, a technological feat no other Asian nation has yet achieved," said the American weekly news magazine. 
 
The cheapest inter-planetary mission cost India just $74 million (approximately Rs 450 crore), which is less than the budget for the multi-Academy Award winning sci-fi film Gravity. The Mangalyaan also carried with it five scientific instruments--a camera, two spectrometers, a radiometer and a photometer--to study the Martian surface and its mineral composition, and scan its <keyword id="6366415" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="atmosphere">atmosphere</keyword> for methane gas.
