Three top <keyword id="3452086" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-businesswomen" source="Orion">Indian businesswomen</keyword> are featured in the Forbes Asia November issue highlighting 20 Asian women who came up with varying strategies that helped their businesses soar despite the uncertainty of the new normal and three years of Covid-19. <keyword id="4237371" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Soma-Mondal" source="Orion">Soma Mondal</keyword>, the chairperson of Steel Authority of India Ltd, <keyword id="544908" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Namita-Thapar" source="Orion">Namita Thapar</keyword>, executive director at India business of Emcure Pharma, and <keyword id="4548812" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ghazal-Alagh" source="Orion">Ghazal Alagh</keyword>, co-founder and chief innovation officer of Honasa Consumer, are on the list. Some of these women operated in hard-hit sectors such as shipping, property, and construction, while others continue to innovate in areas such as technology, pharmaceuticals, and commodities, Forbes said in a press release on Tuesday. The Asia-Pacific region this year has mostly moved on to a post-pandemic era where governments, people, and businesses are learning to live with Covid-19, it said. The other women on the list are from Australia, China, South Korea, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. She also has a Masters degree in business administration from Stanford University. This is where she met Sunak and got married to him in Bangalore in 2009. As the law states, Murty as a non-domiciled citizen in the UK is not required to pay taxes on her overseas earnings, which came to £11.6 million she got as a <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-61055789">dividend</a> from her father’s company last year. Post an inquiry, Akshata agreed to pay her due taxes. She additionally pays £30,000 per year to maintain her non-domiciled <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-61045825">status</a>, BBC reported. “It has become clear that many do not feel it is compatible with my husband's role as chancellor. I understand and appreciate the British sense of fairness and I do not wish my tax status to be a distraction for my husband or to affect my family,” she <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-61045825">said.</a> Murty had previously started her own design label called Akshata Designs, which closed down in 2012. The concept has now evolved from being just a single-room category at ITC Maurya in New Delhi to a dedicated wing and floor in ITC Hotels across the country. Earlier this year, ITC Maratha in Mumbai overhauled the women-only floor to incorporate new design elements. 
 "The endeavour is aimed at going beyond the expected and ordinary to cater to the 'unspoken needs' of this segment," said Dipak Haksar, chief operating officer, ITC Hotels. The hotel chain's upcoming property – <keyword id="2517854" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="ITC-Grand-Bharat">ITC Grand Bharat</keyword> at Manesar near Gurgaon – has special packages on golf, yoga, spa and beauty treatments. 
 
Even other hotel chains are now adopting the trend of women-only floors and bringing in newer and customised services for this segment. "Travel packages for women have been there for years and it's the same everywhere. But those can't work anymore as the female travellers have evolved and their needs are changing," says Louis Sailer, general manager of The Leela Palace, New Delhi. 
 
Hotels are focusing more on this segment as women travellers tend to spend more and indulge in quality lifestyle amenities like spas, beauty treatments, health and wellness.

That’s where I read about these phenomenal women and something just changed within me. 
 Along with the <keyword id="175721" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="business-plans">business plans</keyword> (most of which were amazing), those women entrepreneurs had to submit their background stories as well. And those real-life stories of women who were successfully running grocery chains or operating software companies or were involved in similar businesses while being a single mom or managing 4 kids were just so inspirational. I think the entrepreneurial bug bit me sometime around then. So I packed up my bags, came to India and put my thoughts into action to start <keyword id="736994" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="mydala">MyDala</keyword>. Even now, I strongly believe that the world, and especially India, needs more <keyword id="2105199" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Women-role-models">women role models</keyword> whether they are women entrepreneurs or <keyword id="6464433" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Women-professionals">women professionals</keyword> across different fields. 
 
Think out of the box to survive Just like all other things, starting your own company will see loads of ups and downs, positives and negatives. But the bigger the business grows, the challenges and the positives will morph into different things. I think it also depends on how you look at a situation. For instance, we didn’t get any funding for MyDala upfront because of a couple of missteps and we could have let that get us down. But in hindsight, it got us to think creatively to survive and make MyDala grow into what it is today – via innovative marketing and alliances. We’re now one of the few companies that work with all major <keyword id="6383126" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Telcos">telcos</keyword> and <keyword id="163194" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="OEMs">OEMs</keyword> – giving us the means to reach out to hundreds of millions of prospective users. I don’t think this would ever have happened if we hadn’t learnt to figure out alliances due to the lack of initial funding. We were also fortunate to have some good people guiding us throughout. 
 
Have trust in yourself but seek help when you need it This one is for the wannapreneurs, especially if you are women. People will only believe in you when you believe in yourself – so don’t doubt yourself. If you have set your <keyword id="24479" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="heart">heart</keyword> on doing something, go do it. The worst that can happen is failure, but it’s not all that bad. 
 
Finally, don’t overthink. It’s good to think things through but women always think of every possible reason that can deter them from starting a business. When you start a business, no one can predict how it will go. Of course, initially, it won’t be a bed of roses. But trust me, it all works out fine. Just remember how you juggle your household, kids and family… your work, too, will fall into place in the same way. Have faith in yourself and ask for help when required. We women tend to hesitate more than men about asking for just about anything. The day we get past that, India will see a surge of women entrepreneurs and role models that we desperately need for our younger generations to look up to.

<ul><li><keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s first social commerce platform has turned 1.23 lakh small business owners into lakhpatis. </li><li><keyword id="3480589" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="meesho" source="Orion">Meesho</keyword> has overtaken <keyword id="18635" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="amazon" source="Orion">Amazon</keyword> and <keyword id="6354742" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="flipkart" source="Orion">Flipkart</keyword> in terms of user penetration in tier 2 to tier 4 cities of India. </li><li>Compressed app size, explainer videos on doing business, monthly visits to households of small businessmen is how Meesho is capturing India’s rural heartland. </li></ul>At 13 years of age, <keyword id="15066970" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="divyanjali-mishra" source="Orion">Divyanjali Mishra</keyword> is a year short of the legal age to work in India but the entrepreneurial bug bit this teen after she saw her brother-in-law become successful online. As many as 1.23 lakh small business owners have turned into lakhpatis on Meesho. With over 127 million users in August 2022 alone, what is driving this unicorn's customer and seller growth? One trait that’s common between Meesho and its sellers is speed. "Our vision is to democratise internet e-commerce. When the cost of trying out a business online is massively reduced and onboarding happens within 12 hours, more sellers come onboard," said <keyword id="1893518" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="megha-agarwal" source="Orion">Megha Agarwal</keyword>, CXO, user growth at Meesho, in an interview with Business Insider India. Meesho's app is also the lightest e-commerce app in India at 13.6 MB. Flipkart’s app takes up 18 MB of space while Amazon requires 59 MB. "Our customers are mostly from tier 2, tier 3 and tier 4 cities of India. We are aware that customers don't always have smartphones with high data storage. Thus we made our app very light. To make the process of onboarding easier, we are now providing the app in nine vernacular languages," said Agarwal. Meesho, which is backed by Facebook and SoftBank, currently has 360 million downloads – 175 million of these in the last year alone. How does Meesho churn out entrepreneurs from rural India? Even the stories we pick to celebrate are meant to be encouraging for small business owners, making us friendly and approachable, " said Agarwal. Over 35% of the seller base from tier 4 regions The social e-commerce app is trying to reach the rural heartland of India. Over 35% of the Meesho seller base hailed from tier 4 regions. In June 2022 alone, there were 23,000 seller registrations – the highest ever from tier 4 cities. The notable two are sixty-five year old Savitri Jindal (picture above), of Jindal Steel &amp; Power Limited was ranked at 23, with an estimated net worth of $3.8 billion and seventy-nine year old Indu Jain, current chairperson of India’s largest media group, Bennet Coleman &amp; Co Ltd at the 57th spot, with a net worth of $ 1.9 billion 
 Apart from these, the top 10 featured the usual suspects, i.e. <keyword id="29201" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Lakshmi-Mittal">Lakshmi Mittal</keyword>, Hinduja brothers, Godrej Family, Shiv Nadar etc. And, according to Forbes, the combined wealth of India's 100 richest persons remained largely unchanged at $345 billion, compared with $346 billion in 2014.
