<ul><li>Actor <keyword id="9138707" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Irrfan-Khan-passed-away">Irrfan Khan passed away</keyword> in Mumbai on April 29. </li><li>Bollywood directors, actors and well-wishers expressed their deepest condolences on social media, remembering Khan as a versatile actor and an even more beautiful human being.</li><li>Today, as the country is reeling with the shocking news of the death of the actor, with a heavy heart, we pay tribute to the multi-faceted, inimitable Irrfan Khan and look back at some of the campaigns that he acted in over the years. </li></ul>Actor Irrfan Khan, aged 54, passed away in Mumbai on April 29. He had been hospitalised and was under observation for colon infection. Khan had announced in 2018 that he had been diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour and had been traveling frequently to London for treatment. The news sent shockwaves across the country as Khan was one of the most loved actors who did not just shine in every movie he acted in, he also put India on the global map, acting in several international blockbusters including Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, Jurassic World, The Amazing Spider-Man and Life of Pi. Over the years, he was also the face of several brands that roped him in because there was a certain relatability as well as instant likeability factor associated with him. Syska Group onboards Rajkummar Rao as its brand ambassador

<ul><li>In our latest episode of BTS with Insiders, <keyword id="6375200" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PIYUSH-PANDEY">Piyush Pandey</keyword>, Chief Creative Officer Worldwide, Ogilvy, talks about four actors, <keyword id="16207" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Irrfan-Khan">Irrfan Khan</keyword>, Pushpa Joshi, <keyword id="2717040" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Atmaram-Bhende">Atmaram Bhende</keyword> and <keyword id="2026942" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Asha-Bhende">Asha Bhende</keyword>, would are no longer with us but who created magic in some campaigns created by the ad guru.</li><li>Pandey shares some stories from each of the three ads, while also making an appeal to younger creative professionals to be open to identifying new actors.</li></ul>Last week we collectively grieved the loss of two stalwarts who made a huge impact on Indian cinema, Irrfan Khan and <keyword id="6357910" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rishi-Kapoor">Rishi Kapoor</keyword>. When I reached out to Piyush Pandey, Chief Creative Officer Worldwide, Ogilvy, for our weekly chat show, BTS with Insiders, we initially wanted to talk about three ads that he had worked on over the course of his career that he held close to his heart. However, considering how the week had panned out, Pandey was mourning the loss of the two actors too, and it only seemed fitting that we speak about some of the gems he had created over the years, not just with Khan but also with a few other actors. Episode 3 of BTS with Insiders saw us talking to Pandey about Irrfan Khan, who was the face of Hutch and acted in around 18 ads for the brand, Pushpa Joshi, who took the nation by storm just by a few seconds of her presence as a kabaadiwaali in Fevikwik’s recent ad, and actors Atmaram Bhende and his wife, Asha Bhende who were a part of SBI Life’s campaign, close to 10 years back. Each of the four actors had something in them that took the stories Pandey wanted to tell, and turned them into unforgettable gems. Irrfan Khan - Hutch When Ogilvy wanted to create a series of ads talking about Hutch’s new recharge packs, and the agency wanted the ad to speak the language of the common man, simply to make it more relatable, and to drive its simple point across, that Hutch will give you the most value for your money. Ever since the passing away of Khan, people across the country, in their numerous tributes to the actor have mentioned about his portrayals being relatable. He made us feel that he was one of us. It was perhaps this quality that made V Mahesh and Rajiv Rao, along with the Hutch team decided to cast Khan in the ads. “Irrfan was not a masses man only through his cinema. He was a fantastic symbol of a common man, and an amazing actor. Rajiv and Mahesh, along with Shashanka Chaturvedi (aka Bob) of Good Morning Films who directed the films thought of Irrfan,” shared Pandey. The brand and agency had initially thought of coming up with 3 films. “We ended up doing 18 eventually,” shared Pandey with a laugh. “Everybody loved him because he was so credible and amazing,” he added. What made the ads memorable was the fact that they were written the way a common man speaks. “And while I was not present at the shoot, I am pretty certain that Irrfan would have added his bits to it. You cannot work with a big actor without using his abilities beyond acting because they come up with the little things that add magic. And magic is exactly what he created. Today, when he is a lot more popular, one could have done a lot more with him but in those days, he was not known to billions of people because that wasn’t exactly his kind of cinema. And yet, he walked in and stole the show, every single time,” said Pandey. He also shared that he kept making plans with Irrfan to meet up in Jaipur, which is where both of them grew up, but it never really materialized. “We made a whole lot of plans to fly kites together in Jaipur but unfortunately the opportunity never came, and he flew away from our midst,” said Pandey. Pushpa Joshi - Fevikwik Pandey has been weaving magic for one of Ogilvy’s oldest clients Pidilite for years now. Who can forget some of the old gems created for brands like Fevicol and Fevikwik. Bharat Puri. Managing Director at <keyword id="260169" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pidilite-Industries">Pidilite Industries</keyword> often says that Ogilvy isn’t really a creative partner for them, rather they almost are the owners of the brand. It is perhaps this confidence in Pandey and his team that made Pidilite agree to casting octogenarian Pushpa Joshi, who played the role of a kabaadiwaali, in Fevikwik’s recent adorable campaign and wooed the entire nation with her endearing charm. It was Pandey’s brother <keyword id="1397913" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prasoon-Pandey">Prasoon Pandey</keyword>, who thought of casting Joshi in the ad. “Pushpaji was cast in the ad with a bit of difficulty, with due apologies to my young clients at Pidilite. They were apprehensive because how you can get somebody so old to act? And my brother Prasoon Pandey who directed the ad said, ‘There’s no retirement age for a kabadiwali’. When she came to the set though, Prasoon himself was a little worried because she arrived in a wheelchair. But soon she just picked up and gave us the performance of a lifetime. The ad took the nation by storm just because of what she did and what the director did with her,” shared Pandey. While Pushpa Ji, as everybody lovingly called her, won everyone’s hearts just by coming on the screen for a few seconds, Pandey rued the fact that they had not discovered her earlier. “I don’t recall seeing Pushpa Ji in any other ad. Maybe we weren’t really good at sourcing her. We didn’t find her earlier enough but when we did, she left us with the impression of a lifetime. For our younger audience, there’s a lesson here. It’s never too late to start. If you have a talent, just go out and play. You never know, you might find that the years were never lost and that you can make up for them in one shot,” added Pandey. Atmaram and Asha Bhende - <keyword id="194127" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI-Life-Insurance">SBI Life Insurance</keyword> Atmaram Bhende was a well-known face in Marathi movies and theatre. However, people in the rest of the country discovered this veteran actor in Lage Raho Munna Bhai as one of the many adorable people staying at the old age home that the entire movie revolved around. Atmaram Ji along with his wife, Asha Bhende, had been a part of SBI Life Insurance’s campaign, ‘Heere Ko Kya Pata’ close to 10 years back. This simple, slice of life conversation between an elderly couple was brought to life by these two effortless actors. What also makes this campaign doubly special is the fact that it is based on a conversation Pandey had with his mother. “The story of this ad is inspired by a conversation I had with my mother. She wanted to own a diamond but never asked us for it. She had a lot of self-respect. One day our sisters told us about her secret wish to us but we weren’t very affluent at that point of time. So we went and bought a pair of earrings for her. Prasoon paid for one and I paid for the other. When we gave it to her, she had said, ‘Iss umr me kahan pehenungi main heera? (Where will I wear a diamond at this age?). That stayed with me and when I created the ad, I added the line, ‘Heere ko kya pata tumhari umr, (The diamond doesn’t really know your age), at the time of writing the film. When we were casting, my brother said that nobody can perform this better than Atmaram Ji and Asha Ji,” he reminisced. Before ending the conversation, Pandey also made an appeal to the advertising industry, asking them to give new talent a chance. “Our younger audience and professionals in the industry should never forget that there are some fantastic actors around who have the capability to make your script ten times as good from where you wrote it. And as I pay my tribute to all these four fantastic artists for giving our industry a touch of their magic, I would ask the younger generation to identify such actors, use them well and give them the opportunity. So look for more of such people and make our industry look better by using these stalwarts,” he concluded.

Mumbai, Apr 30 () Rubbishing reports of hospitalisation, veteran actor <keyword id="6354338" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="naseeruddin-shah">Naseeruddin Shah</keyword> on Thursday said he was "fine" and at home observing the nationwide lockdown.Shah, 69, in a Facebook post, thanked people for their concern and reassured them about his health. "I thank all those enquiring after my health and reassure them I am fine," he said. "I'm at home and observing the lockdown. Please don't believe any rumours," he added. "A Wednesday" actor's younger son Vivaan Shah also dismissed rumours about his father's health. "He's alright. These are just rumours," Vivaan told . Reports about Shah's health started surfacing on social media as the industry was coming to terms with the deaths of Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor. Rishi Kapoor, aged 67, died on Thursday in a hospital here after a two year-long battle with lukaemia, while Irrfan, 54, passed away on Wednesday due to neuroendocrine tumour, a rare form of cancer.

Fake news on Naseeruddin Shah's hospitalisation

The nationwide lockdown was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 24 to contain the spread of COVID-19. Dharmendra, 84, believes people should take the lockdown "positively"."Due to lockdown there is no pollution, there is so much fresh air, the sky is so clear, everything looks beautiful. I am so happy to see this time it reminds me of the time that we lived back then. We all should take lockdown positively," the actor told in an interview."I am living life like this and I am very happy about it. I come to the city when there is work (referring to films) and when not I am happy here in my farmhouse. I am born to give happiness, entertain and inspire everyone," he added.The actor believes the pandemic is the result of the actions of humans and the only way to survive now is to live in sync with nature. "It is a very tight slap on our face from mother earth. We need to love and nurture nature. Directed by <keyword id="127321" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shoojit-Sircar">Shoojit Sircar</keyword>, the Lucknow-set satire will start streaming from June 12 worldwide. "Gulabo Sitabo" is a quirky tale of two slimy scheming foxes -- a landlord and tenant -- in a game of one upmanship. A Rising Sun Films Production, the movie was ready for an April release but owing to the coronavirus-induced shutdown the filmmakers decided to take the digital route. Sircar said he is happy that the film, penned by frequent collaborator Juhi Chaturvedi, will finally release. "I am happy that finally I can put forward my film as quickly as possible. As soon as the story was baked, I wanted to serve it. These are unforeseen circumstances, we all have to go through it," the director told PTI in an interview. The film is the first direct digital release for Sircar. "I have never experimented on a digital platform so this is the first time that we are releasing a film straight on a streamer. It's quite exciting as digital is going to be the future," he added. The director has previously directed Bachchan in "Piku" (2015), alongside Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan, and the megastar said the dramedy is a "must watch for families at home". "I had a wonderful time working with my very talented co-star Ayushmann Khurrana. Even though we are constantly bantering in the film, it has been a pleasure working with him for the first time. "This family entertainer has the power to cut across geographic boundaries and we are pleased to bring 'Gulabo Sitabo' to audiences across the globe," Bachchan said in a statement. "Gulabo Sitabo" also reunites Khurrana with Sircar after the 2012 hit "Vicky Donor", which was the actor's debut in Bollywood. Khurrana said this is a "special film" for him for many reasons. "It made me reunite with my mentor Shoojit da after 'Vicky Donor'. Whatever I'm today is because of him and I'm happy that he made me a part of his vision again. 'Gulabo Sitabo' also sees me share the screen space with Mr Amitabh Bachchan for the first time and it's a huge moment, it's a dream come true for me," he said. Sircar said while some films may take the "same route" of streamers during the COVID-19 pandemic, theatrical experience is here to stay. Both cinema halls and digital platforms will continue to coexist, he added. "Experience of watching 'Gulabo Sitabo' on Amazon will be no less than watching the film in theatres. I saw 'Roma', which directly released on a streamer in 2018, and then watched 'The Bicycle Thief' and 'Pather Panchali', and that gave me that much a cinematic kick when I saw these films on a digital platform." Producer Ronnie Lahiri said the film was earlier scheduled to be released last year, but was postponed as they wanted to go on floors with Sircar's next directorial, "Sardar Udham Singh" biopic with actor Vicky Kaushal. As the team focuses on one project at a time, "Gulabo Sitabo" had to wait for a release window, he said. "We were ready now but unfortunately this whole situation happened. With any difficult scenario, there is always another route forward that one has to find. The idea is to adapt to the situation. There is always a matter of preference but there are situations that go beyond our control," Lahiri said. The producer said what matters is that the viewers will get to see the film, regardless of the platform. "For us, it's exciting that at least the film is ready and a lot of people will see it. And what better platform than Amazon which is going to go across 200 territories worldwide. It's like a world premiere, so more people will watch it. For us, the bigger love is when people see the film," Lahiri said. Calling "Gulabo Sitabo" as "one of my most important" films, Sircar said releasing the movie straight on digital was motivated "purely by choice". "When I was offered and asked by Ronnie for the digital release, it was purely by choice (that we went for it) at this moment. I have a fresh novelty to the film. I have lived with the story for two-three years. When I make a film, I always feel it should reach to the audience as soon as possible," he explained. Vijay Subramaniam, director and head, content, Amazon Prime Video, India, said they are are happy to exclusively premiere one of the most anticipated films of the year "Gulabo Sitabo" on the streamer. By Justin Rao and Komal Panchamatia Mumbai, May 12 () Big ticket releases such as Amitabh Bachchan's "Gulabo Sitabo" may bypass theatres and premiere directly on digital platforms, being seen as a potential saviour for the film industry in a year marred by the COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainty over when cinemas will open.Faced with the question of going "direct to digital" or waiting for theatres to open after the situation improves, many filmmakers and production houses are exploring the option of heading to streaming platforms, industry insiders said.Shoojit Sircar's Amitabh-Ayushman Khurrana starrer "Gulabo Sitabo", Anu Menon's eponymous biopic on math genius Shakuntala Devi, with Vidya Balan in the title role, as well as "Chehre", another Amitabh film, are among the films likely to be released soon on a streaming platform."The deal of releasing 'Gulabo Sitabo', a quirky comedy set in Lucknow, and 'Shakuntala Devi' on Amazon Prime Video has been locked. The official announcement for both the films is most likely to be made this week," a source close to the streamer told .Ronnie Lahiri, producer on "Gulabo Sitabo", neither confirmed nor denied reports when reached out to him but asked journalists to wait for an official statement.An insider on the team of "Shakuntala Devi" also did not comment about the film's digital release."Chehre" producer Anand Pandit said a digital release was under consideration."Given how the lockdown is panning out, a digital release for 'Chehre' is being mulled," Pandit said, adding they would wait till the first week of June to take a final call.India has been under lockdown since March 25 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.The one official announcement was the release of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's film "Ghoomketu", which streamed on ZEE5 last week. Most other plans are shrouded in secrecy with officials reluctant to come on record. But the list of 2020 films which will be released on streaming platforms is long, said insiders. Top on the list is "Laxmmi Bomb", featuring Akshay Kumar and backed by Fox Star Studios, which has reportedly been picked up by the recently launched service Disney+Hotstar. However, Hotstar representatives maintained a "no comment" stance as did producer Tusshar Kapoor.The movie, directed by Raghava Lawrence, was scheduled to be released on May 22 in theatres. That is unlikely to happen with no signs of cinema theatres opening even if the lockdown ends.The other 2020 releases -- Varun Dhawan-starrer "Coolie No 1", "Jhund" with Bachchan and Jahnvi Kapoor's "Gunjan Saxena" -- are also likely to head to different OTT platforms.Kiara Advani-starrer "Indoo Ki Jawani", co-produced by Nikkhil Advani and Bhushan Kumar, is also reportedly looking for a digital release.However, Advani said the film is currently being edited "despite physical constraints" and the team is optimistic it will be ready "very soon"."We are exploring all possible avenues. Nothing stands confirmed or committed. As soon as we are clear about the way ahead, we will make a statement," he said.Bhushan's T-Series' has two other films, "Ludo" and "Jhund".While questions sent to Bhushan on the slate of his films were left unanswered, a source from the production house confirmed that T-Series is planning to release its films digitally and talks are currently on.There are also some producers who want to wait it out.Producer Jackky Bhagnani, who was looking forward to the theatrical release of "Coolie No 1" on May 1, said he is not thinking about films right now. "Let us overcome this crisis and we will announce in happier times," Bhagnani said when asked about whether he was looking at releasing the film digitally.Reliance Entertainment said it will wait to release two of this year's most awaited films – Akshay starrer "Sooryavanshi" with "83", fronted by Ranveer Singh. The team will wait for the lockdown to be lifted and release these movies in theatres."We will first complete the film then we will wait. If six or nine months down the line the situation becomes much worse we will take a call at that time. There is no hurry. Same is the case with 'Sooryavanshi' and our other films," Reliance Entertainment Group CEO Shibashish Sarkar told last month.Irrfan Khan's last film "Angrezi Medium" headed to OTT platforms soon after its theatrical release as the lockdown led to cinema halls being closed. "There is a lot of big money involved. Also, if you release on OTT you cannot release it in theatres… If you release a film in theatre it will come on satellite as well as digital later," said trade analyst Taran Adarsh.Last week, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) appealed to studio partners, producers, artistes and content creators to support the cinema exhibition sector by holding their films and releasing them in theatres once they reopen.The statement followed reports that several films were looking at a direct to digital release amid the lockdown.The combination of "pent-up demand" and the promise of new movies would boost film business and contribute massively in reviving the industry, the association said."The collective, social experience of watching films on the big screen needs to be preserved and it can be done so only with the collective support of all stakeholders," the statement from the body read."One can't say the film will lose or gain from a digital release, because when you release a good film in theatres, sky is the limit," Adarsh added KKP/JUR RDS MINMIN

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Following the two sequels to the 1993 smash hit "Jurassic Park," actor <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000703/?ref_=tt_cl_t9">BD Wong</a> realized he had to take things into his own hands.As <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jurassic-world-dr-wu-returns-in-a-darker-role-2015-6">Dr. Henry Wu</a> in "Jurassic Park," the chief engineer responsible for the recreation of the dinosaurs in the park, there was never any resolution to what happened to the character.Did he get eaten by his creations once the park lost power and roamed free? Did he make it on one of the last boats off the island?The character's absence in any followup sequels led to years of people asking Wong what happened to Dr. Wu. Finally, the actor was ready to finally give the fans what they wanted."I was at the point where I wanted to make some videos to put online showing what happened to him," Wong told Business Insider. "Silly things for the fans, like he somehow ended up with the shaving cream can." Referring to the infamous Barbasol can filled with dinosaur embryos that dropped out of Dennis Nedry's coat when he was attacked by a Dilophosaurus in "Jurassic Park."<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>But before he could follow through on his zany idea the phone rang, and it was "Jurassic Word" director <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1119880/?ref_=tt_ov_dr">Colin Trevorrow</a>.A year before "Jurassic World" went into production, Trevorrow reached out to the actor and asking if he would like to reprise the role of Dr. Wu."I was like, 'Sure, of course, that sounds great,'" Wong recalled. "I didn't really take it that seriously because things change all the time."Wong knows that from first-hand experience.The 54 year old is a veteran character actor having worked on "Law &amp; Order: SVU" for 11 years playing Dr. George Huang and starring in countless movies since the 1980s. But when he got the call to play Dr. Wu the first time around in "Jurassic Park" he thought it would bring him to the next level.Mainly, because of the size of the Dr. Wu character in the book. In which he stays on the island with the others to regain power to the park."I was actually hired from auditions I did that were scenes taken from the book," said Wong, referring to the Michael Crichton novel the movie is based on."So imagine my surprise when I got a call that I was working on the movie for one day," he said.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Though his character was stripped bare, Wong got over it quickly because being on a movie of that magnitude definitely helped him get more work.But when Trevorrow came calling 20-plus years later, Wong was a bit skeptical."I think he might have sensed that I was sensitive to their not being much to [the character]," he said. "He was courting me in a way."As Wong predicted, it was months following that first call with Trevorrow when he finally got word that Dr. Wu was going to be in the film.But how they had fleshed out the Dr. Wu character was beyond Wong's expectations."The character was coming full circle but also they were giving him his due in some way," Wong said. "They were making him into a three-dimensional person and I liked that."In "Jurassic World," Dr. Wu is now the head of the division that clones dinosaurs and has pushed the boundaries of cloning. He's in charge of developing bigger, and more dangerous creatures to keep fans of the theme park returning for more.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Dr. Wu's major scene comes after his newest creation, the Indominus Rex, has escaped and the park's owner Simon Masrani (<a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0451234/?ref_=tt_cl_t6">Irrfan Khan</a>) comes to Dr. Wu for answers. Like in "Jurassic Park," Dr. Wu gives the audience a better understanding of what our heroes are up against. But this time Trevorrow wanted the character to have an added layer."We're about to shoot my big scene with Simon Masrani, Colin comes over to me and says, 'You know, I think Wu he should say, 'All of this is because of me,'" Wong recalls.The line was not in the script, and Wong was instantly taken-aback that Trevorrow would let a lower-tier character say a line of such magnitude."I was like, 'Are you kidding me?' But I said the line in every take from that point on," Wong said. "But I thought they were never going to use that. Or Universal would not let them use it. That's just too much of a commitment."<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>But it was left in. And that chilling line presented the audience with a side of Dr. Wu they didn't see coming. A person so full of himself that he now has a God complex. The importance of Dr. Wu to the story is confirmed in his last scene when we see him fly off Jurassic World with a suitcase full of dino embryos.So, will we see Dr. Wu if there are sequels to "Jurassic World"?Wong is as curious as we are."I'm not even being coy, I don't have any idea," he said. "I read the movie and had the same reaction that most all people are having in regards to that.
