It will continue till tomorrow, and viewers can tune into Star Sports network on television and the JioCinema App. A total of 574 players were released by the respective franchise ahead of the mega auction. Of the 574 players, 366 are Indian, while 208 are overseas, including three from associate nations. The auction will see 318 Indian uncapped players and 12 uncapped overseas players in contention. There are 204 slots available, with 70 reserved for overseas players. The highest reserve price is set at Rs 2 crore, with 81 players opting for this bracket. The largest segment comprises players with a base price of Rs 30 lakh, totalling 320. In his IPL career, he has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) from his debut in 2017, taking 93 wickets in 93 matches at an average of 30.34. Since 2018, he has been a vital part of RCB's pace attack, having taken 83 wickets in 87 matches at an average of 31.45 and best figures of 4/21. After being excluded from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) central contract this year after not participating for red-ball cricket, this is another big setback for Kishan, who has not been considered for international cricket despite participating and doing well in red-ball tournaments like Buchi Babu Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Ranji Trophy recently. <h2>DC era 2.0 on cards?</h2> With wicketkeeper-batter and biggest superstar of the franchise, Pant released from the franchise and looking for a new franchise as per several media reports, Delhi Capitals could be moving to their 2.0 era, placing trust in young, under-the radar names like Axar Patel (235 runs with two fifties and 11 wickets in 2024), Tristan Stubbs (378 runs with three fifties and three wickets), Abhishek Porel (327 runs with two fifties) and Kuldeep Yadav (16 wickets at an average of 23.25) after good performances last year. While many argue his batting stats of 351 runs in 14 innings with two fifties at a strike rate of 146.86 could be a reason behind his release, the other half of the story is that the in-form KKR top-order did not leave the middle-order with much to do. Irrespective of what the reason could be, one thing is for sure, Iyer is up there with likes of Adam Gilchrist (released by Deccan Chargers in 2011 after title win in 2009, semifinal finish in 2010), David Warner (released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of 2022 season despite 2016 title win and multiple playoff finishes) as one of the most unluckiest captains in IPL. <h2>Strong faith in Indian uncapped/inexperienced stars</h2>The franchises have been extremely bold this time around, opting to release experienced, household Indian/overseas names and placing their trust in several Indian uncapped/inexperienced players. Out of a total of 46 players retained across all franchises, 36 players are Indian. Out of these, 10 players are uncapped Indians stars. These players are Abhishek Porel, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mohsin Khan, Ayush Badoni, Shashank Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, Yash Dayal. Also, out of other 24 capped Indians, 13 players have played less than 30 international matches and eight have played 10 or less international games for India. Of these 24 uncapped players, no one has all format experience for India and only two have Test cricket experience, Dhruv Jurel and <keyword id="20022019" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajat-patidar" source="keywords">Rajat Patidar</keyword>. Notably, it is Jurel, who has just played international matches for India, who has received the biggest pay hike, going from Rs 20 lakh this season to Rs 14 crores next season. <h2>End of 'KGF' era for Royal Challengers Bengaluru?</h2> With stars like Faf and Maxwell released, it could spell the end of 'Kohli, Glenn, Faf' (KGF) era for <keyword id="20282652" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rcb" source="keywords">RCB</keyword>, which lasted from 2022-24. During this phase, they all scored heavily for RCB. Despite a lull in 2022 season, Virat scored 1,721 runs in 45 matches and innings at an average of 44.12, with three centuries and 13 fifties. Skipper Faf also scored 1,636 runs in 45 innings at an average of 38.05, with a strike rate of 146.99 and 15 fifties to his name. Maxwell sits at the third spot with 1,266 runs at an average of 28.77 and a strike rate of over 159, with 12 half-centuries in 50 innings. The only player that came closer to the trio was Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik, who made 796 runs in 44 matches and 42 innings at an average of 29.48, with three fifties. If RCB had Virat-AB de Villiers-Chris Gayle in 2010s, KGF dominated the RCB batting numbers in 2020s. What has impressed Lara is Jaiswal's ability to change gears as per the situation of the game. "If I feel my records are threatened, Jaiswal has got a very good chance to do so. He has got capabilities, couple of double hundreds already. He is that good," Lara told PTI editors at its headquarters in an interaction arranged by Star Sports where he is a commentator and expert for the ongoing IPL. Lara, who recently turned 55, is one of the all-time greats of the game having amassed close to 12, 000 runs in Tests and over 10,000 runs in ODIs. The first time I met him (last year), I immediately found myself attached to him. "After the game (SRH vs Royals), I went to the hotel with a friend of mine from the Caribbean who knew Jos Buttler. It was midnight and Jaiswal found me. I promise you I left the hotel at 4 in the morning. "He just wanted to hear more and more and more. That is one of his amazing traits. His ability to want to learn as much as possible. Our conversations are about trying to make him a better cricketer. I am available for anyone that has my number. I am happy to talk cricket." Being a left-hander himself, it is natural for Lara to be biased towards that tribe. Another southpaw he has great admiration for is <keyword id="19950756" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Abhishek-Sharma" source="keywords">Abhishek Sharma</keyword> with whom he spent time at SRH. "Again he is someone who I met while I was batting coach of SRH. I spent two years there. I am allowed to a bit biased when I see a left-hander, I just love a left-hander. And you look at the guys over the years who have challenged that 300-mark and plus. It's Chris Gayle. It's Virender Sehwag. It's Sanath Jayasuriya, It's Inzamam-ul-Haq. It's Matthew Hayden. These are guys who destroy bowling attacks. "...you would not say that for a Rahul Dravid or Steve Smith in the present case. But a player who likes to score quickly, will have an opportunity. You know, Jaiswal, I mean, I was in Australia when <keyword id="19948689" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="David-Warner" source="keywords">David Warner</keyword> came close and you know, he's an aggressive player. "So I believe yes, I think it will be broken at some point in time. I think it has to be that person's destiny. Everything has to fall into place. And... I look forward to that time. I hope it happens, while I'm still around," he said. The Viacom18 secured the Women's Indian Premier League (<keyword id="6354312" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ipl" source="Orion">IPL</keyword>) media rights value for the 2023-2027 cycle for a whopping Rs 951 crore which means per match value of INR 7.09 crore for next 5 years. The <keyword id="6354756" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bcci" source="Orion">BCCI</keyword> will unveil the five <keyword id="4804667" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="wipl" source="Orion">WIPL</keyword> franchises on January 25. The news comes as a massive development for women's cricket on Monday as <keyword id="15065481" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="women-indian-premier-league" source="Orion">Women Indian Premier League</keyword> (WIPL) media rights was auctioned. The news was confirmed by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary <keyword id="210899" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="jay-shah" source="Orion">Jay Shah</keyword> on his Twitter account on Monday. "Congratulations @viacom18 for winning the Women's @IPL media rights. Thank you for your faith in @BCCI and @BCCIWomen. Viacom has committed INR 951 crores which means per match value of INR 7.09 crores for next 5 years (2023-27). This is massive for Women's Cricket," Jay Shah tweeted on Monday. Viacom has pledged INR 951 crore, and INR 7.09 crore for each match, for the next five years. The Women's T20 Challenge was initially held as an exhibition tournament, but the BCCI last year eventually made the decision to introduce the WIPL, with the first season's opening match scheduled for March. The BCCI has not officially released the tournament's schedule, but it is widely believed that the first season, which would consist of 22 matches, will take place between March 5 and March 23. Uncapped cricketers have been given two alternatives, while players with caps--those who have represented India or are currently on a central contract--can select either Rs. 30 lakh, Rs. 40 lakh, or Rs. 50 lakh as their base pricing (Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 20 lakh). Prior to the WIPL, the base price has been separated into five categories, ranging from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 50 lakh. The auction's registration cutoff date is January 26. Viacom18 wins Women's IPL media rights for ₹951 crore for 2023-27

Following a defeat against Chennai Super Kings (<keyword id="19896464" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="csk" source="keywords">CSK</keyword>) in the Indian Premier League (<keyword id="19906063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ipl" source="keywords">IPL</keyword>) 2024, Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper <keyword id="19929450" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shubman-gill" source="keywords">Shubman Gill</keyword> was fined as his team maintained a slow over rate during the first innings of the match on Tuesday. The fortress at Chepauk stood untouched as the CSK registered a comprehensive 63-run win over the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2024 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. "Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 26," said IPL in an official statement. Coming to Gill, his form has dipped after taking over the captaincy of the Gujarat franchise as he has not been able to score runs that consistently. The right-hand opener scored 31 runs in the first match against five-time champion Mumbai Indians and was able to score just 8 runs against the defending champions CSK. IPL 2024: Sunrisers Hyderabad appoint Pat Cummins as captain for upcoming season

As of now, IPL's brand value stands at 10.7 billion dollars, as compared to 8.4 billion dollars in 2022, thus registering an increase by 28%. A report by brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance said the total brand value of the IPL has surged by 433 per cent since its launch in 2008. It added that the IPL's significant growth is attributed to factors including a media rights deal amounting to 6.2 billion dollars (INR 48,390 crore), an increase in the central pool of IPL revenues, the addition of two franchise teams, and the return to full stadium attendance in 2023 after the Covid-19 pandemic. It further said five-time champions Mumbai Indians have emerged as the most valuable IPL brand at 87 million dollars, followed by fellow five-time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which is now the second most valuable brand with a value of 81 million dollars. Other franchises in the top five list include two-time winners <keyword id="262945" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kolkata-knight" source="Orion">Kolkata Knight</keyword> Riders (KKR) and <keyword id="6354506" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="royal-challengers-bangalore" source="Orion">Royal Challengers Bangalore</keyword> (RCB) at 78.6 million dollars and 69.8 million dollars, respectively. IPL 2022 winners Gujarat Titans (GT) showed a huge increase in its brand value ranking with a 38 percent growth and securing the fifth position, which is a jump from the eighth-place last year. <keyword id="13023526" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="lucknow-super-giants" source="Orion">Lucknow Super Giants</keyword> (LSG) are at the eighth position with a brand value of 47 million dollars and is now the fastest-growing IPL brand, up by 48 percent. IPL franchises are also continuing to expand their global presence, as the franchise leagues ecosystem is estimated to have a brand value of 1 billion dollars, extending their visibility in the year. All of that will soon go away, though, causing plenty of heartburn among subscribers. "Starting March 31, HBO content will be unavailable on Disney+ Hotstar. With HBO also leaving the platform, Disney+ Hotstar could see over a quarter of its subscribers fleeing. “In terms of the recent HBO content moving out of Hotstar, we estimate the subscriber loss moving towards the upper end (around 25-30% in total), of the 61.5 million subscribers at peak,” Taurani added. This would bring Disney+ Hotstar’s subscriber base in the 43-46 million range by the end of 2023. It’s why the company brought back Bob Iger from retirement and asked him to course-correct – Iger’s first action was to lay out a $5.5 billion cost-cutting plan. While Disney lost IPL to Reliance’s Viacom18 before Iger was brought back, it did not really make much from its subscribers in India – according to the company’s December 2022 quarter results, Disney+ Hotstar subscribers contributed $0.74 per user per month on average, significantly lower than the $5.95 contribution from Disney+ subscribers in the US and Canada. The Disney+ Hotstar service is available only in India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. Netflix, which is far more expensive than Disney+ Hotstar in India, reported an average revenue per member of $7.69 in the Asia Pacific region. This is after a 25% reduction in its subscription prices, which now start from as low as ₹149 per month for the most basic plan, translating to ₹1,788 per year. Netflix’ top-tier plan costs ₹7,788 per year. In contrast, the most expensive Disney+ Hotstar plan costs ₹1,499 per year. Essentially, Disney+ Hotstar’s most premium plan is still cheaper than Netflix’ most basic plan. On the other hand, Viacom18, which bagged the lucrative IPL streaming rights for ₹23,758 crore, will provide 4K streaming for free via the JioCinema app. The way forward for Disney+ Hotstar is aggressive investments in creating original content, according to Taurani. However, it needs to click with subscribers who were so far used to HBO’s popular catalogue.
