Last April, <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> unveiled its new artificial intelligence (AI) platform Mana amid much fanfare. It enabled automation of repetitive tasks and helped pick insights from data. However, soon after the unveiling, German software behemoth <keyword id="6358384" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SAP">SAP</keyword> accused that Mana sounded similar to SAP's inmemory database platform called Hana, describing it as a trademark violation and alleging confusion for key consumers. Hana, other than being a database platform, also provides real-time analytics. SAP had given Infosys time till April 2017 to tackle the issue, which led to Mana being renamed to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/tech/infosys-launches-ai-platform-nia/articleshow/58398195.cms">Nia</a> last month, which Infosys presenting as a new upgraded system. "SAP and Infosys are pleased that the companies have been able to mutually resolve all concerns regarding the use of their respective trademarks. Following the announcement of <keyword id="3492416" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="infosys-mana">Infosys Mana</keyword>, SAP raised concerns about the similarity of the name to <keyword id="1025474" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="SAP-Hana">SAP Hana</keyword>. In the interest of the larger partnership with SAP , Infosys has agreed to discontinue the use of Mana over a period of time. SAP and Infosys believe this will help strengthen the organisations' strategic partnership, while maintaining focus on delivering business value for their clients," said a statement from both companies. Infosys has also poached top executives such as former Google executive Sudhir Jha to head product management. 
 
"We've already hired a few guys from the Valley, we are hiring a few guys from here. (Mana) requires a different level of skill. Mana is fundamentally the core platform of transformation for us -it encapsulates everything that we stand for and everything that we're betting on," Samson David, who has been tasked to head the Mana team, told ET.

The project Mana, which was launched in April, will concentrate on automating repetitive and commoditised software maintenance tasks. 
 
Infosys believes Mana can help free up several thousands of engineers from repetitive, commoditized software projects all across. 
 
"At CIS -for fixed price projects, we have been able to reduce 20-25% headcount across shifts. And that will only gdeeper and deeper," David told ET. 
 
"There are two killer activities in the software industry that take up the most amount of time -one is to find out what the problem is. The whole thing of impact analysis -what all has to be touched. That takes up a lot of time. In maintenance, you have to scan the entire thing to figure out the impact. Actual change doesn't take much time. Second is when I make the change, how do I ensure nothing is broken? Testing takes a lot of time. Mana allows you to completely squish this," David told ET.

Infosys is making aggressive push into AI platform Mana to generate billions of dollars

 Amid the re-jig, another key man of <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> Anup Uppadhayay, who was handling large deals, also called it quits. 
 
Uppadhyay’s exit comes after the recent exit of Samson David. Since Sikka has taken over the reins of the company in 2014, Infosys has seen its top five executives quit.

Now, Narasimha Rao Manepalli will lead Mana.

Disappointed Vishal Sikka re-jigs top order after dismal Q1; another key executive quits

<keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> is creating an army of supercoders for its artificial intelligence platform MANA, and is hiring top talent from <keyword id="6357722" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="silicon-valley">Silicon Valley</keyword>. 
 
India’s second largest software exporter is betting big on artificial intelligence and futuristic products. 
 
Infosys' head of architecture and technology Navin Budhiraja, in an interview to ET, said that the IT company has doubled the size of its special supercoders team under the ‘Expert Track programme’. 
 
"What I see going forward is MANA becoming the centerpiece of all of the automation work that we do. We want to bring AI to the enterprise to solve a set of issues that we see. MANA is a culmination of the work we're doing around the Big Data platform, around the Automation platform, around the knowledge platform," Budhiraja told ET. 
 
Infosys is getting more executives on board who have specialised in futuristic areas and who work on IAP, IIP, IKP platforms. 
 
"The Expert Services team will be run by Samson David who also runs our infrastructure business. He has been instrumental around running a lot of implementations around IAP. He will have the expert services team underneath him which will primarily based out of India," Budhiraja told ET. 
 
When asked about short supply of talent in these skills, Budhiraja said hiring was not easy. 
 
"We've hired a couple of people already, their focus is around AI and natural language processing. This is a hard skill to find. We are hiring key folks both in the US and India. We are also looking for talent in areas such as next-gen apps, apps that are self-healing, etc -that's the kind of talent we are looking for. Also for product management and product marketing,” he said.

Samson David, who was handling <a href="http://www1.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=infosys&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys’</a> <keyword id="107950" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="artificial-intelligence">Artificial Intelligence</keyword> (AI) platform <a href="http://www1.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=mana&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mana</a>, has resigned, becoming the fifth person to put in papers after chief <a href="http://www1.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=vishal+sikka&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vishal Sikka</a> took over the company’s reins. 
 David’s exit will come as a jolt to <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, which plans to turn around fortunes on AI and automation. 
 
David was appointed as Infosys’ IT infra chief by Sikka. In the past two years, many top executives including former CFO Rajiv Bansal, current L&amp;T Infotech CEO Sanjay Jalona, former EdgeVerve head Michael Reh have called it quits. 
 
David is likely to join <a href="http://www1.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Hewlett+Packard+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Hewlett Packard Enterprise</a> (HPE) as the head of its enterprise services delivery business and report to HPE's global enterprise and outsourcing chief Mike Nefkens. 
 
David has worked with Voltas Ltd and was associated with Infosys since 1992 which he had joined as a trainee software engineer.

Infosys’ AI plans just suffered a setback due to exit of a key person

<keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> CEO <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword> has claimed that Zero Distance innovation programme, which aims to deliver innovations and improvements, worked in the favour of the company. 
 
Sikka said through the programme, customer satisfaction went up to a ten-year high. 
 
Under the programme, Infosys started rolling out incentives for managers who showed innovation in their respective projects. 
 
"It was a truly awesome and proud moment to get the early results of our customer satisfaction survey for 2016 from Nabarun, with scores at their highest in 10 years!" Sikka said. 
 
Sikka said client-feedback scores went up by 12 points from last year and that satisfaction levels at the CxO level alone had gone up seven points. 
 "We are seeing clients recognise the importance of <keyword id="24971" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="mana">Mana</keyword>, <keyword id="3831790" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="zero-distance-and-design-thinking">Zero Distance and Design Thinking</keyword>. This is a reflection of each of us and all of us," he said. 
 
"Our strategy is working. So let's take this moment to celebrate our achievement and the recognition we have received from those we have helped and continue to help. This is how Infosys has increased its customer satisfaction, which is at 10-year high

A few days back, Indian IT giant <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-relaunches-ESOP/articleshow/53225972.cms">Infosys </a>shocked the stock markets when it posted a weak performance in the first quarter of this fiscal. 
 
Even though the last few quarters saw the company impressing one and all with its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-posts-13-4-rise-in-net-profit-misses-estimates/articleshow/53222425.cms">performance</a>, everyone was shocked when it lowered its full-year guidance from April’s 11.5-13.5% April to 10.5-12%. 
 As reported earlier, CEO <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword> has said that this poor performance was the result of an <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-CEO-says-low-performance-in-Q1-a-result-of-execution-failure/articleshow/53265955.cms">execution failure</a>, and he has started to take <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Disappointed-Vishal-Sikka-re-jigs-top-order-after-dismal-Q1-another-key-executive-quits/articleshow/53278154.cms">remedial actions</a> for the same.

Friends, 
 
The first quarter of our new financial year was a revelation in many ways. I view the reaction by the markets and the media as a clear sign of the high standards our company is held to, the expectations we carry, even though everyone understands that a 90 day cycle means little on a long journey. I am disappointed. Disappointed that our revenue performance was not what we could have delivered, but even more so, that this overshadowed the many strong strides we made on executing our strategy. 
 
Our revenue growth of 2.2% to $2501M, included a shortfall in consulting revenue, some declines in package implementations, and small declines in our India business and Finacle. But at the same time, we made great progress in both, renewing our core, AND in the new areas of our business, as well as in our culture of enabling this continual renew-new improvement. Our core business, delivery, under Ravi's great leadership, grew by 3.4%, improved its utilization, lowered its dependence on subcontractors, delivered ever higher benefits from automation, and derived tangible gains from both Zero Distance and Zero Bench. 
 
Equally importantly, if not even more so, our New business grew extremely well, under Sandeep's stewardship. Gains in our newly introduced Mana, as well as in Skava, EDGE, design services and other new areas, accounted for more than a fifth of our growth! On Mohit's watch, large deal wins crossed the $800M mark in TCV, our top 5, top 10 and top 25 clients, all grew faster than the company, the number of our $100M clients grew by 3 to 17, and we added 95 new clients. 
 
Ranga and his amazing finance team, helped improve the overall health of our company's profitability and financials. We are close to 100k Infoscions having been exposed to design-thinking, the number of ZD ideas crossed 11k, and more than 5k of these have been discussed with clients, and the first ones already monetized, thanks to a simple new process Ravi and Ranga have enabled, and ZB now has more than 20k jobs, and, in a year since its launch, this initiative got us to the point that more than 99.5% of the bench colleagues have been engaged, thus helping them deliver value and break the cycle of being on the bench not helping them gthe experience they need to get off the bench. And there were many others. 
 
Reflecting on this on my trip back home, mainly I learnt this: those areas which receive "the flame of our attention" in Jiddu Krishnamurti's words, show progress. And when running an operation as large and complex as ours, we must attend to each cog, every piece of our spectrum, to prevent a few negatives from overshadowing the many great positives. We cannot take our eyes off any important aspect of our business, each area of our large and diverse portfolio of services, products and platforms. In Q2, and beyond, we must accelerate our work in all the key strategic aspects of our work, AND we must address the weaknesses of Q1. 
 
Our stock incentive rewards program, back after 13 years, is a great celebration of our people, our potential, and our commitment to recognize performance, and to have us participate in our collective work, and its outcomes, for Infosys is no more and no less than us, each one of us, and all of us. To help us lead from the front, Pravin and I are making some changes to the team. In Consulting, we had already announced that Rajesh Murthy would take over going forward. 
 
Reporting to Rajesh, Michael Pesch will continue to run Europe, LATAM and APAC, and Kenneth Toombs, who recently joined Infosys, will run North America and India. Sanjay Purohit will join Pravin to work on strategic initiatives in bringing Design Thinking to our clients at scale. Ritika Suri will take over our large deals work, including SGS, from Anup Uppadhayay. Anup has decided to leave Infosys, and I would like to thank him for his tremendous loyalty and service to Infosys over the last 23 years. I have been privileged to work with Anup since I started my journey almost two years ago, and we wish him all the best. 
 
Ritika brings a strong background in sales, particularly in driving large deals for products and platforms, and this is exactly the kind of experience we need to help transform our large client engagements with a focus in our renew-new strategy. M&amp;A will move to Deepak Padaki, while Ritika continues to lead the Innovation Fund and our work with startups. She will continue to report to Ranga and Mohit will continue to sponsor our large deals work. In CIS, we will focus on renewing the existing business and bringing Mana to every aspect of it. 
 
This will be led by Narry (Narsimha Rao) who will take over from Samson David. Narry has been with Infosys for 15 years, and has been running IVS for the last 1.3 years with great success and excellence. Narry and the entire delivery team under Ravi's leadership, will work closely with Navin Budhiraja on the Mana platform. I am very happy that Sudhir Jha has joined us from Google to help with product management and product marketing for Mana and for bringing a product discipline to all our work. 
 
We thank Sam for his great work in growing the infrastructure business over the last few quarters, and his great contributions to Infosys for more than two decades, and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. Our success will be the result of our endeavor. The work of our people. The amazing individuals I meet every single day. I learnt that a million folks wanted to join the Infosys family last year! Our people focus will continue, and will be at the core of all that we do.

When Krishnamurti spoke of the flame of attention, he spoke of a compassionate attention, to what matters, to the long-term, purposeful, vision, to a fun, rewarding journey along the way. Over the weekend, a friend of mine wrote to me, asking me to "stay healthy, stay in the moment, focused on your actions, even as you work hard to let your achievements outshine your aspirations...".

Here’s the letter Vishal Sikka wrote to Infosys employees after disappointing Q1 performance

There have been reports of tension between Infosys founders and its management. He asked them to keep a "sharp focus" on executing the company's strategy, which is bolstered by its services like Mana, Skava, Edge, Panaya and cloud services. "...let us keep a sharp focus on the execution of our strategy. Let us not get distracted by media speculation that is designed to stir up gossip or rehash old rumours or speculate on the unknowns, around visas, or anything that questions our commitment to governance, integrity and values, in order to generate headlines and create, in the words of The Wire, Eardrum Buzz," <keyword id="281963" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sikka">Sikka</keyword> said in an internal mail. "There is no second ¬guessing our deep commitment, passion and dedication to transforming this great company, even within the unprecedented new context that we find ourselves in. We are doing this. We will do this. Together!," he said. 
 
There have been reports of simmering differences between the CEO and its founders over issues like pay hike given to Sikka and severance package of two former senior executives. Infosys has, however, defended itself saying all decisions were made "in the overall interest of the company" and that it has made "full disclosures" on all developments. Infosys founders, along with their family members, owned 12.75 per cent in the company at the end of December 2016, as per the data available on the BSE. The buzz grew louder when Infosys' former chief financial officer TV Mohandas Pai said the board should give a detailed answer and not take shelter under "bland" statement that decisions were taken in the interest of the company. Sikka said Infosys' revenue growth, which previously under performed the industry growth by 50 per cent about 2 years ago, is now in line with overall industry growth. "...we have held margins through operational efficiency improvements and automation benefits. Our cash flow generation continues to be amongst the strongest in the industry. And in a key sign of a thriving enterprise, our new software and services have seen tremendous growth," he told employees. 
 
Infosys' strategy is focussed on delivering higher value services and bringing the latest advances in technology into work. "...we create unprecedented value for clients, employees, shareholders, and the larger global ecosystem in which we operate ¬¬ including delivering value as one of the largest and most respected companies in India," he said.

Vishal Sikka to employees: Don't be distracted by gossip about Infosys

IT major Infosys has instrumented a new plan to beat Trump's propaganda, according to news agency PTI. Infosys has been in favour of a healthy mix of local and global personnel even though hiring locals in overseas markets often pushes up operational costs for IT outsourcing companies. With the US mulling over various measures to make visa norms stricter under the <keyword id="6354484" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Donald-Trump">Donald Trump</keyword> administration, Indian IT firms have been contemplating tweaking their business models and accommodating more locals. "We are closely monitoring the overall situation with respect to visa... in the last 24 months, we have focused on increasing our presence in the US with a lot more local hiring," Infosys Chief Operating Officer U B Pravin Rao told investors on a recent conference call. He added that at this stage, Infosys has not seen any "undue things" that will impact the way it does business. "In this year, we will continue that focus. We will accelerate it. We will also start looking at developments and training centres in the US as well," he said. Rao, however, did not talk about the investments Infosys will make on the expansion. The North American markaccounted for over 60 per cent of Infosys' USD 10.2 billion revenue in the 2016-17 fiscal. During his election campaign, US President Trump had promised stricter immigration laws and protection of local jobs. Besides, a legislation (Lofgren Bill) in the US was introduced that proposed doubling of the minimum wages of H-1B visa holders to USD 130,000. Most recently, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) had come out with a policy memorandum that potentially makes it difficult for Indian technology professionals to work in the US at entry-level positions. Any change in visa norms can affect the movement of labour as well as spike operational costs for the IT players. Indian firms like <keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword>, Infosys and <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> that are dependent on visas are now focusing on bringing on board more locals to comply with the norms. Once considered an industry bellwether, Infosys has had its share of challenges over the past few years. Apart from competition from rivals like TCS and <keyword id="28721" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cognizant">Cognizant</keyword>, it is also facing a public spat between founders and the Board over allegations of corporate governance lapses. Under CEO Vishal Sikka, the company has been trying to turn things around. The former <keyword id="6358384" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SAP">SAP</keyword> executive has set up an ambitious target for Infosys reaching USD 20 billion revenue by 2020 with a strong focus on new technologies like automation and artificial intelligence. While Sikka himself has admitted that the goal is "aspirational", the company has continued to invest in start-ups working on these new-generation technologies.
