According to a report by IDC, 39.6 million tablets were shipped worldwide in Q3 2024, up from 32.9 million devices shipped in Q3 2023. While the tablet market is not expected to reach the levels recorded during the pandemic with an increase in online education and work-from-home, the increase in shipments is part of a refresh cycle. "There are several appealing opportunities for vendors to increase their presence in the tablet market - collaboration with educational institutions, entertainment and gaming, cross-device Worldwide tablet shipments grow by 20.4% in Q3 2024, Apple leads with over 31% market share

Besides, it has also re-energized its sales and marketing focus while continuing expansion into newer markets and consolidating its position in existing markets,” said Tarun Pathak, Research Director, Counterpoint Research. “While entry-to-mid-tier devices continue to show strong performance for Xiaomi, it has also made inroads into the premium segment with foldable and ‘ultra’ devices,” Pathak added. Xiaomi emerges as the world’s second-biggest smartphone brand in August

Tablet shipments hit a 12-year low declining by over 20% in 2023

According to a PTI report, an official source familiar with the matter confirmed that the import management system will be extended. According to the official, these imports stood at $8.4 billion in 2023-24 against the authorisation of about $9.5 billion. The official also added that most of these imports were from China. In October 2023, the government had rolled out an import management/ authorisation for imports of laptops, personal computers and certain other IT hardware products. The system is aimed at monitoring inbound shipments of these items into the country without hurting market supply. “The current system, which the government calls the Inventory Management System, essentially a registration programme, expires on September 30. We don't know what's going to happen after that, because even trusted companies are required to register their products and get import permissions. There's a real risk that if this programme isn’t reinstated, all of these products are going to be cut off,” said Jason Oxman, President, Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) earlier this month. On November 1, 2023, the government cleared over 100 applications, including those of Apple, Dell and Lenovo, which sought permission for imports of these IT hardware products worth nearly USD 10 billion, on the first day of implementation of the new system. "A formal request is coming for an extension of the existing system. With a three month extension, this whole year will be covered. So this current year, I do not see any disruption," the official said. Government expected to extend the import management system for laptops and tablets for three months

The country's drugs and <keyword id="20006091" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharmaceuticals" source="keywords">pharmaceuticals</keyword> exports increased 9.67 per cent year-on-year to USD 27.9 billion in 2023-24, even as the total exports dipped by 3 per cent in the last fiscal. In 2022-23, the exports stood at USD 25.4 billion. The top five export markets, for the sector during the last fiscal, are the US, the UK, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Brazil. The US accounts for over 31 per cent of <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword>'s total pharma exports, followed by the UK and Netherlands (about 3 per cent each). In 2023-24, the outbound shipments also entered new geographies like Montenegro, South Sudan, Chad, Comoros, Brunei, Latvia, Ireland, Chad, Sweden, Haiti and Ethiopia. An industry expert said that increasing market opportunities and healthy demand in countries like the US are helping exports to record healthy growth rates month after month. Experts have said that India's pharmaceutical business may exceed USD 130 billion by 2030, supported by expanding market opportunities and heightened demand in the overseas markets. The business stood at over USD 50 billion for the 2022-23. On average, India exports pharma products worth USD 2-3 billion every month. India's pharmaceutical industry is the third largest by volume and the 13th largest by value in the world, producing more than 60,000 <keyword id="20581305" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="generic-drugs" source="keywords">generic drugs</keyword> across 60 therapeutic categories. India's pharma exports rise 10% to $27.9 bn in FY24

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Apple will make its biggest hardware launch in a decade once the Vision Pro goes on sale this week.</li><li>As with any big hardware launch, Apple will need developers onside to help make it a success.</li></ul>When Apple launches the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/apple-vision-pro-order-price-release-date-features">Vision Pro</a> on Friday, it could really do with developers lapping it up.Since introducing its App Store in 2008 with 500 apps, the company has depended on developers to come up with apps that help turn products like the iPhone, Mac, and iPad into a consumer hit. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://affiliate.insider.com?h=7265a5f69331f1e9873b188bb7f691191d2b41d1364f0c5bbe160bbf76005c13&amp;postID=65b7a40785420bcd666776c8&amp;postSlug=vision-pro-needs-apps-but-apple-seems-to-be-at-odds-with-developers-2024-1&amp;site=bi&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.apple.com%2Fuk%2Fapp-store%2F">Apps now number almost two million.</a>The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tim-cook-behind-the-scenes-video-apple-vision-pro-manufacturing-2024-1">$3,500 headset</a> will mark a new era of uncertainty for the company once it goes on sale in the US this week. It's an era in which it will attempt to gain traction for mixed reality technologies that are yet to hit the mainstream.Given the price tag, Apple watchers aren't expecting the Vision Pro to fly off the shelves immediately. Some analysts <a target="_blank" href="https://www.canalys.com/insights/apple-vision-pro-growth">expect unit shipments to max out at 350,000 this year</a> – a figure that will add little to the $383 billion Apple made in revenue in 2023.To spur future consumer sales then, Apple really needs developers onside to help make the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-gives-new-demos-for-vision-pro-2024-1">Vision Pro</a> a success. They'll need to be ready and willing to build for the new "spatial computing" paradigm Apple wants to popularize.Right now, though, developers are infuriated with the company.<h2>'A masterclass in distortion'</h2><div type="image" title="Apple Vision Pro being demoed at an Apple Store." height="1116" width="1940" msid="107238306" hostid="261" sizebytes="80640"></div>Apple made a bunch of changes to its App Store in the European Union last week <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-app-store-shakeup-in-europe-triggers-fury-2024-1">that developers say hurts them.</a>The changes, implemented to comply with the bloc's Digital Markets Act, allow third-party digital stores onto Apple's operating systems. In theory, it means developers aren't strictly limited to releasing their apps to Apple users through its own App Store.Reasons cited by developers for wanting to skirt Apple's App Store are plenty but primarily relate to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/app-store-developers-can-skirt-30-fee-outside-links-court-2023-4">a 30% commission</a> that Apple has historically taken on any apps that are bought and sold through its digital marketplace.That's why the second change introduced by Apple is a cut on that commission from 30% to 17%, plus a 3% fee for payment processing.On the surface, these changes <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-app-store-shakeup-in-europe-triggers-fury-2024-1#:~:text=Apple%20just%20did%20something%20unthinkable,with%20a%20new%20EU%20law.">appear to be wins for developers</a>. They were made, after all, in response to laws that designated the App Store's usual way of operating as unfair and anticompetitive.But developers have been quick to note how the changes come with a lot of strings attached that make life very difficult for them.Spotify boss Daniel Ek said last week to suggest that the new rules were a <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/eldsjal/status/1750988507345039765?s=20">"masterclass in distortion"</a> thanks to a new fee structure introduced by Apple that "looks attractive on the surface but has potentially even higher fees" for developers to cough up. The fee structure Ek mentioned specifically refers to a new €0.50 fee that must be paid by developers for each "first annual install per year over a 1 million threshold.""In Apple's 'new' world, the fees could be astronomical. Picture this: A popular free app with tens or hundreds of millions EU users, now faces a tax on every download and update annually," Ek wrote in an X post.Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, meanwhile, pointed to fine print that shows how Apple will still control which third-party apps are allowed to compete with it."They could block Epic from launching the Epic Games Store and distributing Fortnite through it, for example, or block Microsoft, Valve, Good Old Games, or new entrants," <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/TimSweeneyEpic/status/1750589570880516402?s=20">Sweeney wrote.</a>Developers souring on Apple is not something the company will want ahead of its biggest product launch in a decade.Apple has said that the changes comply with the DMA, and that it has "created new tools for developers, such as a fee calculator and developer documentation" to help them understand the new policies.Apps currently being built for the Vision Pro won't be impacted immediately by the rule changes in the EU either, as the Vision Pro will only go on sale in the US to begin with.However, frustrations shared by the likes of Ek and Sweeney suggest developers won't be placated so easily once it does go on sale there.More broadly, it puts Apple and developers at odds with each other at a moment when Apple really needs apps for Vision Pro. As <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/markgurman/status/1748908511579471899?s=20">Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported last week</a>, roughly 230 native apps are ready for release.If Apple wants more, it may need to address developer concerns about App Store changes more directly.

But other product lines should see a decline in revenue growth."We expect double-digit revenue declines in iPad (-22% year-over-year) and Wearables, Home, and Accessories (-14%) on difficult year-ago comps that benefited from new product launches," Goldman Sachs said.Meanwhile, the bank expects Apple's Services revenue to grow 11%, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/streamer-apple-tv-hulu-netflix-disney-raise-subscription-prices-2023-10">driven by recent price increases</a> and a pickup in App Store sales."We'd expect Services revenue to benefit from increasing penetration of all services, particularly iCloud+ as data consumption growth outpaces device storage and AppleCare+ as devices become more expensive and the mix of direct sales (and opportunities to sell AppleCare+ directly) increases," Goldman said.Goldman Sachs rates Apple at "Buy" with a $223 price target.<h3>JPMorgan: 'Margins can move the stock'</h3>Profit results should have a bigger impact on Apple's stock price than revenue, according to a recent note from <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/jpm-stock">JPMorgan</a>."Premiumization of the iPhone with price mix tailwinds along with tight cost management are helping Hardware margins, and the mix change to Services will contribute further to the margin improvement which could drive upside to the gross margin guidance of 45%-46% outlined for F1Q24, particularly when keeping the volume leverage in mind," JPMorgan said.The bank said investors should have largely moved past concerns about iPhone sales weakness, with recent data points such as Apple rising past Samsung to become the global market leader in smartphone shipments offering encouragement."With the robust sell-in volumes in F1Q24, current expectations from investors have moved to a modest beat led by robust iPhone numbers, even though accompanied on the flip-side by above-seasonal iPhone decline into F2Q," JPMorgan said.JPMorgan rates Apple at "Overweight" with a $225 price target.<h3>Wedbush: 'Another prove me moment for Cook and Cupertino'</h3>Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said Apple will likely beat its first-quarter revenue and profit estimates on Thursday even with growing investor concerns about its iPhone sales."The big focus on the Street naturally will be on iPhone and double-digit growth for Services revenue which we both believe performed relatively well during the holiday quarter as the $68 billion iPhone revenue bogey and $23 billion Services estimate are hittable/beatable," Ives said in a note on Wednesday.China iPhone sales, which represent about 20% of the company's total iPhone sales, will be a big focus on the earnings call <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-iphone-bestselling-smartphone-china-huawei-2024-1">as competition from Huawei increases</a> — but according to Ives, sales trends have been steady."So far iPhone demand has been stable in China with some pockets of relative strength on the high end around upgrade opportunities along with some isolated weakness in the third party retail channel. We estimate ~100 million iPhones are in the window of an upgrade opportunity in China which has been a tailwind helping offset some of the Huawei competitive pressures in mainland China," Ives said.Wedbush rates Apple at "Outperform" with a $250 price target.<h3>Bloomberg Intelligence: 'China iPhone sales likely to signal pressure'</h3>Apple's iPhone sales in China have faced several headwinds in recent months <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-economy-evergrande-property-collapse-deflation-weak-growth-xi-jinping-2024-1#:~:text=Fragile%20growth,official%20figures%20released%20this%20month.">as weakness in the Chinese economy has become more apparent,</a> and that could have an impact on Apple's first-quarter results."Apple's 1Q results will likely indicate iPhone sales pressure in the greater China region amid increased competition from Huawei and reduced consumer spending," Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Anurag Rana said in a recent note. Rana also wrote that in addition to commentary about potential App Store changes due to regulations, investors will be eager to hear about progress in the launch of the Vision Pro. Rana estimates that Apple could generate $1.5 billion in Vision Pro sales this year.
