Amid a tussle between the <keyword id="6362177" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-government">Union government</keyword> and <keyword id="6354616" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Twitter">Twitter</keyword> over the new IT rules, members of a <keyword id="85516" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Parliamentary-panel">parliamentary panel</keyword> on Friday strongly objected to Twitter India officials' observations that they abide by their policy and categorically told them that the rule of land is supreme. According to sources, members of the Parliamentary Panel on <keyword id="6363148" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="information-technology">Information Technology</keyword> also asked Twitter why it should not be fined as it has been found "violating" rules of the country. Earlier this month, the Centre issued a notice to Twitter giving it one last chance to "immediately" comply with the new IT rules and warned that failure to adhere to the norms will lead to the platform losing exemption from liability under the IT Act. The Parliamentary <keyword id="6355940" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="standing-committee">Standing Committee</keyword> on Information and Technology, chaired by Congress leader <keyword id="42749" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shashi-Tharoor">Shashi Tharoor</keyword>, had last week summoned Twitter over issues related to misuse of the platform and protection of citizens' rights. Twitter India's public policy manager Shagufta Kamran and legal counsel Ayushi Kapoor deposed before the panel on Friday. Members of the panel asked some tough and searching questions to Twitter India officials but there answers lacked clarity and were ambiguous, sources said. They strongly objected to the observation of Twitter India officials that its policy is on par with the rule of land and categorically told them "rule of land is supreme, not your policy", sources said. Twitter and the Centre have been at loggerheads over several issues for the last few months. The microblogging site had faced backlash when it briefly removed the 'blue tick' verification badge from the personal account of Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and of several senior RSS functionaries, including its chief Mohan Bhagwat. Earlier, Delhi Police had sent a notice to Twitter, seeking an explanation of how it described an alleged "Congress toolkit" against the Central government as manipulated media. The police reportedly had also questioned Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari on May 31 and visited the Twitter India offices in Delhi and Gurgaon on May 24 over the toolkit issue. Rule of land supreme, not your policy: Parliamentary panel on information technology to Twitter

Today’s economic and political climate adds new challenges to the existing need to protect people, assets and the community. In such a scenario, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=oil+and+gas">oil and gas</a> industry commands a lot of influence, based on its power to impact almost every other commodity in the market. The delay caused in responding to unsafe situations result in incidents like fire, pipeline leakages, oil spills, equipment failure, rig blow out, explosion and plant shutdown. 
 
According to an <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Oil+%26+Gas">Oil &amp; Gas</a> IQ survey of CIOs, IT Directors, and project leaders in the industry, the number 2 priority for CIOs in 2013 was mobile technology. To add to that, 55% of CIOs believe that mobile technology will greatly enhance operations. Hence it will become of utmost significance for mobile technology to be implemented. Mobility comes with the capacity to inject efficiency and effectiveness in the safety process by providing a framework for information dissemination, advanced analytics (simulation), access to database, communication with and mobilization of the right experts and teams, among other factors. 
 
This indicates that the companies are leveraging mobility in transforming the safety division and have been able to reduce the accidents, improve the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Overall+Equipment+Effectiveness">Overall Equipment Effectiveness</a> (OEE), as well as ensure higher compliance of the Audit action items thereby translating into higher Operating margin. 
 
· In the domain of plant audit, mobility could enhance the effectiveness of a manual data capture system by improving the data accuracy, consistency, and availability of information. Video and image recordings of the safety breach at the incident can be stored and shared seamlessly. 
· Mobile solutions can reduce human error by enforcing procedural integrity for human activity, effectively closing the loop around the “stranded” assets that traditional monitoring misses. · Mobility could inject efficiency in the system and process of recording events, which are manually maintained and monitored in old and non-digitized oil fields. The structured/unstructured data can be easily integrated with other electronic systems, facilitating the systematic recording of events from other systems, and supporting a faster rule-based interpretation/evaluation of the overall plant condition. 
· Workflow management is another area that can expedite the entire process of managing the safety event. The operator can prepare the safety report with the details of the incident and send to the technical team for validation and support. The safety head can then access the information via mobile to approve a plan of action with subsequent dissemination of the information to all those concerned. All this can be integrated with the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Document+Management+System">Document Management System</a> on mobility platform. 
 
Mobility presents an opportunity to provide contextual displays by splitting the plant into safety zones. Alerts can be sent over a mobile platform based on rule-based threshold limits to the right individuals with details about problem. Based on the alert, various department SMEs like Field Technicians, Operators and Maintenance Supervisors can take appropriate action to resolve the threat. This is where the power of Cognitive Decision-Making Science could be leveraged to create a Knowledge Organization. Engineers will be able to scale knowledge and expertise to surface evidence weighted insights from the knowledge repositories (internal and external) to create a fast learning organization to enhance drawing insights for Safety Event. Field Operators will be able to ask complex natural language questions for evidence weighted answers to their common issues from the knowledge repository using Cognitive Computing and be able to fix the problem in the least possible time. 
 
Although one can implement any of the above solutions independently, the best way to ensure cost-effective sustainable safety over the long-term is by committing to a comprehensive safety program. Mobile technologies have a great potential to redefine and re‐engineer the conventional setting for safety management of Oil and Gas assets by offering advanced and smart solutions to remotely manage complex, high‐risk, and capital‐intensive assets regardless of the geographical location, thereby building agile information.

How Mobility is the answer to Oil and Gas Industry’s’
Safety solution?

Research firm <keyword id="6371981" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Gartner">Gartner</keyword> has said that the focus on '<keyword id="1929810" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Digital-India">Digital India</keyword>' initiative and use of technology to deliver services to citizens is likely to propel the growth of government’s IT expenditure by 5%. This would make it touch $7.2 billion in 2015. 
 
As per Gartner, the IT spending is likely to reach $6.6 billion this year. 
 
The prediction includes spending by the government and its agencies on internal IT, hardware, software, external IT services and telecommunications. 
 
"IT services, which include consulting, implementation, IT outsourcing and business process outsourcing, will be the largest overall IT government spending category through 2018," Gartner’s Research Director Anurag Gupta said. 
 
The software market is predicted to grow at a rapid pace to reach $788 million in 2014 and further to $910 million in 2015. 
 
"India has a new government in power with the underlying promise of 'less government and more governance'. The delivery of a citizen-centric and transparent government is only possible through the extensive use of technology and by leveraging digital government," Gupta said.

Indian Govt’s IT Expense Likely To Reach $7.2 Billion In 2015: Gartner

The government has dropped the permit requirement for untested AI models but emphasised the need to label AI-generated content, according to a latest advisory on <keyword id="19904566" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="artificial-intelligence" source="keywords">Artificial Intelligence</keyword> technology. Instead of permission for AI models under development, the fresh advisory issued by the <keyword id="19966789" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-electronics" source="keywords">Ministry of Electronics</keyword> and IT on Friday evening fine-tuned the compliance requirement as per IT Rules of 2021. "The advisory is issued in suppression of advisory...dated 1st March 2024," the advisory said. It has been observed that IT firms and platforms are often negligent in undertaking due diligence obligations underlined under the <keyword id="19930099" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="information-technology" source="keywords">Information Technology</keyword> (Intermediary Guidelines and <keyword id="20033095" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-media-ethics-code" source="keywords">Digital Media Ethics Code</keyword> ) Rules, 2021, according to the new advisory. The government has asked firms to label content generated using their AI software or platform and inform users about the possible inherent fallibility or unreliability of the output generated using their AI tools. "Where any intermediary through its software or any other computer resource permits or facilitates synthetic creation, generation or modification of a text, audio, visual or audio-visual information, in such a manner that such information may be used potentially as misinformation or deepfake, it is advised that such information created generated or modified through its software or any other computer resource is labelled....that such information has been created generated or modified using the computer resource of the intermediary," the advisory said. In case any changes are made by the user, the metadata should be so configured to enable identification of such user or computer resource that has effected such change, it added. After a controversy over a response of Google's AI platform to queries related to Prime Minister <keyword id="19895781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="keywords">Narendra Modi</keyword>, the government on March 1 issued an advisory for social media and other platforms to label under-trial AI models and prevent hosting unlawful content. The <keyword id="19959928" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-electronics-and-information-technology" source="keywords">Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology</keyword>, in the advisory issued to intermediaries and platforms, warned of criminal action in case of non-compliance. The previous advisory has asked the entities to seek approval from the government for deploying under trial or unreliable artificial intelligence (AI) models and deploy them only after labelling them of "possible and inherent fallibility or unreliability of the output generated". Govt removes permit requirement for untested AI models; calls for labelling content

A total of 56 cases have been registered against those found using derogatory language against communities and political figures in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj and nearly 50% of those booked, have been found using fake details to create an account on social networking websites. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="74669748" title="Coronavirus cases in India state wise soar to 23,077— with Tripura becoming third corona-free state" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> This comes after IANS reported on Thursday that Pakistan has been running social media propaganda against India using fake Arab, Christian and Hindu identities to target Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>'s government. Inspector General (Prayagraj range) K.P. Singh said, "A total of 56 cases were registered between March 23 and April 23. The 56 FIRs were lodged under sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 295 A (malicious acts intended to outrage religious feeling of any class insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 65 and 66 of the <keyword id="6363148" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="information-technology">Information Technology</keyword> (IT) Act with different police stations in the range." Forty-three FIRs were registered in Prayagraj alone followed by six in <keyword id="120027" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pratapgarh">Pratapgarh</keyword>, four in Fatehpur and three in Kaushambhi. Of these 15 persons have been arrested in Prayagraj, three in Pratapgarh and, one each in Kaushambhi and Fatehpur. The accused had uploaded derogatory remarks, photos, comments on social media. Majority of them had used fake IDs to create accounts on these social networking websites, according to the police Cyber cell. In the posts, the accused using inflammatory and vulgar remarks to hurt the sentiments of a community or circulated fake news. The accounts were later blocked. Senior Superintendent of Police (Prayagraj) Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj said, "We have lodged 43 cases with different police stations of the city against those who had allegedly uploaded derogatory content or videos about the novel <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> outbreak and the lockdown enforced following the pandemic in past one month." The IANS report said on Thursday that security agencies and independent social media users after investigation found that the recent hashtags like <keyword id="9103972" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="islamophia">Islamophia</keyword> in India on Twitter, were mostly sourced to bots, trolls and people in Pakistan. Nearly half of the social media accounts that use abusive language are fake

The shift by Infosys Ltd and others is symptomatic of a maturing industry that wants more revenue from its own intellectual property instead of providing only labour-intensive, lower-margin <keyword id="6363148" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="60" keywordseo="information-Technology">information technology</keyword> and back-office services.
For young graduates who see the $108 billion IT industry as a sure pathway to modern India's growing middle class, the transformation is unsettling.
Dozens of industry aspirants who were recruited on campus by No. 4 player HCL Technologies recently protested outside its offices in several cities. They were offered jobs in 2011 before graduating last year but have not yet been given joining dates - or paychecks.
"Dear H.R. You were also a fresher... once," read a sign carried by two protesters in a photo in The Hindu newspaper.
HCL's December quarter profits and revenues rose while staff numbers shrank - a rare trick in an industry that has long aspired to break the linear relationship between headcount and revenue growth.
Just 20 percent of the 5,000-6,000 campus recruits offered HCL jobs in 2011 have been taken on board since graduation last summer, and HCL said it made no offers in 2012 to students who would graduate in June 2013.
Slower growth, fewer people leaving, greater demand by customers for experienced staff, and increased productivity through automation and software have put pressure on all recruits, according to HCL, which said it expects to accelerate bringing entry-level staff on board from August.
"It's not that the demand doesn't exist. It exists for different skills," said Ajay Davessar, HCL's head of external communications.
"Typical roles which a student thinks, 'I'll just go there and start coding, and have a good life,' are being tested to reality... Any applicant, be it fresher or senior, will have to have flexibility in applying the skills elsewhere."
FEWER 'CODING COOLIES'
<keyword id="6358815" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="tech">Tech</keyword> Mahindra Ltd, the No.5 player, is naming 100 of what it calls mini-CEOs who will be given broad latitude to run their parts of the business.
"We're moving towards a situation like the developed economies, where we're asking the people to be more deep," said Sujitha Karnad, who heads human resources at Tech Mahindra.
"We want more solution architects to be here. We don't want the coding coolies anymore, that's clear," Karnad said, employing a term commonly used in India in association with menial labourers.
While plenty of Indian back office work such as technical support, processing insurance claims or staffing call centres will remain labour-intensive, software services firms are looking to move up the value chain, which means relying less on the time and toil of staff.
Growth in revenue per employee across the industry could expand to 5 percent a year in the next two years from about 3 percent over the past five, said Forrester Research principal analyst Frederic Giron. The growth rate is likely to accelerate from around 2015 as intellectual property-based work accounts for a growing share of the total, he said.
India's IT services industry grew in large part because of the availability of cheap skilled labour, an advantage that is eroding as wages and other costs in India rise.
In years past, it was cost-effective for IT companies to hire new graduates by the thousands and keep a portion on the "bench" awaiting deployment on a client project.
But budget-constrained clients now demand shorter lead times. IT vendors that might have hired people six months in advance of an expected contract are now working with a one- or two-month window, said Surabhi Mathur Gandhi, senior vice president at TeamLease, a staffing consultancy.
Traditionally, about 30 percent of Indian IT services industry staff are on the bench at any given time, often in training, as they await deployment to client work.
In the December quarter, about 70 percent of Infosys staff and less than 65 percent at No. 3 provider Wipro were deployed on billable projects. At Tata Consultancy Services , the largest Indian IT services company, the figure was 72 percent, within what Ajoyendra Mukherjee, its human resources head, calls the comfort range of 70 to 74 percent utilisation.
"I think we can push it up to 75, 76," he said.
Another IT services company, iGate Corp, envisions a future where just 10 percent of staff sit on the bench, said Srinivas Kandula, its human resources head, who predicts that the size of its bench will shrink by 2 or 3 percentage points a year over the next five years.
BACK-UP PLAN
Shorter benches mean a smaller share of hiring is direct from campuses, as seasoned professionals moving from a competitor would be less willing to wait to be deployed and firms are reluctant to pay them to do so.
Companies are also binding hires, especially experienced ones, with three-month notice periods and no-buy-out clauses, compared with one-month notice periods previously.
Among top-tier companies that are most actively trying to push non-linear growth where revenues are not constrained by the size of the work force, about 70 percent of employees are experienced staff, up from 60 percent in 2008, said Rajiv Srinivas, an associate director at Tech Mahindra, who expects that to rise to about 90 percent in the next two or three years.
At Infosys, while the net quarterly addition of employees fell from 4,906 people in the March quarter last year to 977 in the December quarter (excluding an acquisition), lateral recruitment held steady at an average of about 4,300 staff per quarter through December, meaning the percentage of campus hires was much lower.
"Earlier, the focus was more on career ... You get into a job, you start learning, and slowly acquire knowledge over a period of time," said Sunil Gupta, who joined Infosys as vice president of quality about six months ago from the Indian unit of CGI Group's Logica Plc.
"Today the value of a professional is judged by how quickly you're learning, how quickly you're adapting yourself and changing along with the environment," he said.
For young Indians who saw IT as a ticket into the middle class, the change means that career path is becoming less clear. Those who do break in and build valuable skills will remain in demand, but the days of young IT staffers brandishing five or more competing offers are over.
Yet that hasn't necessarily translated into slower wage growth. Mercer LLC expects industry salaries to grow 12 percent this year, the same as in 2012. As India's economy diversifies, graduates have more attractive career options, including at multinationals with a growing India presence, such as Google Inc , which means IT vendors must fight to stay attractive.
"We see IT companies as a back-up," said S. S. Jayaram, a final-year engineering student in Bangalore who says he chose a job in India with Mu Sigma Inc, a fast-growing U.S.-based data analytics company, over offers from IBM and TCS. (Editing by Emily Kaiser)

Indian IT services company <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tata+Consultancy+Services">Tata Consultancy Services</a> reported a 3% sequential revenue growth in Q2. The company fell short of the higher expectations set by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Infosys">Infosys</a>. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tata+Consultancy+Services">TCS</a>' revenue grew by 3% to $4.2 billion. The net profit rose 3.2% sequentially to $926 million. The company reported an operating margin of 27.1%. That’s an improvement of 78 basis points sequentially. 
 
This average growth may end up hampering <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tata+Consultancy+Services">TCS</a>’ growth aspirations.

This cosmopolitan space, most often referred to as the IT capital of India, was setting up its upmarket area for a date with technology. 
 

	Was it love at first sight? Yes, and looks like the courtship is doing a lot of good to technology and the city too. The name of the city, as you may have guessed by now, is <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword>. The first ever city to have opened up to the tech sector many decades ago, also had the honour of being a fit place to experiment with free Wi-Fi hotspots being installed at one of the prime locations. Calling it the Times Square of the city may be a cliché but hey, we love it!<o:p></o:p>

	Mahatma Gandhi road, popularly known as MG Road for those who are familiar with it, became the first space to open free Wi-Fi for anyone in the central area, allowing the browser a time frame of three hours, and download up to 50 MB of data. The thrilled users said the browsing speed made them more than happy since it was not patchy at all, much to the chagrin of those who wouldn’t believe that government can do anything right!<o:p></o:p>

	Now that the first spot has been taken, the race is on for the second place. The competition is between Pune and Hyderabad. And things have gotten to a very interesting level. Hyderabad is somewhat caught in the Telangana web and may heed to the pressure of politics which may ignore the modern image of the city to sorting out its own innards. As far as Pune is concerned, things would be a cakewalk since the city has already turned into a hot destination of IT companies since last few years. But hey, what’s wrong with dreaming and hoping to see it being a reality?<o:p></o:p>

	Futuristically, Pune wouldn’t want to lose out on this opportunity to create a ‘suave’ image for self since Bangalore is reaching near-saturation point as far as accommodating IT companies is concerned. This apart, the central leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been looking at creating alternative cities which are as good as any cosmopolitan city for new businesses to grow in.<o:p></o:p>

	What would be a better chance than introducing <keyword id="107178" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="WiFi">WiFi</keyword> to the people of smaller cities? <keyword id="6357247" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Internet">Internet</keyword> penetration into Indian cities has been growing at a fast pace. To leverage on this neo-economical growth, India needs to open up to the demand by its citizens, following the trend of internet usage.

	Among the cities, analysts say those with WiFi connectivity project a professional image for businesses to grow roots in. By that count, Bangalore, Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai have decent WiFi hotspots in some prominent areas. While some cities have kept it free, some have opted to offer paid services.<o:p></o:p>

	Every other Indian state, including Gujarat, are vying to be in the ‘hotspot’ area starting with bigger cities, and move in to cover almost all places where internet connectivity is good and towers can be installed without causing any ecological harm.<o:p></o:p>

	Private companies like TATA and Vodafone have evinced interest in setting up the infrastructure for WiFi connectivity in Indian cities. TATA plans to have 3000-4000 WiFi hotspots in cities before the end of 2015, making it an ambitious project on part of the company.<o:p></o:p>

Pandya uncovered how Nokia was having all of its handset users' supposedly secure data diverted to its own servers, unencrypted, then re-encrypted and sent out to its intended destination server. They did this through preinstalled software that automatically rerouted all traffic to Nokia servers.
The action, Pandaya rightfully pointed out, potentially gave eyes at the company an opportunity to look at classified information.
Caught in the act, the company quickly rerouted encrypted data to other servers — but the damage had been done.
From a <a href="http://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/view/30167/nokia-fixes-its-own-mitm-attack-partly/">Information Security Magazine</a> post just today:
Nobody suggests that Nokia has abused this information; but it is a clear issue of trust. The whole purpose of https encrypted traffic is so that the user can have confidence that his message cannot be eavesdropped en route. “It is a big deal,” says <a href="http://falkvinge.net/2013/01/11/death-twitches-nokia-caught-wiretapping-encrypted-traffic-from-its-handsets/" target="_blank">Rick Falkvinge</a> (the founder of the Swedish Pirate Party), “because banks rely on having a secure connection all the way to you. As do corporate networks. As do news outlets’ protection of sources.
While no one is suggesting that Nokia spied on data, the potential exposure of proprietary corporate information, secret sources, possibly even state secrets without users permission is a huge deal in the information security world.
Nokia's <a href="http://www.techweekeurope.co.uk/news/nokia-decrypting-traffic-man-in-the-middle-attacks-103799">statement to TechWeek UK</a>:
“The proxy servers do not store the content of web pages visited by our users or any information they enter into them. When temporary decryption of HTTPS connections is required on our proxy servers, to transform and deliver users’ content, it is done in a secure manner.”
Last August, privacy advocates were concerned as Nokia developed the ability to track users' movements <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nokia-has-come-up-with-an-algorithm-that-knows-where-youll-be-24-hours-from-now-2012-8">in the future</a>, up to 24 hours in advance, with a margin of error of about 10 feet. Nokia claimed that process was also for the benefit of users.
