The IPO-Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, a <keyword id="20474756" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shapoorji-Pallonji" source="keywords">Shapoorji Pallonji</keyword> group firm, has announced a price band of Rs 440-463 per share for its issue worth Rs 5,430 crore. The issue, which is set to open on October 25, 2024, will continue till October 29, 2024. Notably, the <keyword id="23453516" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Afcons-IPO" source="keywords">Afcons IPO</keyword> will be a mix of a fresh issue worth Rs 1,250 crore and an OFS (offer for sale) worth Rs 4,180 crore. Investors can bid for a minimum of 1 lot, which consists of 32 shares, meaning investors will be required to invest at least Rs 14,816. Last week, in a pre-IPO placement, Afcons Infrastructure raised Rs 2,967 crore from the company’s management and various institutional investors, like GIC Singapore, Enam Holdings (Akash Bhanshali), Synergy Capital, 360 One, White Oak, and more. Afcons will reportedly use around Rs 80 crore from IPO proceeds to fund <keyword id="20018917" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="capital-expenditure" source="keywords">capital expenditure</keyword> and purchase construction equipment, another Rs 320 crore to support long-term working capital requirements, and Rs 600 crore for prepaying portions of certain outstanding loans. The company operates across five major infrastructure business verticals, namely marine and industrial, surface transport, urban infrastructure, hydro and underground, as well as oil and gas. As of September 30, 2024, the company boasted of an <keyword id="20162999" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="order-book" source="keywords">order book</keyword> worth over Rs 40,000 crore. Stock analyst Dilip Dawda recommends subscribing to the IPO. The company is the flagship infrastructure, engineering, and construction company of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group. It is a well-diversified <keyword id="21485219" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="infrastructure-company" source="keywords">infrastructure company</keyword>, having an average 30% export revenue. The company posted steady growth in its top and bottom lines for the reported periods. Based on FY25 annualized earnings and FY24 earnings, the issue appears fully priced. Investors may park funds for the medium to long term in this dividend-paying company," he continues. As of October 21, 2024, the company's <keyword id="19931032" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="GMP" source="keywords">GMP</keyword> (grey market premium) was trading at Rs 88, taking its estimated listing price to Rs 551. This means an expected listing gain of 19.01% per share. The company has reported a steady rise in its revenue from operations over the past 2 years, from Rs 1,10,189.66 million in FY22 to Rs 1,26,373.82 million in FY23 and Rs 1,32,674.95 for FY24. As of June 30th, 2024, the company's operational income stood at Rs 31,543.60 million. Correspondingly, there has also been a rise in its PAT (profit after taxes), from Rs 3,576.05 million in FY22 to Rs 4,497.38 million in FY24. The company's PAT was Rs915.86 as of June 30th, 2024. However, it must be noted that Afcons relies heavily on projects they contract through the government. As of June 30, 2024, projects awarded by the central or state government and government-owned enterprises made up around 69.80% of the Afcons order book. Multilateral projects, i.e., projects funded by the Indian government in other countries, constituted another 20.07%, while private projects contributed around 10.13% to its order book. Also, the company depends heavily on its top 10 customers, with the total order book value attributable to them as of June 30, 2024, standing at Rs 2,03,379.45 million, or around 64.06%.

Afcons Infra fixes IPO price at Rs 440-Rs 463 per share, issue to open on October 25

Shares of state-owned behemoth Life Insurance Corporation (<keyword id="19903588" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="LIC" source="keywords">LIC</keyword>) have outperformed rivals like <keyword id="20079495" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="HDFC-Life" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="HDFC Life" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="HDFC Life">HDFC Life</keyword> and <keyword id="21278696" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-Prudential-Life" source="keywords">ICICI Prudential Life</keyword>, as it placed bets on India's growth sectors, including infrastructure, while the private sector concentrated its bets on tech, consumer and consumer-related <keyword id="19910880" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BFSI" source="keywords">BFSI</keyword> companies. LIC's stock has gained nearly 79% from Rs 620 on June 18, 2023, to Rs 1,109.15 at the closing on Tuesday, according to stock exchange data. In contrast, HDFC Life gave a negative return with Tuesday's closing price of Rs 646.55 on the BSE as compared to Rs 666.55 a year back. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Co delivered a return of 12%, considering its stock price rise from Rs 582 on June 18, 2023, to Rs 654.10 on June 16, 2024. Over the past one year, <keyword id="19898108" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI" source="keywords">SBI</keyword> Life Insurance shares have risen from Rs 1,314 to Rs 1,621.20, delivering a return of 23%. Capital market analysts said <keyword id="19935977" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="insurance-companies" source="keywords">insurance companies</keyword> make money in two ways - charging premiums for policies and then investing the premiums into assets. It is the latter that generates the bigger delta in profits, thus impacting value creation and managing risks. Global majors, including Warren Buffet-owned Berkshire Hathaway, have been successful due to their ability to make superior investments. Most Indian insurance companies are yet to capitalise on the emergence of the country's <keyword id="19997284" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="infrastructure-sector" source="keywords">infrastructure sector</keyword>, analysts said. Indian insurance companies have concentrated investments in the BFSI, IT, and consumer sectors - all of which have been underperformers in the recent past. Only 8-10% of their investments are in the infrastructure sector. This is far less when compared to global standards. Large global insurance companies -- such as Allianz, Nippon Life Insurance, and Metlife, and other insurers like Berkshire Hathaway -- have much larger exposure ranging from 15 to 30% to the infrastructure sector, analysts noted. Over the past few years, global insurers have been increasingly considering infrastructure investments as 'core' investments as the stable and long-term cash flows of infrastructure assets naturally align with the liabilities of insurers. Additionally, infrastructure assets have defensive characteristics of high barriers to entry, strong pricing power, structural growth, and predictive cash flows, and listed infrastructure can provide investors with inflation-protected income and solid capital growth. <h2>Infra sector outperforming all</h2>For India, a strong government focus on the sector with large spending, supporting initiatives and encouraging policies, and improving governance has helped the infrastructure industry has come of age. This has helped the infra sector to outperform all other sectors, according to analysts. They said the high focus on retail loans, and the strategic reluctance to look at infrastructure for growth opportunities is proving detrimental for the shareholders of such companies. SBI, with its higher exposure to the infrastructure sector, has seen its stock gain 48% in the year (from Rs 592 to Rs 880.95 on Tuesday), while those of its private counterparts HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank have gained only in the range of (-)3%to 24%. Kotak and HDFC Banks with negligible exposure to the infrastructure sector are the worst performing, with their shares giving a negative return, stock exchange data showed. Kotak Mahindra Bank shares were at Rs 1,895 on June 18, 2023, and closed at Rs 1,805.20 on Tuesday. HDFC Bank closed at Rs 1,619.20 on BSE on Tuesday, down from Rs 1,679 a year back.

Exposure to India's infra sector helps LIC, SBI outshine peers

<ul><li>Estimates peg the current market size of structural pipes at ₹32,000-₹40,000 crore.</li><li>ERW pipes sector is expected to grow at 12-13% for FY24, followed by 8-9% for the next 4-5 years.</li><li>The companies in the sector gave good returns in the last one year, but still have juice left, say analysts. </li></ul>India’s infrastructure spending and construction are on a full swing. And, as a proxy play, the companies, which supply specialized pipes to builders, have been gaining in value. All the four listed companies that make structural pipes have given over 50% returns in the last one year. Structural pipes are also mostly used in construction and also other sectors like oil &amp; gas, water supply and agriculture. Within construction, steel tubes or Electrical Resistance Welding (ERW) pipes are gaining increased acceptance. Their usage helps bring down construction time and save carpet area. Since they increase the returns of builders, they’re becoming a popular choice for a variety of infrastructure projects. How big is the sector? The sector is also gaining from increased construction activity from public and private sectors alike. But the key trigger is rise in spending by the Indian government, whose capex grew at 27% CAGR between FY19-24. “Majority of the spending will be driven by road transport and highways, railways, and defence, which augurs well for ERW pipes demand, as almost all these segments need structural pipes,” says a report by PhillipCapital. Estimates peg the current market size of these pipes anywhere between ₹32,000-₹40,000 crore. “We expect ERW pipes to grow faster pace than the steel industry – at 12-13% for FY24, followed by 8-9% for the next 4-5 years, considering it is still in the process of replacing some traditional long products that were previously used in construction,” says PhillipCapital. And, there are more infrastructure building plans in the pipeline. Water-supply lines under <keyword id="7834202" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jal-jeevan-mission" source="Orion">Jal Jeevan Mission</keyword> are also expected to aid demand for these pipes. The government’s plans to add more airports, upgrade railway stations and metro construction should also provide more demand levers ahead. The sector also has fewer players who dominate the sector and each of them have a sizable market share. Analysts also believe that the stocks have juice ahead in spite of a good run-up, due to its growth levers. They are adding capacities, and also expanding their distribution footprint by establishing more stock keeping units. Added to that, their expansion plans are not leading to extensive debts by players – which is offering comfort to analysts. JTL raised funds through share warrants rather than debt to fund capacity expansion. “The company issued fully convertible warrants worth ₹3,840 crore to non-promoters in March 2023 to fund its 400,000 tonnes capacity addition at Raipur and Mangaon. This has led to a considerable reduction in its debt levels, improving its net debt to equity ratio,” said a report by Nuvama. <keyword id="429932" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="apl-apollo" source="Orion">APL Apollo</keyword>’s bet debt stood at ₹500 crore at the end of FY23. While it needs ₹600 crore more for capacity expansion, it also reduced its net working capital days to merely 7-8 days, affecting its borrowings in a benign manner. <keyword id="8105348" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hi-tech-pipes" source="Orion">Hi-Tech Pipes</keyword> is also expanding and adding more value-added products to its portfolio, along with expansion and that’s another trigger ahead. “It trades at an attractive valuation and is one of the cheapest stocks available in this space. We believe the stock price has the potential to double, aided by earnings growth and some re-rating after it achieves the 500Kt volume target,” said PhillipCapital. With growth levers from private as well as government sector spending, the sector is poised for better days ahead. However, any change in the government’s capex plans in the run-up to elections may play spoilsport for the sector’s assumed growth rate.

IndusInd Bank, UltraTech Cement, State Bank of India, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, Bajaj Finance and HDFC Bank were the other major gainers. "Indian stock markets enjoyed a strong day with key indices like the Sensex and Nifty rising significantly, fueled by positive global cues, strong buying in banking and financial service stocks. Stock market volatility is expected to rise in the near future as volatility index India VIX surged by 12%. From a technical standpoint, the index has crossed the hurdle of 22,630 and managed to close above it, suggesting strength. Consequently, the Nifty could attempt to break its all-time high of 22,776, and if the index sustains above it, the rally could stretch towards 23,000-23,100 levels. For the short term, 22,500 and 22,300 will act as strong support levels whereas 22780 and 23000 will act as barrier for the index," said Neeraj Sharma, AVP Technical and Derivatives Research, Asit C. Mehta Investment Interrmediates HCL Technologies tanked nearly 6 per cent after the company reported a flat year-on-year growth in net profit in the March quarter at Rs 3,986 crore. Wall Street ended with gains on Friday. "The Indian benchmark indexes rebounded, aided by an upbeat in US tech quarter earnings and a drop in US 10-year yield. Domestically, the Bank Nifty outperformed, driven by its strong performance in the fourth quarter. Easing Middle East tensions, coupled with stable earnings, are expected to maintain positive market sentiment," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services. Global oil benchmark Brent crude declined 0.51 per cent to USD 89.04 a barrel. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 3,408.88 crore on Friday, according to exchange data. If the Fed commentary after the February 1 meeting is dovish and data shows inflation declining in the US, markets will rally. Stock market investors expect balanced budget, focus on job creation, infra spending

In the wake of weaker monsoon and pressure seen in Rabi sowing season, focus will be on providing support to rural growth. If the rural economy gets a boost, it will be a positive for FMCG majors like HUL, Marico, Dabur whose volume growth has been sluggish for the last few quarters. "Normally, we do not expect any path breaking policy announcements in an interim budget. But there is always scope for unconventional moves. In my view, the Centre should try to adhere to the fiscal deficit target as it gives a clear signal to global investors,” Irani added.

This came following a fund collection of Rs 2,596 crore through listed Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) in the entire 2022-23, although the amount mopped up through listed <keyword id="6354553" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="real-estate" source="Orion">Real Estate</keyword> Investment Trusts (REITs) was nil, data with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (<keyword id="35210" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sebi" source="Orion">Sebi</keyword>) showed. Going forward, experts believe that trends seen in REITs and InvITs will continue in the second half of the year too. "The fresh savings will continue similarly as has happened in the last six months, and the investments will continue to be towards InvITs as both the central government and the state governments continue to focus more on infrastructure development," Himanshu Kohli, Co-founder of Client Associates, said. Hence, the trends you have seen in REITs and InvITs will continue in the second half of the year, he said. According to Sebi data, Rs 18,658 crore was collected through these emerging investment vehicles in the April-September period of 2023-24. This comprises Rs 12,753 crore through InvITs and the remaining Rs 5,905 crore via REITs. Karan Shetty, Co-Founder of Claravest, a fractional ownership real estate investment platform, attributed several factors for the massive jump in fundraising through the route to favourable government policies, huge demand for investment in real estate, and the government's focus on urbanisation and infrastructure development. Additionally, other reasons for the surge in fund collection could be regular income provided by REITs and InvITs as these trusts are required to distribute 90 per cent of their income to investors regularly, gives diversification benefit, provides liquidity benefits as the units trade on stock exchanges and increased awareness and investor interest about the instruments, Feroze Azeez, Deputy CEO, Anand Rathi Wealth, said. Moreover, the government and the capital markets regulator Sebi have played an active role in popularising and promoting REITs and InvITs in India. Of the Rs 18,658 crore investment, Rs 12,753 crore was invested through InvITs, and the remaining Rs 5,905 crore via REITs. InvITs have been more popular than REITs in terms of fundraising, due to several factors as InvITs can invest in a wider range of assets than REITs, including roads, highways, bridges, railways, power transmission lines, renewable energy projects, and gas pipelines. Besides, InvITs are exempt from paying income tax at the trust level, which makes them more attractive to investors, Azeez said. "Further, the infrastructure sector in India is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, which is likely to drive the growth of InvITs," he added. REITs and InvITs are relatively new investment instruments in the Indian context but are extremely popular in global markets for passive income investors due to attractive yields and capital appreciation. While a REIT comprises a portfolio of commercial real assets, a major portion of which is already leased out, InvITs consist of a portfolio of infrastructure assets such as highways, and power transmission assets. InvITs and REITs help infrastructure developers monetise their assets and redeploy the capital into upcoming projects. However, these instruments are comparatively new to Indian investors with only four registered REITs and 22 registered InvITs, as of August 8, 2023, Sebi data showed. The value of mutual fund exposure to REITs and InvITs stood at Rs 8,416 crore as of September 30, 2023.

The next most common stock across Diwali picks is DLF. Even as Kolte Patil, Lodha and Godrej Properties were also picked as the real estate sector theme remained strong, this mega developer made it to three brokerages’ best picks. “DLF's strong leadership in the Delhi-NCR region, a vast residential project pipeline, a significant rental portfolio, ample land reserves with low carrying costs, and favourable market conditions create a promising environment for substantial growth,” said Anand Rathi. Banks were also part of each brokerage’s picks with Union Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Bank of India, Axis Bank making the cut. Most of them back defence and railway stocks as well like HAL, Titagarh Wagons and MTAR Technologies – all which have given good returns this year. All thanks to favourable demand conditions for its core wires and cables business due government’s infrastructure push as well as construction activity in the real estate sector. “We expect Polycab to register 19% revenue compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) over FY23-26. Volume growth prospects and margin profile for cables &amp; wires remains strong led by rising industrial and infra capex,” said a report by Centrum. Its high-margin B2C business of fans and lighting, however, has been growing slower, at around 8% in Q4FY24 as compared to its core business. “Management believes the brand repositioning will bolster sales traction, deepen the company’s pan-India presence and particularly help the fast-moving electrical goods (FMEG) business. A proxy play on India capex Jefferies also believes that Polycab is a good play on India capex. As India’s capex increases, its business will grow. That’s because the leader in the Indian C&amp;W industry, with a 22-24% share in the organized market. “On the private side, average industry capacity utilization stands at 70-75%, which could entail fresh capacity adds across many sectors. On the public side, 2023 budgetary allocation has been directionally positive for capex and infra,” says Jefferies. More data like heightened industrial activity, and India’s GDP projected to grow at 7% in FY24, will all add to its appeal.

Gets 81% of its revenue from top 10 clients Udayshivakumar Infra is in the business of constructing roads, bridges and irrigation projects in Karnataka, including for government departments. It aims to gradually expand its business operations in other Indian states. The company has 46 work orders in hand that aggregate to an order book of ₹1,290 crore as on December 31, 2022. It is entirely owned by chairman and managing director Udayshivakumar who owns 98.97% stake in the company while 1% stake is held by his wife Amrutha. Udayshivakumar Infra’s business is concentrated in the state of Karnataka – it generates its entire revenue from projects in the state. Moreover, it receives 81% of its revenue from the top ten customers. “We derive a significant portion of our revenues from a limited number of clients. The loss of any significant clients may have an adverse effect on our business, financial condition, results of operations, and prospects.” The company’s aggregate outstanding indebtedness was at ₹49.88 crore as on December 31, 2022.
