Metro tickets can be booked up to 120 days in advance, synchronized with Indian Railways' Advance Reservation Period (ARP), and are valid for four days, easing travel planning for passengers. One QR code per passenger will be printed/ available in the Electronic Reservation Slip of IRCTC. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and Centre For Railway Information Systems (CRIS) have joined hands, in the first-of-its-kind initiative, to revolutionize the seamless travel experience of the Main Line Railway and Metro Passengers in Delhi NCR area. The "Beta Version" of Delhi Metro Rail QR Code -based ticket was launched today thereby enabling main line <keyword id="21815012" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Railway-passengers" source="keywords">Railway passengers</keyword> to book DMRC QR Code Tickets on IRCTC Website and Android version of Mobile App. On this occasion Sanjay Kumar Jain, CMD, IRCTC, and Vikas Kumar, MD, DMRC said, "On the success of the Beta Version, the regular version of IRCTC-DMRC QR Code Ticket will be launched soon after." Currently, single-journey tickets for Delhi Metro can only be booked on the day of travel with same-day validity. With this facility, the DMRC-IRCTC QR code-based tickets will be synchronized with Indian Railways' Advance Reservation Period (ARP) allowing passengers to book even Metro tickets up to 120 days in advance. Further, the metro tickets will be valid for a single journey for four days starting from the day before the DMRC journey date, the travel date itself, and two days after the journey date. This joint initiative will enhance the travel experience of Railway passengers by allowing them to book Delhi Metro Tickets at the rail ticket confirmation page clubbing it either with the source or destination station falling in the Delhi/NCR region. The passengers can also book Delhi metro tickets at a later stage via the booking history page. Flexible Cancellations have also been ensured. Once the DMRC ticket is purchased by the railway passenger, one DMRC QR code per passenger will be printed/available in the Electronic Reservation Slip of IRCTC. The novel step will save valuable time for the rail passengers at DMRC stations by avoiding long queues while purchasing DMRC tickets.

"redRail is a rail ticket booking service launched by redBus, in collaboration with <keyword id="65866" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="irctc" source="Orion">IRCTC</keyword> (Indian Railway Catering and <keyword id="173658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tourism-corporation" source="Orion">Tourism Corporation</keyword>), as the authorised partner. Sangam mentioned that the app has been designed keeping in view the issues faced by users across the country. "For example, it is tested to operate smoothly, and book IRCTC Train Tickets, even in low internet bandwidth areas, on phones with low memory configuration and those running older Android versions. In addition to booking and viewing the tickets on the redRail App, customers can also check PNR confirmation status and live location of the train," Sangam said. "The app will keep the user updated periodically when there is a material change in the ticket confirmation status," he added. redBus launches 'redRail' app; aims to make railway travel experience easier

New Delhi, Motorola on Tuesday launched its latest <keyword id="28168" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Smartphone">smartphone</keyword> 'Moto G9 Power' with a massive 6000mAh battery for ₹11,999 in India. The smartphone will be available in two colour variants, the vivid electric violet and the sophisticated metallic sage. When asked if he has a time-frame in mind to monetize, Kotha agrees. “We’re experimenting on the best time to monetize. Our target is a million users. Currently we have around 2.7 lakh”, he says.

With the Android POS device, Paytm wants to aid small and medium enterprises automation. It also comes with features like ‘restaurant management’ which can accept orders and also alert the kitchen directly. Paytm said that IRCTC is already using the POS device in trains to bill food items. The launch of the POS device comes after Paytm launched an all-in-one QR code for merchants. Through this feature, merchants will be able to accept unlimited payments from Paytm Wallet, Rupay Cards and all UPI-based payment apps directly into their bank account without having to pay a processing fee. <keyword id="11544757" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="dr-aqsa-shaikh">Dr Aqsa Shaikh</keyword>, India’s first and only transwoman serving as a nodal officer at a vaccination centre, <a href="https://sprf.in/a-transpersons-odyssey-to-the-vaccine-booth-in-conversation-with-dr-aqsa-shaikh/">told the author</a> that vaccine hesitancy is the first and the tallest hurdle between an Indian trans person and their two doses. And hesitancy is only one of the many obstacles keeping trans persons from getting immunised. The month of June, also known as international pride month, marks half a year since the start of India’s vaccination programme. As of 30th June 2021, <a href="https://dashboard.cowin.gov.in/">32 crore Indians have gotten vaccinated.</a> Of the total number of people vaccinated, trans citizens constitute 55,886, meaning only 0.01% of the national population and 11.45% of the total transgender population. <div type="image" title="DSC02362-2" msid="83990497" hostid="261"></div> Such low numbers can be attributed to the systemic barriers and the vaccination drive chalking trans persons into the system as an afterthought. Each step towards getting immunised is replete with challenges for the community that already exists on the margins. The foremost barrier, namely vaccine hesitancy, comes from the transgender community's historically traumatic interaction with the Indian healthcare system. Many are denied medical treatment based on their gender. Those who do receive it find themselves up against insensitive registration procedures, hostile medical staff, inferior service, lack of facilities such as washrooms, among a plethora of other problems. Furthermore, the lack of trans-representation in vaccine trials inspires apprehension around how the vaccine would interact with hormone supplements, gender affirmative surgery, STIs or HIV-AIDS treatments. <a href="https://theprint.in/opinion/less-than-4-vaccinated-transgender-indians-have-been-othered-by-vaccines-and-forms/659091/">Alisha, a transwoman from Rajasthan</a>, illustrates this prevalent fear of side-effects by stating: “Didi we already are keeping ourselves indoors and what if something happens after vaccination? Even normal people are not getting beds in hospitals, who will bother about saving an orphan kinnar?” Aside from vaccine hesitancy, the CoWIN system erects many obstacles through its insistence on registering online through a smartphone. This digital divide worsens when combined with the trans community's <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/first-count-of-third-gender-in-census-4-9-lakh/articleshow/35741613.cms">54% illiteracy rate</a> and inaccessibility to smartphones or the internet. Even those who have technological access sign up only to discover that the vaccine registration form doesn’t offer a transgender category in the gender section. Instead, the application boxes anyone who doesn’t identify as cisgender into the "others" category. This othering goes against the 2014 NALSA judgment, which asserts that the State must undertake all necessary measures to mention a person’s self-affirmed gender correctly, especially when it's in the context of a mandated government policy. Dr Shaikh points out that the CoWIN site's choice to employ the word "others" is especially confusing since all official government IDs, from Aadhar Cards to IRCTC bookings, mention the correct term "Transgender Persons". The CoWIN form also insists on providing a photo ID proof upfront. However, for an average trans person, possessing a valid government document is a rarity since only <a href="https://nhrc.nic.in/sites/default/files/Study_HR_transgender_03082018.pdf">2% of trans individuals live with their parents</a>, most escape or are abandoned from their parental homes at an early age. A <a href="https://nhrc.nic.in/sites/default/files/Study_HR_transgender_03082018.pdf">2017 field survey</a> reports that in UP and Delhi, 16.6% of trans persons have Aadhar cards, 15.4% have voter cards, 2.1% driving licence, and 1.6% PAN cards in their own name. Those who don’t possess identification cards are reluctant to go through the process of obtaining one. Currently, the process doesn't recognise one's right to self-identify and demands a gender certificate. Under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act (2019), a trans-Indian may obtain the certification by 'proving' their gender identity to a District Magistrate. The procedure requires a revised certificate from a Medical Superintendent post-operation or any other proof of undergoing gender affirmative surgery. The system disregards that a majority of the community don't wish to undergo surgery or cannot afford to and places a trans person’s entire legal existence in a District Magistrate’s hands. Expecting anyone to undergo expensive operations to gain government identification without which they cannot access essential welfare services, such as getting vaccinated, borders violation of fundamental rights. The whole ordeal seems even more troubling when considering that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recognises the transgender community as a high-risk group. The community records the highest Human Immunodeficiency Viruses (HIV) infection rate among all high-risk groups in India. Some <a href="http://c-sharp.in/research_policy/Download/Health%20Care%20System%20Barriers%20Faced%20by%20Indian%20Transgender%20People%20In%20Accessing%20HIV_STI%20Prevention%20and%20Treatment,%20&amp;%20What%20Can%20Be%20Done.pdf">STI clinics record</a> a significant 44-45% positivity rate in the trans community. To put this into context, there are 1,100 HIV-positive trans persons for every one HIV-positive cisgender individual. HIV makes an individual more vulnerable to other viruses allowing deadly infections to thrive in one’s body for more extended periods than average. The situation demands a mix of short and long term policy measures. Long term goals such as socially and economically uplifting the community, improving literacy rates, repealing exclusionary laws such as the 2019 Transgender Persons Act, and allowing the right to self-affirm one's gender are the keys to overcoming systemic hurdles. However, more immediately, measures like vaccine awareness drives, vaccine registration programmes, home to home vaccinations, separate vaccination centres, and special officers responsible for the transgender person's immunisation would boost the vaccination rate in the trans community. Through this blend, India must work towards properly accommodating the trans community into the world’s largest vaccination drive. We enjoy such a seamless browsing experience on our mobile devices because of the <keyword id="6354741" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Apps">apps</keyword> that our smart devices come loaded with. And these apps, which bring convenience right at our fingertips, are getting bigger and better. All thanks to Microsoft, Apple and other tech giants who are delivering nothing but the best app experience to consumers on their mobile devices. 
 So, what next do they wish to deliver to Indian consumers? To understand this and to know more about the app market, we got into a candid conversation with <keyword id="1945241" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Joseph-Landes">Joseph Landes</keyword>, general manager, Developer &amp; Experience team, <keyword id="28250" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft-India">Microsoft India</keyword>. Here are the edited excerpts. 
 
What role does your team play in India? 
We help organisations pave their way to the future leveraging the latest technology available. (Pauses and then explains) Don’t you always wonder when you are driving around the country like who put up that bridge, how it actually got from here to over there – like hanging off the edge, building the pieces – so what sort of bridge builders there are today. Similarly, in tech ecosystem, when you know there’s a product coming out like Windows 10, it is essential for an organization to enable an ecosystem for Windows 10. Developers should be acquainted with what Windows 10 is all about and what they can do with it. And this is where we come in. As these organisations analyse what role new technology can play in their business, we help them create an enabling ecosystem. 
 
What level of maturity <keyword id="1914129" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft-apps">Microsoft apps</keyword> have achieved in the Indian market? 
I fondly remember I came to India 3 years back, when we were getting ready for the launch of Windows 8. Our real big focus was on getting the apps into the store because at that time we didn’t have a very reputable app store. We had an app store in place, but there weren’t much stuff in it. So to gain more footage in India, we concentrated on bridging the app gap that people felt is missing on our store. And after 3 years, I feel good where we are currently. Now, I can claim there’s no Indian app that Android has and we don’t have. 
 
Did you make any changes to your <keyword id="2800227" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-app-strategy">global app strategy</keyword> for India? 
As I said before, when we came to India what we wanted to do was to bridge the app gap. And that is precisely what we did: eradicated the local app gap that existed. Our objective is to ensure that Indians to have a ‘wow’ experience on their Windows phone and for this we ensure that all their favourite apps available on other OS platforms are also available on Windows market. 
 
So, how many apps are there on your store? And which among those are your top apps in India? 
Today, we’ve 550,000 apps in the Windows store and most of them are relevant to the Indian consumers often. Naming our top apps is slightly difficult, as I don’t have exact numbers to quote. But on the basis of my experience, I can say IRCTC, Flipkart and Jabong are the most popular India-specific apps. Times news app and Gaana is also popular among Indian audiences. Apps that gain exception traction are the seasonal apps. For instance, when movies like Chennai Express, Dhoom or Krrish hit the theatres, their apps got popular with masses. The sad part, however, is that they eventually die down after a period of time. Obviously, I didn’t include global apps like Facebook, which are popular with people across the globe. 
 
Would we get to see some vernacular Microsoft apps designed specifically for India? 
Well…vernacularity is not one of the big pillars that we want to focus on. Yes, it is a nice and important thing to have, and I can certainly ask developers to write apps that are relevant for their local language, but we don’t plan to do it extensively at this stage. 
As of now, our focus is to cloud enable apps and help developers make universal apps. 
 
Did you observe any differences in the Indian app market from the global market? 
Yes, there indeed is. For Indian audiences, the user interface, graphical interface, design...all matters. After having worked with Indian developers, I can undoubtedly say that they are very good in coding and technicalities—albeit there is some of improvement in terms of design. 
 
Having said that, I still believe, the next big app market would come from India. This country has got the talent that is needed to create wonderful apps like Angry Birds, Candy Crush or more such. I am just waiting to see a brand new gaming app from the Indian developers. 
 
Do Indian consumers app-buying pattern differs from the global audiences? 
The buying pattern in India is very different from many other countries of the world. Mostly, people want something cheaper. I am not generalising this, but this holds true. The trend here is that people are keener to have a free app with some in app purchase. If you look at Xbox, it comes free with some sort of in app purchase. 
 
However, I have seen purchase going up wherever there is direct operator billing system in place. 
 
And, finally what do is your take on the ongoing native vs Cloud mobile apps debate? 
For me, there is a symbiotic collaboration between mobility and cloud. Though native apps are great, I personally feel it will be Cloud mobile apps that would pave way to the future where smartphone won’t look that exciting unless it has great cloud servicing connectivity. Even today, some amazing cloud mobile apps are available on the MS platform. Be it Skype, Bing or One Drive Office 365 – all offer mobility and enable high productivity.
