Following the polls, it formed an alliance with Shiv Sena which had secured 63 seats. The two parties formed the coalition government with a thumping majority. Devendra Fadnavis of BJP became the Chief Minister. In 2009 assembly elections, the INC (Indian National Congress) had secured 82 seats and the the National Congress Party (NCP) won from 62 seats. Together, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got 46 and the Shiv Sena won from 44 seats. From different constituencies 24 independent contestants won. Ashok Chavan who won from the Bhokar seat became the Chief Minister representing the Congress.
