It is likely to include them under the definition of virtual digital assets (VDA) like Bitcoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies. A report by <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/economy-policy/centre-likely-to-lift-veil-on-taxing-nft-as-virtual-digital-asset-122053000066_1.html">Business Standard</a> quoting unnamed sources states that the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is working on guidelines in this regard. This is to essentially remove any ambiguity about NFTs, which will make it clearer for both tax assessees as well as the tax department to compute and levy taxes. It is worth noting that the first due date of advance tax payment is inching close – the first instalment falls due on June 15. Assessees are required to estimate their tax liability for the year and then pay 15% of it by June 15. “There are several key issues requiring clarity on the definition of virtual assets and their implementation. For context, the Indian government introduced a 1% TDS in its annual budget in February this year, stating that the goal was to track crypto transactions. However, industry players have criticised this move, saying that this will make the crypto market illiquid. Alternatively, industry players have suggested a 0.01% TDS as this would achieve the goal of tracking crypto transactions without levying an indirect penalty on day traders and crypto investors. According to the government’s announcement, a 1% TDS is chargeable on each crypto transaction, which makes day trading in crypto rather difficult. Even though globally women have worked as engineers or developers in the industry, they are less entrepreneurial, says the report. NFTs that were bought using fiat money have been less affected by the market crash. If the NFTs do not provide lasting use cases for customers, they are unlikely to be popular. ‘83’ – a film that starred Ranveer Singh – in January sold all its digital collectibles within an hour of launch on ‘Social Swag,’ a platform for customers to learn directly from celebrities and not an NFT platform. Actor Salman Khan released ‘Chill Bull NFT collection’ in July – based on his 2019 movie ‘Dabbang 3’ – through <a href="https://www.bollycoin.com">Bollycoin</a>, the star’s NFT platform. However the utilities of these NFTs remain nil with no reference to them on the official <a href="https://market.bollycoin.com/assets/0xF298fEA19b400F20c61194e95aEB2421B3C12796/102">website</a>. Business Insider had not heard back from Bollycoin at the time of publishing. “Art should always be backed by lasting utility. Often celebrities launch their NFTs and go radio silent. But if an NFT buyer wants to sell the NFT of a Bollywood digital avatar, would they be able to do so? They should have an active NFT community,” said Sandesh Suvarna, vice president, WazirX NFT marketplace. Vishal Malhotra, creator of Asia’s first NFT-funded film ‘Ilm,’ meaning knowledge; and also the first actor to launch his NFT in India, did just that. “Ilm-the world’s first NFT-funded film has been certified by the Censor Board of India. The actress took the lead among Indian actors to secure their digital assets when she broke the news about her association with NFT, two months back. I am beyond excited about the hype behind my collection and the support from the community. In many ways, I am myself a misfit so there wasn't anything that's more appropriate than this collection." "What's interesting is that it also helps me connect with people who buy the collection. In a first for Indian actors, Vishal Malhotra sells NFT for $5500

The global number of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) transactions is likely to rise from 24 million in 2022 to 40 million by 2027, a new report said on Monday, cautioning the vendors about unregulated environment which is home to fraudulent activities and scams. The report by <keyword id="708241" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="juniper-research" source="Orion">Juniper Research</keyword> stressed that vendors who partake in the <keyword id="4668945" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="nft" source="Orion">NFT</keyword> space may risk brand damage by association, due to the role NFTs have had in illegal activities, such as money laundering, scams and fraud. "Environmental issues were also raised as a major concern, with the current way transactions are facilitated on the <keyword id="6355684" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="blockchain" source="Orion">blockchain</keyword> creating massive energy usage," said the report. The report said that metaverse-linked NFTs will be the fastest-growing NFT segment over the next five years, increasing from 600,000 transactions in 2022 to 9.8 million by 2027. It highlighted rising demand for immersive experiences as a driver of <keyword id="11121339" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="metaverse" source="Orion">metaverse</keyword> adoption. To capitalise on this growth, the report urged consumer-facing businesses to create NFT-based content to meet changing demands from a younger, tech-savvy demographic, who are more ready to purchase novel forms of online and digital content. An NFT is a unique token that exists on the blockchain, meaning it cannot be replicated. This unique token could represent real-world items like artworks or music, with the ability to be traded with a transparent transaction history. The report emphasised the need for regulators to work with industry bodies to standardise processes with reduced environmental impact and built-in consumer protections to enable vendors to utilise NFTs as a medium to further engage with consumers.
