<ul><li>The ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has attracted some interesting new technology solutions.</li><li>One of those is a <keyword id="12875606" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Smart-dog-collar" source="Orion">smart dog collar</keyword> that promises to be the <keyword id="1577486" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="apple-watch" source="Orion">Apple Watch</keyword> for your canine friends.</li><li>It can track vital health statistics and the location of your pet dog.</li></ul>2020 has made us all understand the importance of monitoring our health and staying fit, but what about humanity’s best friend – dogs? Many of us struggle with understanding the health of our doggo friends, and this smart <keyword id="112910" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dog-collar" source="Orion">dog collar</keyword> tries to address this issue to an extent.<br /><br />At the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show 2022 (CES), <keyword id="12875605" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="invoxia" source="Orion">Invoxia</keyword> has come up with a smart dog collar that can monitor the health of dogs and also keep us updated with their current location. This can be useful when you are away at work and want to ensure that your pet is safe back home.<br /><br />To be certain, pet trackers are not new. We’ve seen some announced back in 2017 as well, so the location tracking part is not entirely the selling point of Invoxia’s smart dog collar.<br /><br />However, what gets our attention is the fact that the collar can also monitor vital stats of dogs, like resting heart and respiratory rates.<br /><br />To be able to do this, the Invoxia smart dog collar uses a series of radar sensors that obtain the required readings when the collar is worn. The company says it has worked with certified veterinary cardiologists to develop a deep learning artificial intelligence (AI), which combined with the sensors, takes the relevant readings from the neck of your canine friend.<br /><br />Apart from this, the collar can also track activities like walking, running, sleeping, barking, eating, drinking and even scratching.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="Invoxia smart dog collar" msid="88681527" hostid="261"></div><br />All these tracked activities and health data are synchronised to a companion app on your smartphone, with neat charts and graphics. The collar supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and LTE connectivity, so you can remotely monitor your dog’s health and activities.<br /><br />There’s a catch, though – the collar is currently available only for mid to large-sized dogs. Invoxia says this is because it’s difficult to shrink the size of the collar due to the sensors being used. So your cats and miniature poodle will have to wait, for now.<br /><br />The Invoxia smart dog collar comes with a price tag of $99 (approx. ₹7,400). This smart collar lets you track your dog’s health and location

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>It looks like Alexa will be able to call up your friends sometime soon.<p>Earlier this month, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/amazon-google-dial-up-plans-to-turn-smart-speakers-into-home-phones-1487154781" target="_blank">The Wall Street Journal reported</a> that both Amazon and Google were looking to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-echo-google-home-phone-calls-2017-2" target="_blank">bring voice-calling features</a> to their respective smart speakers, the Echo and the Home, later this year.</p><p>Now, <a href="http://www.recode.net/2017/3/3/14766486/new-amazon-alexa-echo-phone-calls-intercom-system-video" target="_blank">Recode's Jason Del Rey reports</a> that Amazon is looking to introduce "one or more new Alexa-powered devices" that can make phone calls by the end of the year.</p><p>Exactly how the calling functionality will work - i.e., if it'll integrate with your existing phone number, or if it'll use internet-based VoIP tech similar to Skype - still isn't clear. But Recode, citing "multiple sources," says the new hardware is expected to be announced "in the coming months" and that it'll also introduce a new sort of intercom system that lets you talk directly with other Alexa devices.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>As the report notes, this kind of intercom functionality already exists in an Alexa-powered device <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nucleus-smart-video-intercom-amazon-echo-alternative-review-2016-11" target="_blank">called the Nucleus</a> today. Amazon even <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nucleus-raises-5-million-amazon-alexa-fund-2016-9" target="_blank">helped raise $5.6 million</a> for Nucleus last year through its Alexa Fund, which invests in startups that integrate Alexa into their products. Other Alexa devices like Invoxia's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-echo-alexa-bluetooth-speaker-guide-2016-5" target="_blank">Triby</a> are also able to make phone calls, albeit in a more limited manner than what's being reported here.<p>That said, none of those third-party machines are as widely recognized as Amazon's Echo family of speakers, which has proven <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-echo-sales-figures-stats-chart-2016-12" target="_blank">surprisingly popular</a> for the e-commerce giant. The Alexa assistant that powers those devices has gained third-party app support <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-alexa-skills-echo-chart-2017-2" target="_blank">at a tremendous pace</a>, but still suffers from a lack of widely useful features, which has led most device owners to use <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/what-people-do-with-amazon-echo-chart-2017-2" target="_blank">Alexa for simple tasks</a>. Adding voice calls would seem to help, but it would also probably heighten privacy <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-alexa-recordings-murder-investigation-2017-2" target="_blank">concerns</a> over the always-listening devices, too.</p><p>Bloomberg <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-11-29/amazon-said-to-plan-premium-alexa-speaker-with-large-screen?utm_content=tech&amp;utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;cmpid%3D=socialflow-twitter-tech" target="_blank">reported last November</a> that Amazon was working on a "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-echo-2-speaker-touchscreen-report-2016-11" target="_blank">premium Echo-like speaker</a>" with a touchscreen display. Amazon may release new 'Alexa-powered' devices that make phone calls later this year

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Amazon</span></p><p class="caption">Amazon's Echo</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Sonos and Alexa would be a match made in heaven. </p><p>That's because the biggest problem with Sonos' line of wifi connected speakers - which sound great - is that playing music can be a chore. </p><p>To play something on Sonos, you need to open the app on your phone, tablet, or computer, find the song, radio station, or podcast, and tell the system which speaker you want to play it.</p><p>Contrast that with the simplicity of playing something on Amazon Echo, the highly-regarded connected speaker from Amazon. Echo, and soon <a href="http://www.techinsider.io/how-to-preorder-amazon-echo-dot-despite-restriction-2016-3">Echo Dot</a> and <a href="http://www.techinsider.io/everything-you-need-to-know-about-amazon-tap-2016-3">Amazon Tap</a>, harness the power of Alexa, Amazon's cloud-based voice service, so you can simply utter the word "Alexa" to ask the device to do a host of tasks for you, including playing music, setting an alarm, summoning an Uber, or even ordering a pizza. </p><p>But here's the thing - it's totally possible for Sonos to integrate Alex in Echo, and the company wouldn't have to pay anything. In June, <a href="http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=176060&amp;p=irol-newsArticle&amp;ID=2062551">Amazon announced the Alexa Skills Set</a>, a program for developers and hardware makers to integrate Alex's voice-driven capabilities to their devices.  </p><p>That means that any hardware company can essentially use Alexa for free.</p><p>Invoxia, a French telecom company, has <a href="http://www.invoxia.com/en/taxonomy/term/30">said that it's incorporating Alexa into future versions of its Triby</a>, a connected speaker for the kitchen (it has a magnet on the back so you can stick it to a fridge.) </p><p>When Amazon opens up Alexa to developers, it not only gets information that improves its voice system, but it also gets valuable data about how consumers behave - what they want, what they do at home, and more, which it can use to better predict what you want to buy. It also gets more people into the Amazon ecosystem.</p><p>Sonos should integrate Amazon, and I wouldn't be surprised if the company has plans to <a href="http://www.techinsider.io/sonos-says-its-working-on-voice-control-2016-3">following the its announcement Wednesday night</a> that it's going through a restructuring and will focus on voice assistants like Alexa. (The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday morning.)</p><p>Using Alexa would be much easier for Sonos than developing its own voice recognition system, and instead, it could use its resources to do what it does best - make great sounding speakers.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Sonos</span></p><p class="caption">A Sonos PLAY: 5 speaker, which retails for $549.99.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Late Wednesday night, John MacFarlane, the co-founder and CEO of Sonos, <a href="http://blog.sonos.com/news/industry-in-transition-invest-in-future">wrote a lengthy blog post</a> that revealed for the first time Sonos was working on voice control. He even called out Amazon's voice-powered products by name, and that in the home, they're superior to voice control features from Apple, Google, and Windows:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">We're fans of what Amazon has done with Alexa and the Echo product line. Voice recognition isn't new; today it's nearly ubiquitous with Siri, OK Google, and Cortana. But the Echo found a sweet spot in the home and will impact how we navigate music, weather, and many, many other things as developers bring new ideas and more content to the Alexa platform. </p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">Its popularity with consumers will accelerate innovation across the entire industry. What is novel today will become standard tomorrow. Here again, Sonos is taking the long view in how best to bring voice-enabled music experiences into the home.
