The PSLV-C57.1 rocket carrying the Aditya-L1 orbiter lifted off successfully from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, in September.

European Space Agency Director praises ISRO, calls India's accomplishments in space "astonishing"

While temporary losses in communications have occurred before, due to systems upgrades on the ground or missed contact with satellites, this outage marked the first time that NASA had to rely on backup control hardware at Johnson Space Center's Building 30, CNN reported. According to <keyword id="18162942" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="iss-programme" source="Orion">ISS Programme</keyword> Manager Joel Montalbano, the outage occurred on Tuesday morning and lasted about 90 minutes. But NASA was able to communicate with the astronauts aboard ISS via Russian systems within 20 minutes after the outage began, he was quoted as saying. The outage also caused no danger for the crew. "It wasn't an issue on board. It was purely a ground problem," he said. He explained that the outage happened due to a pre-planned upgrade to the power systems that triggered some "reconfiguration". "We knew this (the upgrade work) was going on," Montalbano said. "In preparation for that we have the backup command and control system that we would use if we have to close the centre for a weather emergency." In about an hour and a half NASA could transition to using the backup system -- designed for use during hurricane season or in the event of a weather outage, Montalbano said. He noted that the outage, which impacted only the first floor of the mission control building, affected the key communications providing hardware, including voice contact and telemetry, or data about the space station's pressure levels, power and position. It did not affect flight controllers, or the rotating crew of NASA employees who constantly monitor the ISS from consoles in the main mission control room. Montalbano said that NASA would work to "better understand what happened and then take some lessons learned", the report said.

The flight will mark Williams' third space mission. According to NASA, the flight to the orbiting International Space Station (<keyword id="20307956" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ISS" source="keywords">ISS</keyword>) is scheduled to lift off from Florida's Kennedy Space Centre around 10 pm Indian Standard Time today. 'Suni' Williams and fellow NASA <keyword id="20248602" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="astronaut" source="keywords">astronaut</keyword> Barry 'Butch' Wilmore will be the first humans to go aboard Starliner spacecraft as part of the US space agency's Commercial Crew Program. The Starliner spacecraft will be catapulted into space on an Atlas 5 rocket of the rocket company United Launch Alliance (ULA). It will dock with the ISS on Sunday and the astronauts will be at the ISS conducting a range of tests for about a week. Starliner will then undock from the ISS re-enter Earth's atmosphers and make a parachute and airbag-assisted landing in the southwestern United States on June 10, NASA said. If this mission is successful, NASA will begin the final process of certifying Starliner and its systems for crewed rotation missions to the International Space Station. The Starliner capsule will carry four astronauts, or a mix of crew and cargo, for NASA missions to low Earth orbit. NASA, Boeing, and ULA (United Launch Alliance) are ready for the June 1, launch of the agency's Boeing Crew Flight Test according to an announcement during a prelaunch media briefing from NASA's Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. "I'm very proud of the teams who have worked really hard the last two and a half weeks to prepare for launch," said Steve Stich, manager, NASA's Commercial Crew Program. "We're really ready to go fly" he said. The integrated ULA Atlas 5 rocket and Starliner spacecraft stack rolled out to the pad at Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on May 30 in preparation for liftoff. Both Williams and Wilmore had remained in preflight quarantine inside the Neil A. Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building following their return to the Florida spaceport on May 28. Mission managers of the <keyword id="21541868" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Boeing-Starliner" source="keywords">Boeing Starliner</keyword>'s Crewed Test Flight (CFT) called off the mission on May 7, just two hours before the scheduled launch due to a valve glitch in the Atlas 5 rocket's upper stage. Boeing said in its statement that the valve was successfully replaced on May 11 and tested to confirm it was working properly. Later on May 14, NASA announced that the CFT mission scheduled for May 17 has been pushed to no later than May 21 due to what it described as a "small helium leak" in the spacecraft's service module. On May 17 the space agency said that the launch was further pushed back to May 25. The flight marking Boeing's first Starliner spacecraft mission with a human crew, is part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program, which is working with the US aerospace industry through a public-private partnership to launch astronauts on American rockets and spacecraft from US soil. NASA selected Boeing and SpaceX in September 2014 to transport crew to the International Space Station from the United States. These integrated spacecraft, rockets and associated systems will carry up to four astronauts on NASA missions, maintaining a space station crew of seven to maximize time dedicated to scientific research on the orbiting laboratory. After a failed attempt in December 2019, Boeing conducted a successful uncrewed Orbital Flight Test 2 (OFT-2) in 2022. Its Starliner is expected to be reusable for up to ten missions within a six-month turnaround time, according to the aerospace company. Elon Musk-owned SpaceX company's Crew Dragon has performed 12 crewed missions since its first launch on May 30, 2020. Williams and Wilmore were both former commanders of the International Space Station. Williams, from Needham, Massachusetts, earned a physical science degree from the US Naval Academy, and a master's in engineering management from the Florida Institute of Technology. Her first spaceflight was Expedition 14/15 (from December 2006 to June 2007) launching on space shuttle Discovery's STS-116 mission to reach the International Station, according to NASA. While onboard, Williams established a world record for women at the time with four spacewalks. She concluded her tour of duty by returning to Earth with shuttle Atlantis' STS-117 flight to land at Edwards Air Force Base in California on June 22, 2007. Selected as an astronaut by NASA in June 1998, Williams has spent a total of 322 days in space on two missions and accumulated 50 hours and 40 minutes of cumulative EVA time on seven spacewalks. Williams worked with Roscosmos on its contribution to the space station and with the first Expedition crew. Meanwhile, 61-year-old, Wilmore has logged 178 days in space and has 25 hours and 36 minutes of time on four spacewalks. Boeing has planned six manned missions for the platform over the next six years, the projected end of the ISS' operating lifespan. NASA plans to use both SpaceX's Dragon and Boeing's Starliner to send up astronauts at least every six months from US soil. Both Boeing and SpaceX were given the responsibility in 2014 by NASA to send commercial crew missions to the ISS. Boeing received over USD 4 billion in US federal funds to develop the Starliner, while SpaceX received about USD 2.6 billion. Space agencies of India and France on Thursday signed an agreement for cooperation for the country's first human space mission Gaganyaan, the French space agency <keyword id="680335" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="CNES">CNES</keyword> said. The agreement was announced during French Foreign Affairs minister Jean-Yves Le Drian visit to the <keyword id="116095" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword>'s (<keyword id="6358064" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro">ISRO</keyword>) headquarters. ISRO has asked CNES to help prepare for Gaganyaan missions and to serve as its single European contact in this domain. "Under the terms of the agreement, CNES will train India's flight physicians and CAPCOM mission control teams in France at the CADMOS centre for the development of microgravity applications and space operations at CNES in Toulouse and at the European Astronaut Centre (EAC) in Cologne, Germany," the CNES said. The agreement provides for the CNES to support implementation of a scientific experiment plan on validation missions, exchange information on food packaging and the nutrition programme, and above all the use by Indian astronauts of French equipment, consumables and medical instruments. French equipment developed by CNES, tested and still operating aboard the <keyword id="6382020" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="international-space-station">International Space Station</keyword> (ISS) will thus be made available to Indian crews. Thomas Pesquet, who is set to make his second flight to the International Space Station on April 22 for the <keyword id="175327" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Alpha">Alpha</keyword> mission, had previously tested these devices on his first spaceflight. The CNES will also be supplying fireproof carry bags made in France to shield equipment from shocks and radiation, it said. "This cooperation could be extended in the future to parabolic flights operated by Novespace to test instruments and for astronaut training, as well as technical support for construction of an astronaut training centre in Bangalore," the CNES added. The Gaganyaan orbital spacecraft project was kicked off in August 2018. It originally intended to send astronauts from Indian soil to mark the 75th anniversary of India's independence in 2022. However, the mission has been delayed due to the restrictions imposed in view of the coronavirus pandemic. Then, eons later, the methyl cation could help form the more UV-sensitive complex carbon molecules needed for life.That could explain how the building blocks of life appeared on our planet. Long ago, when Earth was just a protoplanetary disk, it too was bombarded with heavy UV radiation."This clearly shows that ultraviolet radiation can completely change the chemistry of a protoplanetary disk. It might actually play a critical role in the early chemical stages of the origins of life," said lead author of the study, Olivier Berné of the French National Centre for Scientific Research in Toulouse.

The centre that will be ready in 2021 in Kozhikode is in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project comes under the Gender Park initiative by the Department of Social Justice. “The project comes at a time when more and more women are foraying into entrepreneurship and exploring other self-employment options in Kerala. This forward-looking venture will fulfill the need for providing a platform to help women break the glass ceiling by overcoming social barriers in their way and forge ahead as successful entrepreneurs,” said Minister for Health and Social Justice Smt. K K Shailaja. Hoping to be a safe space for women, the centre will offer women entrepreneurs incubation, a fully-automated private and shared office spaces and even accommodation to stay over. It will also have creches and senior community centres. The centre, which in its pilot year will help flood affected women in sustainability by providing them with opportunities for livelihood and entrepreneurship, will also have retail outlets, health and wellness centres and even a dedicated cultural space for performing arts. In January this year, Kerala also announced one of the country’s biggest startup hubs covering an area of 1.82 lakh sq ft in Kalamassery, an industrial area in Kochi. Kerala to build India’s first global trade centre for women to boost entrepreneurship

In 2012, GB Pant hospital, the lone pediatric health facility in <keyword id="6354495" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="KASHMIR" source="Orion">Kashmir</keyword> recorded 358 neonatal deaths from January 1 to May 18. The high neonatal mortality rate triggered uproar in the Valley prompting then Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to announce that a 500-bed <keyword id="6354493" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CHILDREN" source="Orion">children</keyword> hospital will be set up in Srinagar in the shortest possible time. On May 31, 2012, Omar Abdullah led regime cleared the proposal for building the 200-bed maternity and 250-bed children hospital over an area of about 70 kanals at Bemina in Srinagar. The facility that was to come up within no time remained in limbo for nearly 10 years. The work on the hospital was initially started in 2013, but it went on at snail's pace. In 2015, when late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed came into power, he once again laid the foundation stone for a 500-bed Mother-Child Hospital. Neither the Omar Abdullah led regime nor the dispensation led by Mehbooba Mufti could complete the children hospital project. The first deadline was missed in 2014, the second in 2017, and the third in 2018. In July 2021, the J&amp;K Administrative Council headed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha took note of the project missing several deadlines. The Council approved the construction of an exclusive 500-bed <keyword id="2782925" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PEDIATRIC-HOSPITAL" source="Orion">pediatric hospital</keyword> at Bemina. After the Council gave its nod, the work on the facility, which was left incomplete by the former political regimes, commenced and the project is ready. It is all set to become functional from September 26 (Monday). Machinery and other equipment have been shifted to the hospital. From next week the Out Patient Department and admissions at GB Pant hospital at Sonawar in Srinagar will be closed and at the same time, admission of patients will start at children hospital Bemina. 70-year long wait ends It's after 70-long years that Kashmir is all set to get an exclusive 500-bed facility for children. For seven decades politicians, who ruled Jammu and Kashmir just made tall promises but failed to deliver. Kashmir having a population of more than one crore had just one 130-bed hospital from 1947 to 2022 for children. What an Irony! The politicians, who ruled J&amp;K till 2018, didn't focus on development and governance. They remained busy with raking up the issues which had got nothing to do with the welfare of a common man. After August 5, 2019 -- when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&amp;K's special status and divided it into two Union Territories -- the Himalayan region has witnessed massive development. The projects like building a children's hospital, which remained incomplete due to one or other reason, stand completed and have been thrown open for the public. Relentless efforts The children's hospital at Bemina had become a typical example of missed deadlines. The mega project had to wait for one decade for its commissioning. The hospital has become a reality due to the relentless efforts that were put in by the present dispensation in J&amp;K led by LG Manoj Sinha. After the Administrative Council in the Union Territory gave its nod for the hospital in July last year the officials and the executing agencies were told in clear terms that no delay would be acceptable and the results are evident. The hospital having all the modern facilities is ready. GB Pant hospital The GB Pant hospital at Sonawar had started functioning in 2007. Before 2007 the lone Children Hospital in Kashmir was located next to Lal Ded maternity hospital at Lal Mandi in Srinagar. The 130-bed GB Pant hospital used to cater to children from across the Valley. From OPD to emergency and from wards to laboratories, every section of the hospital remained congested all the time. Three to four patients used to occupy one bed in the health facility, leading to fears of the spread of infections and other communicable diseases. There was no dedicated parking space at the GB Pant hospital despite it being the lone facility for children that catered to patients from all the corners of Kashmir. The hospital was located on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and the road leading to it remained clogged with a heavy flow of traffic. Many patients requiring urgent treatment used to get stuck in traffic jams for hours. Politicians ignored the burning issue The GB Pant hospital used to hog the headlines for wrong reasons every now and then. Politicians, who ruled Jammu and Kashmir, were aware of the fact that Kashmir needs a big health facility for the children as the existing one was unable to cater to the rush. They knew that neonates and small kids being admitted in the hospital deserve better health care facilities. As the 500-bed new children's hospital is being thrown open in Kashmir, people are asking why the politicians couldn't do the same despite them enjoying power for 70-years. What stopped them from setting up the facilities that could have helped a common man? Is it that they were least bothered about the sufferings of people? Or it was simply their incompetence? Turning Point After the abrogation of Article 370, the people of Kashmir have understood that New Delhi always wanted to provide them with all the facilities but their own leaders, who claimed to represent Kashmiris and as on date are still projecting themselves as 'Messiahs (saviours)', were least interested in helping their own people. From 1990 -- when the Pakistan sponsored insurgency broke out in J&amp;K -- till 2018, Kashmir-based leaders used to claim that no development can take place in the Himalayan region till the so-called Kashmir "issue" is resolved. However, during the past three years the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proven that "where there is a will there's a way," what J&amp;K couldn't get in 70-years has got in 3-years. The 500-bed children hospital is yet another milestone aimed at making the lives of people easy and another step towards sending a message to the people of Kashmir that the country stands with them and the government is committed to provide them with all the facilities and build 'Naya Jammu and Kashmir'. When the cells reach the ISS, they will be electrically stimulated to produce contractions in the muscle tissue.The scientists at the University have travelled to the Kennedy Space Center to grow the muscle cells before launch, per the researchers' report. The cell samples are set to return to Earth in January for further research.The agency said in its report that it has provided £1.2 million ($1.5 million) in funding to the University of Liverpool for the study.
