Infosys CEO Salil Parekh joins USISPF Board

IT services company <keyword id="6354512" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="infosys" source="Orion">Infosys</keyword> on Thursday announced a three-year partnership with <keyword id="24244" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rafael-nadal" source="Orion">Rafael Nadal</keyword>, onboarding the global tennis star as ambassador for the brand and Infosys' Digital Innovation. To mark Nadal's first-ever collaboration with a digital services company, Infosys and Nadal's coaching team are developing an AI-powered match analysis tool, the Bengaluru-headquartered company said in a release. This personalised tool will be available in real time to Nadal's coaching team to simultaneously track insights from his live matches, when he is back on tour, along with historical data from his earlier matches. India’s top brands have borne the brunt of the global economic downturn in 2023. The combined value of Kantar BrandZ’s top-75 Indian brands shed 4% of their value to $379 billion in 2023. Yet, they have fared better than their global counterparts, as its global list has shed 20% of its value. Most of this loss in brand value was seen in Indian tech brands whose value shrunk by 14%. The brands have a major presence in international markets, and have been impacted by global pressures, recession threats and geopolitical instability, says Kantar. “If you exclude tech, the combined brand value is quite stable,” said Soumya Mohanty, managing director and chief client officer, South Asia, Insights Division of Kantar. TCS on the top, as usual The spot of India’s most valuable brand, however, is retained by tech giant TCS. It has shed 6% of its value but has fared better than tech as a sector. “TCS has a strong corporate reputation which makes it more likely to retain clients and business. It can also help enable customer retention which is also a factor that adds to brand value,” Deepender Rana, executive managing director of South Asia Insights Division at Kantar told Business Insider India. Infosys’ brand value dropped by 17%, while HCL Tech’s brand value rose by 3%. Both these brands made it to the top 10. Wipro’s brand value dropped by a sharp 42%. The rest of the list is dominated by banks, telecom companies with only one consumer company, Asian Paints in the top 10. risers of the year. TVS, valued at $1.9 billion, occupies the 51st rank. The company has gained 59% in value and leapt 24 places thanks to a number of successful product launches and a 10-year partnership with BMW that gives it leverage in markets such as Europe, the US and Canada. Mahindra is valued at $2.01 billion and occupies the 47th rank. Mahindra, which grew its value by 48%, made itself incredibly meaningful in consumers’ eyes, and also significantly boosted its salience. The sector saw the second highest category growth of 19%, after tobacco. Royal Enfield’s value also swelled, thanks to Indians’ preference for premium products. A lot of Indian auto brands, like Tata Motors, also entered EV markets and are able to meet consumer needs better, observes Rana. “Auto companies’ value declined during Covid and made a comeback after they dealt with supply chain issues and dealt with bottlenecks,” said Mohanty. India’s largest auto company Maruti Suzuki, however, shed 5% of its brand value, while Bajaj Auto’s brand value went up by 9%. The value in finance Financial services brands have grown their brand value by 6% with 16 brands and contributing to the biggest chunk of the total brand value. Their growth is attributed to growth in digital banking and Axis Bank whose value swelled 28% and now ranks at 17. ICICI Bank which ranks at no 6 also has seen its brand value swell by 18%. Two of this year’s new entrants also belong to the fintech sector — PhonePe and Cred. This is in spite of the fact that tech as a sector saw its value go down during the year. PhonePe has made its debut on the list at No.21 with a value of $4.4 billion. It has quickly become India’s leading digital payment app by investing heavily in the strength of its infrastructure, building connections with partner banks, and developing a huge network of merchant acceptance points, said Kantar. Meanwhile, Cred has entered at no 48 with a brand value of $2 billion. “Growth of credit and other digital trends are adding to the value of fintechs. There is a need for these services and brands are doing a good job of providing them,” Mohanty tells Business Insider India. PayTM, Zomato, Swiggy, Flipkart, Naukri, Oyo and Nykaa have shed value; while Byju’s hasn’t been included in the list this year. FMCG as a sector has seen its brand value remain stable during the year.

TCS retains No 1 spot as India’s top brand but tech sector takes a hit

New Delhi, India's IT services heavyweights delivered between 14-20 per cent on-year growth in topline for December quarter, as they raised guard on global uncertainties and choppy verticals, but remained hopeful that costs as well as business considerations will drive tech demand. The tech earnings season began with large IT companies -- Tata Consultancy Services (<keyword id="6357150" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tcs" source="Orion">TCS</keyword>), <keyword id="6354512" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="infosys" source="Orion">Infosys</keyword>, <keyword id="10862" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="wipro" source="Orion">Wipro</keyword> and HCL Technologies -- declaring their Q3 report card this week, amid analysts' gloomy prognosis around slowdown in advanced economies and fear of geopolitical flare-ups. The industry leaders said they are keeping a close watch on the global economy and cues. Overall, the revenue growth band of the top-tier IT players was pegged at between 14-20 per cent for Q3FY23, compared to the year ago period. Seen sequentially, the topline growth for the large IT pack ranged between three per cent and eight per cent versus previous September quarter. Meanwhile, December-quarter net profit of the top IT deck rose between three per cent (Wipro) to 19 per cent (<keyword id="141968" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="hcl-tech" source="Orion">HCL Tech</keyword>) year-on-year; and about 4 per cent (TCS) to 17 per cent (HCL Tech) when computed on a sequential basis. TCS' overall revenue rose 19.1 per cent to Rs 58,229 crore for the reporting quarter. The chief executive and managing director of India's largest IT services company <keyword id="1422411" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rajesh-gopinathan" source="Orion">Rajesh Gopinathan</keyword> said the firm is more confident about the North American and British operations, which account for two-thirds of its revenues, but there are short-term uncertainties, and it is Europe, which needs closer monitoring as geopolitical tensions restrict clients from making IT spends. TCS management talked of "slow" decision making in Europe, and said it is "fairly constructive" when it comes to markets like the US, although it is keeping a close watch on how things play out over next couple of quarters. The conversations with customers are much more balanced ones, "where they are equally positive as well as cautious" yielding opportunities of "a mix of both cost and transformation deals". Chief operating officer N <keyword id="1564843" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ganapathy-subramaniam" source="Orion">Ganapathy Subramaniam</keyword> said the deal momentum and pipeline are looking good, and the overall situation on technology spending seems to be intact even in this environment. Infosys posted a 20.2 per cent year-on-year increase in consolidated revenue for December quarter at Rs 38,318 crore, and surprised many by hiking full year revenue guidance to 16-16.5 per cent. Infosys' consolidated net profit rose to Rs 6,586 crore during October-December 2022 as against Rs 5,809 crore a year back, translating into 13.4 per cent increase. Sequentially, the net profit was 9.4 per cent higher than September quarter. The company raised its annual sales forecast on a strong deal pipeline, but in the same breath, it warned of "constraints" in certain verticals amid slowing global economy. Infosys called out mortgage, investment banking, telecom and hi-tech, saying these segments were "more impacted, leading to delays in decision making and uncertainty in spending." The company was, however, quick to add that sectors like energy, utilities and manufacturing continue to see traction. Moreover, the concerns are more pronounced in Europe than the US, the Bengaluru-based IT bellwether said. "We see in the European markets, more concerns on what's going on with the economy... and the US market is also there, but relatively less so in the US with respect to Europe. We will see how this plays out," Infosys CEO <keyword id="328377" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="salil-parekh" source="Orion">Salil Parekh</keyword> said during the Q3 results conference. Smaller rival Wipro has talked of potential slowdown in retail sector in its earnings' roundup. The management's talking points also touched upon "bit of a lag for conversion of bookings" and "certain level of volatility from customers in particular sectors regarding discretionary spendings." Wipro Ltd on Friday reported a better-than-expected 2.8 per cent rise in consolidated net profit for the December 2022 quarter to Rs 3,053 crore and exuded optimism about "strong" bookings for the fourth quarter despite global headwinds. The company's Q4 guidance, however, came below analysts' expectations. Wipro said its IT services revenue is expected to grow in the range of -0.6 per cent to 1 per cent sequentially in constant currency in the quarter ending March 2023. Wipro expects revenue from the IT services business for the full year to be in the range of 11.5-12 per cent in constant currency terms. The revenues of Wipro stood at Rs 23,229 crore in Q3FY23, 14.3 per cent higher than the same period previous year. Noida-headquartered HCL Tech posted a 19 per cent increase in the consolidated net income to Rs 4,096 crore for just-ended third quarter. Its consolidated revenue grew by 19.56 per cent to Rs 26,700 crore during the reported quarter, from Rs 22,331 crore in the December 2021 quarter. HCL Tech narrowed current fiscal growth guidance in the range of 13.5-14 per cent for the overall revenue in constant currency terms and margin to 18-18.5 per cent. "Looking ahead, we believe there is a near term impact to a few industries, specifically technology industry clients, as they optimise while they will end up as great growth opportunities in medium term with the right propositions," C Vijayakumar, CEO of HCL Tech, said. He added: "Looking ahead we remain positive of our medium term growth, a confidence generated by our good booking and pipeline across every segment." IT biggies post 14-20% topline growth in Q3 as caution, optimism marks mixed earnings' commentary

Infosys, which is the second largest information technology firm by market capitalisation, reported a 7% on quarter rise in consolidated net profit to ₹5,809 crore in October-December quarter. Revenue for the firm stood at ₹31,867 crore for the quarter. The IT firm continues to struggle with the highest number of employees leaving the organisation as its attrition rate stood at 25.5% with a total headcount of 2.92 lakh employees as of December 31, 2021. Rise in attrition leads to higher employee cost and narrower margins. This has been a problem for all technology companies in India in recent months. For Infosys, the margin shrunk by 190 basis points between October and December 2021 compared to the preceding three months. 100 basis points make one percent. “We continue to prioritize investments in talent acquisition and development and have further increased our global graduate hiring program to over 55,000 for FY22 to support our growth ambitions”, said Nilanjan Roy, chief financial officer at Infosys. Infosys raises full year guidance after the best revenue growth in at least eight quarters

Tech and banking brands accounted for over half of the total value. Six B2B tech brands and 11 consumer tech brands contributed 35% to the total value. Salience– the ability of brands to spring quickly to mind when a consumer has a need was a common feature in India’s Top 10 brands. Tech brands and banks account for half the brand value The list of 75 brands across 23 categories bounced back from the pandemic lows to increase their brand value by a massive 35% CAGR since 2020. India’s top 75 brands are worth a combined $393 billion, equivalent to 11% of India’s GDP. “India’s leading brands have grown at an exceptional rate, despite global economic headwinds, putting the disruption from Covid-19 behind them. Brand owners will need to work harder to identify and build on what makes them worth paying for and ensure ROI on their marketing expenditure to avoid a margin squeeze, ” <keyword id="10859748" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="deepender-rana" source="Orion">Deepender Rana</keyword>, executive MD - South Asia, Insights Division, Kantar said. Between August 2014 and June 2022, the equity index Sensex gained 63.8%, while the brand value of these companies rose 81.8%, claimed Kantar. As many as 11 consumer tech brands made it to the list and also contributed to 11% of the total brand value. The four most valuable brands in the consumer category were Flipkart (No. 12; $8.9 billion), Byju’s (No. 19; $5.5 billion), Swiggy (No. 20; $4.8 billion) and Nykaa (No. 25; $3.7billion). Airtel edges out Jio to lead in telecom Among telecom providers, Airtel stood at number 4 and Jio was placed at number 10. Key newcomers included Vi, ranked number 15 post the merger between Vodafone and Idea. Byju’s stood at number 19, becoming India’s most valuable education brand. As compared to the rest of the world, Indians are more willing to choose environment conscious brands due to ongoing climate change. Overall, 65% of Indians feel anxious about climate change, and 64% believe businesses must play their part, reported Kantar. The highest-ranking brands in the Top 75 are clear on purpose and have a relevant sustainability agenda. Platforms like <keyword id="830092" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="zomato" source="Orion">Zomato</keyword>, ranked 30th, uses climate conscious deliveries by reducing and offsetting carbon emissions. Swiggy and Flipkart also help smaller local brands to connect with consumers via its platform. “Purposeful and sustainable brands are being rewarded. Indian consumers look further than the brand attributes that affect them personally – they want brands to improve people’s lives and have a positive impact on wider society,” Soumya Mohanty, managing director -insights division, Kantar said. TCS is India's most valuable brand worth $45.5 billion: Kantar

<keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, the Indian multinational corporation dealing in software, IT and business consulting, is thinking of adding at least two new members to its eight-member board in the coming six months. Infosys has always maintained a lean-board strategy, with not more than two executive directors, so as to ensure faster decision-making. 
 
After the exit of former ICICI Bank chairman KV Kamath and Carol M Browner, the company is eager to fill the vacant posts. Candidates experienced in financial services, government regulations and technology are the need of the hour for India's second largest software exporter. 
 In the meantime, <keyword id="369460" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jeffrey-Sean-Lehman">Jeffrey Sean Lehman</keyword>, who is a veteran of the <keyword id="675648" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys-Board">Infosys board</keyword> and serves as the vice chancellor of NYU Shanghai, has got an extension for at least another year. Lehman’s term was to expire in 2016.

The company's net profit increased 2.2% sequentially to ₹1,369 crore in October to December as compared to expectation of ₹1,454 crore consensus estimate of analysts tracked by <a href="https://www.bloombergquint.com/business/tech-mahindra-q3-results-profit-rises-22-but-misses-estimates-attrition-inches-up">Bloomberg</a>. While revenue is in line with expectations, weaker than expected margins and slower hiring is a concern, says analysts <a href="https://twitter.com/CNBCTV18Live/status/1488700416942829568">reportedly</a> at UBS investment banking firm. It also maintained a ‘sell’ rating on the stock with a target price of ₹1,260 per share. Adding to it, more employees are leaving Tech Mahindra than TCS and Wipro in an industry that is struggling with a high attrition rate. However, Tech Mahindra is not the only firm struggling with high attrition, every other IT firm is getting more resignations than ever before. Country's second largest software services firm <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> announced the appointment of <keyword id="4715674" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="d-sundaram">D Sundaram</keyword> as an independent director with effect from July 14, according to PTI news report. The appointment is based on the recommendations of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Board, Infosys said in a statement. <keyword id="120337" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sundaram">Sundaram</keyword> is currently the Vice Chairman and MD of TVS Capital Funds Ltd. He joined Unilever Group in 1975 and has served in various leadership capacities in Unilever Group in a career spanning over 34 years. "He (Sundaram) brings extensive experience in the field of finance and strategy execution," Infosys Chairman <keyword id="484178" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="R-Seshasayee">R Seshasayee</keyword> said. Other independent directors on Infosys Board include Prof John W Etchemendy (<keyword id="101399" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Stanford-University">Stanford University</keyword>'s Provost), Roopa Kudva (former MD and CEO, Crisil), Dr Punita Kumar-Sinha (former Senior MD of Blackstone) and Jeffrey Sean Lehman (vice chancellor of <keyword id="4716260" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="nyu-shanghai">NYU Shanghai</keyword>). Ravi Venkatesan (former Microsoft India Chairman), Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (Chairperson and MD of <keyword id="6358361" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Biocon">Biocon</keyword>) and D N Prahlad (CEO of <keyword id="4716261" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="surya-software-systems">Surya Software Systems</keyword>) are also on Infosys' Board as independent directors.

Infosys appoints D Sundaram as independent director

<keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> has handed out more than Rs 14 crore in compensation to its four senior executives, thanks to stock-based incentives. The stock incentives shot up the total compensation of presidents Rajesh Murthy, Sandeep Dadlani and Mohit Joshi, and deputy chief operating officer Ravi Kumar S by over 50% in the previous fiscal year. As per the annual report of Infosys, the increase was mainly in the form of performance-based stock incentives that will vest over four years. The news comes after the tussle between Infosys founders and the board members over the pay packages is yet to be resolved. Infosys founder <keyword id="51793" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NR-Narayana-Murthy">NR Narayana Murthy</keyword> had expressed displeasure over the steep hike in compensation to chief operating officer UB Pravin Rao. In fiscal 2017, Rao's total compensation rose to Rs 11.80 crore from Rs 8.14 crore, including incentives. Also, last year, Infosys shareholders had questioned the pay hike given to CEO Vishal Sikka. Infosys has been battling a slew of issues - including questions on governance standards and slowing industry growth. Meanwhile, Infosys has also formed a 'committee of directors', which includes co-chairmen R Seshasayee and Ravi Venkatesan as well as board member DN Prahlad, that will support and advise the management in executing the company's strategy.
