<ul class="summary-list"><li>Police pulled a couple off of a New York <keyword id="6375666" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ferry">ferry</keyword> in handcuffs after they refused multiple orders to put on masks, <a href="https://gothamist.com/news/bay-ridge-couple-nyc-ferry-masks-covid-nypd">Gothamist</a> reports. </li><li>The husband and wife were each slapped with summonses for disorderly conduct.</li><li>They were intially allowed to board, but police were called after the couple became hostile toward crew members and other passengers, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider. </li></ul><p>A Brooklyn couple was hauled off of a New York ferry in handcuffs Saturday night after refusing multiple requests to put on face masks, <a href="https://gothamist.com/news/bay-ridge-couple-nyc-ferry-masks-covid-nypd">Gothamist reports</a>.</p><p>The husband and wife each received a summons for disorderly conduct and for violating an emergency measure established by the mayor, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider.</p><p>According to Gothamist, the boat's captain requested that the couple either put on face masks or leave the ferry, but the husband and wife claimed they had a medical condition that allowed them to ride without masks. Face coverings are currently required on all NYC Ferry vessels, except for in cases when a medical condition prevents passengers from wearing them, a spokesperson for NYC Ferry told Business Insider.</p><p>Gothamist reporter Jake Offenhartz witnessed the incident and chronicled the event in multiple videos posted to Twitter.</p><p>The couple was initially allowed to board, but later became verbally abusive toward passengers and crew members, which led the crew to call the police, an NYC Ferry spokesperson told Business Insider.</p><p>The husband and wife stood on the ferry's top deck defying orders for approximately 45 minutes before police arrived. One police officer asked for evidence of the couples' medical condition, which they refused to provide, Gothamist reports.</p><p>"Because we can't wear a mask, we're being discriminated against," said the man, who identified himself to Gothamist as David, according to the outlet.</p><p>"If we were f---ing Black, I can guarantee you that guy would never come out and tell us put a mask on," the woman said, per Gothamist.</p><p>According to the report, NYPD officers offered the couple the opportunity to disembark voluntarily before walking them off in handcuffs.</p><p>The woman told Gothamist they were in the process of suing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority — which operates New York's transit system — after a similar incident on a bus, and that they may sue the ferry service as well.</p><p>"NYC Ferry is continuing to investigate the incident in question," an NYC Ferry spokesperson told Business Insider. "The safety of our riders and crew is our number one priority. We sincerely thank the NYPD for their rapid response to last night's incident and we greatly appreciate the professionalism of our crew along with the patience of our riders."</p>

In October, the early-stage cancer biotech Allogene became the then-biggest biotech IPO ever. It raised $324 million in an IPO that valued the company at more than <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-10-11/allogene-makes-trading-debut-as-largest-biotech-to-ipo-since-09">$2 billion. </a></span></p><p>Excluding Moderna, there have been 56 biotech IPOs that have raised a total $5.5 billion in 2018, according to Renaissance Capital. It's the highest total since 2014, when there were 71 biotech IPOs that raised <a href="https://www.renaissancecapital.com/review/2015USReview.pdf">a combined $5.2 billion. </a></p><p>Morgan Stanley<span>, </span>Goldman Sachs and <span> J.P. Moderna is sliding in its Wall Street debut after the biggest IPO in biotech history

The events group stomached higher product-development and personnel costs as it struggled to integrate its Ticketfly acquisition.</p><p>Nearly 800,000 creators used Eventbrite's platform to plan, promote, and produce 3.9 million events and sell 265 million tickets in 2018, <a href="https://investor.eventbrite.com/overview/default.aspx">according to its website</a>. However, the company's market value has tumbled from $2.8 billion when it <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/initial-public-offering-eventbrite-prices-shares-at-23-2018-9-1027551209">listed its shares in September</a> to less than $900 million.</p><p>Eventbrite's net revenue rose 9% to about $81 million as ticket sales on its platform - from which it takes a cut - jumped 15% to 27 million, <a href="https://d18rn0p25nwr6d.cloudfront.net/CIK-0001475115/e6eb3218-06e2-42bf-86a8-d7b0b573ec82.pdf">according to its first-quarter earnings report</a>. However, operating expenses climbed 23% to about $61 million as product-development costs surged 62% and general and administrative expenses jumped 26%. As a result, Eventbrite's operating loss mushroomed from $3.1 million to $10.1 million.</p><p>Stock awards were a key driver of the higher costs. Stock-based compensation surged more than 180% to $8.1 million in the period, reflecting new hires and increased headcount following acquisitions. The payouts contributed to a $5.5 million free-cash outflow in the year to March - a sharp drop from over $29 million in free cash flow in the preceding 12 months.</p><p>Eventbrite's Ticketfly acquisition has been problematic. It stomached a $6.3 million charge after hackers accessed the personal details of about 27 million Ticketfly accountholders in May 2018. It has also struggled to absorb Ticketfly's business and satisfy its users.</p><p>"We took on a challenge when we acquired Ticketfly, as it marked a significant expansion in our commitment to their main customers, music venues," said CEO Julia Hartz and CFO Randy Befumo <a href="https://investor.eventbrite.com/overview/default.aspx">in a letter to shareholders</a>.</p><p>"We may see meaningful migration loss as we move to shut down the Ticketfly platform in the second half of the year," they added. Eventbrite is working to minimize that loss by rolling out new functions to meet the needs of music venues, <a href="https://investor.eventbrite.com/overview/default.aspx">Hartz said on the company's first-quarter earnings call</a>.</p><p>However, Eventbrite will "continue to face hurdles that will inhibit revenue growth, including the focus on migration efforts and the churn from venues that decide not to migrate to our platform," its executives wrote in their shareholder letter.</p><p>Nonetheless, they plan to ramp up investment in the second quarter. Eventbrite's shares are plunging after its losses tripled last quarter

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Apple has just unveiled its next major software update for iPhones and iPads called iOS 9. Apple focused on elevating the foundation of the platform with iOS 9, which means its made some security and performance updates.</p><p>Apple is also making some big improvements to Siri. Apple says that word detection accuracy has improved, and now Siri only misses words 5% of the time. </p><p>But the biggest change seems to be that Siri is becoming more intelligent and contextual like Google Now. Thanks to a new feature called Proactive, Siri offers up contacts you might want to call or text based on your upcoming meetings, and suggests apps you might want to download based on the ones you already have. </p><p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Apple is also opening up the API for its Spotlight Search to developers  - which means content within apps will soon be as searchable as the files stored on your phone. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Apple's Craig F</span>ederighi showed how search and Siri tightly with all of Apple's apps in a demo on stage. For example, since Federighi had a potluck on his calendar, as soon as he typed in "potato" in search, potato recipes began to show up in the search results. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Siri can also pull up photos from your phone based on when and where you took them. So, for example, when Federighi says, "Show me photos from San Francisco last year," any photos taken in the city about one year ago will show up. </p><p>Security is a big part of iOS 9, too. Apple emphasized that it doesn't mine your data for contacts and other information and store it in the cloud. Everything stays on your device.</p><p>"You are in control," <span>Federighi said. </span></p><p><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><br /></span></p><p>There are some updates to Apple Pay coming in iOS 9, too - you'll be able to add store cards and royalty cards to the app. The Passbook app is being rebranded as Wallet, and you'll be able to store credit, debit, and store loyalty cards within the app. </p><p>Apple is making some improvements to its other native apps too. Notes, for example, comes with a new toolbar that lets you format headings, numbered lists, and other types of formatting more easily.</p><p>You can also access the camera and camera roll directly from Notes in iOS 9. Drawing tools are also coming to Notes, and you choose to save web pages from Safari directly to a note with a single tap. </p><p>Apple is making significant additions to Maps, too, which saw a troubled launch when it was intially unveiled in 2012.
