In Maharashtra’s Thane district, police have registered a case of alleged fraud involving two construction company owners accused of deceiving a family of ₹1.2 crore. The incident came to light after a 28-year-old woman from Thane’s Rabodi area lodged a complaint against the two accused, who are brothers. The accused allegedly persuaded the woman, her mother, and her sister to invest the substantial sum in their construction company based in Mumbai’s Bandra area. Promises were made of a significant payout within five years or, alternatively, the option of acquiring two or three apartments in the city’s prime real estate zone. According to the complaint, the woman’s family entered the deal on December 31, 2022, convinced by assurances of either a return of ₹3 crore over five years or property options in Bandra. To meet the required investment amount, the family borrowed funds from various sources, entrusting their money with the accused based on the lucrative promises. The police official handling the case noted that the family, enticed by the seemingly profitable terms, had not foreseen the outcome that would follow. In May 2023, however, when the family attempted to reclaim their funds and the anticipated profit, the accused allegedly declined the request. The complainant stated that the brothers not only refused to pay but also reportedly threatened the family, citing powerful connections that would shield them from legal repercussions. This behaviour alarmed the family, leading them to seek legal recourse. The Rabodi police have filed a case against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 420 for cheating, Section 406 for criminal breach of trust, and Section 506 for criminal intimidation. Additionally, charges were filed under Section 34, indicating common intention, along with relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors Act. The case highlights the dangers that investors may face when lured by high-return promises in unregulated sectors. Fraudulent schemes in real estate and construction have been known to target individuals and families looking for profitable investments, often leaving them with financial losses and emotional distress. Authorities are continuing investigations, with the Rabodi police closely monitoring the case to gather further evidence. This incident is expected to bring more attention to regulatory practices within the real estate industry and underscore the need for stricter oversight to protect potential investors from falling prey to deceitful operators. The Indian cement industry is on track to reach 5.09 billion tonnes by 2028-29, driven by robust government investment in infrastructure. According to an IANS report originally attributed to Infomerics Ratings, this marks a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.9 per cent between 2024 and 2029. In 2022-23, the industry’s market size stood at 3.82 billion tonnes, with a total installed capacity of 622 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in FY24 and production at 427 million tonnes. Notably, India contributes over 8 per cent to the world’s total installed cement capacity, highlighting its importance in the global market. Despite this, India’s per capita cement consumption is 260 kg—significantly below the global average of 540 kg—indicating substantial room for growth. Globally, the cement market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 4.3 per cent from 2024 to 2032. The sector’s expansion is fuelled by ambitious government initiatives, including an allocation of ₹11.11 lakh crore for infrastructure in FY25 and housing schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The construction sector consumes 55 per cent of cement production, while public infrastructure projects account for the remainder. The industry also plays a critical role in employment, providing direct jobs to over one million people and creating downstream opportunities for about 20,000 individuals per million tonnes of cement produced. Private players dominate the sector, controlling 98 per cent of production capacity, while public sector units hold a mere 2 per cent. Domestic production meets almost all demand, with imports accounting for just 0.2 per cent of total production in FY23. However, exports have declined recently due to reduced global demand and rising competition. India currently has 341 cement manufacturing facilities, including 159 integrated large cement plants, 120 grinding units, and 62 mini cement plants. Cement production has seen steady growth, with a 7.1 per cent increase in September 2024 and a cumulative growth of 1.6 per cent between April and September of FY25, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This growth aligns with India’s overall industrial performance, which saw a 2 per cent rise in core industries in September, led by cement, steel, coal, and fertilisers. Singapore Airlines will make an additional investment of Rs 3,194.5 crore in Tata Group-owned Air India post-merger of Vistara in November. The merger, announced on November 29, 2022, and set to be completed on November 11, 2024, will result in Singapore Airlines having a 25.1% stake in the enlarged Air India. Full-service carrier Vistara, which started flying on January 9, 2015, is a joint venture between Tatas and Singapore Airlines, where the latter holds a 49% shareholding. Vistara's last flight will take off tomorrow i.e. November 11, 2024. Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group on Friday said its consideration for the merger comprises the 49% interest in Vistara and Rs 20,585 million (Rs 2,058.5 crore) in cash in exchange for a 25.1% equity interest in the enlarged Air India. Post-merger, SIA expects to recognize a non-cash accounting gain of around 1.1 billion Singapore dollars and also start equity accounting for its share of Air India's financial results. According to a release on Friday, the merger includes an agreement for SIA to contribute its share of any funding previously provided by Tata prior to the completion of the merger, together with relevant funding costs up to Rs 5,020 crore that would allow it to maintain a 25.1% stake in Air India. "SIA's additional capital injection is expected to be Rs 31,945 million (equivalent to SGD 498 million), based on Tata's funding to Air India to date. This will occur after the completion of the merger and within November 2024 through subscription to new Air India shares. "Future capital injections will be considered based on Air India's requirements and available funding options," according to the release issued while announcing the airline's financial performance for the six months ended September 2024. The merger of Vistara with Air India will mark a major consolidation in the fast-growing Indian aviation space. SIA said the merged entity will have a significant presence across all key Indian air travel segments, including domestic, international, full-service, and low-cost operations. "This will strengthen SIA's multi-hub strategy, allowing it to continue participating directly in India's large and fast-growing aviation market," it added. Recently, Air India and SIA agreed to significantly expand their codeshare agreement, adding 11 Indian cities and another 40 international destinations to their network.

Emirati state Abu Dhabi, for instance, is home to G42, a domestic company with an advanced <a target="_blank" href="https://www.g42.ai/resources/news/meet-jais-worlds-most-advanced-arabic-llm-open-sourced-g42s-inception">Arabic large language model</a>. It has also attracted $1.5 billion of investment from Microsoft. Bloomberg's report said Saudi Arabia planned to build its own version of G42.Another reason is weakening oil demand, a resource that has made the kingdom the central economic force of the Middle East for the better part of a century.An <a target="_blank" href="https://www.imf.org/en/Publications/CR/Issues/2024/09/03/Saudi-Arabia-2024-Article-IV-Consultation-Press-Release-Staff-Report-and-Informational-Annex-554530">IMF report in September</a> highlighted the ongoing decline in the country's oil revenue as the calendar speeds through to 2030; a decade-high of 857 billion riyals in 2022 ($228 billion) is projected to fall to 778 billion riyals ($207.1 billion) by 2029. Signs of weakening demand showed themselves this week, too, as state-owned oil giant <a target="_blank" href="https://www.aramco.com/-/media/publications/corporate-reports/reports-and-presentations/2024/q3/saudi-aramco-q3-2024-interim-report-english.pdf">Saudi Aramco reported a 15.3% year-on-year decrease</a> in third-quarter net income from $32.6 billion to $27.6 billion.Diversification away from oil has been a front-and-center issue for the kingdom's leaders for some time. It is a central focus of the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/saudi-arabia-vision-2030-projects-trillion-value-neom-2024-9">grand Vision 2030 project MBS launched in 2016</a>, which includes mega-infrastructure projects like Neom. It is also a top priority for decision-makers at the Public Investment Fund, Saudi Arabia's giant sovereign wealth fund.The fund — chaired by MBS — has served as a crucial diversification tool for Saudi Arabia, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/saudi-arabia-public-investment-fund-global-investment-spree-2024-8">leading an investment charge into top tech names</a> like Uber and SoftBank's first Vision Fund, a venture capital vehicle that bet on over 90 companies with $45 billion from the Saudis. The kingdom doesn't seem to want to keep up the pace of overseas spending it has previously had, however.Last month, PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan told attendees of the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh that the fund was preparing to allocate just 18 to 20% of its capital to overseas opportunities, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.ft.com/content/5004fbc6-23e2-4b9f-9885-14e1ea724ce2">the Financial Times reported</a>. That's a notable drop from the 30% allocated at the start of the decade.Overseas investment in AI looks set to continue, though. In March, The New York Times reported that the PIF was in early talks with Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz for a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/19/business/saudi-arabia-investment-artificial-intelligence.html">$40 billion AI fund.</a> Should that materialize, it would be a significant force in the global AI investment space. <div type="image" title="Yasir al-Rumayyan" height="852" width="1093" msid="115061832" hostid="261" sizebytes="47602"></div>It remains to be seen how Project Transcendence might play out, but it could lead to Saudi Arabia announcing new developments, companies, and projects alongside key names from beyond its borders to bolster its AI activity at home.There are already examples of the country turning to overseas tech companies. California-based AI company Groq, for instance, <a target="_blank" href="https://groq.com/unleashing-the-power-of-fast-ai-inference-groq-and-aramco-digital-partner-to-establish-world-leading-data-center/">unveiled a partnership</a> with an arm of Saudi Aramco in September that will oversee the development of an AI data center in the country. In October, Google Cloud and the PIF announced a partnership to develop an AI hub in the kingdom that, if approved, would see the two conduct joint research on Arabic language models and train "millions" of students and professionals.Saudi Arabia will want others to work with it, too, as it gets serious about becoming the Middle East's main stage for AI.

New Delhi, <keyword id="21565143" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-household-savings" source="keywords">Net household savings</keyword> declined sharply by Rs 9 lakh crore to Rs 14.16 lakh crore in three years to 2022-23, according to the latest National Account Statistics 2024 of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The net <keyword id="20751315" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Household-savings" source="keywords">household savings</keyword> peaked at Rs 23.29 lakh crore in 2020-21. These have been on the decline since then, the data showed. The net household savings declined to Rs 17.12 lakh crore in 2021-22 and dipped further to a five-year low of Rs 14.16 lakh crore in 2022-23. The previous low of net household savings was Rs 13.05 lakh crore in 2017-18 which increased to Rs 14.92 lakh crore in 2018-19 and Rs 15.49 lakh crore in 2019-20. The data showed that the <keyword id="19895437" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="investment" source="keywords">investment</keyword> in <keyword id="19929240" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mutual-funds" source="keywords">mutual funds</keyword> almost trebled to Rs 1.79 lakh crore in 2022-23 in three years from Rs 64,084 crore in 2020-21. It was Rs 1.6 lakh crore in 2021-22. The household investment in <keyword id="19907577" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shares" source="keywords">shares</keyword> and debentures almost doubled to Rs 2.06 lakh crore in 2022-23 from Rs 1.07 lakh crore in three years from 2020-21. It was Rs 2.14 lakh crore in 2021-22. Bank advances (loans) to households have also doubled in three years to Rs 11.88 lakh crore in 2022-23 from Rs 6.05 lakh crore in 2020-21. It was Rs 7.69 lakh crore in 2021-22. Loans to households by financial corporations and non-banking financial corporations increased also fourfold to Rs 3.33 lakh crore in 2022-23 from Rs 93,723 crore in 2020-21. It was 1.92 lakh crore in 2021-22. Household savings dip over Rs 9 lakh cr in 3 years to Rs 14.16 lakh cr in 2022-23

Addressing the ongoing India-US Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS-X) Summit in California on Monday, Campbell said successive administrations in Washington and New Delhi have invested time and political capital to bring the partnership to greater heights. "But in the last year, I like to say, our partnership has reached 'escape velocity'," he said. "The United States has invested significantly in expanding our strategic partnership with India, and we are pursuing a robust agenda to deepen cooperation for the rest of the year - not only diplomatically, but also through iCET ( initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology)," Campbell said. The third edition of the two-day INDUS-X summit began on Monday. It is organised by the <keyword id="20263494" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="us-india-strategic-and-partnership-forum" source="keywords">US India Strategic and Partnership Forum</keyword> (<keyword id="20252677" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="usispf" source="keywords">USISPF</keyword>) at Stanford University in California. The company, known for its Hillshire and Sara Lee brands, is worth $23 billion, and the Tysons are worth $3.1 billion, per Forbes. <h2>Two arrests in recent years</h2>During the first incident in 2022, Tyson was found intoxicated and asleep in a stranger's bed around 2am, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tyson-foods-cfo-embarrassed-sorry-after-arrest-wrong-home-bed-2022-11">Business Insider previously reported.</a> The home where Tyson was found belonged to a woman who said she thought Tyson came through her unlocked front door. He was released later that evening after being charged with public intoxication and criminal trespass. In June, Tyson was charged with driving while intoxicated and careless driving after he misjudged a turn and rode up onto a curb. The scion's run-ins with the law are not the company's only <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/child-labor-tyson-foods-perdue-farms-chicken-investigation-2023-9">controversy in recent months</a>. The Department of Labor subsequently investigated child labor at Tyson and Perdue Farms as part of a broader probe. No charges have been filed. But spend any time in certain corners of personal-finance Instagram and TikTok and you'll see women indulging in sleek caffeinated beverages. They swirl whipped cream on their tall iced coffees, brew black-sesame-matcha lattes, and show off hot chocolate and pastries as they promote strategies to save, invest, and make the most of their credit-card points. These women <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/multimillionaire-chooses-to-rent-not-buy-home-2024-6">talk openly about being rich</a> and wanting to help other women become rich too.One of those influencers is Tori Dunlap, the founder of a financial-education company called <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-start-business-with-no-money-her-first-100k-2023-1">Her First 100K</a>. She aspires to get as many young women as possible investing and to debunk the notion that in order to build wealth they need to deprive themselves of things they enjoy. In a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/CzzfzhsPAr-/">video</a> on Instagram, she considers Ramsey's advice, then erupts into a scream. "It's not the latte that's keeping you from saving money," she wrote in the caption. You too can invest your way out of the 9-to-5 life.If you ask these women, however, they'll say the trend has nothing to do with being lazy and everything to do with giving women the tools they need to take control of their financial destiny. "We're taking something very inaccessible and making it accessible," Dunlap said. If men can use their financial savvy to get rich, then so can women. And in a world where many <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-most-financially-savvy-generation-retirement-saving-investing-2023-11">Gen Zers and millennials expect to be working well past retirement age</a>, the advice is finding an eager audience.On the first day of her first full-time job out of college in 2018, Haley Sacks was asked to fill out her health insurance and 401(k) contributions. "I really wanted to make a good impression, so that night I went home and did what any self-respecting millennial would do," the New York native said. "I looked on YouTube for information, and I was really taken aback by what I found."Nearly all the financial-education content geared toward women focused on home-economics fare like saving and budgeting, she said. Meanwhile, the content she actually needed, which explained the fundamentals of investing, not only was "very dry" but seemed primarily made with a male audience in mind. "I couldn't really find anyone who was teaching money the way that I wanted to learn it," Sacks said. "So I became her." Now, six years later, Sacks, who goes by Mrs. Dow Jones on social media, has 1 million followers on Instagram, where she posts pop-culture-inflected videos on topics like <a target="_blank" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C3qgCggOZxh/?hl=en">how to predict layoffs at your job</a> and why the<a target="_blank" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C6cP5t4rxtu/?hl=en"> Cartier Love bracelets</a> Kylie Jenner is famous for wearing may not be a good investment.People like Sacks and Dunlap aren't the first female celebrity personal-finance experts. Sacks pointed to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/suze-orman-astrology-burnout-why-millennials-shouldnt-buy-coffee-2020-3">Suze Orman</a> — the pioneering personal-finance guru, author, and TV host — as someone who "walked so all of us could run." But until recently, women looking to wrap their heads around the intricacies of high-interest savings accounts and low-cost index funds had scant few options that spoke directly to them. Personal-finance education in US high schools used to be rare — though it's gotten better in the last few years with half of US states now mandating it. And women-specific financial-education literature tended to focus less on investing in real estate or negotiating a higher salary than on learning how to curb one's spending on supposedly "frivolous" items like coffee, manicures, and haircuts. The message, Dunlap said, boiled down to: "Men get to be millionaires by making more money and being the fullest version of themselves. The way to become a millionaire for women is to basically hate your life." On one level, these influencers are offering well-trodden financial advice packaged for a new audience: Dunlap's book has sections on <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/banking/what-is-an-emergency-fund">building an emergency fund</a>, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/paid-off-credit-card-debt-solid-plan-2024-6">getting out of debt</a>, and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/millennial-retired-early-financial-independence-fire-strategies-six-figure-income-2024-5">investing for retirement</a>. She said women comprise 95% of her audience. "We joke that it's largely girls, gays, and theys," she said. Sacks, who calls herself a "zillennial finance expert," said that her content is aimed at people of all genders but that women tend to gravitate to it because of the person who's talking. "We all have the same message," Sacks said. "It's sort of like finding the right trainer who motivates you."These influencers do break from tradition in a few key ways. Citing high interest rates, rising home prices, and a booming stock market, Sacks and Dunlap have made the case for <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/renting-vs-buying-homeownership-wont-make-genz-rich-increase-wealth-2024-7">renting instead of buying</a>. In "Financial Feminist," Dunlap recommends readers focus on building a three- to six-month emergency fund before paying off debt so they're prepared for a layoff or dangerous home situation. Sacks recommends young people job-hop to keep up with inflation and cost-of-living increases if necessary. "You should be making 15% more every single year," she said. "And if you're not making that at your current job, then you should change jobs." (<a target="_blank" href="https://www.epi.org/nominal-wage-tracker/">Research from the Economic Policy Institute</a> indicates that since 2007 US employees have received an average wage increase of 3.9% a year.)Rita Soledad Fernández Paulino, a California-based money coach and creator focused on women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ people, said their goal is to help people become "work-optional" by leveraging their investments. "I like the idea of everyone working because they want to and not because they have to," they said.Leah Sheppard, a professor of management and associate dean for equity and inclusion at Washington State University's Carson College of Business, sees this wave of financial education as a reflection of an awareness among Gen Zers and millennials that the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/loyalty-employee-employer-job-security-broken-work-companies-bosses-2024-1">boomer-era version of the American dream</a> — where you work your way up the ladder for 40 years at a single employer and put away enough to retire — no longer applies to them. "Young people are thinking, 'When will I get to a place where I don't really have to worry about money?'" she said. "If they're thinking, 'Traditional employment is not working well, I don't want to start a business' — well, what's the other way? And it's probably getting really smart about how you save money, taking the money that you are saving and investing it and building wealth." Sacks sees it as a matter of young people wanting to take the future into their own hands. "You have to be more self-reliant now than our parents ever had to be," she said.Kyla Scanlon, the author of the 2024 book "In This Economy?", sees the interest in financial-education content on social media as symptomatic of a curiosity about alternative revenue streams, spurred by the rise of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/robinhood-collapse-what-happened-retail-investing-meme-stocks-future-finance-2022-2">fintech apps like Robinhood</a> and populist financial movements like crypto and GameStop. "People are looking at the market. They're looking at different income sources, Airbnb, the gigification of everything — and then just how do you have passive income outside of traditional income?" Scanlon said.For <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gambling-young-men-sports-betting-crypto-meme-stock-market-addiction-2024-4">young men, this often takes the shape of riskier investments</a> like sports gambling, crypto, and meme stocks. Young women, on the other hand, are turning to more tried-and-true tactics.In a survey of 2,000 adults conducted in July 2023, Fidelity Investments found that Gen Z women were more likely to say they participated in the stock market than any other age group, with 71% of women ages 18 to 26 saying they had invested, compared with 63% of millennial women and 57% of boomer women. These figures dovetail with an uptick in the percentage of people under 35 who held stocks and retirement accounts in 2022 compared with 2019, according to the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances, though the Fed doesn't break these figures down by gender.Whether the goal is to retire early or to job-hop your way to a six-figure salary, this wave of financial advice departs from the "lean-in," <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/rise-and-fall-girl-boss-analysis-2020-7">"girlboss" flavor of feminism</a> that dominated conversations about women and work in the 2010s. "We're just more disillusioned with corporate," Dunlap said. "We're more disillusioned with the way we make money."Instead, it's advice for a generation of women who see their experiences reflected in <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lazy-girl-job-is-just-a-healthy-job-2023-12">memes like the "lazy-girl job."</a> "The lazy-girl thing is just like, 'Oh, give me a little bit of rest in addition to my work,'" Dunlap said. "I think that's completely reasonable." But talking about this stuff in public as a woman or queer person can be fraught. Dunlap said she gets "called every insulting thing you can call a woman on a daily basis" and has been on the receiving end of death threats. She said people aren't used to seeing women talking in public about money, and especially not about being rich. "We have different expectations for how men and women should behave, especially around money," she said. "Women shouldn't want it. You should be grateful for the things you have."Other women BI spoke with said they faced harassment. "There's a certain group of men who just don't like women," Scanlon said. But for the most part, the influencers stressed that their content was resonating with the people it was supposed to resonate with. "The comments section on any video is a mess, but it's also the most supportive, lovely thing," Dunlap said. "So many women, championing me, championing each other, championing themselves."The experts BI spoke with all had their own ways of describing the movement. Fernández Paulino said they see themself as belonging to a community of people who approach money and finance in a way that acknowledges the systemic issues that interfere with people's wealth and wellness — such as the economic effects of structural racism and transphobia, or the fact that American women weren't allowed to own a credit card or take out a mortgage in their own name until the 1970s. "For me, it's like, I can have wealth too. You can have wealth too. It's not a you problem; it's a we problem," they said.Dunlap invented her own term to describe it: financial feminism. "It's this idea of getting yourself financially to a point where you are stable, safe, and you have enough wealth to have options, and then using that wealth as a tool to make an impact," she said.
