The company raised ₹537.7 crore from 55 anchor investors before opening it for the public. Doms Industries lists at over 77% premium exceeding grey market expectations

Additionally, Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) made a <keyword id="2609447" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-investment" source="Orion">net investment</keyword> of Rs 14,860 crore in the debt market last month, making it the highest level in six years, data with the depositories showed. Going forward, FPI response will be crucially determined by the market trend, which, in turn, will be influenced by the state election results, VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, said. If the state election results turn out to be favorable for the ruling dispensation, the market will stage a rally, and overseas investors are unlikely to miss that rally by big selling, he added. According to the data, FPIs made a net investment of Rs 9,000 crore in Indian <keyword id="45369" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="equities" source="Orion">equities</keyword> in November. This came after FPIs dumped Indian equities worth Rs 24,548 crore in October and Rs 14,767 crore in September. Before the outflow, FPIs were incessantly buying Indian equities in the last six months from March to August and brought in Rs 1.74 lakh crore during the period. The latest inflow can be attributed to fluctuations in the US Treasury yields and crude oil prices. Last month, the market witnessed the remarkable listing of two IPOs - IREDA and Tata Tech - potentially indicating a positive trend for foreign investors, Bharat Dhawan, Managing Partner, Mazars in India, said. "While the decline in US treasury bond yields could have prompted FPIs to turn their focus back to the Indian market for better returns, listing of IPOs would have also bought foreign investors back," Himanshu Srivastava, Associate Director - Manager Research at Morningstar Investment Research India Private Limited, said. Additionally, the US Fed in its policy meeting last month agreed to proceed carefully and only raise interest rates if progress in controlling inflation faltered, but it did not provide any indication concerning the timeline for rate cuts. However, low chances of further rate hikes could have also boosted market sentiments leading foreign investors to take on some risk, Also, a fall in crude prices also provided positive support, Srivastava said. Overall, the cumulative trend for 2023 remains healthy, with FPIs pouring in Rs 1.15 lakh crore so far this calendar year. With regards to bonds, the debt market attracted Rs 14,860 crore in November, after receiving Rs 6,381 crore in October, data showed. This was the highest inflow since October 2017, when they had poured Rs 16,063 crore. The inclusion of Indian G-Sec in the JP Morgan Government Bond Index Emerging Markets has spurred foreign fund participation in the Indian bond markets. So far this year, overseas investors have net invested Rs 50,270 crore in the Indian debt market. Flair pens a successful debut, lists at 49% premium

EV startup <keyword id="13020976" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Oben-Electric" source="Orion">Oben Electric</keyword> on Tuesday said it has raised Rs 40 crore in an extended pre-series A round and also announced it will start delivering its electric motorcycle Rorr to customers in Bengaluru from next month. The company has so far secured a total funding of Rs 88 crore, including Rs 72 crore (both in equity and debt) in the pre-Series A round, <keyword id="13025321" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="oben" source="Orion">Oben</keyword> said in a statement. The capital infusion will help the company in scaling up its production capacity at the Bengaluru facility to 100,000 units per year as well as meet the working capital requirements for distribution expansion, it said. The Bengaluru-based EV startup which has a distribution network across major cities in the country, plans to meet the demand of 21,000 pre-orders by scaling up its manufacturing capacity, the company said. The funding round attracted both Institutional investors such as Stride Ventures and Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), along with new investors including Mumbai Angels and other high-net-worth individuals (HNIs), Oben said. Besides, existing investors such as Kalvani Family Office, US India EV Angels, and We Founder Circle also participated in the fundraise, it said. "The additional fund infusion came after meticulously planning the delivery dates and to meet the existing and future customer demand of our product Oben Rorr. The latest infusion of funds will be used to meet our committed delivery timeline that is set for the first week of July," said Madhumita Agrawal, Founder-CEO, Oben Electric.

It’s expecting to gain from the China +1 strategy adopted by many international companies. “We have received feedback from many international OEMs to make vacuum bottles and more such. It’s a good business which can add to our topline and bottomline both,” Sumit Rathod, whole time director at Flair Writing Industries told Business Insider India. Leading EV ride-hailing and charging provider <keyword id="9621652" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BluSmart-Mobility" source="Orion">BluSmart Mobility</keyword> on Thursday said it has raised $42 million in the recent round and will continue to build on its vision of decarbonising the future of transportation in the country. The latest round included an equity round of $37 million and venture debt of $5 million which saw participation from existing energy investors, with almost 50 per cent of the round being subscribed by the BluSmart founders and leadership team. With an all-electric ride-hailing fleet size of 3,500 EVs currently operating in Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru, BluSmart plans to have 10,000 EVs in FY24. "The electrification of public transportation is imminent but the path to electrification has its own challenges. BluSmart tackles these challenges through an integrated and full-stack approach, optimally using and maintaining the EV ride-hailing fleet at scale," said Anmol Singh Jaggi, Co-founder and CEO, BluSmart Mobility. BluSmart's monthly revenue has grown 3 times over the last three quarters and to scale further this funding round will be utilised to penetrate deeper into mega cities, expansion of fleet capacity to 10,000 over the next 1 year. BluSmart recently secured the largest EV asset financing of Rs 633 crore in India, backed by the Power Finance Corporation (PFC), which will add 5,000 EVs to BluSmart's growing fully-electric ride-hailing fleet. BluSmart Mobility raises $42 mn to boost its EV operations in India

With <keyword id="6354335" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="Orion">Reserve Bank of India</keyword>'s (<keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword>) Monetary Policy Committee (<keyword id="6369693" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mpc" source="Orion">MPC</keyword>) set to meet to decide on the policy rate revision, industry lobby body <keyword id="6355988" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="assocham" source="Orion">ASSOCHAM</keyword> has urged the former for a moderate hike. ASSOCHAM has also requested the RBI to treat retail loans for purchase of electric vehicle (EV) as priority sector lending. According to ASSOCHAM, the interest rate hike should be moderate so that the rising cost of borrowing does not have an adverse and disproportionate impact on the nascent economic recovery post the pandemic. At most, the new rate hike should not exceed the 25-35 basis points (bps) band, ASSOCHAM said in a letter to RBI Governor <keyword id="6359111" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shaktikanta-das" source="Orion">Shaktikanta Das</keyword>, along with highlighting other issues facing the industry. One of the key recommendations advanced by ASSOCHAM is to treat retail loans for purchase of EVs as priority sector lending, with a concessional rate of interest. "Retail advances against EVs may be included under priority sector lending. This may help in catalysing India's EV story," ASSOCHAM Secretary General Deepak Sood said. As regards increasing cost of borrowing, the chamber said that the recovery in the Indian economy is quite noticeable, especially in the backdrop of the global head winds. However, it is still in the nascent stage and needs to be supported. "Signs of inflation peaking are visible when it comes to the domest ic economy. Even in the developed markets, early indications of inflation peaking are visible, thus setting a stage for the RBI-MPC to move towards halting the rate hike cycle," Sood said. In another suggestion, the chamber said RBI may consider a special window of borrowing for IREDA at repo rate, to ensure availability of low-cost funds for renewable projects. In a unique proposition, ASSOCHAM urged the central bank to consider a time bound approach for getting all banks under Account Aggregator (AA) framework. The framework helps an individual to access and share information from one financial institution to any other in the AA network securely and digitally. ASSOCHAM urges RBI not to hike repo rate beyond 25-35 bps

But even for the current year, India is well short of the targets. <div type="image" title="renewable kotak" height="900" width="1200" msid="89000432" hostid="261"></div>The lack of support at the level of state governments is the reason for the shortfall, according to one expert. “The problem is to make those things happen (meet renewable energy commitments) the central government actually has very little tools and resources. These decisions are actually dealt at the state level and frankly states aren't always bought in for these commitments that the central government puts out there,” said Richard Rossow, the Wadhwani Chair in US India Policy Studies at the influential think-tank CSIS. Rossow points out that the states’ reluctance may not even be political. Even states ruled by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ⁠— which is also ruling at the Centre ⁠— have not backed the Prime Minister’s agenda wholeheartedly. “Sometimes of the BJP states are some of the worst laggards. And sometimes states that oppose Modi’s agenda are the fastest to jump on board,” added Rossow. Among the top 10 states that have made the best progress in building up renewable energy ⁠— solar, wind and hydropower projects ⁠— sources, only three of them are ruled by, or aligned with, the BJP. <div type="image" title="renewable-states" msid="89000399" hostid="261"></div>Karnataka is the top state because of several reasons like offering incentives and subsidies to promote green buildings, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure deployment, and energy-efficient technology adoption in industries. On January 19, the Cabinet cleared ₹1,500 crore for the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA). This will enable IREDA to lend ₹12,000 crores to the renewable energy sector. State-owned lenders like the Power Finance Corporation and Rural Electrification Corporation have cut interest rates for long term loans to renewable energy projects to 7.85%. By Jimit Devani, Naman Shah and Jash Davda India has made revolutionary development in the renewable energy (RE) sector. In the last 7.5 years the RE installed capacity has increased by 286%, making India the fourth biggest in the world, for installed RE capacity. As of October 2021, India’s RE capacity has reached 149.57 gigawatts (GW), from 94.4 GW in 2020. The <keyword id="6360189" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="union-budget" source="Orion">Union Budget</keyword>, 2021 outlined various reforms and initiatives towards boosting the non-conventional energy sector in India. The first one amongst it was the clarion call for ‘<keyword id="9210258" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Atmanirbhar-Bharat" source="Orion">Atmanirbhar Bharat</keyword>’ and ‘Vocal for Local’, by introducing production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme of ₹4,500 crore for solar cells and modules. An overwhelming response from the industry to the PLI scheme led to further enhancement of the scheme to ₹24,000 crore to boost exports. Recently, on January 20, 2022, the Cabinet also approved capital infusion of ₹1,500 crore to the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) as proposed in the Union Budget, 2021. However, the journey has just begun and much is yet to be accomplished. The RE sector has a mammoth target of 227 GW capacity generation in 2022, of which about 114 GW is planned for solar, 67 GW for wind and the remaining for hydro and bio, amongst others. Further, at the COP 26 climate summit in Glasgow, enhancing its commitment towards climate change India pledged five – ‘Panchamrits’ – to become a ‘<keyword id="13030731" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-zero-carbon-emitter" source="Orion">net zero’ carbon emitter</keyword> by 2070. To achieve this ambitious target, various reforms are expected in the Union Budget, 2022 to push the industry. A few of them are listed below: 1. Expansion of PLI schemes Presently, the PLI scheme only covers solar cells and modules. However, to boost domestic manufacturing it is also imperative to incentivise other limbs of the RE segment. This can be achieved by extending the benefits of the scheme with additional budgetary allocation to: <ol><li>Manufacturers of electrolysers to generate green hydrogen</li><li>Battery manufacturers for electric vehicles</li><li>Greening of Indian railways</li><li>Wind turbines.</li></ol>2. Tax incentives for green economy adoption Promoting green technology is critical to India’s commitment towards its ‘net zero’ emissions target. Countries across the globe are taking steps for furtherance of the green economy by providing free land, concessional power cost, funding at low interest costs, government incentives, etc in addition to concessional tax rates. To push the RE players and provide a level playing field globally, similar benefits may be provided in the upcoming Budget. With respect to tax related measures, it is expected that a concessional tax rate of 15% should also be extended to companies which invest in green technologies coupled with an additional deduction towards investment or purchase of green technology assets. 3. Promotion of social infrastructure projects like conversion of waste to energy In order to promote social infrastructure projects like waste to energy as well as projects that lead to transformation of waste to energy, it is recommended to include them under priority sector lending. This has been successfully implemented by municipal corporations of Indore and Nagpur. The government may, along with the state government/municipal corporation/gram panchayat develop a policy, setting a target to develop such social infrastructure projects in the respective localities. Companies participating in such projects should also be incentivised with subsidies on tariff rates, free land and other benefits. 4.Tax consolidation policy Typically, RE projects are domiciled in separate special purpose vehicles (SPVs) due to various reasons such as regulatory compulsion, banker’s comfort, and the need to segregate cash flows. Having multiple SPVs for a single line of business results in inefficiencies and increased compliance burden. Further, the losses of one SPV cannot be set-off against the profits of another SPV. All these factors make <keyword id="13030730" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tax-consolidation-schemes" source="Orion">tax consolidation schemes</keyword> a need of the hour and hence, consolidation of group tax may be considered for streamlining tax provisions and making more proceeds available in the hands of the investors. 5. Rationalising GST rates Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates on specified RE devices and parts have been increased from 5% to 12%, due to which effective GST rate for EPC contracts has increased from 8.9% to 13.8%. It is thus recommended to restore the GST rate of 5% so as to bring down the cost to companies. There are various other steps, which are required to be taken in order to bring in long-term policy stability and for promoting investments in the RE sector such as regularisation of payment from DISCOMs, land acquisition, and resumption of staggered projects. Thus, the RE sector expects <a href="https://www.cnbctv18.com/budget-2020/">Budget 2022</a> to step up towards achieving the ambitious dream of making India ‘net zero’ carbon emitter by 2070. OPINION: Tax consolidation schemes is the need of the hour for India’s renewable energy sector

New Delhi, Apr 17 () Industry body CII on Friday said discoms are likely to suffer a net revenue loss of around Rs 30,000 crore and liquidity crunch of about Rs 50,000 crore due to the coronavirus-induced nationwide lockdown. According to government data, the discoms owe Rs 92,602 crore to Gencos as of February, 2020. In its report released on Friday, the CII has suggested host of measures like easy credit facility for discoms (from PFC and REC) to pay off its dues to Gencos, lower tariff especially for industrial and commercial consumers and deferral of indirect taxes like electricity duty, coal cess etc. According to the report, power sector, one of the essential services under the lockdown till May 3, is battling the twin issues of demand and liquidity compression. Latest data from Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO) indicates that total demand per week between March 23 and April 12 was 18 BU (billion units), compared to 23 BU during the week of March 9-15 (before Janata Curfew and lockdown), 25-28 per cent reduction in demand. The further extension of the lockdown could result in additional demand compression of 15 to 20 BU, implying a net revenue loss of Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 crores for the discoms, it said This will further increase the liquidity crunch to Rs 45,000 to 50,000 crores, in addition to the Rs 90,000 crore dues pending by the discoms to generating companies' pre-lockdown, it said. "Recent experience suggests that a financial restructuring package without insistence on structural reforms leads to temporary alleviation of the problem in the sector followed by eventual recurrence of the core problems of liquidity. We therefore propose that the post COVID-era is the right time to undertake an ambitious overhaul of the sector...", said Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII in the report. The report highlighted that the thermal generators could face additional Rs 20,000 crore to 25,000 crore cash crunch. Renewable energy generators have been bearing the brunt of power curtailments, overdue payments by state discoms of Rs 10,000 crores and policy uncertainty, it said. Further, 20 to 25 per cent of debt of renewable energy projects comes from overseas lenders, to whom the 3-month moratorium by RBI will not apply, it pointed out. Transmission companies are facing delays in on-going projects as lockdown has affected the movement of manpower and supply resulting in delays and the manufacturing sector employing 20 lakh people across over 4000 SMEs could be at stake, it said. In such a scenario, it becomes increasingly important to inject liquidity in the sector to ensure continuous supply, power generation viability and robust industrial recovery post lockdown, it suggested. CII's white paper 'Sustaining India's Power and Renewable Energy Sector analyses impact of COVID-19 on the sector with the demand reduction coupled with delays in collections. Shot term measures include ensuring short-term liquidity management like creation of special line of credit through PFC/REC to discoms. Secondly, the government can allow deferral of payments of indirect taxes and for mitigating impact of delays in on-going renewable projects it suggested an increase in tariff. Under medium-term reforms measures, it suggested to develop a roadmap to implement cost-reflective tariffs and rationalized tariff structure with lower commercial and industrial tariffs. The central government could invest directly through a central holding company. It also asked to develop a central government-led funding scheme for accelerating the rollout of smart metering (investment of Rs 1.5 lakh crores over 4 to 5 years) and adoption of digital solutions for improving operational decision-making among discoms. It said that the liquidity crunch of discoms is likely to worsen during and post the lockdown, and the gap may grow by 20–25 percent. The sector is likely to require significant transition financing to mitigate the impact. The central power finance institutions (PFC, REC, and IREDA) should consider lending directly to discoms or to discount the discoms' outstanding dues using funds borrowed from banks or from their regular sources, it suggested.
