New Delhi, No contact of coronavirus patients detected with UK strain has tested <keyword id="6439681" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="positive">positive</keyword> in a surveillance drive undertaken by the <keyword id="6354952" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Government">Delhi government</keyword>, <keyword id="6354750" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="health">Health</keyword> Minister Satyendar Jain said on Thursday. Jain told IANS that all contacts of Covid-19 patients infected with the mutant strain of novel coronavirus had been tested by the <keyword id="26362" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Government">government</keyword> but none was found infected. "We have tested all contacts of the patients with UK strain infection. Noone has been found infected, apart from those 38 admitted in the LNJP," he said. IANS had reported that the number of persons suspected to be infected with the new strain had risen to 38 in Delhi after three more persons, including returnees from the UK and a contact, were found corona positive during a surveillance drive on Wednesday. All 38 patients are kept in isolation at the Lok Nayak Jaiprakash (LNJP) Hospital. Of them, 17 are UK returnees while remaining are their contacts. "All the patients found infected with the new variant have been isolated in different rooms of a special ward designated for suspected patients or those found infected with the new variant," Dr Suresh Kumar, Medical Director of Delhi government-run hospital had said. Besides, the AAP government has quarantined around 200 people, who either returned from the UK within a month or are in contact with those travellers found positive, at two facilities in Aerocity and Chattarpur. The UT government has found over 14,000 passengers who arrived at the <keyword id="89772" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi-International-Airport">Indira Gandhi International Airport</keyword> (IGIA) since November 25. Of them, around 4,000 were found to be residing in Delhi. The Delhi government has designated 2,000-bed LNJP as the nodal centre for isolation of persons suspected to carry the new variant of Covid-19. Meanwhile, the Centre said on Thursday that five more cases of mutant coronavirus strain from the UK have been detected in the country, taking the total tally of such cases to 25, based on genome sequencing of positive samples released by the Indian Sars-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) labs. The samples have so far been sequenced in seven of the 10 designated labs across the country, with seven samples testing positive in NIMHANS, Bengaluru; two in CCMB, Hyderabad; five in NIV, Pune; eight in NCDC, Delhi; two in IGIB, Delhi and one in NIBG, Kalyani (West Bengal). No contacts of UK returnees in Delhi with new variant of COVID-19 have tested positive so far

The consortium led by <keyword id="10069465" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="murari-lal-jalan">Murari Lal Jalan</keyword> and Kalrock Capital on Monday said that it plans to operationalise <keyword id="6358200" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="jet-airways">Jet Airways</keyword> by the summer of 2021, subject to certain conditions. Accordingly, the consortium has announced the revival of Jet Airways as a full-service carrier. "The Jet 2.0 programme is aimed at reviving the past glory of Jet Airways, with a fresh set of processes and systems to ensure greater efficiency and productivity across all routes," the consortium said in a statement. As per the resolution plan, Jet Airways intends to operate all of its historic domestic slots in India and restart international operations. "If everything goes as per plan and the consortium receives the NCLT and regulatory approvals on time, Jet Airways will be back in the skies by the Summer of 2021," the statement said. According to the statement, consortium's vision is to regain the lost ground, set new benchmarks for the airline industry with the tag of being the best corporate full-service airline operating on domestic and international routes. "The Jet 2.0 hubs will remain Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru like before. The revival plan proposes to support Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities by creating sub-hubs in such cities," the statement said. Jet Airways could resume operations by summer of 2021

Delhi woke up to a grey morning as an apocalyptic smog blotted out the sun from the sky and smudged landmarks from view with air quality inching closer to "emergency" levels on Tuesday. Air quality monitoring stations at Mandir Marg, Punjabi Bagh, Pusa, Rohini, Patparganj, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Najafgarh, Sri Aurobindo Marg and Okhla Phase 2 maxed out - as air quality indexes hit the 500 mark, <keyword id="67999" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Pollution-Control-Board">Central Pollution Control Board</keyword> data showed. The smog reduced the visibility to merely 300 meters in the morning affecting traffic, an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Delhi recorded an AQI of 487 at 9 am, which falls in the "severe" category. The neighbouring cities of Faridabad (474), Ghaziabad (476), Noida (490), Greater Noida (467), and Gurugram (469) also recorded "severe" air quality. This is the sixth "severe" air day on the trot in Delhi. The city witnessed seven "severe" air days in November last year. The levels of PM2.5 - finer particles which can even enter the bloodstream - in Delhi-NCR were 605 g/m3 at 8 am - around ten times the safe limit of 60 g/m3. PM10 levels stood at 777 microgram per cubic meter (g/m3) at 8 am, the highest since November June 14, 2018, when it surged to 847 g/m3, according to CPCB data. PM10 levels below 100 g/m3 are considered safe in India. If PM2.5 and PM10 levels are more than 300 g/m3 and 500 g/m3 for over 48 hours, emergency measures such ban on construction activities, entry of trucks and car rationing scheme can be implemented under the Graded Response Action Plan for Delhi-NCR notified by the Ministry of Environment and Forests in 2017. Government agencies and experts said calm wind speeds were exacerbating the effect of stubble burning and a "quick recovery" is not possible unless the number of farm fires reduces drastically. V K Soni, the head of the IMD's environment research centre, said a major improvement in Delhi-NCR's air quality was highly unlikely in the coming days. "The air quality is likely to be recorded in the upper end of the ''very poor'' category on Diwali if we discount firecrackers emissions. The Ministry of Earth Sciences' air quality monitor, SAFAR, said, "Low dispersion condition continues in Delhi along with high fire-related intrusion. SAFAR said the share of stubble burning in Delhi's PM2.5 pollution was 38 percent on Monday. According to the IMD, Delhi recorded calm winds and a minimum temperature of 10.8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning. Calm winds and low temperatures trap pollutants close to the ground, while favourable wind speed helps in their dispersion. There was moderate fog in the morning which led to smog. It reduced visibility to 300 meters at the Safdarjung and Palam weather stations, an IMD official said. The newly-constituted Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas on Monday stressed the need to enforce existing laws, directions and SOPs to minimise air pollution on an emergency basis. It is expected to review the situation on Tuesday. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said action will be taken against those not complying with the ban on firecrackers under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act which included a jail term of up to six years. Delhi International Airport emerges as world's second safest airport amid coronavirus pandemic

A total of 39.43 lakh domestic passengers travelled by air in September this year, 66 per cent lower than the corresponding period last year, the country's <keyword id="4332112" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="aviation-regulator-DGCA">aviation regulator DGCA</keyword> said on Wednesday. As many as 21.07 lakh and 28.32 lakh people travelled by air domestically this July and August, respectively, the regulator had said last month. While IndiGo carried 22.66 lakh passengers in September, a 57.5 per cent share of the total domestic market, SpiceJet flew 5.3 lakh passengers, which is 13.4 per cent share of the total market, according to data shared by the DGCA. Air India, AirAsia India, Vistara and GoAir carried 3.72 lakh, 2.35 lakh, 2.58 lakh and 2.64 lakh passengers respectively in September, the data showed. The occupancy rate or load factor of six major Indian airlines was between 57 and 73 per cent in September, it said Wednesday. "The <keyword id="988705" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="passenger-load-factor">passenger load factor</keyword> in the month of September 2020 has shown some recovery due to increased demand after the opening of lockdown," said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The occupancy rate in SpiceJet was 73 per cent in September, the regulator noted. Meanwhile, the occupancy rate for other major airlines Vistara, IndiGo, AirAsia India, Air India and GoAir stood at 66.7 per cent, 65.4 per cent, 58.4 per cent, 57.9 per cent and 57.6 per cent, respectively, according to the DGCA. India resumed domestic passenger flights on May 25 after a gap of two months due to the coronavirus pandemic. Indian airlines are allowed to operate a maximum of 60 per cent of their pre-COVID-19 domestic flights. A total of 19.84 lakh passengers travelled domestically in June this year. Between May 25 and May 31, 2.81 lakh air passengers had travelled domestically, the DGCA noted. The DGCA data mentioned that in September, AirAsia India had the best on-time performance of 98.4 per cent at four metro airports -- Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. IndiGo and Vistara were at number two and three at these four airports in September with 98.2 per cent and 95.5 per cent on-time performance, respectively, the regulator said. The aviation sector has been significantly impacted due to the travel restrictions imposed in India and other countries in view of the coronavirus pandemic. All airlines in India have taken cost-cutting measures such as pay cuts, leave without pay and firing of employees in order to tide over the crisis. SpiceJet to operate flights to London from December 4

Operations at the Terminal-2 of the <keyword id="89772" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi-International-Airport">Indira Gandhi International Airport</keyword> here will recommence from October 1 after a gap of around six months. Till now, only T-3 at the IGIA was operational for passenger travel. "The resumption of operations at T-2 will be with 96 air traffic movements (48 departures and 48 arrivals) per day and increase progressively up to 180 by the end of October," Delhi International Airport (DIAL) said in a statement. "The terminal will resume operations with IndiGo's 2000 series flights and entire operations of GoAir in the initial phase. About 27 counters - 11 for GoAir and 16 for IndiGo - have been created to cater to the passengers of respective flights." According to DIAL, the first flight scheduled from T-2 after reopening will be of Srinagar-bound Indigo aircraft that will depart at 6.25 am. "To start with, all IndiGo flights with series 2000 (6E 2000 - 6E 2999) will operate from T-2," the statement said. "These will cater to 20 destinations from T-2, including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Bengaluru, Cochin, Guwahati, Indore, Jammu, Lucknow, Chennai, Patna, Srinagar, Trivandrum, and Visakhapatnam among others." In the next phase, from October 8, flights to 12 more destinations, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Goa, Hyderabad, Madurai, Jaipur, and Nagpur, will start operating from T-2, DIAL said. Delhi Airport's Terminal-2 to resume operations from October 1

Vistara operated its first long-haul flight from Delhi to London on Friday using its newly inducted Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, the airline said here. The full-service carrier is scheduled to operate special thrice-weekly flights from August 28 to October 24 between the two cities, it said in a statement. These special flights are being operated under a bilateral 'air bubble' pact signed between India and the UK amid the coronavirus-related travel restrictions. The flight on Friday departed from Delhi at 2.15 am and landed in London at 6.55 am (local time). Vistara said on August 18 that it was seeking necessary regulatory approvals to operate similar special flights to Paris in France and Frankfurt in Germany. The airline has a fleet of 43 aircraft, including 34 Airbus A320s, one Airbus A321neo, six Boeing 737-800NGs and two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. While it received its first Dreamliner aircraft in February, the second one was received earlier this month. Scheduled international passenger flights continue to remain suspended in India since March 23 due to the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> pandemic. However, special international flights have been operating under the Vande Bharat Mission and various bilateral air bubble pacts. Since July, India has established such air bubbles with countries like the US, the UK, France, Germany, the UAE, Qatar and the Maldives. Vistara operates its first long-haul flight from Delhi to London

The DGCA has started a <keyword id="9791572" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="special-safety-audit">special safety audit</keyword> of all Indian airlines, around two weeks after the plane crash in Kerala's Kozhikode in which 18 people were killed, a senior official of the aviation regulator said on Thursday. "It will be a complete FOQA (<keyword id="7878913" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flight-operations-quality-assurance">Flight Operations Quality Assurance</keyword>) audit," he said. The FOQA is the process of obtaining and analysing all kinds of data from flights to improve the safety and efficiency of future flight operations. "All Indian airlines will undergo the special safety audit that has begun. In the first phase, we are auditing SpiceJet and Air India," the DGCA official said. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has already initiated the special safety audit of all airports in India that receive heavy rain during the monsoon season, another official said. The announcement regarding the safety audit of such airports was done by the DGCA four days after the Kozhikode plane crash. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) manages more than 100 airports in the country, including the one in Kozhikode. However, major airports like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are managed by private companies. On August 7, a B737NG aircraft of Air India Express with 190 people on board overshot the runway and crashed at the Kozhikode airport amid heavy rain, killing 18 people, including the pilots. Air India Express is a wholly owned subsidiary of national carrier Air India. The two leading pilot unions of Air India on August 13 had sought a meeting with Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to discuss matters related to working conditions and flight safety. "Our pilots are constantly facing the challenges of COVID-19, monsoon weather, ill-designed flight duty time limitations (FDTL), several extensions and dispensations given by the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation)," stated the August 13 letter written to Puri by the Indian Commercial Pilots' Association (ICPA) and Indian Pilots' Guild (IPG). Scheduled international passenger flights continue to remain suspended in India since March 23 amid the coronavirus pandemic. However, special repatriation flights and international charter flights have been permitted by the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Moreover, since July, India has formed separate bilateral air bubbles with countries like the US, the UAE, France and Germany under which airlines of both the countries are allowed to operate international flights with certain restrictions. Since August 8, a total of five categories of passengers are exempted from mandatory seven-day institutional quarantine -- pregnant women; those who have suffered death in the family; those suffering from serious illness; parents accompanying children below 10 years of age; those who have COVID-negative certificate from a test done 96 hours prior to the journey. The aviation sector has been significantly impacted due to the travel restrictions imposed in India and other countries in view of the coronavirus pandemic. All airlines in India have taken cost-cutting measures such as pay cuts, leave-without-pay and firings of employees in order to conserve cash. India resumed domestic passenger flights from May 25 after a gap of two months due to the coronavirus pandemic. The airlines have been allowed to operate only a maximum of 45 per cent of their pre-COVID domestic flights. However, the occupancy rate in Indian domestic flights has been around just 50-60 per cent since May 25. Delhi airport likely to have COVID-19 testing facility for international arrivals

Unscheduled transit flights cannot land for specific hours at Delhi airport on Aug 15

The residents of the national capital woke up to heavy rains and rumbling of thunder on Sunday morning. The rains brought the mercury down by several notches. Waterlogging in low-lying areas and roads is likely to affect traffic movement, <keyword id="3573341" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-India-Meteorological-Department">the India Meteorological Department</keyword> (IMD) said in a forecast for Delhi-NCR issued at 6:30 am. Till 5:30 am, the Safdarjung Observatory, which provides representative figures for the city, recorded 4.9 mm rainfall. The <keyword id="9602090" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="palam-weather-station">Palam weather station</keyword> gauged 3.8 mm precipitation. <keyword id="2737161" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kuldeep-Srivastava">Kuldeep Srivastava</keyword>, head of the IMD's regional forecasting centre, said, "Moderate to isolated heavy rains were witnessed in parts of Delhi-NCR." Earlier, the IMD had predicted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of northwest India. It had said the "entire monsoon trough is most likely to shift northwards, closer to the foothills of the Himalayas during July 19-20". Despite the early arrival of monsoon in Delhi, the rains have remained subdued. According to the IMD, the Safdarjung Observatory has recorded 47.9 mm rainfall in July so far, which is 56 per cent less than the normal of 109.4 mm. Palam and Lodhi Road weather stations have recorded 38 and 49 per cent less rains in July. Srivastava said the fresh spell of rains will reduce the deficit to some extent.
