To make the most of this, intercity <keyword id="41800" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bus" source="Orion">bus</keyword> services player <keyword id="8824130" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="intrcity" source="Orion">IntrCity</keyword> has come up with its first-ever campaign.</li><li>We spoke to <keyword id="13458400" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="swapnil-tripathi" source="Orion">Swapnil Tripathi</keyword>, Chief Business Officer, IntrCity SmartBus about the spike in travel in the last few months and the kind of growth they are seeing, their new campaign and their larger marketing strategies.</li></ul>As things get back to normal and people start to go back to their long list of holidays that had been paused due to the pandemic in the last 2 years, IntrCity, a player that offers intercity bus services has come up with its first-ever campaign, 'It’s not a bus, it is a SmartBus'. Through the campaign, the brand wants to reiterate IntrCity SmartBus as a customer-centric brand. It is also trying to acquire new customers in Delhi and Bangalore through its communication. It also has plans of spending aggressively on marketing this year, to reach out to customers to further communicate the core offerings of the brand. Serving close to 1.5 lakh passengers every month, the brand currently operates in 16 states, covering over 630 routes across J&amp;K (Kashmir) to Kanyakumari (Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu). IntrCity SmartBus covers over 200 destinations across 228 cities. We spoke to Swapnil Tripathi, Chief Business Officer, IntrCity SmartBus to understand the brand’s journey so far and why it was a good time to release its first campaign, the kind of growth bus travel is witnessing currently and how they are making the entire experience safer for its consumers. Excerpts: Q) You have launched your first-ever campaign. Why was this a good time? After the dampening years due to the deadly second wave of COVID-19 pandemic and the Omicron era with extended lockdowns, inter-city mobility has gained momentum once again. The summer vacations will begin shortly and inter-city travel will get very intense especially with no travel restrictions after 2 years. Seeing the high demand for intercity bus travel and factors like traveller’s confidence has returned to the pre-pandemic levels for both leisure and non-leisure travel, we felt it is a great time for introducing our campaign #It’s not a bus, it is a SmartBus to highlight the comfort provided by IntrCity SmartBus for bus travellers. Q) Considering this is your first campaign, how have you been engaging with your consumers so far? Our core philosophy is experience-led where the focus is to ensure that every traveller ends up making us their default choice after their first trip with us. Hence the strategy is to acquire new customers from our relevant TG i.e. millennial professionals, college students, SMEs &amp; traders and travelling sales professionals. Needless to say that we have also created products like SmartBus Savings Card, Refer n Earn and loyalty program to ensure that every repeat travel is financially rewarding too. We engage with travellers at our lounges and inside the bus through our staff, where the captain ensures that they not only have great experience but understand how they can travel again with us. We have brand tie-ups which ensures that our travellers get overwhelmed with goodies as well as snacks which they can buy during the journey. IntrCity app helps one manage the entire journey experience smoothly accessing various tools like Track Your Bus, Find Boarding point, Talk to Captain, and Pre-order meal at pit-stop. Q) What kind of increase in demand has the company witnessed from the start of this year? Do you anticipate this number to only go up this year? We have registered a month-on-month growth at a consistent 40% plus growth over the last six months, as of February 2021 with milder slowdown during parts of January and February returning back and growing again from March onwards. In the last 2-3 years, the technology-backed aggregators have led to the creation of branded fleets on prominent 50+ routes across India. The introduction of mobility technology in inter-city buses along with the emergence of organised and branded players has transformed this entire ecosystem. We believe that our growth numbers will remain at this level and further improve paving the way to have 2000 buses by 2025. Q) Going ahead, what are a few key focus areas for this year? The key focus right now is going deeper into the heartland of India with expanding our services further into Tier I &amp; II cities in India. We are executing a mix of deeper penetration in routes that we are already active in along with adding new routes from existing hub cities. We’re aiming to have 2000 buses by 2025. Q) What are your broader marketing plans for the rest of the year? We focus a lot on repeat travel and hence have a lot of engagement activities and communication targeted at ensuring that our loyal travellers remain in touch between their two trips with us. Our in-bus goodies bag, surprise gifts and the captains ensure that customers should interact with the brand IntrCity and finish their trip with a very strong recall about us. The IntrCity app keeps them informed about new feature launches, new routes added, special offers and ensures that they travel again with IntrCity SmartBus. Q) Considering people are still cautious about travelling, how are you ensuring the safety of customers? Customer’s safety is our utmost priority. Using data analytics to offer detailed information like live bus status, estimated time of arrival at destination &amp; more, the SmartBus has been built as a centralised system, backed by AI-powered predictive algorithms, that connect long distance buses. This provides a standardised travel experience for our bus fleet. Our SmartBuses are designed to create, maintain &amp; grow our three core promises: safety, reliability and punctuality. Establishing safety parameters for our passengers is a core focus at IntrCity SmartBus. In line with this priority, we have built a central command centre to monitor and manage each bus journey, especially the long distance ones. Our command centre is connected with the driver’s interface in the bus, the crew app, the bus booking app for consumers, and all boarding lounges and boarding points. Our SmartBuses are also equipped with cameras and sensors that help keep track of the passenger count at all times. Every enroute bus is assigned with a Bus Captain who offers you in-person assistance throughout the journey. In case of an emergency, the captains directly contact the command centre for quick resolution ensuring that you enjoy an uninterrupted safe and comfortable travel experience. As a result of these safety measures, the percentage of female travellers who did online bus ticket booking with IntrCity SmartBus rose from 9% in 2019 to 25% in 2021. Every bus is thoroughly cleaned and sanitised before starting its journey, and the ‘cleaning’ status is uploaded on the bus ticket booking app for you to check. Our in-bus staff members wear protective gear throughout the journey and are thermally scanned before resuming their duties. Travellers are similarly checked and are provided with a hygiene kit with a sanitizer and disinfectant wet wipes. We have established IntrCity SmartBus Lounges, an industry-first effort, to provide consumers with a safe and convenient boarding experience. Q) How is IntrCity engaging with consumers from smaller cities? Are you also looking at regional campaigns? Our approach towards the customers from tier-II and III is multi-media campaign, vernacular content and communicating on how our brand is helping them for their very functional needs. We cater to functional needs of the travel and our primary routes are such where people travel for job, going to college campuses, visiting families &amp; relatives with very few leisure routes too. Hence we aim to convey how our buses remain punctual, are safe, are cleaned &amp; sanitized for contamination free travel. We follow a vernacular approach and have seen better engagement with local language content than English. Our selection of media and demography of users is purely based on locations we exist in and cater to.

Bangkok's transport infrastructure is extensive, and the traffic is notoriously bad, so having a good understanding of the different options and how they work is key to making the most of your time so you don't spend most of it stuck in congestion.Here is everything you need to know about navigating Bangkok quickly and affordably.<h3>Getting to Bangkok</h3>You'll likely be flying into Thailand through Bangkok's international Suvarnabhumi Airport. There are some direct flights from Europe though, through cities such as London, Paris, and Frankfurt.Once you get to Suvarnabhumi, the airport has a lot to make you feel at ease like free Wi-Fi, a pretty good Thai food court, lots of international dining options, and even a massage spot.If you are just spending a few hours or a day in Bangkok, you might want to consider checking out the luggage storage stand on the basement level. You can store each bag here for 100 baht per day.To get from the airport into the city, there are a couple of options. The <a href="https://www.srtet.co.th/index.php/en" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Airport Rail Link</a> on the basement level is the only form of efficient public transport from the airport into the city. It costs 45 baht and takes about one hour to the downtown Ratchaprarop or Makkasan stations connecting to the main BTS Skytrain and MRT underground networks respectively.Otherwise, you need to take a taxi from the ground-floor taxi stand. It's essentially the only other transport option from Suvarnabhumi to greater Bangkok, since rideshares are not allowed to do airport pickups.Staff at the taxi stand speak English and print a slip with your desired destination address on it for the driver. The price runs on a meter costing around 350 baht ($10) to the city center, plus about 150 baht ($4) in surcharges for the taxi stand and expressways. If you are flying into Thailand from the US or elsewhere, chances are you will be coming in through Suvarnabhumi, but if you are flying in from Southeast Asia or Thailand, you'll probably land at Don Mueang.There aren't very good public transport options to and from this airport, so you'll need a taxi. This can take up to an hour into the city, depending on traffic.<h3>Getting around Bangkok</h3>Bangkok experiences intense gridlock, and public transport can be helpful in this regard. During certain times, like heavy rains and rush hour, long main roads like Sukhumvit and Silom can be congested for hours, in my experience.A fair amount of walking may be necessary from inter-city train stops depending on where you need to go. That's tough when it's hot out, so taxis and motorsai (motorbike taxis) will come in handy, as will familiarizing yourself with water transport for exploring older parts of town.Here are your best transport options for navigating the capital.<div type="image" title="Bangkok's BTS Skytrain&#xa0; Thailand Pietro Lo Casto for Insider" height="1665" width="2220" msid="92064265" hostid="261"></div>BTS Skytrain Bangkok's <a href="https://www.bts.co.th/eng/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">BTS Skytrain</a> system is the city's main public transport vein. It connects to all other transport systems (<a href="https://metro.bemplc.co.th/MRT-System-Map?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">MRT underground</a>, <a href="https://www.chaophrayaexpressboat.com/home?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Chao Phraya Express Boat</a>, and <a href="https://www.srtet.co.th/index.php/en" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Airport Rail Link</a>) and is essential for exploring busy downtown areas with its Sukhumvit and Silom lines.Ticket costs range from 16 up to 59 baht ($0.50 to $1.75) depending on how many stations you are traveling to. It's always best to check on Google Maps whether the BTS or MRT will be the closest walking distance from where you want to go.The airport link connects to the MRT at the Makkasan/Sukhumvit station and connects to the BTS Skytrain at the Sala Daeng/Silom, Sukhumvit/Asoke stations, and Mo Chit/Chatuchak stations. It also services Bangkok's railway station, Hua Lamphong, where you may depart or arrive to and from other parts of Thailand. For travelers, it also offers sightseeing, too.Fares, which range from 15 to 32 baht ($0.45 to $1), can be paid at the pier kiosks or on the boat. At lightning speed, the boat workers jump out and tie the boat to the pier, and you jump right in. A boat worker daringly walks along the edges ticketing passengers (8 to 20 baht depending upon distance).When buying your ticket, say which stop you want to get off at. It'll be your job to watch the names on the piers as they pass by, stand up to signal you'll be getting off, and jump right back out again.Grab rideshare app In recent years, the ride-hailing app <a href="https://www.grab.com/th/en/transport/taxi/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Grab</a> has become a convenient way to book taxi and motorbike rides. These days, it tends to even be more affordable and transparently priced than hailing taxis and motorbikes from off the street. To do this, pull back the sheets and inspect the mattress on any beds where you are staying for signs of bed bugs, as well as any soft or upholstered furniture.According to the Cleveland Clinic, common <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/signs-of-bed-bugs-2018-8">signs of bed bugs</a> include:<ul><li>Live bugs or their exoskeletons around the folds of bedsheets and mattresses,</li><li>Red/ rust-colored spots on bedsheets, pajamas, or nearby objects (this is essentially what bed bugs poop out after feeding on blood), and</li><li>A sweet, musty smell.</li></ul>If you are worried about bringing bedbugs home, or suspect you may have been sleeping somewhere infested by them, the Cleveland Clinic also recommends immediately washing everything you brought with you in your luggage after traveling. Wash everything in hot, soapy water, and then dry on high heat for 20 minutes when you get home to reduce the chances of bringing bed bugs into your home.

Interestingly, most of this demand came from Delhi, making it the city with the highest aspirations to travel again. Through OYO’s consumer survey, safety emerged as the consumer’s top priority, further to which 56% would opt to travel via a private vehicle to nearby locations with their family or friends. The survey also highlights that travellers are most likely to plan their vacations between 1 - 3 days. Very close to the survey findings, OYO has observed that Delhiites took inter-state road trips to tourist hotspots, with Jaipur and Agra topping charts. Majority travellers from Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai preferred to spend their long weekend along the exotic and relaxing beaches of Goa. Down South, Kochi was the most popular leisure destination, with most people coming into the city from Bangalore, Kozhikode, and Thiruvananthapuram. As for leisure destinations like Lucknow, Jaipur and Vishakhapatnam, most demand stemmed from Bhubaneshwar and Vijaywada respectively. <ul class="summary-list"><li>From Saint-Tropez to Marseille and Nice, parties across the French Riviera this summer have been making international headlines.</li><li>In conversations with Business Insider, several French residents described a scene of non-stop partying and minimal mask-wearing.</li><li>In recent weeks, restaurants and night clubs across Saint-Tropez have been forced to close down.</li><li><a href="https://www.santepubliquefrance.fr/regions/provence-alpes-cote-d-azur-et-corse/documents/bulletin-regional/2020/surveillance-epidemiologique-en-paca.-point-au-12-aout-2020">According to a release</a> from the public health department of <keyword id="6354785" type="LOCATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="france">France</keyword>, the positivity rate in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, which includes the French Riviera, has climbed from 1.7% on August 5 to 2.8% on August 12. </li><li>Business Insider talked to French locals, parsed through local and national reports, and dove into social media posts to piece together the story of the French Riviera's pandemic <keyword id="56" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Party">party</keyword> summer. </li></ul>At Nikki Beach Saint-Tropez, the party was on but the masks were off.Half-naked bodies in neon bathing suits danced under towering palm trees at the A-list beach club. Champagne was flowing, and phones were out to document it all. It was the prime setting for a social media firestorm.As one 20-year-old Parisian told Business Insider of her two-week Saint-Tropez vacation in July: "Mostly, I partied."During France's two-month lockdown from March to May, Saint-Tropez had been what <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/saint-tropez-riviera-coronavirus-covid-closed/2020/08/08/e0de205e-d8ca-11ea-a788-2ce86ce81129_story.html">The Washington Post's Dana Thomas</a> dubbed a "<keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword>-free bubble on the Mediterranean," with few reported coronavirus cases. Beach clubs and restaurants reopened in June with limited capacity and mask mandates.But from July 25 to August 1, per the regional health agency, Saint-Tropez saw 65 new cases. As a result, the town shuttered several restaurants and dayclubs and issued a new mask mandate. Similar stories are unfolding in other towns across the French Riviera.Business Insider was not able to obtain statistics for each city's new coronavirus cases, but various reports indicate what the situation looks like across the French Riviera. <a href="https://theglobepost.com/2020/07/20/france-second-wave/">Nice and Marseille</a> each have an infection spread rate of 1.55, higher than France's infection spread rate of 1.2. In Marseilles, there are <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/tamarathiessen/2020/08/15/france-coronavirus-paris-marseille-high-risk-zones/#1c6bc15175d3">57 coronavirus cases for every 100,000 people</a> — higher than the national average of 34 cases. And <a href="https://www.santepubliquefrance.fr/regions/provence-alpes-cote-d-azur-et-corse/documents/bulletin-regional/2020/surveillance-epidemiologique-en-paca.-point-au-12-aout-2020">per a release from the public health department of France</a>, the positivity rate in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, which includes the French Riviera, increased from 1.7% on August 5 to 2.8% on August 12.On Friday, Jérôme Salomon, a French health ministry official, declared Marseille (along with Paris) an at-risk zone for coronavirus due to an uptick in cases. "The situation is deteriorating from week to week," <a href="https://statesville.com/news/world/the-latest-paris-marseille-declared-at-risk-zones/article_c0a5e4d5-c1d5-5e17-bade-f668ad8ffc6d.html">he said on France Inter radio</a>. A newly issued government decree now allows authorities to impose restrictions in the area.Martin Blachier, an epidemiologist at Universite de Versailles Saint Quentin, told Business Insider that the French Riviera and Paris are the two most concerning regions in France where the coronavirus is escalating. "The virus circulates mainly in very young people here in France, between 20 and 30 years old mostly," he said.So, how did this Mediterranean paradise wind up facing a fresh outbreak of cases? To piece together an understanding of the French Riveria's summer, Business Insider talked to five locals and tourists in France's southeastern coast, parsed through local and national reports from news outlets, reviewed press releases, and dove into social media posts from the area. We found that the coronavirus won't stop the French Riviera from partying — but that curbing the parties also presents a challenge in its own right.<h2>'Like living on vacation'</h2>The French Riviera is the place for the world's elite to rub shoulders every summer. The ports glitter with superyachts. Craggy cliffs jut over a turquoise sea, forming the French Riviera's famously rocky coastline. Quaint villages and coves are hidden between the region's cities and towns, the most famous of which are Saint-Tropez, Nice, and Cannes.Saint-Tropez, known as "<a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/st-tropez-yacht-billionaire-decline">billionaires' harbor</a>" and made famous by Brigitte Bardot's 1956 film "<a href="https://theculturetrip.com/europe/france/articles/the-beauty-of-st-tropez-captured-on-film/Woman_(1956_film)">And God Created Women</a>," is a jetsetter's paradise. Cannes, home to the annual Cannes Film Festival, lures in starlets and wealthy Hollywood types. And Nice is less party and more <a href="https://www.travelandleisure.com/travel-guide/nice-cote-dazur">highbrow culture</a>, attracting artists and aristocrats. It's the second-largest French city on the Mediterranean coast after Marseille, which is known as an <a href="https://www.travelandleisure.com/travel-guide/marseilles">artsy</a>, <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/france/cote-d-azur/marseille/articles/marseille-travel-guide/">boisterous, and edgy</a> city.As a 22-year-old French local who lives just outside of Marseille told Business Insider, "French Riviera is like living on vacation."<div type="image" title="Saint Tropez, France" height="1669" width="2226" msid="77624582" hostid="261"></div>In a typical year, the area mostly draws the international tourist crowd, Emma Carnot, a local Antibes resident, told Business Insider. She said they're often wealthy American or Chinese travelers, and some European middle class families. This year, though, she's seeing more French and European visitors. "We see way more of these young people that used to go to Thailand to go crazy," Carnot said, adding that their hunt for a party often leads them to Cannes and Saint-Tropez. "They end up here and create more problems."Tourist season typically starts in mid-April, she said. But according to a press release from the French Riviera Tourism community, this summer started off slow. Hotel occupancy was at 22% in June. By the end of July, it had increased to 72%. Data on hotel occupancy rates in August was not yet available by the time of this article's publication.<h2>The coronavirus comes to France</h2>The first known source of the coronavirus in Europe was in France: <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/two-coronavirus-cases-confirmed-in-france-first-in-europe">On January 24</a>, two people who had recently traveled to China tested positive in France for the coronavirus.On March 3, President Emmanual Macron <a href="https://www.marketwatch.com/story/france-germany-close-schools-in-virus-cluster-zones-2020-03-03">shut down 120 schools</a>. On March 12, he <a href="https://www.usnews.com/news/world/articles/2020-03-12/france-to-close-schools-to-curb-coronavirus-spread-macron">shuttered all nurseries, schools, and universities</a> after discovering the outbreak in France was more widespread than previously believed. And <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-52615733#:~:text=The%20government%20has%20released%20a,reopen%20in%20the%20coming%20weeks.">as of March 17</a>, France was officially under lockdown.While most of France was struggling to obtain coronavirus tests at this time, the president of the gated Saint-Tropez neighborhood Les Parcs de Saint-Tropez <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/french-riviera-billionaire-enclave-private-coronavirus-testing-2020-4">set up a private testing site</a> for its billionaire residents. The preferential treatment caused an uproar in the local community.<div type="image" title="nice beach" height="1667" width="2222" msid="77624583" hostid="261"></div>Schools and businesses gradually began to reopen on <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/31094120-22ba-4a9a-8122-2851aebf7549">May 11</a> with social distancing measures and a face mask mandate. By June 22, France's coronavirus cases had slowed down from its peak of 7,500 in a single day to about 450 cases per day, <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/31094120-22ba-4a9a-8122-2851aebf7549">per The Financial Times</a>. Jean-Francois Delfraissy, France's top scientific adviser, declared the virus was "under control." In June, <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/31094120-22ba-4a9a-8122-2851aebf7549">Macron told his country</a>, "We are going to get back to our art de vivre and recover our taste for liberty."But Blachier, the epidemiologist, told The Financial Times in June that France's increased testing and tracing capacity may not weather a resurgence. That's not a good sign considering that Salomon, the health ministry official, told Parliament the same month he expected more cases during the summer holidays. Then came August, the month of the European holiday. Just eight days into August, France saw its sharpest 24-hour increase in coronavirus cases — 2,500 — since May, <a href="https://www.france24.com/en/20200812-france-sees-highest-new-daily-virus-cases-since-may">reported local outlet France 24</a>. Health officials said indicators tracking the pandemic were "officially worsening." As of publishing time, coronavirus cases in France <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/world/europe/france-coronavirus-cases.html">continue to climb</a>. <h2>The French Riviera is facing a pandemic party problem</h2>Even in the age of the coronavirus, the French Riviera is one big party. Partiers are flocking to Cannes, where Juliette Perelin <a href="https://www.parismatch.com/Actu/Societe/Covid-19-l-ete-de-tous-les-dangers-1697457">wrote for Paris Match</a> that "the instructions go to bed with the sun." In Nice, a dense, maskless <a href="https://edm.com/events/nice-france-electronic-event">crowd of 5,000 danced to EDM artist The Avener</a> at an outdoor concert on July 12.Concertgoers looked "like they were in a dance club," Carnot, the Antibes local, told Business Insider. Carnot noted that she was there for work and that she was one of the few people she saw wearing a mask. "It was a scary feeling to think the whole night, 'What is happening, are we making a huge mistake?'" Over in Marseille, newly declared at-risk as of August 14, the coronavirus wasn't stopping the fourth annual musical festival Paradise at Sea. Thirty boats and floating rafts heaved for 10 hours as bikini-clad attendees partied with wine bottles in hand. Event security <a href="https://www.parismatch.com/Actu/Societe/Covid-19-l-ete-de-tous-les-dangers-1697457">took temperatures and shouted mask requirements</a>, but also said they wouldn't be going to the police.The 22-year-old French local Business Insider spoke to said the party scene in Marseille is active, especially on popular rooftops like R2 Rooftop and Baou. At Baou, she noted, temperature checks are conducted and masks are required to gain entry. By once inside, the masks come off."Absolutely no guests wear masks during the party," she said. "I feel like nothing has changed except for closed nightclubs and new rules."In Saint-Tropez, as Thomas wrote for The Post and as the Nikki Beach scene shows, the limited capacity and staff mask rules became more lenient as the summer wore on. At restaurants, diners danced sans masks, Thomas said; at beach clubs, waitstaff were often maskless or wore masks improperly and many clubgoers refused to put on masks."Wearing masks [is] not a sexy look, that's for sure," Patrice de Colmont, owner of the famous beach retreat Club 55, told Thomas. He said half of the clubgoers refused to wear a mask inside to go to the restroom.<div type="image" title="saint tropez" height="1667" width="2223" msid="77624584" hostid="261"></div>Now, Saint-Tropez has had to institute a series of business closures. According to Thomas, three restaurants — Indie Beach House, Pablo, and Noto — were shut down after employees tested positive for the coronavirus, and two beach clubs — Moorea and Verde — were closed after ignoring social distancing rules. Saint-Tropez Deputy Mayor Sylvie Siri told <a href="https://www.varmatin.com/sante/coronavirus-deux-nouveaux-foyers-epidemiques-decouverts-a-saint-tropez-552270">local outlet Var-Matin</a> that the new mask mandates will "serve as an electroshock."Business Insider reached out to the mayors of Saint-Tropez, Marseille, Nice, and Cannes respectively for information on the measures each has taken in response to the pandemic. A representative for the mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard, pointed us to a press release that detailed the steps the city had taken, including a citywide disinfection and a curfew. The mayors of Saint-Tropez, Marseille, and Nice did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<h2>A world that keeps partying and a problem that stretches beyond the French Riviera</h2>The French Riviera is not the only region facing a pandemic party problem.Elsewhere in France, Paris is dealing with crowded cafe terraces and maskless pedestrians, per <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/31094120-22ba-4a9a-8122-2851aebf7549">The Financial Times</a>. In mid-June, thousands of revelers took over Parisian streets for the city's annual Fête de la Musique, <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/ceciliarodriguez/2020/06/22/parisians-tempt-coronavirus-partying-in-the-streets-/#61769e5351cf">drawing criticism</a> from public health officials. And <a href="https://www.france24.com/en/20200810-party-s-over-mountain-rave-riles-remote-french-region">a reported 10,000 people</a> attended an illegal outdoor rave party in France's remote Lozere region on August 10.Outside of France's borders, parties have been raging all summer long, too. The Spanish island of Mallorca <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-spain-mallorca/cracking-down-on-drunken-crowds-mallorca-shuts-party-streets-idUSKCN24G2CI">shut down three main party strips</a> after maskless German and British tourists packed bars. Weeks after reopening, clubs in Barcelona were forced to <a href="https://elpais.com/sociedad/2020-07-23/espana-pone-coto-al-ocio-nocturno-para-contener-el-coronavirus.html">shutter</a> in July due to crowding and lax security measures. A recent party at a Prague nightclub was connected to <a href="https://news.expats.cz/weekly-czech-news/testing-uncovers-65-new-covid-19-infections-connected-to-a-party-in-a-prague-nightclub-party/">65 new coronavirus cases</a>. And in the Hamptons, a <a href="https://www.insider.com/the-chainsmokers-concert-drive-in-covid-backlash-2020-7">reported 3,000 people</a> attended a Chainsmokers "drive-in" concert, which is currently under investigation. As people across the world seek the freedom of their pre-pandemic <keyword id="6360041" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="life">life</keyword>, reckless behavior — or even just behavior that was normal before the pandemic — can risk setting back any progress made in slowing down the spread of coronavirus. Blachier said that while the virus is circulating more around young people in France right now, it can put more vulnerable populations at risk. "That's exactly what happened in the US, like in Florida," Blachier said. But he also pointed out that controlling this kind of behavior is difficult."You can't tell young people they can't have parties because they need to have parties," he said. "They need to live. They need to have a life … but they need to protect their family."As for the 20-year-old Parisian who spent two weeks partying in Saint-Tropez, she and her friends got tested upon returning to Paris. The results: negative. "I was concerned, of course," she said. "Not for me, but I was afraid to spread the virus to my family."

They are all healthy (aged in their 20s to 50s), living in 4 different houses. Five of the eight go to work (in construction, physical therapy, and school administration). Two of the eight have already been infected with and recovered from COVID-19.One young relative who works in a lab in Connecticut planned to fly in for the holiday. She has been living alone since March, wears a mask around other people, and is very careful. She has not had COVID-19.She has booked a direct flight to <keyword id="6354692" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Travel">travel</keyword> from Connecticut to Wisconsin, and planned to wear a mask and glasses for the duration, before getting picked up by relatives to drive home from the airport. They're only going to have Thanksgiving dinner with the nuclear family of five that's already been in a pod together. These comments are based on the original plan.Experts' verdictAmesh Adalja, senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security: This is a relatively safe plan.If most of the Thanksgiving group has been gathering on a weekly basis, they've already assumed a level of risk that comes with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/small-gatherings-and-social-bubbles-pose-coronavirus-infection-risks-2020-10">forming a pod</a>."But, there's always a caveat that even when you have a pod you don't really realize how big your pod is," Adalja said. "If some of those people are going to work as a physical therapist or were working in a school, that pod is a little bit bigger than just the eight people that they say." The fact that two family members have recovered from COVID-19, affording them some level of immunity, and that some are working from home, also lowers their collective risk, making this a "relatively safe" plan by Adalja's evaluation.To minimize the risk added by an outside guest, the person traveling from Connecticut should be extra careful and try to shrink her circle of contacts in the week before traveling. She should also be prepared to get a test or quarantine for 14 days upon her return to the East Coast.Matthew Fox, professor of epidemiology at Boston University: This is a high risk plan.Matthew Fox, on the other hand, said he considers this level of inter-household mixing high risk, and that risk is made even greater by the addition of a guest <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/thanksgiving-coronavirus-millions-travelling-despite-cdc-advice-over-covid-19-2020-11">traveling by plane</a>."The fact they are mixing with a number of other families means that they are sharing risks across those families," Fox wrote in an email to Insider. "Having additional people for the holiday, especially one who has to fly to get there, makes the risk even greater."Lindsey Leininger, clinical professor at Tuck School of Business and CEO of Dear Pandemic: Moving outside could reduce the risk by "a whole heck of a lot."Leininger said she looks at COVID-19 risk protection like a Jenga game: a tower of protective behaviors with the most fundamental factors at the bottom. One of those foundational blocks — keeping the community infection rate down — has already been pulled out in Wisconsin, where cases are surging.The Harrington family still has control over another fundamental Jenga block: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/risk-of-coronavirus-transmission-lower-outdoors-evidence-2020-5">staying outside</a>."When I look at a situation like that, I think, 'Wow, wouldn't it be great if, instead of sharing a long indoor meal together, maybe they got together for an outdoor bonfire?'" She works from home and socializes with friends at a distance, outdoors, with masks. When socializing indoors, she opens all windows. Mia fell ill with COVID-19 symptoms in April while living with a relative who was COVID-19-positive. There were no tests available at the time to confirm Mia was COVID-19-positive. She has since been exposed to COVID twice — once to people with symptoms, once without — and has not gotten sick. For Thanksgiving, Mia is meeting a school friend in Chicago, Illinois, to pick up his car and help him drive it to New York, where it's being sold.She's getting a direct flight to Chicago from New York City. Her friend is flying in from Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he lives alone. He works from home, and does some socializing indoors without masks. He has not had COVID-19. They both plan to get tested five days before flying and self-isolate from then until the flight.On arrival, Mia and her friend will stay two days in an Airbnb in Chicago, with no plans to venture out. They will then pick up their car, and drive to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where they will stay in an Airbnb for three nights for Thanksgiving. They will stay inside the entire time, cooking food and hanging out. Then, they are driving to New York City. Mia's New Mexico friend will fly home from there.Experts' verdictAdalja: This is a pretty low risk plan.While a road trip with multiple stops might not sound like a good idea in theory, Adalja said this particular plan is relatively low risk because it only involves two people, and one of them has likely had COVID-19 already. "We're not able to officially make public health recommendations on people who have recovered," Adalja said. "But we know that people who have had COVID-19, at least for several months, are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/long-term-coronavirus-immunity-t-cells-2020-8">not likely to get reinfected</a>."The person at risk here, Adalja said, is the one coming from New Mexico. He'll likely have to get tested or quarantine when he gets back to his home state.Fox: This plan is a moderate risk for Mia and a high risk for her friend.Fox also said the plan is less risky for a person who has already had COVID-19, although it's too soon to say how much that risk is reduced.Getting tested and minimizing contact ahead of time are also good ways to reduce the risks associated with traveling during a pandemic, Fox said. But the test only captures a moment in time. It can't tell you about your exposures while flying, and it may miss the most recent exposures if you were in contact with people just before the test.With this in mind, Fox said he would still rate the plan as high-risk for Mia's friend, who has not had COVID-19 and could be exposed while <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/is-flying-safe-right-now-coronavirus">flying on a plane</a>. Mia would incur a moderate level of risk since she can't be sure about her level of immunity and she's mixing with someone outside of her bubble.Leininger: This would be the year to not take this trip.Compared to the other experts, Leininger was less confident about Mia's level of immunity. She said there's no such thing as an "immunity passport." Even if having had COVID-19 keeps Mia from getting sick again, it's unclear if she could get reinfected and transmit the virus to others."While there are some hopeful signs that there is strong immunity conferred from having COVID, we don't know how that actually plays out," Leininger said. "We don't know if that actually keeps you from getting reinfected, or if it just potentially keeps you from getting sick."Given that neither immunity nor testing before traveling is a sure thing, Leininger said this is not the year for a big trip — especially not a trip to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chicago-mayor-lori-lightfoot-urges-people-against-covid-fatigue-2020-11">Chicago, a coronavirus hotspot</a> that is already overwhelmed.<h2>At home in the New York City area with husband and kids, and mother-in-law coming for dinner</h2>- Julie Zeveloff, Editor-in-Chief of Insider Life <div type="image" title="Julie and family last Thanksgiving" height="577" width="768" msid="79399046" hostid="261"></div>Julie works from home. She lives with her husband, who works three to four days a week in an office in New York City with five other people. He commutes there by car.She has a nine-month-old who never leaves home, and a two-year-old who attends preschool three hours a day for four days a week.The family also has a nanny who visits weekdays, and is mostly isolated on the weekends.Julie's family is going to have dinner at home. Her mother-in-law, who is over 65 and lives alone in an apartment in New York City, will join them and stay overnight. She follows social distancing rules. They already see each other indoors, unmasked a couple of times a week.Experts' verdictAdalja: This plan is very low risk.According to <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/holidays.html">CDC guidelines</a>, the safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving is with members of your own household. Adalja said in this case, Julie's mother-in-law is essentially included in her household by way of their weekly visits.He said the big question to consider in any case is, "Does the Thanksgiving get-together pose an increased risk compared to what their baseline risk is?" Considering that the Zeveloff family is not adding any outside guests or changing their level of caution, Thanksgiving poses no more risk than a regular dinner with Grandma.Fox: This plan is a moderate risk, but it's a risk they've already taken.Bringing in even one outside guest adds some risk to any Thanksgiving gathering, but this situation is less risky than the others by Fox's evaluation."Ideally, we wouldn't be meeting indoors with anyone who we do not currently live with, but in this case, it seems like they see their mother-in-law as part of their bubble," Fox said. He went on to rank this plan as "moderate risk," due to the family not wearing masks and bringing in one person from outside the home. But, like Adalja, he noted that this is a risk the family is already taking once or twice a week.Leininger: This is beyond my comfort level, but I have a lot of empathy for this situation.Leininger said she's in a similar situation with two young kids and occasional visits to the office, so she knows this is a tough choice. On Wednesday, local disease-control authorities in Wuhan issued <a href="https://www.yicai.com/brief/100478721.html">an order</a> to quarantine the city, which is slated to go into effect at 10 a.m. local time on Thursday. The order stops all public transportation, including city buses, trains, and ferries. It also prevents any buses or trains from coming into or leaving the city and grounds all planes at the Wuhan airport.According to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), this move will help Chinese authorities control the outbreak in the country as well as stop the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus to other countries."What they're doing is a very, very strong measure," Ghebreyesus said in a WHO press conference on Wednesday afternoon.<h2>Quarantining 11 million people</h2>Wuhan is China's fifth-largest city, and more than 3,200 square miles in size. By comparison, New York City has 8 million people - nearly 3 million fewer than Wuhan. The city is split into three districts: Hankou, Wuchang, and Hanyang, with rivers cutting between them. Many people work in one district and live in another, so the ban on inter-district travel will likely cripple the city's normal functioning.According to local authorities, citizens are no longer permitted to leave Wuhan without a "special reason."The announcement comes as the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chinese-lunar-new-year-photos-largest-annual-human-migration-2020-1#china-celebrates-for-another-15-days-after-that-the-year-of-the-pig-ends-and-the-year-of-the-rat-begins-16">Chinese New Year</a> approaches. Usually, the annual 40-day holiday leads the country's trains, planes, roads, and ferries to fill as 3 billion people journey home to be with family.The Chinese government has asked people to cancel plans to visit Wuhan; president Xi Jinping said it was "extremely crucial" to stop the virus.<h2>Efforts to stop the spread of this coronavirus</h2>The CDC announced Tuesday that five US airports - New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and Chicago O'Hare International Airport - would begin screening passengers for the virus.Airports in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, and South Korea are also screening passengers for fever.Travelers leaving Wuhan so far this week had their temperatures checked.
