The big victory against Afghanistan has revived India's hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. But it will be a very tight race with India's chances not only depending on the results of their matches but also those of other teams in Group 2. The big win over Afghanistan helped, but their likeliest road to the semi-finals is registering further huge wins over each of their next two opponents while hoping Afghanistan beat New Zealand by the barest of margins so that they can catch up on NRR. Any loss would end India's qualification hopes, and if New Zealand win their remaining games then there is nothing India can do. On paper, the Black Caps have got their two toughest games out of the way, suffering a loss to Pakistan before winning comfortably against India. If they win their remaining two matches they will be guaranteed a spot in the next stage. A victory over Afghanistan paired with a loss to Namibia would see them relying on both India and Namibia's results and NRR. A win over Namibia and then a defeat to Afghanistan would also see it come down to NRR, with three teams potentially level on six points after five matches. Afghanistan have the edge currently over New Zealand on NRR, and India have the advantage of playing the last game in the group so would know exactly the permutations involved. However, Afghanistan's heavy defeat to India on Wednesday night has made their position in Group 2 far less stable. They now must beat New Zealand in their final group game to qualify, and even then a victory in that match may not be sufficient, although they do still have the best NRR in the group. Lose to New Zealand and they are certainly out. If the next set of Group 2 results go to form and New Zealand beat Namibia and India beat Scotland, then it will all come down to NRR if Afghanistan beat the Black Caps on Sunday. The NRR permutations on the final day are not yet clear, but it could be the case that India play Namibia in the final game of the Super 12 stage knowing exactly what they need to do in order to finish in second place in the group. It would also come down to NRR if Afghanistan beat New Zealand and Namibia manage victories over the Black Caps and India. In short: Victory over New Zealand could be enough for Afghanistan, but NRR is still vital Mathematically, Namibia are still in contention for the lone qualification spot from this group. Having registered a memorable win over Scotland in their first-ever Super 12 match, Namibia are still in the chase despite chastening defeats to Afghanistan and Pakistan. If they win both their remaining matches, they will have a chance to re'ch the semi-finals. Of course, that won't be easy given their next two opponents are New Zealand and India. They are relying on other results and, given their NRR, even two victories over their much-fancied opponents is unlikely to be enough. But they still have a chance. For India to qualify for semi-finals of the World Cup, Afghanistan has to beat New Zealand ⁠— but that alone is not enough

Dubai, The <keyword id="46227" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="International-cricket-council">International Cricket Council</keyword> (ICC) on Friday announced that the three upcoming <keyword id="45633" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="series">series</keyword> in the <keyword id="320316" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Cup-league">World Cup League</keyword> 2, due to take place between March and May, have been postponed because of <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">Covid-19</keyword>. The <keyword id="22177" type="SPORT" weightage="20" keywordseo="world-cup">World Cup</keyword> League 2, which forms part of the qualifying pathway to the 2023 World Cup, was scheduled to see 18 ODIs played across the sixth, seventh and eighth series of the <keyword id="5189" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="competition">competition</keyword>. The postponed series included table-toppers Oman who were due to host second-placed USA and seventh-placed Nepal for six ODIs between March 19 and 28. The seventh series of the competition scheduled PNG who sit at the foot of the standings to host Oman and third-placed Scotland between April 14 and 24. The final series which will need to be rescheduled was to see PNG play host again, with USA and fourth-placed Namibia travelling to the Pacific to play six ODIs between May 13 and 23. "The postponements are due to the current travel restrictions between countries, the quarantine time required before matches and the recent surge in Covid-19 cases," an ICC media release stated. The ICC said that it will now work with hosts and participating members to find an appropriate window where the qualification pathway fixtures can be safely and practically rescheduled before the cut-off date of February 28, 2023. The window for rescheduling fixtures has been extended to the latest possible date to provide the best opportunity for qualification to be determined on the field of play. The next series scheduled in the competition is in July this year where Scotland are due to host Nepal and Namibia for six ODIs. The World Cup League 2 is a three-and-half-year competition involving seven teams that are two steps away from the 2023 World Cup. At the culmination of the 21 tri-series, the top three teams in the standings will confirm their place in the World Cup Qualifier 2023. The bottom four teams will drop into the World Cup Qualifier Play-Off 2023 - which is a repechage event to the Global Qualifier - and will be joined by the winner of Challenge League A and B. The top two teams from the Play-Off will keep their hopes alive of participating in 2023 World Cup, by qualifying for the World Cup Qualifier 2023. Raising concerns over growing <keyword id="20260846" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="obesity" source="keywords">obesity</keyword> and increase of consumption of highly <keyword id="20490015" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="processed-foods" source="keywords">processed foods</keyword> laden with sugars and fat, the Economic Survey said 54 per cent of the total disease burden in India is due to <keyword id="21833035" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="unhealthy-diets" source="keywords">unhealthy diets</keyword>. Obesity presents a "concerning situation" and <keyword id="19948547" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="preventive-measures" source="keywords">preventive measures</keyword> must be taken to enable citizens to have a <keyword id="20000886" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="healthier-lifestyle" source="keywords">healthier lifestyle</keyword>, it said. "Obesity is emerging as a serious concern among India's adult population," said the Survey, which was tabled on Monday by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament. If India needs to "reap the gains of its demographic dividend, it is critical that its population's health parameters transition towards a balanced and diverse diet", it said. Citing a report from the Indian Council for Medical Research, the Economic Survey observed that the rise in consumption of highly processed foods laden with sugars and fat, coupled with reduced physical activity and limited access to diverse foods, exacerbate micronutrient deficiencies and overweight/obesity problems. Estimates show that the adult obesity rate in India has more than tripled, and the rise in children is the steepest in the world for India, behind Vietnam and Namibia, the survey stated, referring to a World Obesity Federation report. The survey further said as per National Family Health Survey (NFHS), the incidence of obesity is significantly higher in urban India than in rural India. In urban India, it is 29.8 per cent in men versus 19.3 per cent of rural India. The percentage of men facing obesity in the 18-69 age bracket has increased to 22.9 per cent in NFHS-5 from 18.9 per cent in NFHS-4. For women, it has increased from 20.6 per cent (NFHS-4) to 24 per cent (NFHS-5). "Combined with an ageing population in some states, obesity presents a concerning situation. Preventive measures must be taken to enable citizens to have a healthier lifestyle," the survey said. In some states, such as in the NCT (Delhi), the proportion of women with obesity is 41.3 per cent, as against 38 per cent for men. In Tamil Nadu, for men, obesity is 37 per cent and it is 40.4 per cent for women. In Andhra, it is 36.3 per cent for women while for men it is 31.1 per cent.
