<ul><li>According to Google’s statistics for <keyword id="351662" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ipv6" source="Orion">IPv6</keyword> adoption, India is currently in the lead globally.</li><li>It has achieved an <keyword id="11925088" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ipv6-adoption-rate" source="Orion">IPv6 adoption rate</keyword> of 61.23%.</li><li>IPv6 is the latest version of the Internet Protocol, and it will eventually succeed IPv4.</li></ul>More than half of India has migrated to IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6), the latest version of the Internet Protocol. India currently ranks the highest for IPv6 adoption globally, according to the <a href="https://www.google.com/intl/en/ipv6/statistics.html#tab=per-country-ipv6-adoption">latest statistics</a> collected by Google. India is leading with a 61.23% adoption rate of IPv6 so far, followed by Malaysia (54.76%) and French Guiana (52.34%). The IPv6 adoption rate has been seeing a steady increase currently hovering around 36% globally. India ranking the highest for IPv6 adoption means that here users experience very few issues when connecting to IPv6-enabled websites, according to the Google data. The government of India has been quite active in the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/enterprise/news/nixi-is-pushing-india-towards-wider-adoption-of-ipv6-to-fuel-digital-india/articleshow/82144714.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">adoption of IPv6 across the country</a>. It released the first roadmap of IPv6 adoption back in 2010 which required all major services providers to offer IPv6 services, and also state and central government departments to upgrade to IPv6. It later <a href="https://dot.gov.in/sites/default/files/2016_11_18%20IPv6%20NT.pdf">released</a> a second version of the IPv6 roadmap in 2013 which focused on the futuristic roles of IPv6, and a phased transition from IPv4 to IPv6. It has also made revisions to the timelines for IPv6 adoption among the important stakeholders. What is IPv6? IPv6 is the more advanced version of the Internet Protocol which will eventually replace IPv4. Every device connected to the internet requires its own IP address to communicate with other devices. IPv6 is the sixth revision of the Internet Protocol and it was created in 1998. Why the transition from IPv6 to IPv4? The main reason behind moving from IPv4 to IPv6 is the lack of addresses the former supports. IPv4 uses a 32-bit addressing system that currently supports around 4.3 billion addresses which is clearly not enough given the number of devices and internet users growing around the world. This is where IPv6 comes in as it uses a 128-bit addressing system which makes it possible to support more devices. In numbers, IPv6 can support up to 340 trillion trillion devices which is 2 to the 128th power for math geeks. The difference between IPv4 and IPv6 can be seen in the numbering system. IPv4 uses four sets of one to three-digit numbers (152.17.234.1) whereas IPv6 uses eight groups of four hexadecimal digits (2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334) that are separated by colons. IPv6 comes with more benefits over IPv4 such as better performance, auto configuration of devices and increased security. The drop in funding is majorly due to the absence of late-stage investments. Seed-stage funding in Q1 2023 fell 21 per cent as against Q1 2022 but jumped 444 per cent from Q4 2022. Early-stage investments in the first quarter of 2023 rose 158 per cent when compared with Q4 2022, but dropped 64 per cent from Q1 2022, the report noted. The sector attracted investments worth $21 million in Q1 2023, compared with $3.86 million in Q4 2022 and $26.5 million in Q1 2022. "The space is seeing minimal or no activity in terms of unicorns and IPOs. In 2022 and 2023 till date, no new unicorn companies were created in this space," the report mentioned. No IPOs have taken place in 2023 so far, while 2022 witnessed one company and 2021 witnessed two companies going public. Mobile Internet connects not just individuals, but also B2B (business to business) with speed, accuracy and convenience. Almost all facets of life are carried out through the Internet and today’s smartphone is a handy connector. Once an elitist gadget, today smartphone costing as low as US $ 35 along with the spread of Internet connectivity has resulted in a robust growth of mobile Internet economy. 
 
In the fastest growing developing economies of the Asia Pacific region (Australia, China, India, Japan and South Korea) mobile Internet revenue is more than double that of Europe’s top five economies and at US $ 300 billion it tops even the US. Astounding growth rates in these nations are expected to push their mobile Internet revenue by double to US $ 622 billion, with a 40% revenue increase in India. 
By 2018 India’s m-commerce is expected to grow from US $ 12 billion in 2013 to US $ 25 billion.

Along with GDP growth, employment also will increase and by 2020 Latin America and Asia Pacific regions will benefit enormously. Studies by <keyword id="6354424" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Bank">World Bank</keyword> have shown that even a 10% increase in mobile Internet reach in low to middle income nations, can push their GDP up by 1.4% 
 
Applications and Scope 
Mobile Internet is the only means of connecting with the Internet in far flung places and is useful in many industries like transportation, warehousing, health care etc. Mobile Internet is adaptable. It can be used on an individual, small scale or on large scale. It is interesting that 60% of global mobile users rely on their mobiles as the sole means for Internet access. 
 
Usage covers personal, business, education, heath, energy, transportation, warehousing, travel and tourism to name a few. 
 
Authentication through mobile pins for secure payments online is a very important service. Internet banking and Mobile banking where one need not even have a physical account is surprisingly growing faster in developing countries as compared to developed economies. Deposit a check by taking a picture and forwarding it to your bank. Increasingly real physical interaction is being reduced; it cuts costs and also increases efficiency. 
 Payment apps are making physical money exchange passé and several businesses like Uber, GoCardless etc have adopted them. A host of <keyword id="6354241" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Financial-Services">financial services</keyword> like insurance etc. will go mobile. 
 
Mobile internet is also a useful technical tool. A mobile enabled remote monitors Grundfos LifeLink’s mobile enabled solar powered water pump to provide safe drinking water in small communities. 
 
Marketing and Mobile Ads help retailers to attract more customers. Walmart reported around 10-15% ‘Mobile Purchases’ at its stores. 
 Walmart CEO <keyword id="846055" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Doug-McMillon">Doug McMillon</keyword> said at the 2014 Code Conference that his company was moving to ‘geo-fence’ and ‘price -promote’ store by store. The idea was to turn each of its 11,000 stores into a multi-channel shopping environment with its own product and price promotions. 
 
Consumer Surplus Benefit 
Today’s smartphone is not just a phone. It is a multipurpose device with multiple uses. You can stream videos, music, shop online, do Internet Banking, use it as a Mobile Wallet, connect with social sites. And with the mind boggling range of Apps you can connect anywhere and with almost any other gadget in the world. 
 
This additional service value is called ‘Consumer Surplus’ and as per BCG ‘it is the perceived value that consumers themselves believe they receive, over and above what they pay for devices, apps, services, and access’. 
 
BCG’s study of thirteen countries (Australia, Brazil, China, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain, UK and the US) contributing 70% of global GDP indicated that the ‘Consumer Surplus’ benefit was to the tune of US $ 3.5 trillion per annum averaging to US $ 4000 per individual. The study also records that the individual surplus was US $ 5600 for developed countries and US $ 2250 for developing countries. This is indeed a high return of investment. 
 
Innovations and Applications 
Mobile Internet will move from person-to-person to person-to-machine and machine-to-machine, integrating physical space with cyberspace. Your mobile can now control your home, lighting and alarm system, record your favorite TV programs, turn on the garden sprinkler etc. A network of seismometers and tide gauges will detect abnormal pressure variations suggesting a possible tsunami or an earthquake and issue real time warning to the communities. 
 
Soon ‘point and click’ technology will be replaced with the ‘point and think’ systems. 
 
Adoption of IPv6 will provide an Internet address for every device, sensor and person and through better network management and security offer better mobile experience. 
 
Through continuous innovation and increased working efficiency the mobile Internet is a definite asset to the global economy.
