Although not everyone's favorite location, it's a valuable feature for those who use both Bluetooth and wired earphones. Another standout feature is the inclusion of an IR blaster, which is becoming rare in modern devices. Although not frequently utilized, it can prove to be helpful in emergencies, such as when TV remote batteries run out or when multiple devices need to be controlled with a single remote. The side-mounted fingerprint sensor is quick and efficient, allowing fast unlocking of the device. While some might prefer an under-display fingerprint sensor, its current placement remains a matter of personal preference and not a major issue. The panel impresses with its brightness, reaching a peak of 900 nits, ensuring a well-lit and evenly illuminated experience indoors. However, outdoor visibility can be challenging, so it's best to disable auto-brightness and manually adjust it when needed. The display supports a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz, providing smooth motion for all on-screen content. Reading articles or playing games on the Redmi 12 is a delight, thanks to the smooth and immersive experience it offers. Throughout my two-week experience with the Redmi 12, including a holiday week, it became my go-to device for content bingeing. It handles HD formats flawlessly on various OTT applications, and I particularly enjoyed watching Marvel's Secret Invasion on Disney+ Hotstar. The colors were slightly on the colder side, but it didn't significantly impact the overall experience. The sharp output allowed me to catch every detail, although the HDR performance could be further improved as black levels occasionally suffered. Regarding audio, the Redmi 12 has a single bottom-firing speaker setup, which is not its strongest aspect. At times, the audio output felt underwhelming, so I'd recommend using TWS earbuds or wired earphones to fully enjoy your content with improved sound quality. Software The Redmi 12 series comes with the advantage of shipping with Android 13 out of the box, along with the latest MiUi 13. This sets it apart from its Note siblings, which originally came with Android 12 upon release. Redmi 12 continues the brand's efforts to minimize bloatware, although there are some unwanted additions to the skin, such as the Opera browser and a suggested games tab. Thankfully, users have the option to uninstall some of these pre-installed apps. Considering the price point, the controlled bloatware on this device is commendable. The MiUi 13 on the Redmi 12 maintains the familiar and colorful animations we are accustomed to on Redmi devices. The user interface is designed to be accessible to a wide range of users, and it achieves this with its clean and straightforward layout. Customization options abound, offering a variety of wallpapers and themes to choose from. Personally, I prefer the stock skin as it looks the best to me. One common issue with third-party skins is their deviation from Google's layout, especially in areas like the drop-down menu. I find the big, chunky tiles of the Google skin layout easier to interact with and visually appealing. This observation isn't specific to Redmi but applies generally to various skins.The Asus <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/asusrogphone6review/articleshow/95862437.cms">ROG Phone 6</a> stands out as a successful example of integrating these different skins seamlessly. The UI has proven to be stable throughout my experience, and I have not encountered any troublesome bugs. It's important to note that this is a brand-new device running on a stable UI and an established operating system. In my testing, the Redmi 12 achieved a Geekbench score of 783 for single-core performance and 1898 for multi-core performance. Gaming performance on the Redmi 12 is notably good. I tested it with COD: Mobile, running the game smoothly on high-quality graphics and very high frame rates. The flat display and strong internet connection contributed to a fluid gaming experience, making me feel almost invincible in the game. Even Asphalt 9 performed well, with no noticeable heating issues. However, gaming with a lower battery, especially under 25% and with maxed out settings at a 90Hz refresh rate, may lead to some warmth on the device, as the vapor chamber cooling might struggle to keep up. The variant I have comes with 8GB of RAM and an optional RAM boost of 4GB, which surprisingly made a difference, especially with heavier apps. The smartphone was able to handle them for longer periods without any noticeable slowdowns. During my two weeks of usage, the Redmi 12 demonstrated lightning-fast boot-up speeds, whether launching heavy apps or lightweight ones like calculator and weather As for storage, the variant with me offers 256GB of internal storage, which should be more than sufficient for most users. However, if you prefer using cloud storage solutions, the 128GB option should also be enough. The battery performance of the Redmi 12 Pro stands out as its strongest feature, thanks to its 5000mAh battery. On heavy usage days involving camera usage, constant social media activity, and all-day content consumption, the smartphone provided an average screen on time of 5 hours. On lighter days, where activities were limited to emails and WhatsApp, the screen time increased to about 6 hours. Better yet, the camera can hold details respectably across 1X, 6X, and 10X digital zoom. Portrait shots from the device are decent, with the 2MP depth sensor adding value to the setup. The edge detection is satisfactory, and I also liked the black-and-white portrait shots from the camera. Low light performance from the camera is decent, but you will compromise on details on most days. The output can be grainy, even with the night mode on, and the prolonged post-processing of the image gets annoying. Some casual shots are not a problem, but expecting quality shots might lead to disappointment. The video output from the Redmi 12 maxes out at 1080P 30 fps, which is not stellar but not shabby either. Yes, it’s not meant for professionals to shoot videos, but coupled with features like dual video, your experience becomes wholesome. The front camera is a 8MP shooter, which holds up well. With proper lighting, the color reproduction and the details are on point, but the results dip in low lighting conditions. The AI here as well works smoothly, and the alterations here do not look fake but rather enhance the output. The edge detection in portrait mode is also spot on. The selfie camera can also record 1080P videos at 30fps, and the results are really good for the price, especially paired with the crisp audio output. Verdict Redmi 12 5G proves to be a solid entry level device for buyers looking at budget options. The smartphone gets the basics right with a big display, decent processor and an efficient battery life. However it does lag behind in terms of camera performance. However, if you can stretch your budget, then you should check out the Redmi Note 12 or the Nord CE 3 Lite. Both the devices deliver a more balanced performance without putting a dent in your pocket.

A smartphone that helped Redmi solidify their foothold in the mid-range market, Note is definitely an important brand for Redmi. Following what we saw last year, we have three different avatars of the Redmi Note this year, the regular 13, then a 13 Pro and Finally a 13 Pro+. I am reviewing the 13 Pro+ the upper end of the bracket. With an all new design, improved cameras and a curved screen this device looks worthy of the note name on paper. However, is this the best device in the market today? Competition has caught up with Redmi and we have some serious alternatives in the market. So, who is the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ for? Calling the design innovative would be a stretch, what we can call it is - updated. In line with what we see on most upper mid-range smartphones these days, the 13 Pro+ also follows a sleek design language paired with a curved screen. What I find amusing about the 13 Pro+ is the execution, since the material Redmi has used here definitely feels premium. The device feels light in hand and gives you confidence since you can maintain a firm grip around it. I have a personal bias towards more traditional glass sandwich designs, but I make exceptions when a device gets the curve right. The variant with me is in the fusion purple color which follows a mondrian pattern dividing the colors in square blocks. It’s definitely done tastefully and the textured back adds to the appeal. However I personally incline to the more subtle black variant. But if you want to flaunt your new Redmi Note 13 Pro+ then the fusion purple is definitely the color for you. Also on the back we have the triple camera system which is now updated, more about it later. Keeping in line with the overall experience the execution of the module is also in good taste, with a new placement for the dual flash. It is now placed on top right, a new favorite spot for OEMs. We saw this with Vivo X100 Pro &amp; OnePlus Open as well. <div type="image" title="Redmi Note 13 Pro+ sports a slim build." msid="106617058" hostid="261" sizebytes="36102" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Redmi Note 13 Pro+ sports a slim build.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Getting back to the quality here the device comes with IP68 water resistant rating, a definitive advantage over its competition. Moreover the front display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus + something we don’t see at this price point. Always good to know your display will be protected against minor scratches or sudden falls especially if you are clumsy like me. Moving to other design elements, on the right edge we have the volume rockers next to the power button. At the bottom we have the Type-C port next to the speaker grill. We also have the SIM tray, the device supports 2 nano SIMs. On top we have the second speaker alongside the IR blaster. Overall the Redmi Note 13 Pro+’s new design can be dubbed as a necessary upgrade for the current times. While it does look a lot like its contemporaries like the Realme 11 Pro+ the color scheme and build quality creates a noticeable distinction. Display <div type="image" title="The display behaves like a flagship screen." msid="106617107" hostid="261" sizebytes="41066" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The display behaves like a flagship screen.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Redmi Note 13 Pro+ features a 6.6-inch AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1220 x 2712 Pixels. Like the previous iteration, this is a punch-hole screen with very thin bezels except and an improved chin. This is a new panel altogether with an improved peak brightness at 1800 nits. Like last time the max refresh rate of the display is 120Hz. The screen is highly convenient for outdoor use, allowing easy text readability. However, I wouldn't suggest leaving the auto brightness feature on. While it effectively adjusts brightness indoors, I found myself manually readjusting it when outdoors. Regarding display capabilities, it supports a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, with options for 60Hz or auto-refresh. I usually have reservations about auto-refresh rates due to their inconvenience when switching between web pages and games, often resulting in visible lag. Surprisingly, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ impressed me here. The auto-switch function was smoother than anticipated, making transitions between web pages, games, and apps easy on the eyes.Nevertheless, for my testing, I preferred sticking to the maximum setting of 120Hz. Overall, the experience is seamless. Whether reading online articles or gaming, the display performs exceptionally well in every aspect. While the display is indeed gorgeous you will face some mistouches on this one sometimes. Now I have been around curved displays a lot lately so I know how to avoid mistouches. So let me tell you a simple trick, avoid using the slide in menu on the right corner for short cuts. Rest it's a solid experience. I've spent nearly two weeks with the Note 13 Pro+, including a holiday week when it became my primary device for binge-watching content. To start, the device impressively supports HD formats across all OTT applications, delivering a noticeable enhancement. As part of my Christmas tradition, I watched the remastered HD version of "Home Alone 2," a movie from the early '90s, and the Note 13 Pro+ truly brought it to life. Though the colors leaned slightly towards the colder side, it didn't significantly affect the viewing experience. The display output was sharp, allowing me to easily perceive all the traps set by Macaulay Culkin's character, Kevin, in the movie. The HDR performance was equally impressive, delivering deep blacks on the screen. Furthermore, the display boasts Dolby Vision, enhancing compatible content. Watching "What If" on Hotstar, I experienced a noticeable improvement in both visual and audio output. The colors appeared more accurate, and the audio output retained finer details. Paired with this display is a fairly loud dual-speaker system. While the sound quality isn't top-tier, it's certainly sufficient to fill a room. With the device's sizable screen, you might even consider skipping a Bluetooth speaker when watching content with someone else. We also get an optical in-display sensor here which is fairly quick to register and unlock the device. It’s standard and familiar in terms of results and process. Software The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ series comes pre-installed with Android 13 alongside MiUi 14. An imminent update to Android 14 for this smartphone is expected, which will likely impact its functionality. Compared to its predecessor, the Note 13 series notably carries significantly less bloatware, a contrast from the excessive preloaded software and ads that plagued the Note 12. Redmi has made substantial improvements in managing these issues, leading to a cleaner MiUi layout that's intuitive to navigate and comprehend upon interaction. MiUi 14 maintains the familiar Redmi device interface with its recognizable and vibrant animations. A successful UI, in my opinion, resonates well with a diverse user base, and MiUi 14 achieves this by being sleek and user-friendly. The range of customization choices offered is extensive, featuring various wallpapers and themes. While some may prefer third-party skins, I find that the stock skin offers the most visually appealing experience. However, one drawback common to many third-party skins is their departure from Google's standard skin layouts. Furthermore, additional features have been incorporated to enhance specific experiences, notably the Game Turbo. This feature acts as a game hub, displaying the smartphone's temperature and allowing users to configure custom profiles while gaming. Additionally, there's a handy shortcut for screen recording, which might not attract every user but can greatly benefit serious gamers. In my experience, the UI has remained stable without encountering any disruptive bugs, despite being a new device operating on a stable UI with a well-established operating system. It will be intriguing to observe the performance post the anticipated Android 14 update. Performance The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ runs on the Mediatek Dimensity 7200+ SoC, a new processor positioned within this price range. It promises surprises, setting itself apart in terms of performance metrics. According to Geekbench scores, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ achieves 1121 and 2630 for single-core and multi-core performances, respectively. This hardware prowess translates into slightly enhanced gaming performance on the device. I tested its capabilities using COD: Mobile as my benchmark game. Impressively, the smartphone effortlessly handled high-quality graphics and maintained very high frame rates. The gaming experience felt smooth, aided by a robust internet connection and the flat display, contributing to an exceptional gameplay performance. However, gaming with lower battery levels, particularly under 20%, tends to warm up the device, especially when operating at maximum settings with a 120Hz refresh rate. At this point, even the vapor chamber cooling system struggles to contain the heat. The model I have boasts 12GB of RAM, with an option for a RAM boost that adds an additional 3GB. Despite this, understanding the necessity of this feature has been somewhat challenging, given that 12GB typically suffices to handle all tasks efficiently. During my two weeks of usage, the phone consistently exhibited lightning-fast boot-up speeds, accommodating both heavy-duty applications and lighter ones like calculators, weather apps, and similar utilities. For storage, my variant offers 256GB of internal space, which should meet the needs of most users. Nevertheless, if reliance on cloud storage solutions is preferred, the 128GB option would suffice. The standout feature of the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is its battery performance. On intense usage days involving heavy camera usage, constant social media engagement, and continuous content consumption, the smartphone managed an average screen-on time of 5 hours. On lighter usage days focused mainly on emails and WhatsApp, the screen-on time could extend to 6 hours. Remarkably, the 120W fast charging capability stands out as a significant highlight. With mobile data activated, the smartphone can reach a full charge, going from 0% to 100%, in approximately 25 minutes. Camera The Note 13 Pro+ brings back the triple-camera setup. It features a primary 200MP sensor equipped with OIS, alongside an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP macro camera. While the ultra-wide and macro cameras are familiar, the inclusion of the 200MP sensor is a new addition and worth exploring. By default, the primary camera captures pictures in a 50MP resolution, delivering impressive results, especially outdoors under natural lighting. These images maintain natural color tones and exhibit no oversaturation. Additionally, the camera excels in shadow detail and HDR accuracy. While the 50MP resolution captures excellent images, switching to the 200MP resolution elevates the quality further. Switching to the 200MP resolution in the camera settings might not be immediately noticeable, but it significantly enhances the ability to capture intricate details. The resulting images maintain respectable quality even after cropping. The heavily advertised OIS performs admirably, producing sharp shots even when taken from a moving car. However, under artificial lighting conditions, the camera struggles, exhibiting noticeable noise and reduced detail, which improves when utilizing the night mode. Night mode proves effective, delivering accurate colors and precise details, albeit requiring careful framing and focus adjustment. The camera's potential shines through these shots. The portrait mode yields promising results, showcasing edge detection comparable to flagship phone cameras, a notable improvement over previous Redmi Note models. While the ultrawide sensor expands the frame, it noticeably alters color tones, rendering frames undersaturated. Despite its basic 2MP setup, the macro sensor impresses with sharp images and accurate colors. In the video department, while the performance is decent, it lacks standout features. Focus shifting is slower than ideal, potentially causing missed moments. The camera records 4K videos at 30fps, ideal for tripod-based shooting. Moreover, the built-in microphone captures impressive audio, effectively reducing background noise. The selfie camera, a 16MP shooter, performs well for images and even better for videos, enabling swift focus shifts suitable for vlogs. The dedicated vlog mode within the camera app, although complex, offers the capability to create video compilations, akin to video editing apps. The camera app of the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ includes a favored feature: document mode, which functions as a native document scanner—a convenient addition appreciated for its usefulness. Added features like voice shutter and assist cam in the camera app add to the strength of the camera. Overall, the camera setup impresses, albeit with minor limitations and notable strengths. Verdict Redmi Note 13 Pro+ definitely has an advantage over its competitors, with revised specifications, updated design and a superior camera. It is definitely a healthy upgrade over last years 12 Pro+ and takes the note legacy forward in the right direction. However if you find it pricey for a ‘note’ device then I suggest checking out the Redmi Note 13 Pro. With a small compromise on the design it will provide you solid benchmarks and competitive performance.

The Poco F3 GT, the latest smartphone from the stable of the Chinese smartphone maker, promises to deliver the goods to Poco fans and gaming enthusiasts alike. Since the Poco F1’s launch in 2018, the now-independent smartphone maker has launched several smartphones across the budget and mid-range segments. However, most of them have failed to elicit the kind of response that the Poco F1 did – one of the reasons is the price, and the other is, the phones were not targeted at gaming enthusiasts like the F1 was. The Poco F3 GT has a lot going for it in terms of hardware and design. The GT moniker is becoming increasingly common – the Realme GT is another smartphone that is worth a shoutout in this price segment. While this branding is just that – branding – it is intended to suggest that the companies are aiming at gaming enthusiasts. Poco has been subtle with its lines and hasn’t gone overboard to justify the GT moniker, but it has a couple of neat tricks up its sleeve that promise to offer more value. Combined with the 120Hz refresh rate, the Poco F3 GT offers a fluid experience. The MIUI experience is now cleaner than ever before and it has been optimized well, making it a breeze to use. The new control centre and notification panel, for example, does away with blurred background and odd iconography, presenting the notifications and control options clearly. Another key aspect of a smartphone experience is the launcher – it’s often overlooked, but given how often we interact with the homescreen and the app drawer, it is important to have a fast, smooth launcher. This has been improved radically over the past few iterations of MIUI. The power button is placed towards the centre on the right side, and it also doubles up as the fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor is fast and has a high success rate. The buttons are neatly tucked while still being easy to detect. Poco F3 GT gaming, performance and battery life Out of the box, the Poco F3 GT offers a familiar experience if you have used a Xiaomi smartphone before. It runs on the latest Android 11 update with MIUI 12.5 on top. Overall, the user interface has been cleaned up really well and regardless of which Android smartphone you’ve used before, you should feel mostly at home on the Poco F3 GT. As usual, MIUI offers plenty of customization options, right from the lockscreen to the shape of the app icons. There are plenty of options to choose from for the always-on display screen as well, which is another useful feature. The phone does come with a few pre-installed applications, but thankfully, you can uninstall them. Powering the Poco F3 GT is the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The phone handles everything, from games to media apps, with ease. From app loading times to the smoothness of the user interface, everything worked well. <div type="image" title="20210906_121244" msid="86007154" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Poco F3 GT gaming triggers.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> I played popular games like Call of Duty: Mobile and Battlegrounds Mobile India, which the Poco F3 GT handled with ease. The gaming triggers are a nice little addition that makes the experience a little more enjoyable. As for the battery, the Poco F3 GT is powered by a 5,065mAh unit and supports 67W fast charging. It charges from 0-100% in less than 50 minutes, and a full charge usually lasts me an entire day of usage with ease. This includes social media, messaging, calls, streaming a few videos and a few gaming sessions. Overall, the phone is fast enough when it comes to focusing. There are plenty of options available in the camera app, like HDR and AI modes, portrait, short video, panorama, night mode and a dedicated document mode for when you want to click a photo of a piece of paper. What could have been better? The Poco F3 GT’s direct rival is the Realme X7 Max 5G, with both offering comparable performance thanks to the Dimensity 1200 chipset. Both the phones also face similar issues when it comes to camera performance, so there really isn’t a lot that sets the two phones apart. Should you buy the Poco F3 GT? The Poco F3 GT fares very well when it comes to performance. The Dimensity 1200 chipset is fast enough to handle even graphic-intensive games with ease. The display quality is good, and Poco has done a good job with the way the phone feels in hand. MIUI is now cleaner and gets out of your way when it comes to using the phone. The large battery, 67W fast charging, a bright and smooth display and the two dedicated gaming triggers make the Poco F3 GT a very good smartphone in this price segment.  One of the important considerations while buying a phone is its design and build quality. Most budget smartphones now offer decent design and build quality - turning them into basic needs rather than premium features. While the Poco F1 displayed its budget credentials with its plastic build, the Poco X2 shows no such signs. The phone feels solid to hold and looks premium without . squeaky corners. It is covered in glass on the front as well as the back. An unfortunate side-effect of the glass back is that it is slippery, so you might want to use a skin or a case. The back of the phone sports a glossy design and has a circular design around the camera module, which adds a bit of a flair to the otherwise understated looks. Poco X2: Display quality

 The display is one of the most hyped features of the Poco X2, and you might wonder why. Although raw power is still important, most smartphones are now powerful enough. Understandably, companies have now turned their focus to other areas like the display quality. With the X2, Poco is kicking it up a notch with a 120Hz refresh rate display. What does this mean in lay terms? Well, the Poco X2’s display is super smooth. It refreshes 120 times per second while most smartphone displays refresh only 60 times per second. This has an immediate effect on the overall smoothness of user interface elements and animations. For example, scrolling is a lot smoother on the Poco X2 when compared to a regular smartphone. However, not all third-party apps support high refresh rates, in which case the phone will use the regular 60Hz refresh rate. Still, we expect this to improve in the near future as higher refresh rates become more common. Other than that, we also found the display to be bright enough to use in direct sunlight. Poco has used a high-quality display on the Poco X2 and there’s nothing to complain about. Poco X2: Performance While the Poco F1 was powered by a flagship Qualcomm 845 chipset, the Poco X2 uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G, which is a mid-range chipset. However, that does not mean the Poco X2 is slower. We tested the 8GB model with 256GB storage. In our testing, we did not come across any performance issues. The phone performed just fine while playing popular games like Call of Duty: Mobile and PUBG Mobile. Ample memory and fast storage remove any performance bottlenecks, too, so the overall experience is very smooth. In terms of battery life, the Poco X2 easily lasted us for an entire day with regular usage – this includes social media, messaging, calls, watching videos and gaming. There are multiple factors which help the Poco X2’s battery life – the chipset is efficient, the battery is a massive 4,500mAh unit and MIUI prevents apps from wasting too much power. Poco has also bundled a massive 27W fast charger, which charges the Poco X2 from 0% to 100% in less than 1.5 hours. Poco X2: Software The Poco X2 runs on MIUI 11 which is based on Android 10, so you have the latest version of MIUI as well as Android. As of writing this review, Poco has also pushed out the latest security update, which is a positive sign. Overall, MIUI 11 has a wide range of useful features. Xiaomi has tweaked its custom skin extensively over the past few years to add a lot of value, so you don’t have to download a third-party app for many of the features. Another important aspect of the Poco X2 is that it doesn’t have any ads across the interface. Xiaomi generally pushes ads on its phones running on MIUI, but Poco smartphones use a slightly tweaked version that removes these ads. Then being said, the Poco X2 does come with some third-party apps pre-installed, but you can easily uninstall them. You can also disable most of the functions of the built-in security app if you don’t like them, which is a good thing. Poco X2: Cameras

 The Poco X2 has a total of six cameras – four on the back and two on the front. Let’s talk about the cameras on the back first. The Poco X2 is one of the first few phones to come with a brand new 64MP Sony IMX 686 sensor, which succeeds the highly popular 48MP sensor from Sony. The 64MP main camera is assisted by an 8MP ultrawide camera, a 2MP macro and a 2MP depth shooter. Essentially, you have a camera for every situation. In the real world, the Poco X2 performs exceedingly well for the price. Daylight shots capture details effortlessly with good colour reproduction. Ultrawide angle and macro shots take some effort, and they’re not always great, but that’s okay since you will be using the primary camera most of the time. On the front, the Poco X2 has a 20MP selfie camera with a 2MP depth sensor. The addition of an extra camera on the front allows the Poco X2 to capture some really good portrait shots that belie the price of the phone. The Poco X2 does struggle a bit in low-light conditions, but Night mode does a decent job of capturing enough details. All things considered, though, the Poco X2 does very well in terms of camera performance. Verdict Poco X2 is one of the best budget smartphones that you can buy right now. It has a lot of things going for it – the build quality, great display, an adequately powerful chipset, ample memory and storage, great battery life and surprisingly good camera performance. There’s little to complain about. Yes, the circle around the camera module was not necessary, but the phone will likely be in a case, which removes this issue out of the equation. The other problem that could hamper the Poco X2 is the flash sales model – Poco is currently selling the phone in weekly flash sales on Flipkart. You will have to be fast enough to purchase the phone when it goes on sale at 12PM today or wait for the next weekly sale.
