New Delhi [India], August 4 (ANI): India's <keyword id="21307504" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="outbound-tourism" source="keywords">outbound tourism</keyword> market is expected to reach USD 18817.72 million (USD 18.81 billion) in 2024 and grow at a <keyword id="20256055" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CAGR" source="keywords">CAGR</keyword> of 11.4 per cent in the decade between 2024 and 2034 to reach approximately USD 55388.41 million (USD 55.38 billion), highlighted a FICCI-Nangia knowledge paper. The paper titled '<keyword id="22661864" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Navigating-Horizons" source="Orion">Navigating Horizons</keyword>: <keyword id="22661865" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Rise-and-Future-of-Indian-Outbound-Tourism" source="Orion">The Rise and Future of Indian Outbound Tourism</keyword>', released during the '3rd Outbound Tourism Summit' here in the FICCI office earlier this week, asserted that few emerging markets and opportunities for outbound <keyword id="19916662" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="travel" source="keywords">travel</keyword> include various Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern, African and Eastern European countries. India's online travel market, which consists of sales of travel services through online channels, is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.5 per cent between 2024-29, from USD 17.24 billion to USD 28.40 billion. International travel has thus been eased by the steady growth in affordable technology, states the paper. It further states that the government administration and the tourism industry stakeholders in India may undertake various strategic interventions to promote the outbound tourism market. These include bilateral engagement; improved connectivity; support to travel industry stakeholders; marketing of international destinations; curated packages; and hospitality partnerships, among others. Speaking at the launch of the report, Mary M Mutuku, Deputy High Commissioner of Kenya to India said that Kenya is not only committed to deepen the relations between India and Kenya but also promoting Kenya as a preferred tourist destination. "Currently, the India market is among the top 5 Kenya's key sources of tourists, and this has the potential to grow even further," she said in her brief address. To attract more <keyword id="110519" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-tourists" source="Orion">Indian tourists</keyword> to Kenya, Mutuku stated that Kenya has put in place the necessary infrastructure to ease travel in the country. "With an increase in the number of flights between the two countries along with the opening of the Nairobi Expressway, tourists will have more convenience traveling in Kenya. A new cruise terminal at Mombasa port is a major boost to cruise tourism. The berth targets to enhance passenger handling capacity as well as allow for an increased volume of cruise ships arrival at the port," she added. Seitenov Darkhan, Deputy Ambassador, Embassy of Kazakhstan to India had said, "We have huge potential for mutual and beneficial cooperation in the tourism sector. There has been significant growth in the number of tourists coming to Kazakhstan from India which is also due to offering 14 days visa-free regime for Indian tourists along with an increase in a number of direct flights." While highlighting the investment potential for Indian industry, Darkhan further said that in order to meet the needs of Indian tourists in Kazakhstan, it would be advisable to consider building a network of Indian hotels and restaurants in the major cities in Kazakhstan. "We invite major Indian investors to participate in implementing these initiatives in our country," he added. Geshan Dissanayake, Minister Commercial, High Commission of Sri Lanka in India said, "The strong shared heritage between India and Lanka forms the bedrock of our bilateral relationship. India alone stands out as a key source market for Sri Lanka. The integration of the Indian UPI payment system with 'LankaPay' has made simplified payment options for Indian tourists visiting Sri Lanka," he added. Dissanayake further stated that to fully realize the potential of outbound tourism there is a need to focus on marketing and promotion of various offerings by Sri Lanka; infrastructure development; promoting sustainable tourism and further streamlining the visa process. Demographic boost, government support, increased connectivity, and niche segment growth are powering India's outbound travel boom," he added. It has also launched a new hotel brand called ‘SeleQtions’ to up its brand image. SeleQtions includes named and distinctive hotels as well as Chambers — India’s most iconic business club. Indian hotel companies have shown resilience during the pandemic and now the markets are celebrating them

New Delhi, Dec 11 () <keyword id="9738461" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="passenger-vehicle-wholesales">Passenger vehicle wholesales</keyword> in India increased by 12.73 per cent to 2,85,367 units in November as against 2,53,139 units in the same month last year riding on the back of festive demand, <keyword id="10116109" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto-industry-body-siam">auto industry body SIAM</keyword> said on Friday. According to the latest data by <keyword id="8927894" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-society-of-indian-automobile-manufacturers">the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers</keyword> (SIAM), two-wheeler sales rose 13.43 per cent to 16,00,379 units, compared with 14,10,939 units in the same month last year. <keyword id="440917" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="motorcycle-sales">Motorcycle sales</keyword> were at 10,26,705 units as against 8,93,538 units in November 2019, up 14.9 per cent. Scooter sales were also up by 9.29 per cent at 5,02,561 units from 4,59,851 units in the same month last year. Three-wheeler sales, however, declined by 57.64 per cent to 23,626 units last month as against 55,778 units in November 2019. "We have witnessed an increase in wholesale numbers in the month of November, where passenger vehicles grew by 12.73 per cent and two-wheelers by 13.43 per cent over the corresponding month of last year, primarily on account of the festive season," SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said. The retail sales of two-wheelers lag behind the wholesale sales numbers but would even out over a period, as original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) engage with their dealers, he added. "While the festive season brought back some fervor in specific segments, the overall economic scenario would determine the industry's performance going forward," Menon noted. The much-awaited <keyword id="128682" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Netflix" source="Orion">Netflix</keyword> docu-series, 'The Romantics', is a celebration of the legacy of Yash Chopra and its cultural impact on Indians over the past 50 years. It is set to release this Tuesday. Remo Kaser, Director of Sales Jungfrau Railways, Switzerland, said: "The legend, Yash Chopra, has presented the beauty of Switzerland and especially the Jungfrau Region to Indians across the world for generations, through his beautiful, soulful cinema." "Indians, who come to Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe year on year, have always spoken to us about how the romantic films of Yash Chopra have pushed them to visit the Jungfrau Region and Interlaken and make memories for a lifetime." The Swiss authorities will celebrate Yash Chopra's legacy across the country, especially in places where the filmmaker shot mega-hits like Darr and Chandni. His son Aditya Chopra also shot the all-time blockbuster, 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' in Switzerland. Every Indian has been enchanted by Switzerland's snow-capped mountains, lush valleys, and pristine lakes in large part because of Yash Chopra's films. It is said that he visited Switzerland for his honeymoon and was smitten by the country instantly. The Swiss government has continuously honoured the legendary filmmaker through the years. In 2011, Switzerland's Jungfrau Railways inaugurated a train named after him - an honour shared only with the railway's founder, Adolf Guyer. The train featured his signature and name on a signboard. In May 2016, a bronze statue of Yash Chopra was installed by the Switzerland government as a tribute, near the Congress Centre in Interlaken, a popular tourist spot. At the prestigious Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel &amp; Spa, a special deluxe cinema-themed suite is named after Yash Chopra. In 2011, the filmmaker inaugurated the suite. Lake Lauenen, in the Canton of Berne, is referred to as Lake Chopra! The Swiss government honoured Yash Chopra with the title of Ambassador of Interlaken, making him the first recipient of the award. He was also bestowed the Swiss Ambassador's Award. Remo added: "Switzerland and India have a great bond of mutual respect and admiration and Yash Chopra has played a monumental role in solidifying the relationship between our great nations. Switzerland is only too proud to celebrate his legacy here." The Romantics has been directed by Oscar &amp; Emmy-nominated film-maker Smriti Mundhra. Netflix, in this four-part docu-series, will feature 35 leading personalities from the film industry, who have closely worked with YRF through its 50-year glorious existence. Interestingly, the reclusive head of the iconic <keyword id="36603" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="yash-raj-films" source="Orion">Yash Raj Films</keyword>, Aditya Chopra, has also recorded his first on-camera interview for 'The Romantics'.

But it’s also competing head-on with almost every other business in the e-commerce space. In the last one month, the company has entered two new major segments – hotel booking and food delivery. On January 30, Paytm announced the acquisition of <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/paytm-enters-hotel-booking-business-buys-nightstay/articleshow/67748857.cms">NightStay</a>, a four-year platform which helps users book hotel rooms and offers last minute deals. While MakeMyTrip and Oyo Rooms have been dominating the <keyword id="864750" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hotel-bookings">hotel bookings</keyword> space, the recent acquisition of NightStay will help Paytm become a one-stop shop for its over 230 million users and the potential ones. Paytm already competes with MakeMyTrip in offering flight and train tickets. Chalet Hotels, which runs the premier hotels – Marriot, Hyatt and Novotel in India, saw its profits jump three times to ₹42 crore in the quarter ended March 31. With the hospitality, travel and tourism industry being severely impacted due to the coronavirus pandemic, almost all of India’s listed hotels have seen their share price tumble since February. “It is well known that the hospitality and tourism industry is the worst affected by the outbreak of COVID19 (coronavirus). Sanjay Sethi, MD &amp; CEO, Chalet Hotels while announcing initiatives like sanitized stay, deferred hotel construction said they will help in the near mid-term revival. “With the new regulations to open up the economy we are gearing‐up our portfolio for a quick scale up and eagerly waiting to welcome our guests,” said Sanjay Sethi, MD &amp; CEO, Chalet Hotels. However, the optimism of the hotel industry still faces a challenge – whether travel will actually resume anytime soon. With work from home and video conferencing being the new norm, business travel could be impacted. “Leisure demand will likely be the first to bounce back. Domestic corporate travel will depend on the economy,” said a recent report by STR realty. OYO Hotels &amp; Homes, FabHotels have all launched a spree of initiatives for sanitized and clean hotels to bring in consumers. “It has been a long wait, but we’re delighted to welcome our guests once again to our select hotels across India. &#xa0;Come April 2017, India’s dream of ‘One Nation, One Tax’ would become a reality. With GST becoming operational, all kinds of goods and services will have to pay single tax instead of several service taxes they have to pay today. In keeping with the structure of India, GST will be levied concurrently by the Centre and the states. 
 
It is being expected that GST will be kept at less than 19%, however, a final decision is yet to be reached. While most commoners feel relieved by this as they won’t have to calculate so many taxes, the travellers in the country might be adversely affected. This is because the travel industry in India is growing at an accelerated pace, and at this time, levying a GST higher than the current <keyword id="6355686" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Service-tax">Service Tax</keyword> would paralyse the sector. 
 <keyword id="3694039" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="amit-kishore">Amit Kishore</keyword>, co-founder, Think Strawberries, a pioneer in Global Travel Products in the Indian market, told <keyword id="824043" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Business-Insider">Business Insider</keyword>, “It’s (GST) an unknown commodity at the moment. We don’t know what the exact number would be. In normal case of GST, it is around 18-19%. But when it comes to the tourism industry, the centre has to be concessional otherwise the whole purpose of GST would be defeated. It will in fact defeat the whole purpose of promoting tourism.” 
 
“The government needs to be very realistic with the figure. There are several complex components that have to be considered in this case. But it will have to be in the single digit. Right now we have a service tax component in travel industry, which is fixed below 5%. The hotel side is different. I am just talking about the package side. Who do you pay? GST has to be paid at source. But in travel package sale, there are so many sources. Since the govt seems to be pro tourism, they will hopefully understand,” he said. 
 For example, countries which made GST operational much before anyone else like France, Italy and <keyword id="103" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Switzerland">Switzerland</keyword> have tourism tax slabs of 5.5 %, 10 % and 3.6 % respectively compared to the standard GST rates of 19.6 %, 20 % and 7.6 % respectively for other sectors. 
Most importantly, the air fares would rise an all time high. For example, even GST above 15% in domestic airlines will increase air fare for each person up to Rs 400 more, which is quite a deterrent for the sector. 
 Pradeep Kalra, Senior VP – Sales &amp; Marketing, Sarovar <keyword id="6368036" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hotels">Hotels</keyword> believes, “…as is applicable in many countries, the rate of GST for the hotel industry in India should also be kept low. GST rates for hotel industry in countries like Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, and <keyword id="3739" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Thailand">Thailand</keyword> are as low as 7 %, making these countries cost effective and popular tourist destinations. We feel a low tax rate of 5 % on the industry here for at least five years would benefit the sector and increase the tourists’ inflow, which is currently the lowest in the world considering the size of the country.” 
 
Seems like GST cap being planned is not too much of a good news for the travel sector!
