New Delhi, Shares of <keyword id="46717" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indusind-bank" source="Orion">IndusInd Bank</keyword> climbed nearly 4% on Wednesday morning after the company reported a 30 per cent jump in its consolidated net profit in the April-June quarter. The stock gained 3.81% to hit its 52-week high of ₹1,443.35 on the BSE. At the NSE, it jumped 3.82% to reach its 52-week high of ₹1,443.40. In the equity market, the 30-share <keyword id="53232" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bse-sensex" source="Orion">BSE Sensex</keyword> climbed 321.91 points to reach its new all-time intraday peak of 67,117.05 in morning trade. The <keyword id="372424" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nse-nifty" source="Orion">NSE Nifty</keyword> gained 92.4 points to hit a record intraday high of 19,841.65. IndusInd Bank on Tuesday reported a 30% jump in its consolidated net profit in the April-June quarter at ₹2,124.50 crore, helped by core income growth and lower bad loan provisions. In the reporting quarter, the bank's core net interest income grew 18% to ₹4,867 crore on a 22% increase in advances and a 0.08% expansion in the net interest margin to 4.29%. The other income was up 14% to ₹2,210 crore, while the overall deposits rose 15%. The overall provisions reduced to ₹991 crore -- the best in three years, as compared to ₹1,251 crore in the year-ago period. On the asset quality front, the gross non-performing assets ratio improved to 1.94% , as against 2.35% in the year-ago period and 1.98% in the March quarter. The outperformer The stock has been outperforming the Bank Nifty --- by 14% in the last three months and 24% over one year. According to J M Financial, it's still trading an attractive valuation. "We believe a broad based growth momentum led by positive macros in microfinance industry (MFI) and vehicle finance industry, strong delivery on profitability metrics and healthy asset quality should aid in future stock price performance," the research firm said. A report by Kotak Institutional Equities says that the company is showing lower volatility in a more predictable business environment. "Loan growth is higher than the industry average, with some key portfolios within retail and MFI showing solid traction. Despite a sharp increase in cost of funds, net interest margins NIM (net interest margin) has held up well at around 4.1-4.3%," it said. The stock has been performing well, as its business fundamentals are improving. "However, a re-rating from hereon is likely to be a lot more gradual. With return ratios and growth metrics unlikely to be meaningfully different, the probability of IndusInd Bank to trade at a premium looks unlikely at this stage. In our view, the valuations of large banks are likely to create a possible cap to the banks’ valuations, unless we see a meaningful difference," Kotak added. (With PTI inputs)

IndusInd Bank stock hits 52-week high after a strong Q1 show

Benchmark indices <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> and Sensex recovered from their losses last week to close in greens on Monday. While Sensex inched up over 690 points to close at 79,476.63 points, Nifty closed the day over the 24k mark, at 24,213.30, up by 217 points. During the day, Sensex had soared 740.89 points, or 0.94%, to touch 79,523.13 points. From the 30-share Sensex pack, JSW Steel surged nearly 5% while Tata Steel jumped nearly 4%. Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and UltraTech Cement were also among the big gainers. On the other hand, Tech Mahindra, Lupin, Britannia, and Infosys were among the major laggards on Sensex. On Nifty, where 39 stocks advanced during the day and the remaining 11 saw declines, Tata Steel, Hindalco, and JSW Steel were among the top gainers. Adani Ports, ITC, Bharti Airtel, and Asian Paints were among the leading laggards. In Asian markets, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong settled in the positive territory, while Seoul ended lower. Yesterday, the BSE benchmark tumbled 941.88 points, or 1.18%, to settle at 78,782.24, the lowest closing level since August 6. The Nifty had also tanked 309 points, or 1.27%, to close at 23,995.35. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued with their hefty exodus, offloading equities worth Rs 4,329.79 crore today, according to exchange data. So far in November, DIIs (domestic institutional investors) have put in Rs 2,558.75 crore in Indian markets. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.60% to $75.53 a barrel today. <h2>Banks, metals lead the party</h2> Aditya Gaggar, Director of Progressive Shares, explains that while bears dominated the first half of trading session by dragging the index lower; it was the banking counters that led to a sharp up move and pushed the index higher from its previous session's low. The Metal stocks also joined the party and pushed the index further higher to end the session at 24,213.30 with gains of 217.95 points. Mid and smallcaps also advanced but underperformed the frontline index", he added. Today's rally was largely led by banking scrips. The BSE Bankex jumped a staggering 1,218.58 points during the day. On NSE, both banks and financial services indices inched up by 1.94% and 1.98% respectively during the day. While PSU bank counters were up by 1.84%, private banks surged ahead with a 1.94% growth during the day. Metals were amidst the highest gainers, rising 2.84% during the day. All broad market indices closed the day in green, except for India VIX, which tumbled 4.08%.

Sensex, and Nifty rebound to greens, metals and banks lead the rally on bourses today

In the morning trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex scaled the 85,000 level, jumping 234.62 points or 0.27% to scale a new all-time intra-day peak of 85,163.23. The index, however, hit a low of 84,716.07 in the afternoon session due to profit-taking at record levels. Selling in <keyword id="20002610" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-Unilever" source="keywords">Hindustan Unilever</keyword>, Kotak Mahindra Bank and <keyword id="19900482" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-Bank" source="keywords">ICICI Bank</keyword> dragged the key index from the day's highs. The Nifty eked out gains of 1.35 points or 0.01% to close at a fresh high of 25,940.40. During the day, it climbed 72.5 points or 0.27% to hit a new record intra-day high of 26,011.55. Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services said, "Domestic benchmarks are attempting to sustain new highs, driven by the US Fed's aggressive rate cut. Meanwhile, the Chinese central bank's rate cut, and additional stimulus measures have positively influenced global investor sentiment, resulting in gains for domestic metal stocks." Conversely, FMCG and banking stocks exhibited declines due to profit-booking at higher levels, he said, adding that in the near term, strong inflows from FIIs, driven by the US Fed's dovish outlook and expectations of a rate cut by the RBI in October, are expected to maintain momentum. From the 30 Sensex firms, Hindustan Unilever, UltraTech Cement, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank, Titan, Nestle, Bajaj Finance and Asian Paints were among the biggest laggards. Tata Steel, Power Grid, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra and JSW Steel were among the gainers. The BSE midcap gauge climbed 0.21% while the smallcap index dipped 0.04%. Among the indices, FMCG declined by 0.75%, telecommunication (0.57%), services (0.45%), financial services (0.40%), consumer durables (0.31%) and bankex (0.30%). “Technically, the index is oscillating within a rising channel and is trading near the upper trend line resistance of the channel pattern, which is around the range of 25,900-26,000 levels, making them a strong hurdle in the short term. Therefore, on the upside, 26,000 will act as an immediate hurdle for Nifty. If the index sustains above 26,000 it could test the levels of 26,200. On the downside, 25,600 will serve as strong support for the index,” said Hrishikesh Yedve, AVP Technical and Derivatives Research, Asit C. Mehta Investment Interrmediates. Metal surged 2.78%, power jumped 1.38%, utilities (1.18%), commodities (0.95%) and industrials (0.47%). "Although markets ended on a lacklustre note after a volatile session, key benchmark indices hit new milestones signifying that liquidity flows has remained strong as investors are confident of India's long term growth story," said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd. "Nifty ended on a flat note in a volatile session on Tuesday after crossing 26,000 for the first time. Asian stocks rose on Tuesday to their highest in more than two and half years, heartened by broad stimulus measures from China while expectations for more US rate cuts kept risk sentiment up," Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities, said. In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong settled in the positive territory. Shanghai and Hong Kong markets ended significantly higher. European markets were trading in the green. The US markets ended higher on Monday. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth ₹404.42 crore on Monday, according to exchange data. S&amp;P Global Ratings on Tuesday retained India's growth forecast at 6.8% for the current fiscal and said it expects the RBI to start cutting interest rates in its October monetary policy review. Global oil benchmark Brent crude jumped 2.35% to $75.64 a barrel. Rallying for the third day running on Monday, the BSE benchmark jumped 384.30 points or 0.45% to settle at an all-time high of 84,928.61. Sensex hits 85,000 level but closes flat as FMCG, banking shares drag

Recent <keyword id="20072947" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-fund-inflows" source="keywords">foreign fund inflows</keyword> and lower global <keyword id="20024983" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="crude-oil-prices" source="keywords">crude oil prices</keyword> also strengthened <keyword id="22951128" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="investor-sentiments" source="keywords">investor sentiments</keyword>, traders said. Rising for the tenth straight session, the NSE Nifty went up by 34.60 points or 0.14 per cent to settle at a new closing high of 25,052.35. The benchmark surged 111.85 points or 0.44 per cent to hit a fresh intra-day all-time peak of 25,129.60. Extending its winning run to the seventh day in a row, the 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 73.80 points or 0.09 per cent to settle at 81,785.56. During the day, it jumped 327.5 points or 0.40 per cent to 82,039.26. Falling bond yields in the US have restrained FII selling and they have even turned marginal buyers. Going by previous trends, DIIs are likely to sell if FIIs continue to buy. "This trend will keep the market within a range with a slight upward bias. This is a desirable and healthy trend, given the elevated valuations in the market," V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, said. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 1,503.76 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 604.08 crore. Global oil benchmark Brent crude declined 0.82 per cent to USD 78.90 a barrel. After oscillating between highs and lows, the BSE benchmark eked out a marginal gain of 13.65 points or 0.02 per cent to settle at 81,711.76 on Tuesday. The NSE Nifty ended almost flat, up 7.15 points or 0.03 per cent, at 25,017.75 -- its ninth straight session of gains.

Nifty gains marginally to hit lifetime high

Benchmark indices Sensex and <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> fell for the third day running on Thursday, dragged by continuous selling in <keyword id="19895995" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hdfc-bank" source="keywords">HDFC Bank</keyword> and profit-taking in consumer durables and utility shares. The 30-share <keyword id="19895774" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bse" source="keywords">BSE</keyword> Sensex fell by 313.90 points or 0.44 per cent to settle at 71,186.86. During the day, it tanked 835.26 points or 1.16 per cent to 70,665.50. The Nifty declined 109.70 points or 0.51 per cent to 21,462.25. During the day, it plunged 286.4 points or 1.32 per cent to 21,285.55. The heavy fall in the markets comes on the back of a recent record-breaking rally. The BSE benchmark hit an all-time high of 73,427.59 on Tuesday, and the Nifty also reached its lifetime peak of 22,124.15 the same day. "The benchmark indices exhibited recovery from the day’s low and ended in red amid weak global cues, as investors are trimming bets on rapid FED cuts due to strong US retail sales and the resulting rise in global bond yields. Furthermore, oil price advances and rate escalation risks have led to disruptions in global shipping and crude production. The broader market continued its selling pressure given the elevated valuation and profit booking with an aim for sector rotation," said <keyword id="19969359" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vinod-nair" source="keywords">Vinod Nair</keyword>, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services. HDFC Bank fell over 3 per cent, extending its previous days' huge fall, after the company's December quarter earnings failed to impress investors. The private lender alone contributed 305 points to the fall. “While markets suffered losses for the third consecutive session, key indices pared losses in the second half amid recovery in European and select Asian indices. Investors will be more watchful about the ongoing earnings season as any stress on quarterly numbers could dampen the sentiment in the near term. Nifty 50 goes below 17,000-mark on rising Omicron cases, fear of lockdown

On November 12, the <keyword id="6354335" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="Orion">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (RBI) <a href="https://www.rbiretaildirect.org.in/">opened up a portal</a> through which small investors can directly buy government bonds. Since then, the Nifty Bank, the index of banking stocks, on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) has lost nearly 7% of its value. One could argue that a larger sell-off in Indian stocks is at play but banks have been the worst hit among all sectoral indices. Three straight weekly declines in the stocks of some of the country’s biggest lenders ⁠has led to huge wealth erosion. Private banking giants like ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and the government-owned State Bank of India (SBI) are some of the most common names in mutual fund portfolios. Aside from the compulsions of the traders who rely on signals on the charts alone, there are some fundamental fears at play too. As it stands today, retail investors can get better long-term returns as well as a wider protection by directly investing in government bonds compared to fixed deposits at banks. Bank deposits are insured by the government up to an amount of ₹5 lakh whereas the entire amount invested in government bonds are guaranteed by the sovereign. And, the returns are relatively exciting too. The returns on some small savings schemes ⁠— some of the long-term ones even offer tax incentives ⁠— offered by the government had already outpaced bank rates. Direct investments, unlike going via debt funds, can reduce expense ratios. </td></tr></tbody></table> No wonder, reports suggest that big ticket investors like <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/bonds/retail-bond-scheme-draws-strong-interest-from-nris/articleshow/87838650.cms">non-resident Indians</a> are getting wooed by the latest option of directly investing in government securities, which come with higher returns (compared to other fixed income products), a certainty in cash flow and without costs and commissions, and sovereign guarantee for the entire capital. The process may be a bit cumbersome for those without adequate patience for the infamous interfaces of India’s government websites. If the banks have to compete for deposits, the cost of funds will rise and eat into the profit margin. But that’s not the entire story For India’s banks, credit growth has improved but it is still far from the desired pace. Large corporations have still not ramped up investments and, therefore, borrowings have been tepid. This caps the lender’s ability to increase lending rates to cover the cost. Bank loans to industry at the end of September were lesser compared to six months earlier, according to RBI data. Most of India’s large companies and conglomerates are still in the process of repaying old loans and strengthening their balance sheets. Meanwhile, the growth in deposits moderated marginally to 10.1% in the 12 months to September, compared to 11% a year ago. These are a few points to consider for individual investors, including non-resident Indians, who are considering direct investments into India’s government bonds: Not all government securities are liquid. According to market watchers, only about 15 out of the 90 bonds available in the market are traded actively. The market is, currently, dominated by banks and institutional investors. Buying directly will be far easier than selling (before maturity) for smaller lots. After three years of holding, the return on investment in government securities via debt mutual funds is eligible for indexation (adjusting the cost to include impact of inflation) benefit while calculating capital gains. Direct investments are not eligible for the same. However, debt funds come with expenses which direct investments are free of. The money invested in these bonds now may lose its sheen once the interest rates start rising. Analysts at Goldman Sachs expect RBI to hike interest rates by 75 basis points in 2022. However, for now, there is enough headroom before the bank rates come at par with the bond yields. Banks in India may have to fight harder for deposits

India's key equity indices extended their rally from the previous session and traded sharply higher during the early session on Thursday. A substantial fall in global crude oil prices seems to have fueled fresh optimism amongst investors. Global crude is currently trading at $113 per barrel against over $130 recorded earlier this week which was more than a decade high. "The extreme volatility in markets is reflected by the $30 drop in crude and 3 per cent spike in Nasdaq. Such massive ups and downs are the consequences of high levels of uncertainty and sharply fluctuating market expectations," said V.K. Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services. "High quality financials present good buying opportunities now. The downside risk is limited." At 10.04 a.m., <keyword id="6484188" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex" source="Orion">Sensex</keyword> traded 2.3 per cent or 1,251 points up at 55,898 points, whereas Nifty 2.2 per cent or 361 points up at 16,706 points. Indices extend sharp gains; Sensex up over 1,300 points

The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) rate setting panel decided to keep its key policy rates unchanged in its October meeting. Even as the pause was much expected by the markets, Sensex and Nifty gained 364 points and 107 points respectively. Most Nifty indices closed in the green with the exception of Nifty Media. But the best performers of the session were the usual suspects – real estate stocks. Nifty Realty rose by 3%, with eight of its constituents closing in the green. <keyword id="6362997" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dlf" source="Orion">DLF</keyword>, <keyword id="19040981" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="godrej-properties-and-lodha-developers" source="Orion">Godrej Properties and Lodha Developers</keyword> gained 4% during the session. “Realty shares hogged the limelight after taking the hammering in recent trades amid hopes that no change in interest rates may boost home sales, especially during the festive season,” said Amol Athawale, VP of technical research at Kotak Securities. The Asian market performance too added to the euphoria in the markets. US equities however were weighed down this week as the 10-year US Treasury yield hit a 16-year high this week. Experts also believe that Nifty could hold on to these levels going forward and will be guided by the earnings season which starts next week. Positive sentiment to continue Nifty took support near 19,350 and bounced back sharply in the last two trading sessions. Nifty recouped all of the losses seen earlier this week on the back of firm global cues. Sentiments got a lift after US Treasury yields retreated and as oil prices plummeted, said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities. “Currently, the index is trading near the 50-day SMA (Simple Moving Average), and on weekly charts it has formed a Hammer kind of formation which is largely positive. As long as the index is trading above the 50-day SMA or 19575 level the positive sentiment is likely to continue,” added Athawale. The Nifty Bank index fell by 0.5% this week due to sell-offs in banking stocks.
