Samsung announced the launch of the S8 and S8 Plus simultaneously in new York and London and it was more than a big affair, even amidst all the glitz, the phones managed to shine. If we start with the design of the phones, yes, the rumours were true it does have a curved display that covers almost the entire front side of the phone even the home button; the home button now resides below the screen. The S8 has a 5.8-inch screen and the S8 Plus has a 6.2-inch screen.<br />

There hasn’t been much of an upgrade from the S7 in terms of the camera the S8 has 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front-facing camera.<br />
<br /> The phone also has 64 GB of internal memory which is expandable via MicroSD slot. The S8, like many Samsung phones is water resistant. And the new S8 is future ready as it can control all you smart home appliances. It also has a fast charging feature and ofcourse the wireless charging. It comes with <keyword id="761350" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Harman-Kardon">Harman Kardon</keyword> earbuds and it has a headphone jack!<br />

With all eyes on Samsung’s big launch, Samsung has managed to put up a great show explaining the many features of the phone including infinity display, IRIS scanner and Samsung’s very own assistant Bixby. One of the most talked about features of the S8 was finally Samsung’s AI Assistant, Bixby. We can’t say how good or bad it is at the moment but it’s there and it seems it can not only read and hear but also see.<br />
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be available starting on April 21, and it comes in many colours, Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue and Maple Gold. According to the site, you can preorder the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus from March 30.<br />

However, we cannot confirm whether or not the packaging is real, so take all of this information with a grain of salt.</p><p>Previous rumors indicated the Galaxy S9 would be very similar to the Galaxy s8 in terms of both design and specs. The leaked packaging also looks very similar to the Galaxy S8's box. While the image below looks extremely convincing, this could still be a Galaxy S8 box edited to look like a box for the Galaxy S9.</p><p><span>So far, it appears major updates on the Galaxy S9 may primarily focus on internal hardware and less so on design and special features. The Samsung Galaxy S9 retail box may have just leaked - and it reveals all of the phone's key features

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>A new leaked image courtesy of prolific leaker Evan Blass (also known as @evleaks) shows what will likely be the final design of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note smartphone.<p>The device, which will seemingly come to the market under the "Galaxy Note 8" moniker, is the successor to last year's ill-fated Galaxy Note 7.</p><p>The Note 7 was <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-ending-galaxy-note-7-production-2016-10">recalled from the market twice</a> due to its faulty battery that made the handset dangerous for customers.</p><p>It was a huge blow for Samsung as a whole, but after a series of rumours that suggested that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/galaxy-note-7-might-be-last-galaxy-note-from-samsung-2016-10">the Note line might disappear</a> entirely, the Korean giant <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-galaxy-note-8-happening-2016-10">decided to keep the brand alive</a>, and even <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-is-bringing-back-the-galaxy-note-7-with-a-new-fan-edition-2017-7">launched a "Fan Edition"</a> of last year's model (essentially a refurbished Note 7 with a safe battery).</p><p>As far as design goes, as always, the Note is a blend of the previous year's Note and the latest Galaxy S phone; in this case, the Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy S8.</p><p>The Note 8 retains the somewhat square-ish, boxier shape from its predecessor, but also uses a curved, edge-to-edge, presumably OLED (organic light-emitting diode) "Infinity Display" that covers almost its entire front surface, and apparently ditches the physical home button in favour of software keys as well.</p><p>This would line up precisely with what the Galaxy S8 has done, and the same can be said for the sensors up top: A front-facing camera, a proximity sensor, and an infrared iris scanner to add an extra level of security to the fingerprint reader, which has moved to the phone's back.</p><p>Speaking of the back, a second picture from Blass also shows that Samsung seemingly opted to give its high-end flagship the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-galaxy-note-8-leak-dual-camera-fixed-fingerprint-scanner-2017-7">long-rumoured dual camera</a> treatment, although it's unclear how the company plans to use the secondary rear shooter.</p><p>Also unclear is the presence of a headphone jack - which the Galaxy S8 has - but the Note 8 will still have a circle-shaped port in any case, as the device's signature S Pen stylus is making a comeback, too.</p><p>There is no additional information on specs, but <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-galaxy-note-8-rumors-price-photo-release-date-specs-2017-6/">past rumours have pointed towards</a> a 6.3-inch, 2:1 aspect ratio, QuadHD (2960x1440) display, a top-of-the-line Snapdragon system-on-a-chip from Qualcomm (either the 835 or 836) or Samsung's own Exynos 8895 (depending on the market), up to 6GB of RAM, and a 3300mAh battery.</p><p>The Galaxy Note 8 will be officially announced <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-galaxy-note-8-announcement-date-2017-7">on August 23 in New York</a>.</p><div></div><div></div>    <div class="margin-top">        <h3>NOW WATCH: <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/area-51-american-conspiracy-theories-aliens-history-animation-video-2017-7">How Area 51 became the center of alien conspiracy theories</a></h3>        <div>            <div>        <div class="ooyala-video-player" data-video-autoplay="false" data-video-id="g4d2p2YjE6GeiuwvWaDlgluQP7ixHYIq" data-player-variable="ooyalapopvideo" id="ooyalaplayer_popvideo" style="width:1280px;height:720px"></div>        </div>        </div>            </div>

New leaked images seemingly confirm the design of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 8

While Google’s first Pixel phones have been <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/8-reasons-why-Googles-Pixel-is-the-only-phone-that-stands-a-chance-to-lure-iPhone-fans-into-using-an-Android-phone/articleshow/55485395.cms">reviewed</a> as one of the best <keyword id="6355645" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="android">Android</keyword> devices out there, it did leave people wanting a bit more - reason why <keyword id="2740764" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pixel-2">Pixel 2</keyword> is easily one of the most awaited phones this year. A recent leaked image by <a href="http://www.androidpolice.com/">Android Police</a> suggests big changes in terms of the design of the new Pixel.<br />
<br /> To start with, the second generation <keyword id="3618804" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pixel-XL">Pixel XL</keyword> is rumoured to be manufactured by <keyword id="6356116" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="LG">LG</keyword>. The new device is likely to be curved around the edges just like the first Pixel phone but the curves are likely to be sharper on the new device. Another big change in terms of design could be the complete overhaul of the back of the device. Google had everyone talking about the glass portion on the top back, many said it’s only to differentiate itself from other phones out there. However it looks like the glass part on the back is very much part of the new pixel phone but has shrunk in size. The glass detail will only be on the very top of the phone sporting the camera and the flash. The fingerprint scanner will continue to be at the back but will fall below the glass portion without losing its original positioning.<br />

Remember the size of the camera on the Pixel of 2016? It was an extremely small camera, although Pixel was one of the highest rated camera phones of 2016. Looks like the new Google Pixel XL could have a much bigger camera at the top left with a metal ring around it (not present on the first generation Pixel camera) and it is also likely to protrude a little. That is different from the last generation Pixel where camera was tucked into the glass part giving it a smooth look and feel. Another change that can certainly up the design aspect of the phone is that the new Pixel may completely do away with visible antennas at the back, it could be hidden giving the back of the new phone a complete minimalist look. <br />

Well it’s not just the back but there could be many changes in the front too. The display for instance is rumoured to get a size bump.. not necessarily with a body size bump. The new pixel could have very thin bezels increasing the size of the screen without affecting the size of the phone. With the new display screen, it could compete with the likes of Galaxy S8, however the Pixel display is flat unlike the S8 with curved infinity display. Even if it’s not a curved display it is likely to have a 3G glass effect. We can also expect better sound quality as the speaker grille at the top front is visibly wider. Speaking of sound, it not quite certain right now whether the new Pixel phone will have a headphone jack or decide to do away with it like the new iPhone7. And what’s really interesting is that leaks suggest that Pixel could have squeezable frame! The motion could help wake up the phone or get Google Assistant’s attention, we’ll have to wait and watch what happens when you squeeze the Pixel!<br />

While these changes are likely to hit the new Pixel XL, there is still time for the launch of new Pixels and we will have to see what overall changes Google brings to the second generation Pixel phones. An upgrade in design is a must for Google as it competes in the premium segment and the second generation of the Pixel phones done right can help Google make a big mark as a premium smartphone brand.<br />

<p>The big SUV is back! With falling oil prices and the availability of cheap credit, large SUVs are once again flying out of show room doors. The king of the hill for this segment - according <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/you-can-hate-the-cadillac-escalade-all-you-want--until-you-drive-one-2014-11" target="_blank">Business Insider's Matthew DeBord</a> and most industry observers - is the almighty Cadillac Escalade. </p>
<p>The Escalade has it all. It's big, stylish, powerful, and rugged. In the decade and a half since its debut, the big Caddy has becomes a true pop culture icon. No celebrity-sighting or high-gloss event is complete without a fleet of black Escalades parked in the background. This cultural ubiquity has translated into big bucks for Cadillac, with Escalade sales up more than 50% in 2014. </p>
<p>As amazing as the Escalade may be, Japan's auto giants have come up with a trio of contenders to challenge the Caddy's claim to the throne. From Acura, there's the new MDX. From Infiniti comes a mildly refreshed QX80, and from Lexus there is the LX570. Each with their own idea for what a large luxury SUV should be. Business Insider had the opportunity to drive all three. Here's what we thought.</p>
<p><strong>Acura MDX</strong></p>

<p>The Acura MDX is the "techie" of the trio. The Acura isn't the most stylish, nor is it the most luxurious. However, it makes up for that by serving up a vehicle that's modern, elegant, and minimalist - chic enough for any smartphone-wielding technocrat. This presentation is in line with the marque's overall theme, starting with its eye-catching bejeweled LED headlamps and moving right along to the dual LCD displays that dominate the MDX's interior.</p>
<p>To drive, the MDX is the most car-like of the trio - and that's for good reason. While the others, along with the Escalade, are truck-based models, the MDX is actually a crossover. It's even available in a front-wheel-drive only version - a layout that's more family station wagon than burly truck.</p>
<p>What the Acura lacks in ruggedness, it more than makes up for with the urbane civility of the driving experience. In addition, Honda has loaded the MDX up with a full-array of advanced driver-assistance tech that will keep you in your lane, make slight turns and even automatically brake if you aren't paying attention to the car in front of you. In fact, in many instances, the car practically drives itself. </p>
<p><strong>Infiniti QX80</strong></p>

<p>The Infiniti QX80 is the pretty boy of the group. Everything about the big truck exudes brute style and luxury. Infiniti lavished its flagship SUV with acres of chrome, wood trim, and leather accents in attempt to create an off-road capable limousine - very much in the same vein as the Escalade.</p>
<p>And for the most part, Infiniti has succeeded. This is especially the case for the QX's second row. Out test car's pair of captain's chairs were separated by a central console holding a pair of wireless headphone that are paired to the truck's dual rear-seat entertainment screens. In short, it felt like a private jet back there. </p>
<p>The experience from the driver's seat was commanding and powerful. You sit high above all others on the road. You realize just how large a vehicle you're in when everything else on the road feels comparatively tiny. However, the QX80 proved to be surprisingly nimble and peppy to drive. You may think "peppy" is an odd thing to say about an almost 6,000-lb. truck. But the 5.6 liter 400-horsepower V8 engine is no lumberjack - it provides ample power but provides it with zing.</p>
<p>At 17-feet long and 6 and a half feet wide, the QX was also surprising easy to park, thanks to unexpectedly precise steering and Infiniti's surround-view cameras, which enable you to see all corners of the truck - as if you were floating above it. A neat tech trick! Very Cool!</p>
<p><strong>Lexus LX570</strong></p>

<p>The LX570 is Lexus' answer to America's luxury SUV domination. With Lexus as the only non-European luxury brand capable of running toe-to-toe with the best Mercedes, BMW, and Audi can muster, the LX570 has a tough task to handle. Fortunately, it does its job incredibly well. <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">A Lexus-fied version of Toyota's iconic Land Cruiser, the LX570 one of the most capable off-road SUV's in the history of the segment. </span></p>
<p>The Land Cruiser transports soldiers and aid workers through some of the world most hostile and unforgiving terrain. So by being based on that vehicle, the LX projects some serious street cred. But Lexus has done a fine job of presenting the vehicle with the restrained civility expected from the marque. It's a Navy Seal in a Saville Row suit. Hidden under all the posh is a ride that's thoroughly battle-tested.</p>
<p>A massive 5.7-liter V8, shared with the Toyota Tundra truck, pumps out 383 horsepower. In true Lexus fashion, the LX is smooth, quiet, and deeply refined. The wood trim and soft-touch leather are as nice you'll find anywhere. But what really sets the LX apart from the Escalade, QX80, and MDX is the row of nobs and switches sitting right in front of the shifter lever - they control the LX's advanced four-wheel-drive system.</p>
<p><strong>How do they compare to the Escalade?</strong></p>
<p>All three Japanese luxury SUV's bring a different flavor to the table. The Acura MDX is the most car-like and tech-friendly. The Infiniti QX80 is like rolling private jet with a massive motor. The LX570 is an action film star wrapped in refinement.</p>
<p>But what makes the Escalade special is the near-perfect combination of style, power, luxury, and with every passing generation, more and more refinement. It's the status quo. The default choice. But sometimes it's good to stray from beaten path. Japan's luxury trio offer substantial alternatives to the mighty Escalade. And no one will confuse you with an Uber driver!</p>

However, these new rumors that we see are starting to pile up on each other and double up on each other. With that in mind, we're kind of getting a really good sense of what to expect from Samsung pretty soon.</p><p>We're actually expecting four different models. That's what the rumors say. One of which is the Galaxy S10 Lite. That's meant to be sort of maybe the more budget-friendly model of the Galaxy S10. Apparently it won't have those iconic curved edges on the display. And it'll be sort of an overall smaller device. And it might not have some of the, you know, cool new tech and features that the other models have. Then we have the regular Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10+. Those are the usual sort of models that Samsung will release every year. Display size is kind of in the air right now. We're not 100% sure but we'll find out soon enough.</p><p>Then it becomes a little interesting. There is a new Galaxy S10 X. And this is said to be an ultra-premium, fancy, crazy, you know, model of this, of the Galaxy S10 lineup. It's meant to be pretty large for one. It's gonna have a large battery I've heard. I've heard rumors that it will have 5G support. 10 gigabytes of RAM, which is an enormous number. It's also said to have a base level of one terabyte of storage. I don't know anyone who needs that much storage in a phone. But hey, it's there if you need it. And you'll probably have to pay for it.</p><p>Interestingly, the Galaxy S10 X is said to have six cameras I heard. I have an idea about what five of those lenses will do. You'll basically get the regular-angle lens. Ultra-wide angle lens. And probably a zoom lens on the back. And then on the front, you'll probably have a regular-angle selfie camera. And an ultra-wide angle selfie camera, which has been a trend recently with a few phones like the Google Pixel 3 and the LG V40. One other thing we're expecting on the fancy Galaxy S10 X is an in-display fingerprint reader. That actually might not seem very new to you because you probably saw that on the OnePlus 6T, as well as some other Chinese phones like Xiaomi. But, unlike OnePlus, Samsung is said to be using an ultrasonic technology, which apparently is better than the optical technology that OnePlus uses for the OnePlus 6T. We'll have to see whether or not it'll be better.</p><p>We don't actually know that much about specs for the whole lineup in general. One thing I'm predicting is that they're all gonna use the new chip from Qualcomm. The Snapdragon 855. So not too many rumors are surrounding the specs. At least not as much as for design.</p><p>Samsung so far has avoided the notch. And we're not expecting it in the Galaxy S10 lineup. This year we're expecting a hole-punch instead of a notch. There'll be a hole-punch in the top right of the devices. We actually kind of get an idea of what it looks like with some of Samsung's recent phones. Like the Galaxy A8. Anyway, that seems to be a new trend now that's gonna be happening. I believe on the S10+ and the S10 X we'll see a larger hole-punch. Like an oval, double hole-punch. We'll see how much, that again, that impacts what you're seeing on the screen like videos or an app.</p><p>Will the headphone jack be on the new Samsung phones? Who knows. This one has flipped and flopped a lot over the last couple months. Some say that Samsung removed it. Some say that Samsung kept it. We don't know. We'll have to wait and see. We're expecting the latest devices from Samsung to come with the latest version of Android. And we're also expecting a brand new Samsung One UI, user interface, running on top of Android, which should offer a cleaner and faster and just more responsive kind of experience with Samsung's phones. Samsung is also said to be giving the S10 models a better, sort of, facial recognition system. Some have been calling it, you know, something close to Apple's FaceID on the iPhone X. However, considering the hole-punch holes on the front of the phone and the super slim bezels, I'm really not sure where Samsung would put all that facial recognition stuff. The hole-punch holes in the Infinity-O display's kind of small. Maybe enough space for a selfie camera, but, hard to tell like where the sensors are going.</p><p>As regard to price, I'm thinking it's gonna be a very standard Samsung Galaxy S kind of pricing. The Galaxy S10 E or S10 Lite, however you wanna call it, that might have a lower price than usual. So perhaps under $700. And then the Galaxy S10 X however that has a wild price tag of $1,200 so far. At least according to some rumors.</p><p>So the Galaxy S10 I think is gonna be very exciting. I feel like the whole phone itself will just have this fresher look than the older phones. It'll be really interesting to see how Samsung thinks it could up the smartphone game. So tune in on February 20th for Samsung's Unpacked Event. It'll be streamed live. And that's when we'll find out everything we need to know about Samsung's new Galaxy S10 phones.</p>

Everything we know about the Galaxy S10, which is shaping up to be Samsung's best phone yet

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Samsung's do-over starts now.</p><p>After a miserable seven months cleaning up the mess left by the Galaxy Note 7 debacle, it's time for a reset. On Wednesday, Samsung unveiled its newest flagship phones, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus, pinning hopes on the flashy new launch and upcoming big-budget marketing campaign to rescue the company's reputation.</p><h2>Display and design</h2><p>Like its explosive predecessor, the Galaxy S8 is one of the most attractive phones you can buy. The curved display covers almost the entire front of the phone, with only slim bezels at the top and the bottom. Samsung calls this its new Infinity Display, and it really is striking when you see it in person. Samsung was able to fit more screen on a phone body that's smaller and better looking than the iPhone. (The S8 has a 5.8-inch screen and the S8 Plus has a 6.2-inch screen, and Samsung says the display covers almost 83% of the front.)</p><p>The body of the phone is also symmetrical on the front and back, so it feels much more natural in your hand. Even with such a large screen, the phone is easier to hold and pocket than the relatively chunky iPhone or Google Pixel.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><h2>A new digital assistant</h2><p>The other key feature in the Galaxy S8 is Bixby, Samsung's new homegrown digital assistant that promises to let you control everything on your phone with your voice. But for now, Bixby, which launches with a dedicated button on the side of the phone, is limited to Samsung's apps and system functions like brightness control. It also has a feature that can use the camera to identify objects and pull up search results and other information related to the item you're looking at.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Outside of voice control, Bixby also has a new Home panel that lives to the left of your main screen. It's full of information relevant to you and is strikingly similar to Google Now, which has been on Android phones and the iPhone for years.</p><p>Eventually, Samsung will let third-party developers enable Bixby in their Android apps and start incorporating features from Viv, the artificial-intelligence company founded by the creators of Siri that Samsung bought last year. It's a little too early to judge Bixby, but the controlled demo of an early version Samsung showed Business Insider didn't look very promising.</p><h2>Security and death of the home button</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Another big change in the Galaxy S8 is the lack of home button. Instead, digital keys appear at the bottom of the display with standard Android system controls for returning back to the home screen and going back a page. The bottom of the display is also sensitive to pressure, so you feel some feedback when you press down.</p><p>The fingerprint sensor, which was embedded in the home button on previous Galaxy phones, is now on the back of the device, right next to the camera.</p><p>The Galaxy S8 also adopts the iris scanner that was introduced in the Galaxy Note 7. It can be used to unlock the device or access secure folders, and Samsung claims it's even more secure than the fingerprint sensor.</p><p>Finally, the front-facing camera has built-in face detection that can also be programmed to unlock your phone when you look at it. It's much faster than the fingerprint or iris scanners, but it's not as secure. That's great for quickly unlocking your device, but there is a greater chance it could be fooled.</p><h2>A portable desktop computer</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>There's one other major trick inside the Galaxy S8: The phone can dock with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse and act as a lightweight desktop computer running a modified version of Android.</p><p>The dock, called DeX, will be sold separately (Samsung hasn't announced a price) and includes ports for HDMI, USB, and Ethernet. Once the phone is connected, it can run Android apps in a desktop environment. Some apps like Microsoft Office and Adobe Lightroom have been optimized for the desktop mode, and other apps will be free to do the same. Otherwise, your Android apps will appear in separate, smartphone-sized windows.</p><p>The phone-as-a-desktop isn't a new concept, though. Motorola tried it years ago with the Atrix, and Windows is experimenting with its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-continuum-stream-full-windows-desktop-from-your-phone-2015-4">Continuum feature for Windows 10 phones</a>. So far, no one has proved there's a real demand for it, but that hasn't stopped Samsung from trying.</p><h2>Does it explode?</h2><p>That's a reasonable question when looking at a new Samsung phone in the post-Note 7 era. Samsung announced in January that it would use a series of new safety checks for all its future devices, including the Galaxy S8. Of course, there's no guarantee, and we won't know for sure until more people buy the phone and use it in the wild. But it seems unlikely Samsung would risk making the same blunder twice.</p><h2>Other stuff</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Those are the most important features in the Galaxy S8, but here are some others to whet your appetite:</p><ul><li>A 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front-facing camera.</li><li>64 GB of internal memory. Expandable storage is available via MicroSD slot.</li><li>Water resistance.</li><li>The Samsung Connect app for controlling your smart home appliances.</li><li>Fast charging via plug and wireless fast charging.</li><li>A standard headphone jack and USB-C connector for charging and accessories.</li><li>It comes with Harman Kardon earbuds, a $99 value.</li></ul><p>The price will be up to individual carriers and retailers, but expect to pay at least $750 for the base model. Preorders start now, and the phone will be available in stores on April 21. <p class="p1">Compared to Tony Stark, Captain America, and the Hulk, you probably haven't heard of the alien team that was first introduced to <a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&amp;field-keywords=guardians%20of%20the%20galaxy%201969&amp;sprefix=guardian%2Cstripbooks%2C169&amp;rh=i%3Astripbooks%2Ck%3Aguardians%20of%20the%20galaxy%201969">Marvel comics in 1969</a> until recently. </p>
<p class="p1">Business Insider attended a screening of the new movie Wednesday before its in theaters next month, and it's safe to say that risk is going to pay off in a big way.</p>
<p class="p1">Not only does the film finally reward viewers for patiently sitting through countless Marvel end-credits scenes over the years, but "Guardians" is brash, it's bold, and it's not afraid to stray from what you typically expect from Marvel in terms of superheroes. <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1"><strong>Warning: Some minor spoilers follow.</strong></p>
<p class="p1"><strong>"Guardians" isn't trying to be another Avengers - and that's a good thing. </strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Disney/Marvel</span></p></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">This time around we're not following people who are supposed to be idolized. The team that makes up the group of Guardians are a bunch of self-absorbed misfit miscreants who would probably make good candidates for therapy.</span></p>
<p class="p1">We meet two bounty hunters in the form of a feisty, gun-toting Raccoon named Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and his faithful giant tree-like companion Groot (Vin Diesel). <span>Rocket has some real anger issues and a slightly all-too-eager trigger happy finger. Groot can only utter one sentence ("I am Groot."). </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) takes everything you say literally and </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">wants to avenge a slain family. Gamora (Zoe Saldana), a deadly assassin, has some serious daddy issues. Then there's Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) who </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">was abducted by aliens when he was 8-years-old and is now a womanizer traveling around space calling himself Star-Lord.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span><span>In many ways, they're the anti-Avengers and it works. </span>The group's quirky personalities are a refreshing change that allows them to stand out in what is soon to become a very crowded Marvel cinematic universe. </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>

<p class="p1">"Guardians" is essentially the culmination of many previous teasers we've seen in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/post-credit-scene-from-every-marvel-films-2014-4/">end-credits sequences</a> for Marvel films. Remember all of those teasers with Thanos, the Collector, and hints at the Infinity Stones? Well, prepare for them to come to life on screen. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><br /></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span>The five end up in cahoots after Quill stumbles upon an Orb that ends up housing a powerful gem known as an Infinity Stone. It's a very in-demand item that many different people in the film are after. It's such a hot-ticket item that one man, The Collector, who we've </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/thor-the-dark-world-end-credits-scenes-2013-11">seen briefly before</a>, <span>is willing to pay a space currency of 4 billion units (a possible subtle nod to how much Disney paid to acquire Marvel in 2009).</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1"><strong>Chris Pratt's reign at theaters continues</strong><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbFPyMOHcHQ&amp;feature=youtu.be">Guardians of the Galaxy trailer</a></span></p></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Pratt hooks the viewer from the moment you see him enter the screen throwing on a retro set of headphones, putting on an old school Sony Walkman, and freely dancing to Redbone's "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWnRMAVWVjk">Come and Get Your Love</a>" across a wide open set like a goofball. It's one of the most satisfying, feel-good openings to a film I've seen in a while. The scene takes an unexpected turn quickly that I guarantee will have you laughing. </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">Between "Guardians" and "The Lego Movie," this is really Pratt's year and it's easy to see why. The "Parks and Recreation" star is magnetizing every time he's on screen much in the same way Tom Hiddleston is with Loki in "Thor" and Robert Downey, Jr. is with Tony Stark in "Iron Man."<span> </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">Whether he's dangling a man's robotic leg casually over his shoulder, trying to channel Kevin Bacon in "Footloose" (more on that in a bit), or unsuccessfully hitting on women, he always has your attention on screen.<span> </span></p>
<p class="p1"><strong>There are a lot of fun action sequences</strong><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Disney/Marvel</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p>
<p class="p1"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Many people, ourselves included, weren't really sure what to expect going into "Guardians." Is it a comedy? An action film? A drama?</span></p>
<p class="p1">First and foremost it's an action film. "Guardians" probably has some of the most fight scenes we've seen all summer in a film other than "X-Men: Days of Future Past" or "Transformers." <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">If you're looking for action scenes that aren't completely made up of explosions, "Guardians" offers a lot of fight scenes. <span>It's as if everyone gets a chance to beat up nearly everyone else in this film. </span> Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) vs. the Guardians, Gamura vs.  <span>Nebula (Karen Gillan), Rocket vs. the world, </span>and even the Guardians vs. themselves. </p>
<p class="p1">While I'm not sure that they top scenes from Disney's earlier release this year "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/captain-america-the-winter-soldier-review-2014-4">Captain America: The Winter Solider</a>," there's a satisfying prison sequence and an amusing fight between some of the Guardians early on. </p>
<p class="p1">A scene with Benicio del Toro and the gang is also one that should have audiences talking.<span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1"><strong>But there's one moment that will leave Marvel fanboys reeling.</strong></p>
<p class="p1"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">As we said, the film brings together what we've seen in a lot of end-credits scenes. Knowing that, we won't say what the big reveal is yet - you'll know it when you see it- but there is a very satisfying cameo that has been in the works at Marvel for some time that we were ecstatic to see on screen.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><strong>Groot is handled perfectly in the film</strong><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Disney/Marvel</span></p><p class="caption">Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) offers a lot of comic relief in the film. The scene above is one of the most gorgeous shots in the movie.</p></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Earlier in July, we saw a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/guardians-of-the-galaxy-preview-reactions-2014-7">screening of 17 minutes</a> from the film. One of the few things we were concerned about was how Groot would be handled since he only has one line of spoken dialogue, "I am Groot." During that screening it felt like we were hearing "I am Groot" every few minutes - something that easily become distracting while watching the film. This isn't a problem throughout the movie at all. We ended up seeing different parts of the movie edited together where Diesel's character happened to say the lines a lot. </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">(In case you're wondering, he says the line approximately 10 times throughout the more than two-hour runtime.)<span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1"><strong>This movie was made for fans</strong><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Disney/Marvel</span></p></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">If you're familiar with the family-friendly Disney brand, its easy to see the Mouse House gave Marvel Studios a lot of leeway in making "Guardians" its own without overstepping the bounds of a PG-13 film. </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">This is good for comic fans who don't want a dumbed-down Disney flick, but questionable for parents who may be looking for a family film that freely uses a bit of raunchier humor. <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">There are definitely a few awkward conversations that could possibly arise. Parents will have to tell kids to not repeat Star-Lord when he flips off a crew.  <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">Pratt later makes a backlight joke referencing how his ship would compare to the likes of a <a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=jackson+pollock&amp;espv=2&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=isch&amp;sa=X&amp;ei=3aTQU9_8LI-MyATd6YLoDA&amp;sqi=2&amp;ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&amp;biw=1562&amp;bih=1178#facrc=0%3Bjackson%20pollock%20famous%20paintings&amp;imgrc=_">Jackson Pollock painting</a>. <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">When we <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/guardians-of-the-galaxy-preview-reactions-2014-7">previewed the film at the start of July</a>, we noted there was a line in the film where Quill additionally referred to someone as a bastard. That appeared to be missing in the final cut.<span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1"><strong>It has a superb soundtrack</strong><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Disney/Marvel</span></p><p class="caption">The music for the film is inspired by the music Chris Pratt's character Star-Lord listens to throughout the film on an old Sony Walkman.</p></div><p></p></div></div></span></strong></p>
<p class="p1"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">I cannot recommend the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_fb_0_29?url=search-alias%3Dpopular&amp;field-keywords=guardians%20of%20the%20galaxy%20soundtrack&amp;sprefix=guardians+of+the+galaxy+sound%2Ctoys-and-games%2C178&amp;rh=i%3Apopular%2Ck%3Aguardians%20of%20the%20galaxy%20soundtrack">tunes from "Guardians of the Galaxy"</a> enough. <span>You'll want to jam to the '70s setlist after you leave the theater.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Music has such a big role in this film from the movie's opening to it's final moment.<span> </span>It served as such a big inspiration on set of the film that director James Gunn often played the soundtrack while the crew was on set along with other '70s tunes. </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">You can check out all of the songs <a href="http://io9.com/you-will-never-stop-listening-to-the-guardians-of-the-g-1599552301">here</a>.</span></p>

<p class="p1">Everyone's been going crazy about some possible <a href="http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney-guardians-of-the-galaxy-cameos-71908/">Howard the Duck reference</a> in the film. Unless there's a comic or image hidden obscurely in the background, we didn't see anything (and there were two of us keeping our eyes out during the screening).</p>
<p class="p1"><strong>The only problems with the film</strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table click-to-enlarge"><div><div class="image"><a title_source="Disney/Marvel" title_caption="If it wasn't for this pesky orb, there wouldn't be a " Guardians="" of="" the="" Galaxy="" film.="" class="zoomin" href="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/53d123316bb3f7f63c7b7fe9-960/guardians-of-the-galaxy-orb.jpg"><span class="sprites click-to-enlarge-icon" title="Click to enlarge"></span></a><p class="source"><span>Disney/Marvel</span></p><p class="caption">If it wasn't for this pesky orb, there wouldn't be a "Guardians of the Galaxy" film.</p></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"Guardians" partially feels like a filler movie necessary </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">to lay the groundwork for Marvel's continuing expanding universe on screen. </span></p>
<p class="p1"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The entire film focuses entirely on one of six power-wielding stones and the different groups of people trying to ascertain it for their own personal gain. While, yes, the movie is certainly about the five Guardians <span>Disney and Marvel have been showing off in trailer after trailer, <span>the film's bigger purpose is presenting the large scope of the Marvel universe and that there's much more at stake and in play than what we have seen with the Avengers up until now.</span></span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Though the film does a good job explaining these powerful gem stones, people will definitely leave the theater looking for more information unless they have a Marvel comic lord beside them in theater. </span></p>
<p class="p1"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Expect to see a lot of explainers about "Guardians of the Galaxy" </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">start to make their way online as the film comes closer to its release or soon afterward.</span></p>
<p class="p1">The only scene that felt slightly jarring was an <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">opening sequence which asks viewers to devote a lot of emotional investment in characters you have just met. It may be a scene that's appreciated more when giving the film a second viewing.</span></p>
<p class="p2"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Overall, "Guardians" is</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> probably the edgiest movie Marvel Studios has put out yet. It's a very enjoyable film during a summer that hasn't produced a lot of must-see blockbusters aside from Fox's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes."</span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">In case you're wondering, yes, there will be an end-credits scene. No, we have not seen it yet. Marvel made the decision to not air in during press screenings ahead of the film's release. In other words, we'll be seeing it along with all of you!<span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
