So strong is the urge for foreign education for the child that the parents are willing to suffer financial strains as well, the survey said, pointing out that the investment in education may come at the sacrifice of retirement savings. The expected or actual annual cost of overseas education works out at $62,364, and may use up to 64% of parents' retirement savings. Parents resort to dipping into general savings, taking loans and selling assets to fund the overseas education, the survey said. The quality of overseas education tops the list of primary reason for considering the overseas education, followed closely by the possibility to specialise in an area, the survey said. The survey said that financial concerns are the biggest worry for parents when the kid flies out for education, and followed by others like social or mental concerns and physical or health concerns.

Here's all you need to know about it: The scheme will cover students who secure admission to one of the top 860 higher educational institutions in the country. In effect, this is set to benefit over 22 lakh students annually. You can apply for this loan via a soon-to-be launched consolidated PM-Vidyalaxmi portal. The loan application will be entirely digital and will not require collateral or assets to be pledged in place of a loan or even a guarantor. For loans up to Rs 7.5 lakh, the government will provide a 75% credit guarantee. If your family's annual income is up to Rs 8 lakh, you are eligible for receiving loans up to Rs 10 lakh at an interest rate of up to 3% lower rates. This support will be offered to around 1 lakh students every year, and those who opt for technical or professional courses from government-run institutions will be given preference for the same. The government has already set aside Rs 3,600 crore for the same, to be utilized between 2024 and 2031, benefiting 7 lakh students in this period. All eligible students whose family's annual income falls below the Rs 4.5 lakh threshold will receive a full subsidy on interest payable. As for which higher education institutions (HEIs) will qualify, it will depend on recent NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) rankings. Such as those who missed admission to a university in the July/August session due to a delay in the announcement of board results, health issues, or personal reasons. Biannual university admissions will help students maintain motivation since they do not have to wait one full year to be admitted if they miss admission in the current cycle," UGC Chairman Kumar said on Tuesday. Currently, UGC Regulations allow the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to admit students in one academic session in a year starting in July/August. An 'Academic session' is twelve months, beginning in July/August. Indian HEIs, therefore, follow the academic session that begins in July-August and ends in May-June. UGC had decided in its 571st commission held on 25 July 2023 to permit <keyword id="22014108" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="biannual-admissions" source="keywords">biannual admissions</keyword> under Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online modes in January and July during an academic year. As per the information furnished by the HEIs on the UGC DEB portal, in addition to a total of 19,73,056 students were enrolled in July 2022 and an additional 4,28,854 students joined in January 2023 in ODL and online programs. Considering the tremendous response and interest from the students in ODL and online programs in biannual admissions, in its meeting held on May 15 this year the UGC took a policy decision to allow Higher Education Institutions who offer programs in regular mode to admit students twice in a year, either in January/February or July/August from the coming academic year, the UGC chairman said. Those institutions that have the required infrastructure and teaching faculty can utilize the opportunity to admit students biannually. Offering biannual admissions is not mandatory for the HEIs; it is the flexibility that UGC provides to the HEIs who want to increase their student intake and offer new programmes in emerging areas. To be able to admit students twice a year, HEIs must make suitable amendments to their institutional regulations. The minister highlighted this during his address at the Global Standards Symposium at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, one of the world's largest telecom events. He said, "In India alone, for example, 5G is anticipated to inject an astounding 450 billion dollars into the economy by 2040." The minister emphasized that 5G is not just about faster internet or low latency, but is laying the groundwork for <keyword id="20006420" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="smart-cities" source="keywords">smart cities</keyword>, advanced infrastructure, and autonomous innovations. Scindia further noted that 5G has already been rolled out across all 36 states and Union Territories, covering 98 per cent of districts and 80 per cent of the population in just 22 months. He said this achievement showcases not only India's technological prowess but also the transformative power of standardized innovation. Things are transforming industries, societies and manufacturing processes and economies on a global scale," he said. Scindia also pointed out the need for robust governance in emerging technologies like AI and IoT, emphasizing the importance of ethical considerations and regulatory frameworks to address concerns around privacy, bias, and transparency. He called for a comprehensive policy framework to ensure that future innovations, such as the upcoming 6G technology, benefit everyone equitably and do not deepen existing digital divides. "We are today poised at the edge of a new technological era, the dawn of the 6th generation of mobile network 6G and this is a gateway to the future where communication will become boundless where innovation will know no limits and by humanity, interconnectedness becomes the corner stone of our shared global destiny" he said. The <keyword id="20050220" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bureau-of-Indian-Standards" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Bureau of Indian Standards" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Bureau of Indian Standards">Bureau of Indian Standards</keyword> (BIS) is placing special emphasis on consumer awareness around gold and silver purchases, specifically advising shoppers to choose items backed by the <keyword id="21548543" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BIS-hallmark" source="keywords">BIS hallmark</keyword> for guaranteed purity and quality. The hallmark, as the BIS notes, is a crucial indicator of authenticity, especially given the high value traditionally associated with gold purchases during this festival. The BIS hallmark consists of three critical components: the BIS Standard Mark, confirming adherence to quality standards; the Purity Mark, which denotes gold’s fineness and carat purity; and a unique Hallmark Unique ID (HUID), a six-digit alphanumeric code specific to each jewellery piece. Consumers can verify the HUID on their jewellery using the ‘<keyword id="23727070" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="verify-HUID" source="keywords">Verify HUID</keyword>’ feature on the BIS Care App, which is free to download. This added verification step ensures customers can make informed purchases that meet the advertised purity levels, making the hallmark a trusted seal during peak shopping seasons. As part of its hallmarking efforts, BIS has made hallmarking mandatory in several regions of India since June 2021. Originally launched in 256 districts, hallmarking has been expanded to cover 343 districts following three phases of implementation, according to BIS. The scheme has had a substantial impact, with the number of BIS-registered jewellers increasing from 43,153 in 2021 to over 193,567 today. Furthermore, the number of Assaying and Hallmarking Centres (AHCs) now stands at 1,611, reflecting an extensive infrastructure to meet rising demand. Hallmarking fees have been set at Rs 45 per piece (exclusive of taxes), with testing available at AHCs for Rs 200 per item, a move BIS believes supports consumer confidence by offering a third-party verification system.
